IPhone 3G (new) touchscreen doesn't respond

Hi,
I have a new (1 week for me from the AT&T store) iPhone 3G. The touchsreen freezes up with some regularity. It will always come back after the screen saver goes on and will sometimes come back before the screen saver activates. It doesn't seem to matter what application is up.
Any clues? Sorry if this is an oft asked question. I didn't see it on anything recent.

The actual restore deletes everything from the iPhone and reinstalls the OS. But, as part of the restore process you can choose to restore from the backup. That will bring back the data that are backed up - which includes notes, SMS messages, call history, favorites, Camera Roll photos, etc., as well as your settings. Following the backup, a sync takes place, which puts the synced info back, including contacts, calendar, and iTunes-managed media (music, videos, apps, photos).
So, between the backup and the sync, everything that was on there before gets put back.
In the event that a Restore does not correct the problem, contact AppleCare or visit an Apple Store; the iPhone is not repaired - in cases of hardware failure you are given a replacement phone. Sync the old phone before you go in, then you can restore the new phone from the backup. In that process, the only items that are not set up 'correctly' on the new iPhone are the Wi-Fi network passwords (intentional, a security precaution when restoring to a different device) and the home screen layout of all your apps (all the 3rd party apps are installed in alphabetical order after the default apps) - the layout issue is a bug, I think - may even have been corrected in iTunes 8.1.1 which was just released.
Good luck!

  • Ipad2 touchscreen doesn't respond

    Hello everybody,
I've had my new ipad2 for just one week. Now the touchscreen doesn't respond at all, even after pressing the home button and start button for 7 seconds and restarting again. Can anybody help me?

I've had my N97 less than a month - everything was fine (even though it was a bit laggy) until Sunday when the touchscreen just stopped working.  Tried rebooting, taking the battery & the sim out (& leaving them out), updated the firmware, did a hard reset, and . . . nothing worked.
Today after work I took off the clear crystal protective cover I put on on Friday & - hey presto!  Touchscreen is back!  I guess the cover was interfering with the proximity sensor (although why it worked for two full days & then suddenly stopped is anyone's guess).
Don't know if this helps anyone but I thought I'd share it anyway . . .  (by the way, I've put the cover back on & it seems to be working fine)

  • My iphone 6's touchscreen sometimes not responding   what can i do?

my iphone 6's touchscreen sometimes not responding   what can i do?

User troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If after a restore as new, you are still experiencing a problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or authorized Apple Service Provider to have the hardware checked depending on your location.

  • My Iphone 5 touch screen doesn't respond to touch

Although I can hard reset, my iPhone 5 suddenly stopped responding to touch. Calls come in and texts, but I can't answer or open the phone since the screen doesn't respond to any touch. I am unable to get to AT&T or Apple right now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  • HT201406 Lost my iPhone in the toilet, touchscreen doesn't respond. What to do?

So i managed to drop my iPhone in the toilet..
Worked for a few moments, but then the touchscreen stopped responding, which lead to not being able to turn it off. The power button was half jammed from earlier that week, and in the desperation of flickin and clickin it got stuck. It later turned off due to empty battery.
It was a stessful day, and i only had time to put it in my pocket rolled inside some tissues and hope for the best.
Before bedtime i put it in a drying room. It was there till around 9am next morning. I had to turn it on (via charging it) because my train ticket was only available on the phones app. The phone turned on normally and wasnt icy cold or too hot, the push notifications popped up on the screen and the screen was lit up as it should. The only problem was (and still is) that the screen isn't responding to any touch. Siri is working and can do some tasks, but as you'll understand i need the screen aswell.
This occured 2 days ago, and the screen isn't functioning yet. The phone is dry like a desert, and everything else is as it should.
    Any suggestions?

Probably Your Touch screen input is damaged. Visit nearest apple service centre and replace it.

  • Touchscreen doesn't respond!

    hi everyone,
i had used my ipod touch 2g for a few months when i decided i was gonna give it to my sister as a present. i then thought the best thing to do was to give it a restore with the original 2.2.1 firmware so she can put all her stuff on it.
now, as soon as i did that, i was unable to reboot the ipod, the only way i could get it to work was to restore it with the original firmware (and even then it only worked until the baterry ran out or i restarted it!).
since then ive tried different firmware restores (also with DFU mode), following many tutorials but everything has left me with an ipod thats stuck on the boot logo.
now, to put the cherry on top, i tried to restore it once again and now the touchscreen doesnt respond to my finger!! ive even paid to update it to 3.0, which updated "fine", but still didnt respond to my finger flicks, and when i restarted it, it simply got stuck on the apple boot logo again. also what ive noticed is that the shininess scrolling text effect over the word "slide to unlock" seems to be unusually laggy or choppy. the buttons work fine, maybe a little unusually laggy but even the double tap to get the music menu up works. just no touchscreen response...
after that, once its off, stuck as boot again...
what is going on here? it cant possibly be a hardware problem since i havent moved the **** thing from my desk since it used to work fine.
i would be soo so so so grateful if someone could help me out here, ive been so frustrated trying to fix it in every possible way. and there is no apple store in vienna for me to go to to get it fixed!
thank you for any help or advice you can give me,
    Vanja

  • IPhone 5 touchscreen won't respond until lock button is pressed.

