IPhone 3GS  OS 4.0.1 - *****! ruing completely my iPhone User Experience

I just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to the new 4.0.1 OS
why ?
because Apple says in their site "its great".
No one ever told me its going to slow my iPhone performance significantly.
No one ever told me its going to consume my battery so fast, I couldn't leave my office
without taking a charging cable...
No one ever told me I wouldn't be able to downgrade back to the "Factory Default" operating
system.
Hmm sorry - when I upgraded, I clicked on the "Next" button on the "terms and conditions"
and in line 1,847,453 in the terms document it said that this is one way ticket and its my
problem. hmm, sorry I missed it Apple !!!
want some support from Apple ?
PAY FOR IT
want some information, some news from Apple telling "listen, we know, wait a couple of
weeks, we will fix this..." - NOTHING. the only thing you here from Apple is: "We are
perfect! there is nothing wrong with us"
this is crazy.
I was an iPhone addicted and now I am looking to get rid of my iPhone and have nothing to do
with this company.
this is NOT the way to treat your customers, Apple !
All I can tell you:
Never upgrade to 4.0.1 - it will slow your iPhone and consume your battery so fast - you
won't be able to think about anything else except charging all the time.
if you have a whole day out of the office or you are going out of home for the whole day -
forget about your iPhone (with OS 4.0.1). its going to consume its battery completely half
the day through just by talking over the phone.
no apps running, no GPS, no games, no roaming.... just talking... and the battery betray
you.
If anyone know any way to restore my original OS ("Restore" on iTunes do not restore the OS)
- I would love to hear about it. I don't really want to get rid of my iPhone but Apple leave
me no choice.
Bye Bye iPhone
Hello Samsung / Android
Adir

And no he is not over reacting. I did the same thing. Trusted Apple that the upgrade was good. After five weeks of syncing not work king, tethering not working and battery draining after two hours at 60% I finally called Apple. Even though my 3Gs is out of warranty, they are giving me a support case at no charge. They got tethering working. They told me that the battery issue is probably due to multitasking. They showed me how to see what tasks are running.
For those or you who do not know; Press the home button twice. All the applications that are running appear. To close them, hold your finger on one of them until they start to 'shake'. You can close the ones you do not want by tapping on the red x on the top left corner of the icon of the application you want to close.
They solved tethering by enabling it in device manager on my laptop.
I can sync calendar and contacts. Notes will not sync. Apple support has now spent over four hours trying to get notes to sync. At one point they had me create a new user on my laptop. On the new user we set installed outlook and i tunes. I created one new note and synced successfully. But back at the original user it still did not work. I uninstalled outlook, renamed the pst files and installed outlook new. I entered one new note in outlook and synced. It did not appear on the phone. Apple had me delete the mobile profile, install new software and try again, oh and disabled avg anti virus and windows fire wall. No success. So now Apple has referred this to their engineers. They say they usually respond in 24-48 hours.
I know this is an issue for many people. So as soon as I have an update I will post it here.

My Iphone 3GS has just restored and I completed the things on the Iphone and then it says no sim card activated and I tried everything it said if it does not work, but nothing seems to work?

All iPhones require a SIM for activation.
Insert a SIM in the iPhone.

I have an iphone 3gs and my girlfriend has an iphone 4s. I am unable to send her imessages but able to send imessages to other iphone users! Any answers?

Send a message from the 3GS to the 4S... once sent, tape the bubble and an option should be prompted to send as iMessage... give that a try and see if it forces things back over.
Also, confirm the contact settings are accurrate.

  • New iPhone user needs guidance setting up 4 iPhones for family - best approach?

