Iphone 5 , Safari Locked up , No Safari Settings Access either since 7.0.2 update ?
Since Updating to IOS 7.0.2
My safari Does not Work on my iphone 5
When using icon Safari opens, Shows blank screen shows search window on top and the new page icon in lower right corner , BUT otherwise is a dead page .
It is all locked up.
When I go into settings to try to clear the Cache & History , The Safari Icon Locks up as well in the settings screen !!!
How can I resolve this problem.... Although I have downloaded Google Chrome ALL MY APPS THAT USE SAFARI ARE INEFFECTIVE !!!!
Please Help
Try the following: Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
This deletes all of your preference settings, returning them to the defaults. It will not erase any of your data or apps.
Hope this helps.

App Store/Messages/Safari/iTunes "Quit Unexpectedly" since 10.8.2 update
My App Store, and other applications like Messages, Safari, iTunes, on my iMac won't launch, since I've updated to 10.8.2. I've restarted, etc., several times, but am not savvy enough to figure out anything beyond that. I've searched aound the community a bit but am not finding anything else that helps with an answer.
Thoughts? This is the error message I keep getting:

Safari 2.04 crashing since 10.4.10 update
Since installing 10.4.10 Safari crashes as it completes rendering a web page. Has happened with NY Times.com and Macworld.com. Trashing preferences has not helped. Firefox working normally.
Has anyone else noticed this?"Has anyone else noticed this?"
No. Safari working fine as always here. You might try emptying your browser cache. Option-Apple-E. Firefox and Safari don't share a common web engine so the fact that Firefox works doesn't really mean anything. You could also move Safari's preference file to your desktop and relaunch Safari. The preference file is located in ~/Library/Preferences where ~ means your home directory. Look for the file com.apple.Safari.plist. If your problem is gone then trash the old preference file.
Did you do ANY preparation for the update? Did you run Disk Utility to make sure your hard drive was ok first (verify disk and verify permissions)? Did you quit all running applications before applying the update? Did you continue to use your computer while the update was being applied?
Dual 2.5GHz G5 Power Macintosh Mac OS X (10.4.9) -
Macbook, Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Safari 5.1.1
Since the last software update, Safari will not save bookmarks history.
Prefs. are set correctly, Cache has been dumped, reset done, appropriate .plist trashed, and finally an uninstall and clean install done
with 5.1.1 download from the Apple support site.
The problem still exists, making me very suspicious that this is a bug.
Any solutions? Let's hear 'em.M. Davis:
Thank you for your kind and prompt solution. It is a winner.
Problem solved, again many thanks and a very fine evening/day wherever you

Why my iphone 4 doesn't have SAFARI SETTINGS? Please solve
My iphone4 doesn't have SAFARI Settings . I went to >Settings > SCROLLED DOWN , I couldn't find SAFARI SETTINGS. WHY? THANKS!
When I first got my iPhone there was the FaceTime app. After a few days it was no longer there. It doesn't show up in Settings either but when I go to my contacts it shows up and I can still use FaceTime. Does this work with your iPhone too?

IPhone 3G, Safari cannot open OWA (Outlook Web Access) to Exchange 2007
Hello, picked up iPhone 3G in hopes of replacing my Windows Mobile 6 phone (AT&T 8525), and first i did was,
a) Installed the my .pfx certificate, appears successful as the certificate showed up under Settings | General | Profile, as identity certificate (although shows up as "Unsigned", not sure why). Verified the details of the certificate and all looks correctly imported, especially the expiration date is correct.
b) Setup Safari to NOT block popup, cleared cache, history and cookies
c) Opened up Safari, and pointed to the following URL,
http://my.company.com/OWA
And i get the "The page cannot be displayed", with Error Code: 401 Unauthorized.
This same .pfx certificate is used successfully in my Windows machine, and using the same OWA URL, using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari for Windows.
And my Windows Mobile 6 (AT&T 8525 phone) also using the same .pfx certificate has no problem opening up the login page to the OWA, using the same URL.
Can someone help or verify whether accessing OWA through iPhone 3G Safari using the .pfx certificate is NOT supported at this time?
Thanks much! When you created the PCKS#12 did you create with the full chain? My first suspicion is "unsigned" - this indicates that the phone can't validate what signed this certificate. You may have to import the signing root seperately as I don't know if the iPhone cert store handles chained certs or not.
Secondly, Safari browser is echoing back the 401 message indicating that the server did not accept your credentials. Many SSL implementations require the client to send the full chain (to the root that signed everything) - it makes no sense when the server should have the root and be able to validate this, but I have run into this before.
Since this has worked on your WinMO device I would try the following:
From a desktop PC access your OMA/OWA server - hopefully you have the PFX installed on a desktop
Click on the SSL lock icon and view the certificate hierarchy
Export the root and any intermediate into .CER file
Import the root and any intermediate CER files into the iPhone
The first thing that you hopefully will see is that the Profile cert will no longer say unsigned. If it does not, try re-importing it (pfx) AFTER you install the root(s).
