Ion3 Statusbar

Hi, I've been poking around here and the wiki for a month or two now and this is the first problem I've had where I can't already find the answer somewhere. Keep in mind this just means I most likely just overlooked it -_-
I recently installed Ion3 on my Arch box from Extra. So far I'm having a blast using it and configuring it how I want. However, I having some issues with altering the status bar. On the Ion3 site is says simply:
These scripts are for monitoring various internal and system resources and such. You should not attempt to load any of them manually. Instead, put them somewhere on Ion's earch path (e.g. ~/.ion3/) and simply insert one of the meters provide by the script in your statusbar template (in cfg_statusbar.lua) and it will automatically load the appropriate script, either within Ion itself, or in ion-statusd for the system resource monitors. - http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/repos/ion-scr … #statusbar
However, this does not work. statusbar_workspace.lua and statusd_mpd.lua are the scripts I am currently trying out. (http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/repos/ion-scripts-3/statusbar/statusbar_workspace.lua and http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/repos/ion-scr … sd_mpd.lua )
My template string currently looks like:
[ %date || %workspace_pager || %workspace_frame] %artist - %title (%pos / %len)] %filler%systray
Which looks like it would translate to something like:
[ Sun 2007-01-07 22:55 || 1i  2i  [31]  4f || Workspace 3 ] Megadeth - Have Cool, Will Travel (2:18 / 3:40)
Or something but instead I get:
[ Sun 2007-01-07 22:55 || ? || ? ] ?- ? ( ? / ? )
Both files are in my ~/.ion3/ directory and the mpd host/port in the file are accurate. I'm unsure what to do or even where to look as Ion has no community tools like forums or a wiki or anything except the documentation and I've been through that but couldn't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be appreciated on how to properly use the scripts found on that page. Thanks Archers =x

veek wrote:I just tried out the mpd script and I got that one working, but I still can't get the workspace one.
I havent been able to get that one working yet. The opnly guess I can offer as to what may be preventing it from working (And this is solely based off of how the mpd script seems to work) is that the statusbar_workspace.lua file should be renamed.
It seems like the %workspace_ prefix to the variables indicates the file that the fcg_statusbar script should look to grab the variables. So, maybe, the statusbar_ part of the workspace script isn't what it should be? It has no template string within it though so I doubt it will be as simple as renaming to statusd_workspace.lus (If I'm even close to being right).
Thoughts?
and thanks to skymt for clearing the naming of netcat up!

  • How do I properly emulate the old statusbar and some other features?

    I can see the "statusbar issue" have been discussed a lot, but couldn't find a satisfying answer.
    I haven't used Internet Explorer for several years in benefit to Firefox. I hope I can keep it that way while I am also able to stay up to date at the same time.
    After recently updated my FF 3.6(I think) to 4.0.1, and plenty of time trying to customize the new looks and location of bars and buttons etc to my likings, I need help with a few things:
    1. How do I disable the "link hover preview bar" and make it appear on the Add-on Bar(the old statusbar replacement)?
    2. How do I remove the X(close button) on the Add-on bar? I don't know if its only me, but something at the back of my head mistakes it for a pop-up or something else that needs to be closed. Very annoying to have to re-enable it every time.
    3. How do I put a "border" around the new Add-on bar so it doesn't look like an extension of the webpage im currently at? The lack of a border might be the reason why I subconsciously think it's a popup. But even so, I still see no reason for the X.
    4. The new colorless buttons/icons makes it easy to miss click (they all look too similar now), can I get them old ones back?
    5. How do I make the Reload button and Stop button stay separate buttons instead of one combined button?
    6. Lastly, I am used to have a button at the right side of the last tab to open a new tab. Now I need to add another button at the top instead. Or can I get the old "open new tab" feature back somehow?
    Thank you for your time.