Hi - I'm a new iPhone user tasked with setting up 4 iPhones for family (three 4S, one 3GS). I set up the first 4S using my mother's existing Apple ID (she has an iPad) and I think (hope) hers is fine. When I set up my father's phone, my sister said to enter my mother's Apple ID during setup since they wanted to use a single Apple ID for iTunes purchases. The setup screen I'm referring to the 7th screen into the setup process for a new iPhone 4S (after the Welcome, Language, Country/Region, Location Services, Wi-Fi Networks, and Set Up iPhone screens), where it asks you to "Sign In with an Apple ID" or "Create a Free Apple ID". This screen was where I entered my mother's Apple ID into my father's phone.
By entering my mother's Apple ID on my father's phone at this point during setup, I seem to have created a "clone" of her phone - their phone numbers are distinct and they can call each other but iMessages sent to either of them initially appeared on BOTH phones. I think I have now fixed that by creating a separate Apple ID for my father after the fact and entering it under Settings>Messages. Thinking I could also enter his new Apple ID under Settings>iCloud, I found I could not change it from my mother's Apple ID (it's greyed out). I saw a recommendation in another post to click on the red "Delete Account" button at the bottom, but will that delete my mother's entire account or only its association with my father's phone?
Backing up a step or two, I'm worried that at this point I should have entered/created a new Apple ID on screen #7 during initial setup of my father's phone (instead of entering my mother's Apple ID), and that just changing settings in iMessage, iCloud, etc. won't really fix any problem(s) I've created. I hesitate to set up the other two phones before knowing how badly I've already messed things up with this one.
During the initial set up of my father's iPhone, should I have created/entered his own unique Apple ID on screen #7 instead of entering my mother's Apple ID? (and then on his phone AFTER setup was complete, changing to my mother's Apple ID under Settings>Store so that all purchases are shared)?
If yes, do I need to restore his phone to factory settings and set it up as a new phone so his phone behaves like his and not a clone of hers?
Without knowing what might be the best way to set up these 4 new iPhones, I was thinking the four unique users of these new phones would most likely want to share apps (by purchasing them with one Apple ID), backup/synch to one computer, but maintain separate iCloud accounts so everyone's info is private? I've spent time reading other posts and see so many different recommendations for families with multiple devices that my head is spinning. Many include questions from folks migrating from older phones or MobileMe. I think my situation is simpler in that there are 4 new iphones and one existing Apple ID. Have I missed some comprehensive post that clarifies the best way to set things up for families new to iPhones, or do needs vary so much that no single best way exists? Given my situation (and depending on which way I should proceed regarding having set up my father's phone with my mother's Apple ID), should I create/enter a separate Apple ID for each new phone user during initial setup so each phone is distinct from the others, and AFTER setup is complete, changing the iTunes and Store info to the shared Apple Id for purchases? Or can I customize each individual phone after the fact in Settings>Whatever so that even if I've entered the same Apple ID on Screen #7 during initial new phone setup, the 4 phones will ultimately be set up correctly?
So sorry to have to ask such basic questions. Many thanks, in advance, for any guidance provided to help me not make any (more?) mistakes during setup that will be a real headache to remedy later, once everyone has started using their phones.

Hi edgefield, sorry you're having so much trouble.
FIRST CREATE A BACKUP ON YOUR COMPUTER -ALWAYS BEFORE PLAYING WITH THE INFORMATION ON THE PHONES (it prevents losses)
    Now I'll answer your questions)
During the initial set up of my father's iPhone, should I have created/entered his own unique Apple ID on screen #7 instead of entering my mother's Apple ID? (and then on his phone AFTER setup was complete, changing to my mother's Apple ID under Settings>Store so that all purchases are shared)?
Yes.  Create his own apple id and sign him in.  then tap settings ->store -> tap on the account name -> sign out.
Then sign in your fathers apple id.  (create your fathers apple id on the computer, its much easier, trust me).
If yes, do I need to restore his phone to factory settings and set it up as a new phone so his phone behaves like his and not a clone of hers?##
No.  Tap settings -> icloud, and turn everything off (keep on the phone option).  Then DELETE ACCOUNT (it's got red around it and at the bottom of the screen if you scroll down).  You cannot sign out of iCloud, you can only delete the account.  Then clean up the contacts and information on the phone.
Then you tap settings -> iCloud and sign in.  Put your fathers apple id in the section.  His information will be uploaded to www.icloud.com.  Then go to www.icloud.com and sign in with his apple id.  Make sure his information is uploaded (you'll have to select timezone and such).
From that point you are fine except for iMessage.
For iMessage to function properly, only one apple id can be signed into the iTunes store (settings -> store).  If they are both signed into the same apple id on the iTunes store, than you need to turn off iMessage on one of the phones.  The iMessage may be delievered to either phone when both are signed in under the same apple id in the iTunes store.
tap settings -> messages -> imessage off
This also disables facetime.  If you want them to have iMessage and Facetime, they have to have seperate apple id's signed into the iTunes store.
Have I missed some comprehensive post that clarifies the best way to set things up for families new to iPhones, or do needs vary so much that no single best way exists?
Not that I've seen, will consider creating one if I have time.
Your best bet is to create each apple id on the computer (keyboards are easier to use) and then sign them each in during the creation process.  Then change the iTunes store info to the stored apple id.
This will allow each person to serpate iClouds without interfering with each others Cloud as you set up new devices.
Or can I customize each individual phone after the fact in Settings>Whatever so that even if I've entered the same Apple ID on Screen #7 during initial new phone setup, the 4 phones will ultimately be set up correctly?
Doing it this way can cause problems (or used to, not sure if it still does), initially, when you set it up, it wants to create a backup or upload the blank info to iCloud.  You are better off setting up their own apple id first and signing in with that, and then changing it in the iTunes store.
I'm off to bed, I'll check this thread tomorrow and see if you have any more questions/problems.  Remember, always create a back-up before you do anything.

