IPhone 3G - No support for wired remote controls?

I have been looking all over the place for a wired remote for the iPhone 3G with no luck (and yes I have looked through this forum for an answer before asking my question).
I have attempted to use three wired remotes from my previous iPods, but two of them do not work at all and the third is completely unreliable. It is an Apple branded wired remote for the iPod video with similar design to the iPod Shuffle and allows you to connect your own headphones. It will only function after a hard-reset of the iPhone 3G, and strangely it takes about a minute or two for the buttons to work. If I unplug and replug the remote it will no longer be recognised and will not work again until the iPhone 3G is restarted.
I cannot see any wired remote products in the Apple store and I keep getting blank stares whenever I take this question to sales persons.
I use my iPod extensively and the only reason I bought an iPhone 3G was because I was tired of missing calls whilst listening to mp3s. I consider the wired remote as being essential for satisfactory use when out running, driving the car, etc. Without it the iPod functionally is all but useless to me.
Is there a wired remote that the iPhone 3G supports?
Additionally, are there any iPhone 3G compatible bluetooth devices that essentially perform the same function and allow you to attach your own headphones?

I've been looking for a decent remote for exactly the same reasons since I bought the 3g iPhone on release day. I settled for the Griffin SmartTalk as it allows you to answer calls, play / pause and skip (forward only meh!). Its cheap as chips (and it looks and feels as such) but it kinda does the job. Still waiting for a decent remote though. And A2DP for crying out loud! Its been long enough already. Then I could get this... http://www.foneshop.com/accessories/description/2486
which I feel is the best solution I've seen!

All those views and no responses, eh.
    Thanks Apple.
For continuing to throw your loyal customers under the bus and forcing them to buy new accessories with each generation of iPod/iPhone I will never, ever buy another Apple product again.

  • Zen Micro Wired Remote Control Prob

Anybody having problems with their supplied zen micro wired remote control?
Mine seems to be having a connection problem with the player, slight movements will cause breakages in the music, left earphones will cease playing out.
Seems that some people are having problems with zen micro's earphone jacks, however, using the supplied the earphones(minus the wired remote control) works well.

hmm, I had same problem with 2 days- was definetly a loose connection in the wiring of the remote plug, as has been no problem with other headpohnes, and is not the 'heasdphone jack' issue (yet! thank god!)
took 3 weeks to get replacement remote from creative (only returned remote, not Zen, luckily) have not really messed around with the replacement yet, but looks ok.... am really hoping so cos it is really useful for going mountain biking with the zen nice & secure in my backpack....

  • Zen Touch optional wired remote control to play FM radio how do I get it? or can it work without

One of the reasons why i am thinking of buying a zen touch is becuase it has a FM radio built in. From the website it says you need an optional wired remote control to listen to the radio, where can i get one in the uk? or can it work without it's

The Zen Touch doesn't have a radio built-in. You'd need this:

The Zen Micro does have an FM tuner built-in.

  • DMA from host to FPGA target is not supported for this remote system.

I am trying tocommunicate with my FPGA (on the cRIO 9002) from the RTOS.  I setup up anOpen the correct VI reference with no error but as soon I try to access thefifo I receive error -63001 and the attached message says:
Error -63001 occurredat Open FPGA VI Reference in target - multi rate - variables - fileIO_old.vi
    Possible reason(s):
NI-RIO FPGACommunications Framework:  (Hex 0xFFFF09E7) DMA from host to FPGA targetis not supported for this remote system. Use another method for I/O or changethe controller associated with the FPGA target.
What other I/O optionsdo I have to move data asynchronously from the RTOS to the FPGA. I triedcreating memory but it appears that I can not write to the memory from the RTOSside.
We also have a 9012sitting around will using this cRIO instead solve this problem.
I am very very greenwhen it comes to LabView so I apologize if this is an easy question.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As stated in the NI-RIO driver readme,
DMA is not supported from the host to the FPGA on the cRIO-900x series.
The cRIO-901x controller supports DMA transfers from host to FPGA and
FPGA to host while the cRIO-900x series controllers only support FPGA
to host DMA transfers. Therefore, LabVIEW returns an error if you try
to transfer using DMA from the cRIO-900x controller.
The 9012 looks like the ideal solution, you are very lucky to be having extra hardware laying around

  • Best practice for using remote control under limited rights?