    <u>'''Question 1'''</u><br />
    Install the '''''Status-4-Evar''''' extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/<br />
    After install,
    #Be sure the Add-on Bar is displayed;
    #*click Firefox button, click Add-on Bar to place a check mark
    #*if using the Menu Bar, click View > Toolbars, click to check "Add-on Bar"
    #In the Customize Toolbar window
    #*Open Customize Toolbar window
    #**Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout
    #**if using the Menu Bar, View > Toolbars > Customize
    #*drag any or all of the 3 items to the position you want them on the Add-on Bar:
    #**'''Status text''' (this will display the website address while loading and "Done" when the page has completed loading in the Add-on Bar instead of as a "tooltip" type display in the lower left corner)
    #**'''Download status''' (will display No Downloads or number of downloads in progress)
    #**'''Progress meter''' (progress of page loading)
    <u>'''Questions 2 & 3'''</u>
    #Set the options for Status-4-Evar
    #*click Firefox button, click Add-ons, click Extensions, scroll down and click Options next to Status-4-Evar
    #*if using the Menu bar, click Tools, click Add-ons, click Extensions, scroll down and click Options next to Status-4-Evar
    #*In the Options window for Status-4-Evar, click on "Add-on Bar" on the top
    #**un-check "Show the close button" to remove the Add-on Bar close (X) button
    #**check "Use alternate toolbar borders" to place a 1 pixel border across the top of the Add-on Bar
    #***You can also do this with a userChrome.css addition and you can color the Add-on Bar, but it is a bit involved. If you want some basic instructions, post back and I will try to provide the information.
    <u>'''Question 4'''</u>
    You can add this Extension to get some color toolbar buttons similar to Firefox 3.6:
    *'''''Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4''''': https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-3-theme-for-firefox/
    <u>'''Question 5'''</u>
    #Firefox 4.0 has a '''''combined''''' Go/Reload/Stop button that is positioned at the far right of the location bar.
    #*During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button. If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
    #*You can middle-click that button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
    #*In Firefox 4.0 you can move the Stop/Reload button out of the location bar and put them wherever you want on the toolbar. You can also make them appear as separate buttons on the toolbar.
    #**click Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout
    #**if using the Menu Bar: click View > Toolbars > Customize
    #** Swap the two buttons by dragging them or move them to their previous position at the left of the location bar.
    #** If the order is "Reload - Stop" you will get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
    #** Swap the order (by dragging) to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise (like inserting another button or a "Space" or "Separator" between them) to get two distinct buttons.
    <u>'''Question 6'''</u>
    There should be a "+" to the right of the last tab by default. If it is not there, open the "Customize Toolbar" window:
    *click Firefox button, click Options, click Toolbar Layout
    *if using the Menu Bar, click View, click Toolbars, click Cutomize
    look for a "New Tab" icon and drag it to the end of the Tab Bar while the Customize Toolbar window is open. You may need to "Restore the default toolbar set". See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing<br />
    What Add-on did you install for the Open New Tab button on the toolbar? Did it disable the "+" on the Tab bar?

  • I0S7 StatusBar Overlays stage, Adobe Air 3.9 Beta Bug? Is there a Workarround

    Hi
    I am using Adobe air 3.9 Beta. It seems that iOS7 give you the the possibility to style the Statusbar. But if you open an adobe air application the statusbar overlays the stage by default. It creates problems with my tabs.
    I tested the app with an iPod and IPhone, both with iOs7 Both have the Issues. If I compile the app with Adobe air 3.8 the Statusbar will be displayed correct.
    But I can't use air 3.8 because I need the new Icons 120x120 76x76 etc.
    Other people have the same issue. See screenshots https://github.com/mutualmobile/MMDrawerController/issues/51
    I think the solution is in the info.plist. There is an option for the info.plist UIViewControllerBasedStatusBarAppearance. We need this paramter to activate or deactivate the Statusbar overlay.
    any Ideas?

    My variation of the problem shows different results in 790 and 1080. Here's what I'm doing, and what's different:
    When I ask the user to pick a photo from their album, the status bar appears (my app is full screen, and no status bar is showing at first).
    With build 790, the status bar is opaque, black background, and it sits on top of the title banner of the picker (the word "PHOTOS" gets obscured). When I return to the app, the status bar remains there, and is sitting on top of my stage content. The picker is iOS 6 styled.
    With build 1080 the behavior is identical to the above, except that the status bar is transparent, and the picker is iOS 7 styled. The status bar does not obscure the "Photos" word, that is further down the screen. On returning to the app I see the black text of the status bar sat transparent on top of the top part of my stage content.
    If I build for 3.8.0.910, the behavior is the same as it is for 3.9.0.790.
    This is with the GM version of iOS 7.
    Overall, I think I'll build for 1080, and hope the client doens't notice the remnants of the status bar. Hopefully you will have added the new icons to the next iOS 7 AIR build, and found a way to hide the status bar after showing the picker.

    any Ideas for an workarround?
    p.s.
    sorry for double post in Air Development section

    Hi,
    up until now, I think this might be a general issue, even Xcode (5) apps have this.
    However, if you just need the new icons you shouldn't care too much about this, you nearly can't see the differences when you adjust your icons a little bit (no border on the edges etc.), so I would rather use 3.8 (fast, since you might not be able to upload an app without the icons after tomorrow) and update it once those issues have been fixed (I think that this might need a while, since there are some more problems with 3.9).

  • Where is the padlock and on/offline icon, or the equlavant Identity button on the bottom of the window where statusbar used to reside

    This is not a duplicate of http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/763963
    The long gone historical artifact of what used to be called the statusbar, that used to be located at bottom of the window, has been replaced by various other functionality, to provide speed impprovement and extra pixels for displaying other stuff.
    Status-4-Evar addon appears to display a simular looking interface, however it lacks the actuall two key features.
    1)The Proxy/Online/Offline icon, used to switch on-line/off-line state of the browser by a single click. Where can I re-gain this functionality? Perferbly with a extreamly light and simple addon, one hopes.
    2)The padlock, or as it was indicated that this does not provide enough security, the new and improved identity button, in a simple image (change in shape, like open and closed padlock), not some gray/blue/green color change that is hard to distuinguish, or at least with a bit more concideration for more easy to view color scheme, at least.
    It would be very nice if the option to drag and place identity button to bottom corner of window, if technologically feasable.
    Having only the color change to indicate something is very hard for the eyes, sir. I wish to vote for having a option to indicate changes in diffrent images, using something simple please.