  • Having a great iPhone 3G experience? You're not alone.

Given that this is a support forum, it's to be expected that it's primarily composed of people with issues with their iPhones. However, since several people in other posts have mentioned they are dropping by here to do some research before purchasing an iPhone, I thought I'd discuss my experience with a new Black 16 GB iPhone 3G.
    Reception
Reading many of the posts in a few threads, I get the impression that people base their entire opinion of the iPhones reception on the number of bars the screen displays. This is a very flawed method. This [review|http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/iPhone-3G.htm] does a great job of describing why and is a must read for anyone considering a purchase. It's also a must read for those who think their iPhone is defective because it gets 1 or 2 bars while their buddy's Nokia gets 3 or 4. Basically it's up to the phone manufacturer to decide how many bars to display based on signal strength. Some phone makers, like Nokia, are much more generous with the bars than Apple is on the iPhone. The article I linked to uses actual signal strength measurement to compare and shows with identical signals the iPhone will show fewer bars than the Nokia. Bars do not tell the whole story when it comes to reception, and I'll describe my experience with the iPhone which backs up that claim.
I live in Pasadena, CA. With my original iPhone I got very average reception. In my office, the iPhone was all but unusable, and this was true of most people's phones. Around town reception was all over the place, but generally acceptable.
With the the iPhone 3G, things have improved. Around town I generally get 3 to 5 bars of 3G reception. In the Old Town area I've got 5 bars. Making calls is no problem, and the voice quality is far superior to my original iPhone. I've had no dropped calls and no service issue. In terms of data, the iPhone screams. Using this [speed test site|http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html], I'm getting results between 920 and 980 kbps (1275 highest, 580 lowest). In the exact same spots, using my wife's original iPhone, we're getting 70-95 kbps, with several failed tests. That's a huge improvement!
Moving indoors, the 3G reception drops considerably. In my office, the iPhone switches automatically to Edge. However, unlike my original iPhone, I'm now getting good Edge reception in my office, usually 4 bars. Far more importantly, I can actually make and receive calls! At my home, 3G drops to 1 bar. However, I can still make calls without a problem. Data drops in half, with results between 390 & 550 kbps. This is still much faster than Edge however, but not as fast as areas with better reception.
Keep in mind that 3G reception indoors is expected to drop. AT&T keeps 3G on the 1900 MHz band, which isn't nearly as good as the 850 MHz band for penetrating buildings. For now, as there are far more Edge phones, AT&T is keeping Edge on the 850 MHz band. As this changes, indoor 3G reception will improve. I read in one of the other forum topics that one poster was furious with Apple and returning his iPhone 3G because he only got 1 bar of 3G service in his basement and he got 5 bars of Edge. He can be furious at Apple all he wants, but AT&T's 3G service, as currently implemented, isn't going to give you good reception in basements.
In my home and my office I have WiFi, so the 3G reception isn't nearly as critical as when I'm out and about. On the WiFi front, I'm happy to report that the iPhone 3G has improved range. I can actually walk out to my driveway, get in my vehicle, and drive away before losing signal. With my old iPhone, as soon as I closed the front door, the connection to my network was lost. This is a very nice, and unexpected, improvement!
    GPS
GPS works great, and the "assisted" part really makes a difference. Using the GPS on the new iPhone is much, much more accurate that the old iPhone's methods of locating you. That's not a surprise, but what is surprising is how fast it locates me. Doing a side by side test with a Hertz Neverlost system, the iPhone pinpointed my initial location about 40 seconds faster than the Neverlost. That may not seem like much, but it feels like a long time when you're sitting in the car waiting to move.
