my ipad has restored from backup on my laptop and has deleted all my work, is there any way I can get it back?

I Am feeling about as big as an ant right now. I rarely mute my iPad using that button, or via the switch on the side which is set to lock rotation. I have no idea or recollection of ever tapping that mute button but sure enough, when your suggestion was read, I rolled My eyes at myself, swiped up from the bottom of my screen and sure enough, my mute button was highlighted to indicate it was activated. Talk about not seeing the trees from the forest. My thanks to you. Now, please forgive me as I crawl back down into my hole of shame and embarrassment.

iBooks (and other iTunes downloads e.g. music, films, apps etc) aren't included in the backup. As well as backing up did you do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them, and your other iTunes downloads, over to your computer's iTunes ? If they are still in the store then you should be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, or via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.

IPad restored from backup but iTunes says restore failed

SO, it seems like iOS 5 has been a major pain for a lot of people...
I haven't seen anything about the specific issue I'm encountering though. I spent almost all day yesterday trying to get my iPad backup restored after the update. Finally, last night, the iPad had all my apps, with all my data (except some pictures I had synched from my iMac). But, when I reconnect to iTunes it treats the iPad as if it's "blank", wanting to either set up as a new iPad or restore from my back-up, and the restore process errors out near the end, resulting in the iPad having all the data, but iTunes seeing it as "blank" again.
Any ideas on how I can get my iTunes and iPad to agree on the status of my iPad?

Correction... now the restore from backup goes all the way through, BUT when the iPad reboots, iTunes still thinks it's "blank"... PLEASE help.

Library Corrupted -- Restore form Backup Loop

Greetings:
I recently upgraded to iPhoto 9.1.1 and now am in the following problem loop:
- When I first started iPhoto 9.1.1 I got the message that my iphoto library was corrupted and that I shoudl restore from backup.
- Restored from time machine backup with no problem (keeping original corrupted version).
- Restarted iPhoto 9.1.1
- iPhoto then asked to upgrade the library; cliked "Upgrade".
- library upgrade appears to complete successfully; I can navigate through my photos/events make edits, etc... everything appears nominal.
- Quit iPhoto
- Relaunch iPhoto: now I get the same message from step 1: "your library is corrupted, please restore from backup".
I've gone through the cycle 2 or 3 tiems now, restoring from backup and upgrading, etc...
Not sure what to try next...

Backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.

Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Apps fail to install during iPad restore from backup

I made a clean backup of my iPad2/iOS6, rebooted everything, then tried to restore from backup and there's a bunch of apps that failed to install. I've repeated this process 3x; every time it seems to be a different # of failed to install apps (3-80!!). I now have almost a full page of icons/folders with blank install bars under them.
Did anyone find a solution to this?!

Haven't tried setting up as new. I did the restore and then when itunes asked me, I selected the restore from a backup that was created yesterday. I'll try setup as new first and then restore from backup after? It's going to be a real pain if I have to start everything from scratch :(

HT1414 iPad restore from backup or new????

Hi ... While on holidays and adding a new application to my iPad ... I forgot my new password and had to reset my iPad up as new iPad!
I am now home and would like to add apps/files from my home computer! When I had plugged it in ... it asks me if I want to set up as 'new iPad' or restore from previous back up ... I am not sure what to do as I don't want to lose what I now have on the iPad since setting it up while on holidays!
What should I do????

There's a chance you can recover the backup using Windows System restore (restoring to an earlier restore point) or mac Time Machine. If it's there you will find it at one of the following locations:
Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
If you find it, put it on a flash drive then revert your system back to its current status (by undoing System Restore or ending Time Machine), then copy this backup from the flash drive to it's original location.

How long does the restore form backup last?

I found in my user folder in windows my last backup before OS 3.0 upgrade. The size of backup is 2,4 GB. How long does the restore take? I left it last night, and after 6 hours it wasnt even 50 % done, so i had to cancel restoring.

Hello, I got exactly the same problem. I bought two iPod Nano 2 GB one for me and one for my wif and hers was just ok. Mine on the contrary got a message from itunes that was not possible to transfer the musics to my iPod because there was no space on disk. And this without using it. I installed the updater from january 2006, but when trying to connect and update it there's a huge delay and the iPod Nano screen continues with the Do not disconnect message. Then I tried to restore it but it's displaying the same message for more than two hours. I am going to shut the restore dialog box and then disconnect it from windows and try to see how it goes...
If you have any ideas please give me some help.

Not if you carefully follow the procedure outlined in this user tip from wjosten: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive. If you're using iTunes 11 you'll want to first go to iTunes>View>Show Sidebar in order to follow this guide.
Edit: Sorry, didn't notice that you were restoring from the backup of an older phone. Before doing so, connect your phone to your computer without syncing and import your photos, as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, to avoid losing them when you restore to this backup. You will lose the app data from your current phone when you restore to the older backup.

