IPhone can't connect to wifi at home

periodically my wife's and my iphone can't connect to wifi at our house.  We do have many devices connected - about 7-9 - but it seems like the iphone is at the bottom of the pecking order. No other devices have this problem.   Sometimes when I unplug and replug the router it will connect to the phones.  Do I have a bad router?

From personal experience, I have learned that all Apple devices are good for detecting netowrking/wifi issues. My home wifi works great most of the time. When I start having problems with my iPhones, it will progress to the iPads, then the MacBooks, then eventually to the ThinkPads. If I resstart my router when I start having problems with my iPhones, everything else is always happy. I have even gotten tot hte point that I restart my router once a month (usually at 8:00pm on the 1st) and then I don't have any problems with any of my devices cconnecting, even the iPhones.

I can't connect to wifi at home on business hub ? So cannot update my iPhone 5  Help!

wifi is wifi, and business hub means very little.. this is area for time capsule discussion.. but the standard measures apply.
    1. Set wireless name (SSID) to a name that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Eg your Business Hub call wireless BH. There is no need for names longer than that.
    2. Set wireless channel for 2.4ghz to 11 or 6 or 1. Please test in that order. In Eurozone you can add 13 or use it instead of 11. They are the only 3 non-overlapping channels.
    3. Use no security to test.. of course this is unsafe long term.. so this is to test for a few minutes only.
The only security that should be used with N wireless is WPA2 TKIP-AES .. it can be named several different things ie in Apple routers it is WPA2 personal. Use a passkey of 10-20 characters.. more if you are paranoid, mix of upper and lower case + numerics.. so pure alphanumeric.
    4. If it fails set the mode to G wireless. It is more consistent standard.
If it still fails buy an Apple router and use that as WAP.

Contact Rhapsody to see if they have or plan to release an update for the app. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

  • IPhone can not connect to wifi

Since I downloaded IOS 7 to my iphone 4S, my battery life is greatly diminished and I can not connect to wifi. I reset my systems, but still the wifi button is grayed out. Suggestions ?

  • Iphone can't connect to wifi

Hi, i'm using an iPhone4 (4.3.1) and it was everything fine till yesterday.
This morning I woke up and i saw that the iPhone was working only in 3G so I tried to connect to the wifi network (I've got an airport extreme) manually but it said "unable to connect to wifi network XXX" altough I can see the networks in the wifi menu pannel.
So I turn off the iPhone in order to restart it, or smth else, but it was all the same... Then I have removed the wpa/wpa2 password from the network but the problem already exist.
I tried to create a new wifi network from my macbook pro, but the iPhone can't connect to it... I hope that it's not an hardware problem, and it'll be strange since i can see the networks around me but i can't connect to them: i think that if it would be an hardware problem, i couldn't see them.
Could you help me, please?!? I don't know what could I do now... The last chance is to contact the applecare..............
    Thank you
    Gian

    Two things.
    1. unplug power to router. Unplug power to modem. Let sit for 10 seconds. Plug in power to modem. Wait for modem to finish it's boot process and wait for all the lights to stop flashing. Plug in power to router and wait for it to connect. Shutdown iPhone and turn back on and try to reconnect to the internet.
    2. On the iPhone go to "Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings" and then restart the phone and then try connecting to the Wi-Fi hotspot again.

  • Can't connect to wifi at home on MacBook Pro or iPhone 4S

I recently moved and got set up with a new (cable) internet provider. Since that time, I have been unable to connect to wireless on my MacBook Pro or my iPhone 4S. I can connect via ethernet. I can connect via other people's wireless (coffee shops, library, etc.). Sometimes, I get a "connection timeout error occurred" message. Other times, it looks like wifi is connected, but when I try to visit a URL on a browser, the blue bar moves about a centimeter across the address bar and stops. Email doesn't work, etc. The technician who set up my internet tried for nearly three hours to figure out why it wasn't working and concluded it must be a problem with my computer. It seems odd that I would only have problems at home, but I'm not an expert. Hoping someone here is, and can help. I work from home so this is rather frustrating (especially since connecting via ethernet means sitting in the living room instead of my office and tempting the dog to trip on the cord). Thanks for reading!

What is the make & model of the new wireless router that you ISP has provided you? Are you able to administer it if needed?
For the MacBook Pro, try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • My iphone 4, can't connect to wifi at home... new version of IOS was updated version 6.1.3

i was trying to connect my wifi connections at home but unfortunately i cant connect. i've tried to reboot my router, my phone itself but same thing. i've search on internet how to resolve this by following those instructions but nothing happens. please help!!!
"Try going to settings, wifi, click on the arrow to the right of your wifi network name, click forget this network, Turn off wifi,  go back out of settings, reset your phone by holding the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up. Then go back into wifi turn it on and resign back into your wifi with your password if it has one."