+Creepy side note: I was playing around with the GSP in my house the other day. I zoomed in real close in Google maps and got right on top of my house. Walking from the back of my house to the front, the blue dot actually followed me. Yikes! I can't say why exactly, but it kind of bothered me. I guess I watch too much "24" and the like. :)+
    _Speaker Volume_
The speaker volume is much improved with the iPhone 3G. If my old iPhone was in another room, there was a better than even chance I wouldn't hear it ring, even with the volume turned all the way up. With the new iPhone, I actually have to turn some of my ring tones down. Calls on the speaker phone are much louder with better clarity. I suppose it'll never be loud enough for some, but it's a big step up from the original iPhone and is just right for me.
    _New Software_
As this is something available to all iPhone owners, I won't talk much about it, other than to say the app store is simply amazing. I've got 4 screens of apps already (some complete time wasters, some really useful) and the store just launched. With everything 1.0 atm, there are some bugs to be sure, but not as many as I feared. Most apps run great and are very addictive. My favorites include Loopt, Shazam, Pandora, Mobile News, Remote (best app if you have an AppleTV), Tap Tap, and iPint. I can't wait to see what the future holds!!
    Battery
Battery life has been better than I had expected. I thought I'd have to charge my iPhone at least once, maybe twice, during the day. That's not been the case. If I leave the house in the morning with a fully charged iPhone, it's good for the entire day. This includes a ton of texting, music/audio book listening on my drive, dozens of calls, email, and web browsing. In fact, because it's so new and cool, I play with it much more than I typically would.
I've got a MobileMe account set up with Push. I get around 20 messages an hour pushed to my MobileMe account. When I wake up in the morning, there will often be 100 messages waiting in my inbox. I mention that to say that even with a lot of pushed email, my battery is still lasting a full day. I should also note that I'm on WiFi most of the day, and keep all services (3G, WiFi, Push, etc.) turned on at all times.
    Issues
There are a couple of issues, which is to be expected with a new product and new software. I've run into the typing lag issue a few times. It's inconsistent however and not always present. I can usually text and type email without any lag, but if I'm on a web page and typing something into a search field, for example, it can get very laggy. This is something I expect to be fixed in a future software update.
The iPhone doesn't fit in my dual dock for my Apple bluetooth headset & iPhone and they aren't making a new one!!
    Summary
I'm very happy with the new iPhone. It's everything I hoped it would be and then some. The 3G service is more than twice as fast for me than Edge, and has worked very well when I've needed to use it. WiFi range is improved. The ringer and volume is better. GPS works well and I will no longer be using a Neverlost system on my business trips. I recommend one highly!

It's great to see that narcissism is alive and well (Raul, I'm thinking of you buddy). Apparently if Raul's iPhone isn't working, then no one has an iPhone that is working. If you think your iPhone is working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know how to make or receive a phone call properly.
Unfortunately many posts of people who claim to have no issues with their 3G iPhones sound pretty much the same.
"If my iPhone 3G is working, then nobody can have one that is not."
"If you think your iPhone is NOT working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know how to make or receive a phone call properly."
"If you think your iPhone is NOT working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know squat about cell networks and 3G.
Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.