RESTORE iPAD FROM SPECIFIC BACKUP

Hi guys,
I am currently running 4.2.1. WIth the hype of the new 4.2.1, I synched my iPad quite a few times. As a result, many backups were created. The problem is, I deleted a VERY important Note just after my first backup. I tried to restore the iPad form the backup, but iTunes only gives me the five or so most recent backups as options. I already Googled around and found the directory for the backups (User/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup), but there are many weird named folder and I cannot which one is from which time. Also, if I were to find the correct backup, how do I restore from that one?
Summary:
1) Please explain to me how to recognize the date (more precisely, hour) each backup was made
2) Please explain to me how to restore form that specific backup.

Are you sure you actually have the backup files on your computer? They are located at:
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
As part of your computer's regular backup routine (assuming you have one) you should include this folder to ensure that you can always restore iPad from backup file (i.e. a backup to the backup).

I am trying to update and restore a backup of an iPad. I ended up in an infinite loop of restoring and re-setting up the iPad. Help???? Suggestions?

This iPad had iOS 4.3.3 and I wanted to update it to the most recent software, 7.1. The first thing I did was I backed it up to my computer so I would be able to restore all of the photos and data after I had updated. At first, I tryed just clicking Update. It kept failing with error 9006. Then, I tryed the Restore and Update. This timed out even though it seemed to be moving alone just fine. The last thing I tried was to wipe the iPad and then update it. This worked. When it came up on my computer, it asked if I wanted to restore from a backup. I said yes and selected the backup that I made. It said Restoring. Afterwards, it took me through the normal process that you would go through to set up a new iPad. at the end of the setup, it asked if I would like to set it up as a new iPad, or restore from a backup. ???????? I tried to restore from backup and it started and endless loop of restoring and setting up, and restoring again. I eventually selected to set up as a new iPad. I cannot firgure out how to get the pictures back onto the iPad from the backup if the restore won't work. I was wondering if it is possible to find the picture files on my computer??? Does anybody have any suggestions or ran into the same problem???
FYI: I was a bit disapointed to learn that the online support chat now costs $20

I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.

Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):

I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

How can I restore an app and its data from an old ipad to a new ipad without restoring from backup?

When I purachsed and iPad 2 to replace my old iPad I did not want to restore it from backup for obvious reasons. However, there are apps that have data stored in them that I have lost the data for, what can I do to get the app and data back on the new iPad without losing the data that was already in the app?

The reasons may be obvious to you, but it makes no sense to me. I would think that you would want all of the content that you had transfered onto your new iPad.

If you lost the data in the apps, you can't get it back unless you restore from a backup - assuming that the backup DID have that data in the apps..
The only way that you can get the apps PLUS the app data onto the new iPad is to restore the new iPad from a backup of the original iPad and sync the apps back onto the new iPad if necessary.

I have backed up my ipad to my laptop prior to updating to the latest IOS and now I want to restore the backup back onto the ipad but it says there is not enough space? I have tried unticking all apps i no longer need, music etc but this still doesnt work

Before I did this I backed up the ipad to my laptop so I wouldnt lose precious pics and videos of my baby boy. Now that the latest version is on the ipad it is now asking me if I want to start as a new ipad or restore my backup from itunes. So i select restore my backup from itunes and connect to itunes but it now says there is not enough space to do so. I have a feeling it is because there are alot of pics on our ipad which i presume are all in this backup, many of which we do not need on the ipad anymore but I have no idea on how I go about deleting these pics?? Restoring an iPad from an iTunes-generated backup should not require an Apple ID password.
Did you encrypt the iPad backup? If so, then trying to restore will require entering the encryption password.

Itune forces to setup as new ipad or restore from backup?!

I have 3 ipads and 2 iphones in my house sharing the same apple ID, but when I tried to connect one of the ipads to itune on my PC, it only gives option to set up as new phone or restore from backup, either option would wipe out the data I already have on the ipad. All other devices can connect to itune without problems. Found another thread with the same problem, but the solution of logging on windows with different user does not solve my problem. Can anyone help? Itune has to be the worst and dumbest product from apple!

I too have this very frustrating issue. It worked fine 2 weeks ago.
I have two devices setup, and they have the same name, but that has never been a problem as one is a 5G 80GB iPod, and the other is an iPhone 3GS.
Now, everytime I plug my iPhone into my PC, iTunes comes up and asks me to restore.
Grrr... I have restored 3 times. I have also performed a complete iPhone reset and a restore... same thing, and I have no idea why.