Hi. We are getting ready to take admin rights away from our users and make them standard users. We plan to utilize Zen for most of our in-scope applications so that we can allow users to install supported software. There is usually no problem in that case because Zen can elevate to System access during the install. However, we know that there are applications out there that a user may want to install that is not packaged in Zen. Also, in the event that a system setting needs to be changed, we will have to have a method for supporting this. In either case, the user will call our help desk. Unfortunately, the user will not have enough rights to do the install or system change even if the help desk associate remote control's the PC. What is the best practice to handle this situation in a Netware/Zenworks environment where users only have limited access?
I was thinking of three possibilities:
1.) The obivous one is to send a technician over to log in using local admin credentials to install the software or perform the change. (Drawback - not very efficient because a desktop tech would have to get over to the user's PC to perform the work)
2.) Have the help desk engineer log out of the machine through remote control, log back in as local admin to install the software or perform the change. (Drawback - not very convienant and time consuming.)
3.) Have the help desk engineer use the "run as" command or even create a Zen application object that could be executed to provide temporary rights for installing software or making system changes. Aaron Margosis of Microsoft writes about this quite a bit in his blog Aaron Margosis' "Non-Admin" WebLog : Table of Contents (Aaron Margosis' Non-Admin WebLog) (Drawback - some software or settings will not work properly using this technique)
The last one that I didn't list was creating a new application object. I did not factor this one in because this isn't always applicable to system changes and we really don't want to be making app objects for every out of scope app that exists in the user community. We typically only make them for widely used and supported apps.
    Your feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks

That's probably an option that we will make available. I wasn't sure how some things will work under the SYSTEM context vs local admin.

  • Accept Certificate Fingerprints for all remote controlled WS

Frustrating thing is that one has to accept the certificate for each and every remote controlled PC.
One of our hotline guys got a new Harddisk (no roaming Profile) and all started from beginning. So I found a solution: I exported the registry from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\ZCM\Remote Management\Viewer\Settings\DeviceFingerprints from another PC and imported it for the user on the new PC. OK everything working again without any question "Accept this certificate ...".
So I created a bundle with the following Launch Script Action and assigned it to all of my helpdesk users:
    reg export "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\ZCM\Remote Management\Viewer\Settings\DeviceFingerprints" \\Srv1\Vol1\Dir1\DevFngrPrnt%COMPUTERNAME%.reg
    copy /y \\Srv1\Vol1\Dir1\DevFngrPrnt*.reg \\Srv1\Vol1\Dir1\AllDevFngrPrnt.reg
    reg import \\Srv1\Vol1\Dir1\AllDevFngrPrnt.reg
So with every launch all Fingerprints get exported and all the other users will import all of them. But still at least one Admin need to permanently accept the certificate.
Of course there are a lot of duplicates since each user exports the same Fingerprints. But the import takes care of it and just leaves one fingerprint for each device.
My QUESTION now: Where can I extract that Fingerprint directly from all the remote machines distribute it to all Hotline users? I did not find the source of it.
    Thanks Klaus

  • How to set Menu and Title functionality for a remote control in a menu?

I have a main menu (countries) and under each country there is a submenu (regions). When I play my DVD on my Mac it seems to function alright:
If I go to country C and hit the "menu" button, nothing happens (I see the "action prohibited" line popping up). And nothing should happen of you hit menu in a submenu. Only if you hit Title/Top menu you should be able to go to the main menu.
However... When I play my DVD on a DVD player (and I tested it on 2 different ones) and I go to a the Country C and hit the "menu" button, I am suddenly transfered to Country A. And if I go from the main menu to Country D and I hit the "menu" button, I go to... Country A. The menu button seems to be linked to the first submenu. Which is very odd!
So there is definately something going very wrong when using the menu/title buttons during playback when I am in a submenu (not while playing a track).
Can someone help me? Is there a way to define what happens with the remote control buttons menu or title when you are in a submenu and NOT playing a track? I can not find any controls for that.
    Thanks!

Does this mean I should select "not set" in the general tab at the dropdown menu's for Title, Menu and Return in the Remote Control section? I can't find any other place where I can select menu or title.
But if I set these to "not set",the menu and title buttons still work in simulation mode... So I guess I should do something else in order to disable menu and title? Sorry for the amount of questions from my side!

  • IPhone Dev/Store - Support for in-game points of sale?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm currently putting together a revenue plan for our iPhone application and have run across a question that could really change some of our technical planning, depending on the answer...
*I'm curious if the iPhone Developer Program/iPhone store will allow for in-game sales* - that is, an upsell point within the game itself (say after a trial ends) where the user can opt to upgrade to the full version of the game and make the purchase from within the application itself.
Services like Xbox Live Arcade and a lot of the PC casual games market have used techniques like these with REALLY great results, and it'd be great to see some support from Apple on this front.
I know info's scarce right now due to the NDA, but is there somewhere like a public announcement that I could have missed this?
    Hoping for the best,
    Luca

No one here would have the answer to that. http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action may be able to help you out or at least get you pointed in the right direction.
