IPhone 3G displays apple logo for a few seconds then reboots (continuously)
Hi all,
So far my iPhone has gone from not turning at all to booting with the apple logo for a few seconds, then disappearing. My device will do this over and over again until the battery is dead. When I plug it into my computer, it works completely fine, syncs, restores, etc. The phone will remain powered on after unplugging from my computer, but my screen is unresponsive to touch and occasionally the lcd will become very dark (dimmed)
My assumption as of right now is that it is a hardware issue, any suggestions or pointers for my next steps? I'm running out of ideas before I give it up and send it to apple
Hello xtn,
As paulcb mentioned, try resetting the iPhone. The behavior you've mentioned would be consistent with a stuck Sleep/Power button. However, it is odd that it mounts and works OK with your computer. A physically stuck button would tend to cause the iPhone to repeatedly mount and dismount from iTunes as well.
One last thing you can try is to restore the iPhone and set it up as a new phone.
If the issue persists, you may need to have it serviced:

Iphone 3g shows Apple screen for a few seconds then shuts down
Hey everyone, I've searched all over for a fix for this, but can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem answered. I was away for a while and didn't use my phone, when I got home today it froze up two or three times, so I put it into recovery mode and went through the normal steps of restoring from my last backup no problem. The phone seemed to backup fine and got was syncing my music/photos/etc. and I decided to go for a run. I came back 45 minutes later and it was shut down and not doing anything. When I went to restart it the black and white Apple logo screen popped up like normal for about 15-20 seconds then it shut down. It continues to do this no matter what I try. The only issue I can think of is that the battery was really low when I plugged it in for the restore, but it made it to the sync portion without a problem, so I'd assume it should have been charging.
I've gone through all the recovery/restore steps I can find on the net. I've tried removing itunes from my computer and reloading it, both just with the application only and then all the correlating files. I've tried restarting about 15 times, plugging into different USB ports and even using my brother's powerbook to restore it. When I plug it in it recognizes that it's plugged in and the boot screen comes up, but it shuts down before it's recognized by itunes.
Has anyone had this problem and overcome it? Does anyone have any input other then referring me to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 or trying to put it into DFU? It's out of warranty and if at all possible I'd rather not buy a new one. Thanks in advance for your help.I guess, putting it in recovery mode and restoring it "as new phone" is your only chance if you can make it. Restoring from a backup may copy corrupt files back to your phone, causing this problem.

I have a classic, several years old.
It will not recharge; the Apple logo flashes every few seconds then disappears.
I have tried the 'reboot' advice i.e. move the Hold switch on and off, hold the Menu and Center buttons, no success.
I have tried this many times and kept the ipod connected for several hours. And I have tried two different cords, one connected to the desktop computer, one connected to electrical outlet.Hi enbridge4,
If your iPod Classic won't charge or turn on, you may find the following articles helpful:

iphone 4 has a black scrren which will display the apple logo and appears to be at start up but then blacks out for approx 10 seconds and then displays apple logo again. Same action over and over.
I have attempted hard reset but cannot complete. Also attempted to connect with itunes and it does not recongize device.
Device is frozen in this display loop. Have an appointment with genius bar tomorrow but it's a 2.5 hour round trip so suggestion appreciated.Your device may need to be restored as new in iTunes (instead of restored from a back up as it seems that there is a software issue on your phone).
If your phone is not able to connect in iTunes try forcing recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
* power off your phone.
* Hold the home button while connecting your phone to iTunes. You should see the connect to iTunes window and your computer should give you the recover mode alert.
*Restore your device as new. Being sure not to restore from a previous back up.
You will then want to sync your information back to your device from Outlook, iCloud, Google or wherever your information is stored. -
Last night while I was trying to delete an app, my iPod crashed. Usually it will restart just fine but it has not sucessfully turned off or restarted as far as I can tell. It stays on the black screen with the scrolling white wheel in the center and about every twenty minutes or so the screen will suddenly go white and then switch to the Apple logo like it's going to turn back on, but it just starts scrolling again. I have tried holding the lock button to try to get it to turn off and that hasn't worked and neither has going through the steps to reset (holding lock and home simultaneously until the apple logo appears). Any other suggestions or is it just toast?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

i have tried the whole menu an lock button trick but it still wont turn on past the apple logo.
Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

H ELPDid you try a hard reset? Hold the On button and the Home button until it powers down but continue to hold until it begins to power up again. See if that brings any success.

When I try to power up my iphone 4 32g, it will stay on the apple screen for a few seconds then turn off. even when I try connecting it to my computer it turns on for a few seconds then turns off. Whats wrong with it? and what do I do about it?
Have you tried charging it with another known working USB sync cable? After letting it sit to "charge" for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting the device by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

hello my name is kirstie, i updated to firmware 4.2.1 .....my iphone 3g stays on the apple logo for about 4 minutes then flashes white and goes back to the apple screen, it repeats untill battery is flat, every now and then im lucky enough to get it to turn on but not very often and then it freezes and repeats the same problem?? (if i turn the phone off my pressing the two buttons it wont keep rebooting, its only when i leave it after turning it on)
I have reset the phone, full firmware restore, even downgraded back from firmware 4.2.1 to .3.1.3 official by using dfu mode and still doesnt fix.
(i correctly got out of dfu mode after the downgrade)
i can enter dfu mode and recovery, and update through itunes with no problem, but it doesnt fix the problem,
i have searched and found no answer to this problem, every option availible to try that i know of i have tried and failed. i dont care about preserving my content i just want a fix. i have a good understanding how to operate software on a computer and shouldnt be too confused by any advice given, so plz even if the answer is very complex i wish to try anything, please help me to get my iphone working.Anyone have any suggestions? or is everyone else just as clueless as me !

My iphone 4s wont turn on,it wont even charge, when it does eventually start to charge the apple icon on the screen will appear for a few seconds then itll disappear, i have tried to do the soft/hard reset but nothing happens, can anyone help me please? do i have a dead iphone on my hands? isit worth me going into the apple store and seeing what they can do or isit pointless? please help!!!
Try to backup and restore you device in itunes...restoring the device is like removing the iOS software off the device and re-add in a newer software, after you have restore you device, MAKE SURE YOU SET UP YOUR DEVICE LIKE A NEW DEVICE, DONT NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP!!... give the device a chance to use the newer software and see if the issue still persisting, if the issue still on going then its would be a hardware issue.