  • Still can't receive messages from Iphone Users

    Greetings,
I know there are many topics asking similar questions if it's googled, and I think I have read through almost all of them to no prevail. I know veterans of these boards probably get tired of seeing the same topics, but im desperate and will try to keep it quick. I really appreciate any help.
I recently upgraded from a 4S to a Galaxy S5 and have not been able to receive messages from Iphone users since. I still have my old Iphone. Here are the steps I've tried:
    1) Ensure "IMessage" is disabled in my old phone
    2) Unregistered my phone number with my Apple ID. I currently have no phone numbers registered with them
    3) Changed my Apple ID Password
    4) Unregistered my Iphone with my ITunes Account.
    5) I also have a Macbook Air and a 2010 model IMac. I have also ensured I am signed out on those devices and my phone number isn't linked in anyway I could find.
    6) I called Apple 3 Days ago and the representitive was very nice and professional but ultimately was incorrect. He advised me that the new IoS7 is more advanced and should check about every 12 hours to see if the user on the other end has an active IMessage account. He said to wait 24 hours just to be safe. He also advised people running older IOS systems could take up to 3-4 days to contact me correctly. Furthermore he said if after that time frame their phones still sent me IMessages instead of SMS then THEY were having problems and should call Apple. I just really doubt that is the case.
I have tested it out with 5 Iphones now with help from some friends, all running IOS7 and still no luck 3 days after the phone call to Apple.
    7) I tried logging back into IMessage today on my Macbook and it worked, I was still able to send and receive texts from Iphone users. This seems like it should not be possible since it is not linked to my phone number anymore. It is logged into the same Email that I used to have linked to my phone number.
Now as others have said, If I have them hold down the bubble and send as text message 3 times their phone will remember and keep sending my texts, however that is unreasonable to ask everyone to do. There should just be a way to completely delete your Apple ID. Is there anything I'm possibly overlooking? I really appreciate any help.

I am right there with you. This describes my problem to a T. Only other issue I am having is group texts. Iphone users who include me in a group text still send as imessages as well, so even if I text them first and they reply, it send as an imessage. Get it together apple.

  • How do I fix a problem group messaging with one non-iphone user and several iphone users?

My brother switched from an iphone to another smart phone several months ago. The rest of our family all have iphones. When he made the switch, my sister suddenly had problems with group messages going through for him--they went through as imessages for her instead of SMS or MMS. I didn't have that problem until a few days ago. I upgraded to an iphone 6 about a week ago, and group messaging my brother worked fine at first, and then a couple of days ago, suddenly stopped working. If I am texting him singly, it's fine. But in group texts, it automatically sets at imessage.
He has called apple and his number is completely deregistered with imessage. Does anyone know what else we can try? I have deleted all previous messages that were imessage and deleted and re-entered him as a contact.

I'm assuming neither of you heard back from anyone?  I'm having the same issue - just in the last few days.  The non-iphone user is not receiving texts from the group message because it is sending as an imessage.  It flipped to imessage randomly last week.  I've tried to delete the group message and restart it; same issue.  Would love to hear how to resolve, Apple!

  • Iphone users cannot text me after switching platforms. Please Help

Ok, So I just started a new job and have been assigned a company phone. My company phone is a Samsung Note 3. I have been using an AT&T iPhone 5. I went a day or so with very little text messages coming on to the phone and was currious why i was not getting responses from friends. After an angry phone call from my boss, I realized I was only getting text messages from Andriod Users. So I gathered my roommates and had them text me to figure why I was not getting texts. The iPhone users could not text me but i could text them. The android users had no issue. I looked at their phones and it was sending the message to me as an iMessage which i wont be able to recieve. I googled the issue and found other users with the same thing. I traded in my phone today so i dont have access to the iPhone any longer.
    This is what ive tried:
Logged into iMessage on my Mac:
Went to Preferences --> Accounts --> Unclicked my phone number (and eventually just shut it off all together)
    After this: No Change
Logged into iTunes on my Mac:
Went to Itunes Store --> Account --> Itunes in the Cloud --> Unauthorized my iPhone from this section
    After this No Change
When to the Apple Support Community
    Went to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
    Clicked on “edit products”
Clicked on the “x” to the right of the product.
    Clicked “unregister”
    After this: No Change
    Went to iforgot.apple.com
I Changed my password, in hopes that it would disconnect my phone
    After this: No Change
    Grabbed my friends iPhone 5,
Disconnected his apple id and logged into mine
I toggled the iMessage slider to see if it would disconnect.
Logged off the iCloud Account on that device leaving iMessage off
    After this: No Change
Called At&T Customer Support (By Far the Most Frustrating)
The guy proceeded to tell me that I should contact all of my iPhone using friends and tell them that every time they text me they need to long press the text bubble and select "Send as Text Message". After 45 mins, I just gave up. The conversation ended with the rep telling me that i should just swich back to iPhone. I talked to his manager and got a months statement credit for that one, so it wasnt a complete loss.
I own 3 macbook pros, a mac mini, a mac pro, 2 ipads, and a ipad mini. Im very frustrated and if I cannot get this resolved, I will seriously reconsider any apple purchase i make in the future.
    Please Help!