I know that some of this seems un-necessary, but I have done a lot of PKI stuff over the years, but there seems to be very different implementations in key management.
Hope this helps! -
Safari settings still not lasting
Good Evening,
I recently posted a question which I felt was answered at the time correctly in reference to maintaining my settings in Safari. I'll attach the URL as well as repost the question asked:
How do I lock the favorites bar and stop the "welcome screen"?
I've been a Mac user for quite some time and recently upgraded to OX X 10.10, and Safari 8.0. My issue is I like my favorites bar to be available, however each time I quit Safari I have to hit Shift+Command+b to force it to appear again. Is there a way I can lock this setting so I don't have to set up my browser each time I sit down to the computer? Also, I would like to know what it takes to get rid of the "Welcome to Safari" banner from starting up each time I restart the program. I went to preferences>general and tried to change the settings in "New tab opens with" and "New windows open with", however these settings reset each time I restart Safari as well. Thanks for any assistance
Bottom line is that I unchecked the general "close windows when quitting an app" and this worked it seemed, however the issue is back. If anyone knows how to lock the favorites bar permanently aside from switching to firefox, opera, or chrome I would appreciate the help. So, I believe I have found a fix that is somewhat long and technical. The thread I found it in was here:
safari unstable
for some reason on this new update safari has become unstable for some users I'm guessing. The following steps seemed to have helped me (NOTE: I've edited the procedure to reflect what I've seen on my Mac...Linc Davis deserves all credit for the assist!)
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Last warning: DO NOTHING unless you have a backup and you know you can restore from it.
Read this whole message before doing anything. (I copied and pasted it to a word doc and printed it out)
Quit (command+q) Safari if it’s running.
Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. If that box is checked, uncheck it. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
***I didn't see the above first step, as my Mac is already upgraded to Yosemite.***
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
***** ON YOSEMITE - in finder press shift+command+g in order to find the "Go to Folder" and search for ~/Library option discussed below"******
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder. (For me my browser was still not saving settings at this point)
Step 2
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
(I REMOVED A FEW MORE FILES THAN THE ORIGINAL PROCEDURE - the different ones are underlined)
Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plst - corrupt (not sure if this matters, however I see corrupt to be a bad thing)
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies - corrupt
Cookies/Cookies.plist
Cookies/Cookies.plist_temp_9140_0.dat (figured temp files should go too)
Cookies/Cookies.plist_temp_41767_0.dat
Cookies/Cookies.plist_temp_44798_0.dat
Cookies/Cookies.plist_temp_58558_0.dat
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost. (this is where I found success...my custom settings were remaining even after I quit Safari!)
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 2, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place. If you followed these instructions, you have a working backup and you know how to restore from it. If you didn’t follow the instructions, I can’t help.
I will leave this thread up, in case someone comes up with a more direct reason why this works, however at this time it seems as though things are working how I want them again. -
IPhone 5 Safari Faking "Private Browsing" Mode
I recently posted in another forum about how suspicious click-through ads were appearing on my iPhone 5 within certain media web sites. Since I have never run Safari without “private browsing” mode being on; have always had “limit ad tracking” turned on; third-party cookies blocked; and have geolocation and location services (for Safari) turned off, that should have been impossible. While the discussion participants had come up with some interesting possibilities, I realized that I had neglected to check the “Website Data” screen in iPhone’s Setup. So I just checked the web site storage. Got an unpleasant surprise when I was greeted with a screen-full of URL’s beginning with www.stayinvisible.com and carbonite.com. Tapped on “show all sites” and 100 or more URL’s scrolled by, among them many Apple web sites. Even found a competitor’s web site URL that should not have been there, since I’ve never visited their web site, nor any legitimate web site that would have hosted anything that would have set a cookie on this device.
Apple’s privacy policy with the current version of Safari for iPhone 5 (within IOS 7.1.2 11D257) is very clear:
"Private Browsing
When Private Browsing is enabled, Safari doesn’t remember the pages you visit, AutoFill information, and your open tabs aren’t stored in iCloud. Safari will also ask sites and their third party content providers (including advertisers) not to track you. Websites can’t modify information stored on your device, so services normally available at such sites may work differently until you turn off Private Browsing."
Apple stated that, “Websites can’t modify information stored on your device,…” yet I have in front of me proof that web sites CAN and DO modify information on my device while Safari’s “private browsing is on. This is very deceptive and a nasty way to treat customers who bought one of the most expensive PDA/smart phones on the market and now find that they have no web browsing security (Safari ignoring secure web site security certificate revocations, can’t detect bogus or malicious secure web sites), and apparently zero web browsing privacy, after Apple promised exactly the opposite.