Got a wierd problem.  I replaced a cracked display in my wife's iPhone 5 and now the touchscreen is having issues.  It happens like this:
    1. Hit the home button, lock/unlock button or a call comes in
    2. touchscreen doesn't respond
    3. hit the lock/unlock button to lock the phone
    4. hit home button or lock/unlock again
    5. touchscreen works perfectly now
Happens every single time.  With or without case.  I was wondering if it might be a grounding issue, but not sure how to fix it.  What's the deal?

Bummer.  Try asking at http://www.ifixit.com or some place similar.
The iPhone is not considered user servicable. Apple does not sell iPhone parts. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts.
Now that you opened it yourself, Apple won't touch it in or out of warranty.

  • Screen ipad doesn't respond during video viewing home sharing with multiple iOS devices simultaneously

A have a problem with the videos app and iTunes home sharing on multiple iOS devices.
This is my setup. On my iMac 2006 with Snow Leopard I have:
    - 100+ dvd's ripped in my iTunes movie section
    - 600+ episodes ripped in iTunes TV-section in 35 TV-shows
    - 1 apple tv, 1 iPad 2, 1 iPad mini
On an average evening my family is watching different tv-shows simultaneously on the apple tv, the ipad, an iphone, and an ipad mini.
This is done through home sharing on the one iTunes library.
    All updated apps, software etc..
What happens on the ipads, after viewing for more than 10 minutes, the user interface doesn't show up when tapping the screen. The touchscreen doesn't respond, only the home button works. Clicking the home button closes the app, but the sound of the video keeps on playing. Opening up the videos app again gives a black screen with sound still playing and still no button or UI.
The only workaround which currently works is killing the videos app. Power off the ipad and power on again, reconnect to the shared library, wait until it has found all the content (1+ minutes) and startup the tv show again.
All in all, a nasty way to pause your viewing or switching to another movie of tv episode, or even wanting to finish viewing.
The problem has haunted me for a year now, patiently waiting and hoping software-updates would fix it. They didn't.
A fix would obviously hugely improve my user experience, getting it on par with Apples usual quality of service.
Anyone familiar with this problem? Apple: is it possible to fix it in an update?

Same here for over a year now.
You cant imagine how happy i am that im not the only one with this problem.
many of frinds have the same setup as me (ipad 2, 27"imac, express, apple tv 2)
    No problem
I had the problem on Snow Leopard, lion and now on mountain lion.
I'am also starting to get a new problem - sometimes when waching a movie on iPad or ATV it just quits the movie and you have to start it again
on the iPad most of the time it also shows the wrong cover art. I tried all the hints here, and i works for a day or two then its wrong again
I store my itunes library on an external drive - you ???

My iphone 4s Doesn't respond or power on/off, The screen is like if it is turned off, no voice no nothing, but when I call it from another phone it doesnt say that it is off, I hear ringing but my iphone is dead with no voice or light or anything,
This happened to me before the iphone battery was 20% and after 5 min this happend, I connected it to the charger for more than half an hour but even the red battery light that indicate the recharging process didn't came up, after 3 hours when I gave up and was going to find someone to fix it I put on the charger for the last time and it WORKED so I thought maybe that was something with the battery and no problem, Than was 2 months ago, It happened again this morning I found the same thing and tried everything but nothing works .. after 3 or 4 hrs it worked again,
What is wrong with my iphone? it's new I bought it 4 months ago, never falls on the ground as I take very good care of it, what should I do?
The problem is that I Live in Kuwait, and when I searched for apple support in Kuwait I found nothing, What Do u guys think the problem is? what should I do about it ?

No, it is not Apple's official forum. It is a user to user forum. If no user knows the solution then no one will post an answer. Likewise if no one understands your question.

  • I need to backup my iPhone, but it is locked and the touchscreen doesn't work

So I dropped my 3 year old iphone in the toilet and now the touchscreen doesn't work.  I want to backup the information so I can transfer my apps to the new phone, but I have my phone locked and I cannot enter the code because, as I said, the touchscreen doesn't work.  How can I back up my old phone?

If you back it up using the computer it normally syncs to, you won't be prompted for the passcode. If you have not been syncing it with a computer, then you're pretty much out of luck at this point.

iPhone 6 screen doesn't respond 80% of the time.  And then it will get a mind of it's own and dial people on my favorites and open apps randomly.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