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755 noted:
If you plan on transferring your SIM card or phone number from an iPhone to a device that does not support iMessage, turn off iMessage in Settings > Messages first. If you do not, other iOS devices may continue to try to send a message using iMessage first, instead only using SMS or MMS.
If you have not turned off iMessage for your phone number before you use it on a non-iOS device, it will be detected by other iOS device as still on iMessage.  What you can do is put back your number/SIM on an iPhone then activate then deactivate iMessage once successfully activated to de-register that phone number from iMessage server.  Hope it helps.

  • Group Messages Not Working between Android and iPhone Users on iOS7

    Hi there,
I am a former iPhone user.  I recently converted both my line and my wife's line from the IPhone 5 to a Motorola X Android phone.  We kept our same phone numbers, but we completely switched from Verizon to AT&T.  I have noticed that text messaging works perfectly on an individual basis when I correspond with individuals who have the iPhone, but Group Messaging is not working correctly.  I am able to send messages to a group and they receive them just fine, but when they respond back to me, I do not receive their responses (as it appears they are going through as iMessages).  My wife is having the same issue on her phone.  After doing some detective work, I have found that hundreds of other users are having the same issues on their smartphones when they make the switch from an Apple product to an Android phone.  There are a variety of "bug fixes" listed on the web, but I have completed all of them and I am still having the same issue.  Here is what I have done so far...
*Factory reset both of our phones and removed the SIM cards (since we are with a new phone carrier)
*Changed both of our apple ID passwords
*Removed both of our phone numbers from Apple's database all together
*Unregistered both of our iPhone products with Apple
*Had all of my friends/family switch SMS to "On" in their Settings tab
So now what?  I read one post on an Apple forum that said that they are aware of the issue and we can expect a fix in a future iOS update...but when is that going to occur, if at all?  It is problems like these that led me to leave Apple all together, and here I am after having left the company, and I am still left high and dry searching for solutions to my problems.  Who can help, and how can I remedy the situation?
Anything you can provide to help out would be great.
    Thanks.

There are reports of iOS7 altering the settings on iMessage's connection to the iPhone. Verify that each of the iPhone and the Mac is receiving on the "channel" (phone number or email address) on which the other is initiating iMessages.

  • My iphone only recieves IMessages from other IPhone users, even if i'm not using imessage at the time.

So for whatever reason, whenever i text other iphone users, and one of us uses IMessage, my phone will only recieve their texts when i'm connected to wifi, even if we both stop using it. For example, i'll text a friend while temporarily using wifi or 4G, and then for the rest of the day, or maybe even longer (it may be permanent, i'm not entirely sure), i'll be completely unable to recieve any texts from them unless i connect to wifi. Sometimes, connecting to 4G again doesn't even allow me to recieve the texts. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a settings problem, so i'm posting this here. I know it's not a service problem, because i can have normal conversations with my friends using Android, no interruptions or weird breaks in service. I can't afford to turn IMessage off, as i find it extemely useful, money saving, and I often find myself in wifi areas, but during those times i'm not it's extremely annoying because i'm forced to wait a long time just to recieve a short text.