    Thanks! That solved it.

  • [Solved] I3 WM: date and time in statusbar?

    Hey, just recently switched from xmonad to I3 and so far I really like it (never got around to learn haskell). The only thing still missing is to display at least the current time and maybe also the date in the statusbar. I at least couldn't find anything in the docs or manpage, so maybe there is no way to do that?

    java.lang.Object
    java.awt.Component
    java.awt.Container
    javax.swing.JComponent
    javax.swing.JPanel
    com.ultraswing.StatusBar

    what ever website you saw this code on must have the jar file available if they expect you to be able to run the application.
    Down this .jar file to your local hard drive and add the path+jarFileName to your classpath. This allows you to see all classes which are contained within the jar file.
    When you do find the jar file, you can also open it with winzip to see what classes are in it. A jar is just a convient way to store and deploy .class files

  • DWM statusbar produces strange gap to the right

    I'm using dwm-5.9 patched with statuscolors and when I use color codes with something like
    xsetroot -name "\x05$somestring\x01"
    the statusbar gets a bigger gap to the right even though there's nothing set to display there. A picture would explain this better: (the statusbar script used is displayed in the terminal)
    The gap gets bigger when adding more colored elements to the output string. This does not happen when not using statuscolor codes. What's wrong here?
    Last edited by hesse (2012-03-15 14:54:58)

    Ok. I forgot to say that I patched dwm-5.9 with the statuscolor-5.9 patch. You say there are separate spacing issues on different versions - would it be worth trying to patch with an older version of statuscolor? My guess is it will require an older version of dwm..

  • Dzen, conky and wmii statusbar...

    Hi,
    [What I need]
    I'm trying to get a system info statusbar working on my wmii setup.
    [What I've done so far]
    1. Using wmii's statusbar directly is too difficult for me as I don't have enough knowledge about my system to get all the information I need and I a feel *a bit* unconfortable to work with sed and awk.
    2. Then I tried to pipe conky into wmii statusbar but it is not straightforward at all, as the only working way I found, posted on the wmii thread, makes conky write a file and then wmii status bar to continuosly 'cat' that file. This way my hard disk is always active as wmii is always reading conky's output file.
    3. I finally decided not to use wmii's stausbar and "replace" it with conky piped into dzen2. The major problem is that dzen initially displays conky's output correctly but the whole bar disappears as soon as I switch to another workspace.
    Can someone point me to a solution?
    Here's my dzen_conky.sh script:
    #!/bin/bash
    FG='#999999'
    BG='#181818'
    FONT='-xos4-terminus-medium-r-*--12-*-*-*-*-*-iso10646-1'
    conky | dzen2 -ta r -h 12 -y 787 -fg $FG -bg $BG -fn $FONT
    Many thanks!

  • Vertical dzen statusbar? [SOLVED]

    this started out as a let's-see-if-it's-possible sort of thing, and now it's driving me mad that I can't figure this out. I'm attempting to make dzen + conky act as a statusbar, positioned vertically on the left side of my screen. my current .xinitrc line is:
    conky -c /home/bryant/conkyrc | dzen2 -x '0' -w '60' -h '900' -ta 'l' -bg '#000000' -fg '#00ee00' -y '50' -fn '-*-terminus-*-r-normal-*-*-130-*-*-*-*-*-*'&
    my conky config is:
    background no
    out_to_console yes
    background no
    out_to_console yes
    update_interval 1.0
    short_units yes
    format_human_readable yes
    out_to_x no
    TEXT
    {${time %a %b %d %Y}
    ${time %H:%M:%S}}
    [RAM: $memperc%]
    [CPU: $cpu%]
    [disk I/O: ${diskio_write /dev/sda}/${diskio_read /dev/sda}]
    [SSD: ${fs_used /}/${fs_size /} (${fs_used_perc /}%)]
    ${if_existing /proc/net/route wlp1s0}[network: ${wireless_essid wlp1s0} (${wireless_link_qual_perc wlp1s0}%)] $else [network: -- ]$endif

    (${battery_time BAT1})] $else ${if_existing /sys/class/power_supply/ADP1} [AC power] $else [battery: -- ]$endif
    I realize that most of this won't fit in a 40-pixel bar, but I'm still working out the formatting. dzen positions itself properly, but it only displays part of the fist line no matter how wide I make it.

  • "Ant downloader" does not show up when set to "statusbar" but shows up when in toolbar.

    In the previous versions, this would work on the bottom of the screen as a status bar, with version 4 beta though, there seems to be no statusbar at all.

    Have the same problem, how can we keep working with this add-on without adding the extra toolbar line?
    Someone with a solution?

  • Iphone 4s no statusbar, screen shifted and shakes

    Hi, I have a strange problem on my new iPhone 4s.
    I don't see the statusbar indicating my network and battery status. Furthermore, the screen is trembling a bit.
    I have the feeling that the screen is shifted to the top, when a notification appears I can see only the half of it..

    Sounds like it's time for a trip to the Genius Bar for phone replacement.
