I don't want to start a flame war or anything, but I'd think very carefully before using Mono. Don't get me wrong, it's a good system and improving all the time, but it's relatively immature and you might be letting yourself into a world of pain. Case in point: less than 30 minutes ago I used the Mono Develop IDE to check out a student C# console project.... For whatever reason, MD went horribly wrong; it pinwheeled continuously and refused to shut down in response to Force Quit. Even trying to kill it off in Activity Monitor failed. In the end I had to reboot OS X. Unfortunately this was not the first time I've had this experience with Mono Develop.
If your project is just a bit of fun, then by all means give it a try, but if you're a serious developer then be aware of the risks you're running with such new technology.

I am supporting and application developed using JDK1.2.2, it uses JDBC drivers from oracle(classes12.zip) to connect to an Oracle 8i database. This application is not working with JRE1.3. Can someone suggest any possible methods to make it work with JRE1.3?

well, Now the problem is partly solved. I was having problems in displaying a frame(derived from JInternalFrame), later I discovered that for JRE1.3, I have to explicitly set the setVisible option to true.
I have a few more frames to correct. I hope after that it wil be alright..

IE11 compatibility of application developed using webdynpro java in NWDS7.01.12

Hi,
I have a webdynpro java application developed using NWDS 7.01.12 with jdk1.4. This portal application is not working when accessed using IE11 browser. The action on buttons and selection from a drop down list in this application is not responding in IE11. Its working well with mozila fire fox vrs 31. On click of action the following error is encountered:
SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support property or method 'attachEvent'
File: sapUrMapi_ie6.js, Line: 683, Column: 7
which points to the below piece of code:

The above mentioned errors are being pointed to sapUrMapi_ie6.js file.
Is there any solution to over come these issues other than setting "user agent string" value in the browser?
Can this be resolved with any changes in the application or is there any SAP provided solution?
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Similar issues are also pointed to popup_ie6.js files at "window.attachEvent("onload",sapPopup_init)" and
"window.document.attachEvent("onmousemove",resetMouseOver)".

You don't need anything but iTunes to view the course.
You'll need a recent model Mac running ML 10.8.2 and Xcode 4.5 to develop and submit apps.

Hardware requirements for ipad/iphone application development.

I'd like to know what is the "comfortable" hardware requirement to develop fairly big ipad/iphone applications in a professional environment.
Comfortable = No hardware upgrades of any kind for at least one year of heavy programming.
I'd like to have solid numbers:
CPU
Memory (in GB)
Hard drive size.

raw power? More than enough to run Xcode.
You asked for minimum. Any new Mac today is enough. Not sure I'd bother with an Air and small screens, tho they will do in a pinch.
Have you walked into an Apple Store and tried using any of the computers on display? What types of apps will you be expected to work on? AirPlay and iCloud part of the apps you'll build? Universal apps or just iPhone or iPad? What do you do when you need several windows on the deskop?
What newcomers seem to overlook are the ancillary demands from the associated text, graphics, movie and audio editors that all seem to be simultaneously required.
I run three monitors and 1/2 dozen test mules. I keep full backups at all times. Do the math. A professional environment doesn't sound like it would require any minimums. You haven't laid out any details so it's difficult to give more than casual advice I think. You're asking questions, tho, so your on the right track.

Application Development using Jdeveloper using Oracle Lite

I need to develop an application that works with the oracle database lite technology.
Ritght now I am working on some 10 tables .The Scenario is like the application developed is deployed on the middle tier and the user downloads it and goes offline. And he uses the application offline with the same tables present (that are used in developing the application) in another database present on the user machine . I have gone through the ADF BC tutorials but I couldn’t figure out whether the business components (view objects, entity objects) that are created by using tables (connecting to a particular schema in the database) can work if the schema changes(coz I tried doing that and faced errors that connection to database couldn’t be established ). I think this might be because the schema has changed.
Does this Business components created work if the database schema changes?
Is it possible to develop an application using java swing that works on the oracle database lite? I need a standalone Windows 32 application to be developed.

Let's assume you have two database schema USER1 and USER2
And let's assume that USER2 grants the appropriate privileges so that USER1 can see his tables.
If you connect as USER1 in JDeveloper and create an entity object based on a table USER2.SOMETABLE, then the SomeTable entity object will remember the USER2 schema name as part of the table name.
If instead if USER1 creates an entity object against a table in his own USER1 schema, then the entity object will only record the "TABLENAME" in the entity metadata, without a schema qualifier. In this case, if you connect to a different schema at runtime which still has the expected TABLENAME table in it, then it will work fine.
Generally you would want to use an entity based on a synonym instead of an entity based directly on a SCHEMANAME.TABLENAME so that it wouldn't matter if the schema changed.
Yes, you can build Swing, JSF, or JSP applications against Oracle Lite using ADF BC.

Large (1gb+) iphone application development

I'm looking for experience in developing iphone applications with large data sets. I have a sqlite database that is 1gb+ and would like to include it with my application. Unfortunately, I cannot even get Xcode to run it on the simulator unless I reduce the database size substantially.
I'm wondering if there is a timeout setting somewhere that is getting triggered and killing the upload process?
When I try to run the large application on my device, I get the following error message:
"Operation could not be completed. (com.apple.dtdevicekit error 49164.)
I've thought of other alternatives, such as downloading the database inside the application, but am unclear if this is a desired workaround.
Anyone have any experience with developing large applications?

I've never built an app that was 1% of that size, but hope my opinion might be helpful to you anyway.
As you may know, the hard limit for an iPhone app bundle is 2 Gb. But just from basic engineering experience I'd say 1Gb+ is asking for trouble. In my opinion, the day when you succeed in getting that bundle loaded and tested is when your real problems will begin.
Is there any way to modularize that database? For example, could you put a small, starter database in the bundle and then let the user download additional modules from your website? I think such a design would not only be technically superior, it would also be better commercially.
I've read that most users don't look at the size of an app before downloading. I've never met that kind of user. When my kids download music, they count every Mb, and know exactly how much room they have left. If I saw Gb in an app store description I'd have to be very very motivated to read the rest of the page.
On the other hand, if the app was under 10 Mb, and the description explained that the app could be expanded one package at a time... Well, I'm sure you get the point. Of course making an extensible database out of SQLlite is going to be a nice project.. It's not called Lite for nothing. But that would be my goal.

Oracle 9i lite application development using java

hi all,
I want to develop a applcation which interacts with the 9i lite database in java.Is there any emulator which will help me in developing this on a windows 2000 machine or winnt machine?
i tried developing it in eVB but the emulator which come along with it does not support the 'oladoce' object..
please if anybody has done something on this please help .. this is very urgent..

Oracle 9i Lite is a multi-platform product and you need to specific the target OS for the database and the version of java.
If you are planning to run your application in Win2000 you will have no problem using Oracle 9i Lite with the supplied
jdbc drivers and any java development environment for J2SE. What you get is a laptop platform that works while not
connected to the Internet
If you are trying to using Oracle 9i Lite on the Palm with J2ME development on windows, it works fine with the Palm Emulator
but I am not sure that the jdbc drivers are available for J2ME yet and I have not used them as I have for J2SE on windows
I am also very interested in developing java applications for the palm using Oracle 9i Lite and I would appreciate feedback
on the jdbc and other required sql extensions for the sun java cldc
If you are talking about the PocketPC or other WinCE, I cannot help you but I have used Personal Java on WinCE but not yet
attempted Oracle 9i Lite on those platforms
