Ipad 2 won't remember my WiFi home network password

Just a couple days ago, my internet was slow for my laptop and ipad. For my ipad, I went to my WiFi Settings and forget my network and reconnect again to see if the internet would run smoothly but it didn't. After a couple of hours, the internet ran smoothly. But now when I connect to my home network it asks me to type in my password. I already turned on "Ask to Join Networks." I went into settings and reset my network settings and it still doesn't work. I also reset my ipad from pressing the on/off button and the home button at the same time. I was thinking of backup and restore but all my media, music will be lost but would it be saved anywhere else on my computer or any part of iTunes? Any other solution would be nice.

I tried this after finding on another forum:  go to settings/wifi and "choose other" instead of selecting your network from the list that shows up. Then just enter the name, security type and password.  I used this on 2 iPads and 2 iPhones and it automatically logged in for all of them, even after restarting the devices.

  • Ipad mini won't stay connected to home network...and I've tried ALL the fixes

I know other people have been posting this problem, but none of the fixes posted in the forums work for me. No matter whether I restart or reset my mini, it only holds the wifi connection for a few minutes. Then, though it says it's still connected, it's not. I've also tried resetting and updating my router, tried re-naming my networks, and tried every different kind of connection (wep, wpa, wpa2) my router can handle. Nothing works for more than a few minutes! Someone please help!
Maybe this additional clue will help: I can connect via cellular, but ONLY if my wireless adapter is turned OFF. I can also connect to other wireless networks - just not my home network.
    using OS 6.0.3

You gave a clue -  "it says it's still connected, it's not"
If it indicates that it's connected to the router, then it probably is.  When you add "it's not", is it because you can't reach the outside world?  If so, then the problem is the router is not communicating with the outside or the problem is the channel from router to it's mother at command central.  The final nail on the coffin is that you can connect to other wireless networks, not at home.  Two strikes on the router.  How old is the router, what brand?

  • Wifi home network no longer showing on ipad in one room of house

All of a sudden, ipad first gen won't recognize wifi home network or any network in one room of house while other devices work fine in same room.  I've tried to update firmware for router, reset the ipad to factory defaults and "forget network" but none have solved problem. How can I fix this? Thanks!

You don't download anything at all. The feature is built into the iPhone 4 already. Your carrier has to support the feature and there might be an extra charge to use it.

  • ITouch mail won't work on my home network, works everywhere else.

My 2nd generation itouch's email won't work on my home network. I get a message that says something like "Unable to connect to Pop3 server." It works on other people's home networks, public networks, etc. Just not mine. I'm guessing my router / modem has a setting somewhere that is the problem. Verizon won't help me because it's a device problem, not an internet problem (their opinion). I have read all of the posts on the forum about this mail issue, but since it works everywhere else, I don't think it's an itouch issue. It's a Verizon Westell modem. thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem and just solved it. My home wireless is with ATT and they told me they have been receiving a lot of problems with users suddenly unable to gain access to wi-fi in their home. When we checked my wireless home connection the I.P address on my ITouch was incorrect. The prior IP address was not correct and 'somehow' got corrupted...no one knows how that happened. My cust service rep was excellent and walked me through renaming my wireless hardware as well as changing my channel - and it worked. we changed the name of my wireless modem/router, then changed the channel...to a different number than it was. You are correct in that the problem is with home service. my rep actually took me to an ip address ---numbers not a www address where we made the changes- I hope this helped. If I can be of assistance please let me know.

I have a first generation touch with OS3.1.3.  When I turned it on yesterday and tried to connect to Wi-Fi;  It says choose a Network, but none display.  If I hit "other", nothing shows; it won't even recognize my home network.  Help!   This has never happened before!

Nothing is grayed out.  It just doesn't want to find any networks.  Usually, a whole list appears; mine is at the top.  It tries to connect less than 2 seconds and just stops...nothing appears.

  • TS1398 New IPad mini won't connect to wifi but other technical divices can, HELP!!

I just bought a new ipad mini and tried to connect it to BT business hub but I waited more than I need to so I turned it off and restared again and i tried 3 times and tried all the ways to connect to wifi on the internet but it still wouldn't connect I need help T-T

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • My imac (10.6.8) won't remember my wifi credentials...sooo frustrating please help! :)

It's an issue more often than not that I can't connect for some reason. I typically restart the computer and modem several times until it magically works but every once in a while its just no use so I shut er down and walk away for a few days. It's weird because my iPhone and tab never have this problem. I'd love to find & document a real fix once & for all before I give up on the Mac altogether. Help.

System Preferences>Network>Advanced>forget all your known networks.
Keychain Access>Passwords>delete all your networks passwords
    Restart computer
    Reconnect to your home network
See if this solves your issue :-)

  • HT1338 Wifi won't connect to my home network. "Connection Timed out"

I went to go onto my mac mini today and it wont connect to my home network. It never had a problem connected. I thought it was my network but all my other computers and devices are connected fine. I try to connect to an alternative router I have and it still says that it timed out. Please help!?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My ipad just won't let me enter my apple password on FaceTime or iMessage, it works fine on my iPhone, I have tried numerous things but nothing works, can anybody help please, will a bug fix sort this out when they finally make one

My ipad just won't let me sign in with my apple password on FaceTime or iMessage since updating to ios7 it says check my network connection, even though my iPhone works fine with the same password, can anybody help please, I have tried numerous things but nothing  works.  Will I have to wait for a bug fix to sort this? I hear they are working on one a the minute, I hate ios7

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • TS1398 ipad setup - can't join my wifi, entered wrong password and now wants DHCP and other info

just got an iPad and set it up, synched with my computer. Then I turned on WiFi (to connect to my home FiOS router) and when it asked for password I entered the wrong one. So, I tried again and now, instead of prompting me for password, it's asking for DHCP and lots of other detailed info that I don't know.I tried turning wifi off and then back on ... same result when I tried to join (the DHCP et. al. prompts). I tried turning the iPad off and back on ... same result.
What to do??? I'm so anxious to try out my new iPad
(P.S. I have an iPhone and have no problem accessing WiFi. This issue with the iPad was obviously triggered by my entering the wrong password)

Go to Settings>WiFi>Your Network Name - tap on the blue arrow to the right of the name and then tap - Forget this Network in the next window at the top.
Restart your iPad for good measure and then go back to Settings>WiFi>Your home network name and start over again.

  • IPhone won't automatically join my home network

My original iPhone (not 3g) won't seem to automatically join my home network. I can only join if I go into network settings and tell it to. It does, however, join other trusted networks that it sees but for some reason, not at home. What's really weird is that my wife has the exact same phone and her's automatically joins without any problem. I've even compared the network settings for both phones and they are exactly the same. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

As a first step, delete this wireless network from your iPhone.
    Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Select to view your wireless network settings for this network and at the top, select Forget This Network.
Rejoin the network and test if this resolves the problem.