  • Great iPhone 3G Experience - Andrew at Pacific Place in Seattle

I know that Apple and AT&T have been taking a lot of hits about the 3G launch, but we went through it today and I gotta say - it was flawless.
My husband and I arrived at Pacific Place at 5:45 this morning. We were about sixth in line when we got there, and the line started right next to the door of the AT&T store. By about 7:00 am, the line went into the garage, along the wall and almost, but not quite, out to the street. By 8:45 am, the line was halfway down the block.
At 8:55 am, the AT&T employees came out and did a bunch of cheering, which gave me the chance to see whether my favorite AT&T employee was working. My favorite's name is Andrew. He's smart, friendly, and no-nonsense. He doesn't sell you things you don't need, and he lets you know if he really thinks you are making a bad choice. When he's busy, he doesn't chit chat, he just gets stuff done. If it's not too busy, he'll take the time to go over cool things you can do with your phone that you hadn't thought of or he'll discuss the pros and cons of different accessories you're thinking about buying. I love him. When he recommends that I buy something, I don't really doubt whether or not I need it - he's always been right and I have never once felt "up-sold" by him.
Anyway, they opened the store at 9:02 am and as people were entering they were directed to go to specific AT&T reps. When we walked in, I asked if I could choose my own and then chose Andrew. True to form, Andrew had us out of there in five minutes flat - WITH a working iPhone 3G!! He didn't waste a single minute - as soon as we walked up and told him what we wanted (new iPhone 3g for me, transfer my old one to my husband), he had asked a runner for the phone and a sim card, and had our account pulled up in a hurry. Quick questions about the texting plan, answered our questions about transitioning, then he slapped down two covers on the counter, "Pink or black?" I chose black, it was in the bag, and we were out the door.
When we got home, we were able to get right on iTunes, synced everything up, and we were both ready to go.
I can't imagine a better transition from the old phone to the new one, and my husband is really excited to be an iPhone owner now. There were no problems at all.
I know that typically it makes more sense to post when there's a problem or a concern (happy people are too busy off being happy to bother posting), but I wanted to post this because it was such an easy and pleasant experience. Yay iPhone!

  • An ex-iPhone User?

While I was extremely satisfied with my iPhone buying experience, I was very upset with the time I was "on hold" from being able to access the features since it took over 12 hours to be activated. The FAQs on the iPhone page said that features could be accessed during the activation process. Not true. Nothing was accessed until the activation was completed. Furthermore, when I WAS finally able to use the phone, I discovered that service was mostly not available at my home (switched from 1-2 bars to "No Service" erratically), even though I am well within the stated ATT service area. I am often in an emergency response situation. Having to run out of the house and in the street to access service is not an option. As a result, I am returning the iPhone and returning to Verizon where service has been consistent and reliable. Too bad Apple's negotiations with Verizon didn't work out - Apple would have had at least one more iPhone customer.

Perhaps you should try another unit before you give up. Reception is definitely not an issue for me and registration was simple as advertised.
Apple trusts it's vendors to provide quality components, and though thorough in its vendor selection process, statistically some weak components can make it through Mfg and test.
As far as customer support: from my understanding that was to be outsourced. This is a US economic competitiveness problem and indirectly an Apple problem as it is for my bank, credit card company and others.
Did you try to use Itunes on a PC. That's another issue.
I understand your frustration but you may wish to try again and register it in the store or at a friends place with an Apple PC.
Microsoft doesn't yet own the rights to "PC", does it?

  • IOS6 breaks iPhone User Guide

After upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS6, the Safari bookmark for the iPhone User Guide produces a "404 Not Found. The requested URL /apps/mobile/2.0/ was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (PU_IAS) Server at help.apple.com Port 80" page.
Note that the URL (http://help.apple.com/iphone/6/) works when entered into the Safari browser on a Mac.

Since the first thing a users might do after installing a new iOS is look at the User Guide on their phone, this makes for a bad first impression. Is this a problem with the phone or with the web server? What is the fix?

At this writing (9/25-8am), this link - http://help.apple.com/iphone/6/ - is still a dead link. I have been able to get an iPhone 5 / iOS 6 User Manual, but cannot find a manual for the 3gs with iOS 6. Apple seems to have removed all the manuals (except iPhone 5 manuals) from their servers. The only available manuals that I can locate are in PDF format, which are useless for practical iPhone usage - you need to have "real-time" access to your manual. Apple should really put back in place the "User Guide" just as it was before the iOS 6 upgrade. Removing the User Guide from the servers is comparable to trashing a paper manual that comes standard with any item...

  • I can't receive text messages from iphone users

For some reason I am unable to receive text messages form iphone users with my new LG G3 phone?

        Hi Kessler,
Congrats on your new device! Text messages are an important feature, so lets get this fixed. Please make sure that your previous iPhone device is no longer registered http://bit.ly/1eec6Qc to receive iMessages. Once completed, please remove/add the sim card to your new device http://vz.to/1t3TnMR .