Has anyone else finding that their web browsing security has been compromised with a recent vintage iPhone?I’ve wiped the web cache several times since then. Several times I found more cookies in the web cache, at least once found over a hundred items, mostly for web sites I didn’t visit even once, but were all in my Safari bookmarks. Apparently, in addition to everything else going on, Apple appears to be rooting through my bookmarks without my permission.
Using Steve Gibson’s Cookie Forensics web page (https://www.grc.com/cookies/forensics.htm) I confirmed that web sites are able to save and retrieve cookie data from my iPhone with Private Browsing enabled. That violates Apple’s stated privacy policy.
The cookies that keep reappearing in the web cache, which also violates Apple’s stated privacy policy, apparently are leftovers from Safari crashes. I see five crashes in the past month, and crash logs for Safari going back to last year. Per my earlier post, after tapping the "delete" button, the cookies immediately disappeared, but then all came back at least once within a few seconds. That means IOS was hiding, and not deleting, the web cache when the "delete" button was tapped. The reappearing cookies are also only being hidden from the user, and become visible when a device crash prevents IOS from keeping the cookies hidden, since they've been in the web cache all the time.
I also see that other apps, like Podcasts, Stocks, and Weather are also writing or accessing items in the web cache, while “Private Browsing” mode has supposedly been “on.” The only thing “private” about “Private Browsing” mode is Apple deliberately hiding this activity from users.
Safari on IOS will allow web sites to track iPhone users regardless of an iPhone user’s device settings. Anyone who merely minimizes Safari between sessions, rather than killing the active Safari task, will find their device will act exactly the same whether “Private Browsing” is on or off. Safari might not prompt for, for example, a user name for a login, but if the web site stored a cookie with login info, it might already have you logged in (if a login were required for a particular page). And if a cookie were saved to the web cache after a device crash, Safari will again violate Apple's privacy policy and allow web sites to read and modify the cookies that were stored in the cache while "Private Browsing" mode were on. I confirmed that more than once.
Apple’s privacy policy for is a lie. Mobile Safari has no “Private Browsing Mode.” -
IPhone 3g safari plugins?
In my phone's safari settings there is an option to turn plugins on/off. What plugins does this refer to?
Bob*Guy wrote:
True they do bog down your CPU, but then again you have a choice of what sites you go to. Also, Adobe may be able to counter that by writing a more efficient Flash optimized for the iPhone. One can only hope.
Some people can't differentiate between Flash based sites and non-flash.
Adobe would have to write an optimized version of Flash that limits the resources that it can use. No one wants to have all the resources hogged by 1 plug-in (or script engine... Apple MAKE JavaScript run faster!) -
Cannot play podcast from .mac website on iPhone's Safari
Published a podcast, using iWeb on our .mac website. Works great on my laptop, however, on the iPhone using Safari, it just shows a QuickTime icon. If you click on the icon it takes you to the quicktime site to download the latest version of quicktime. There isn't a "play" button visible to press instead.
If I subscribe to the podcast, download it into iTunes and then sync my iPhone, it works great. Is it possible to listen to podcasts right through Safari on the iPhone? It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html. -
How to configure and tweak Safari settings on iPad Mini?
Using my wife's iPad mini, it seems there are no setttings or ability to tweak or change the look and feel and especially the font size for the browser. I am not talking about the website text that shows up on any site visited but the text at the top of the browser, the names of bookmarked sites and so forth, the icons as well.
Also, there is no HOME icon, no TABS icon to open a new tab, there is no History icon or option, same as View, Edit or File or even a Help link or icon/option. Safari settings on a laptop include a bookmark bar, menu bar and status bar you can include or disable, but on the iPad mini there are no such options. I just looked at the email program or app on the iPad and the time is showing at the very top center and it is so tiny even with reading glasses it still looks small.
It's a shame, that I might have to download something to get this looking the way I need it.
Thanks for any helpful suggestions!
JeffThis is a rather unorthodox suggestion, but if the UI itself is physically too small and your iPad mini is a recent purchase, you might consider exchanging it for an iPad Air (or iPad 2). The UI will be bigger, which may be enough to make the browsing experience more usable.
I think you'll find that buttons will be smaller across most (if not nearly all) apps on iPad mini compared to iPad Air (or previous full-size iPads), so you may run into similar issues in other apps.
Regarding a Home button in Safari, in addition to Meg's suggestions:
1. You may enable the Favorites toolbar in Settings > Safari by changing the Show Favorites Bar setting to ON. The list of sites is managed through a special folder in Bookmarks in Safari.
2. There is also a list of Favorites when opening a new tab (the grid of icons that appears in a new tab). This is also managed by a special folder in Bookmarks in Safari, but a separate folder from the toolbar folder.
Good luck!