    This is nothing special:
turn off wifi in your phone, disconnect modem and router from power, wait 10 seconds, connect the modem and wait till it is fully started, then connect the router to power and wait a few seconds till it has started, then set wifi on in your phone.

  • IPhone can't connect to wifi - one solution

I have an original iPhone that has been having trouble finding and connecting to my home wifi network. Sometimes it saw the network, other times it didn't. Sometimes it required re-entering my network name & password, sometimes it didn't. I tried all of the usual resets & restores (both of the phone and of the wifi network) with no improvement. My wife's original iPhone finds and connects to the network just fine, so it seems to be something within my phone in particular.
After surfing the discussion groups and finding nothing that solved this issue, I stumbled on this seemingly easy fix. It works great for me - though as usual with stuff like this - your mileage may vary. It does no harm, so if your phone has issues it's worth a try...
This workaround presumes that you can connect to your network "sometimes". When you do manage a connection - here's what you're going to want to do:
Go into your Settings>Wifi and click on the blue arrow next to your network name. The page with the IP address should be visible, and the DCHP tab highlighted. If you've managed to connect to your network, the lines under this tab should be full of information - IP Address, Subnet Mask, etc...
Copy all of this info down.
Go to the Static tab and copy all of the info into the appropriate fields. Leave the Static tab highlighted and exit back to your homescreen.
    That's it.
For me, immediately prior to discovering this workaround I rarely could get it to find my network, let alone connect, and when it did connect it'd drop frequently. Now my phone now finds my home network within 5 seconds of unlocking the phone and stays connected with a strong signal.
It didn't "fix" whatever caused the initial problem but as a workaround it's a solid solution - at least for my issue.
If you have poor/intermittent home wifi reception with your iPhone, give this a shot.

This is great! It's working for me @ home now...which was NEVER connecting before, unless I shook my phone, went back & forth into my settings to get our WiFi network & selected it.
Did you have issues connecting outside of your home? I used to have the "E" when not on my WiFi, but now cannot access e-mail or internet anywhere outside of my house, unless there is an AT&T WiFi hotspot somewhere...which NEVER happens. I'm VERY frustrated, because I got lost last week & couldn't even access the "Maps" section because it couldn't locate me! Couldn't access the internet to search the address I was looking for, because I was in the car & didn't have an AT&T hotspot. My GPS in the car wasn't working properly...very frustrating...can you offer any solutions?
    Thanks! Tamara

  • Can't connect to WiFi at home (DLink Access Point)

Only had my iPhone for a few days now. I am trying to connect to my wifi network at home but it is just not working. I have a DLink wireless access point and have no problems connecting to it with my laptop. iPhone sees the network allows me to enter site password, but then just switches back to Edge. It doesn't seem that DHCP is setting the correct network settings on the iPhone. Any advice for troubleshooting? I see no errors, nothing to go on.

    wahiggins3,
First, make sure you have the latest firmware installed for your D-Link. Many routers, and D-Link is not alone in this, don't always provide information via DHCP using the accepted standards for DHCP. Any updates that mention digital devices or gaming consoles usually address that issue.
Second, what security are you using on the router? Are you using MAC or hardware address filtering?
Personally when entering my password for the wireless network at my in-laws I had to slow down and remember that the letter that will be typed will pop up if you hold your finger on the screen. If it is incorrect you can slide your finger to the correct one, and then lift it off the screen.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

Also I use my LTE to tether (paid) to my LapTop as well, The issue I am having, I cannot get the USB to work as a network connection. However using the WiFi method works fine but I rather use the sync cable at times such as when I am charging the phone and/or wishing to not  trainsmit my ssid for others to see even though I do use a password.

  • IPods can't connect to WiFi at home - password correct

Hi, for some reason - no idea why -  the WiFi went out at my place, couldn't connect laptops or iPods. I called out the service engineer. He gave me a new modem, and during the process, we changed the network name and password. My laptops now both connect to the new network no problem, however my iPods don't.
The iPods detect the new network name and the password entered is definitely correct - it works on my laptops, mobile phone etc - but I just get a "failed ot connect to network" message. If I type in a deliberately incorrect password on my iPod, I get a "wrong password" message, so it's defo not a password issue.
Have tried powering of the modem & router for an extended period of time - no change to the situation.
I have also tried hard resets on both iPods, resetting network preferences on the iPods - both times no dice.
It's one iPod 4th Gen, one iPod 3rd gen both using the latest version of iOS.
iPods both connect to networks at cafés, work etc with no problems whatsoever. Any idea how I can fix this? Cheers in advance.

  • I can't connect my wifi at home

I acnT connect to my iPhone at home. How can I fix this?

    Here are some options:
    1. Try resetting network settings from Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    2. Reboot your device
    3. Turn of cellular data Settings>Cellular>Off
It might as well be a problem with your Wireless router, so try resetting it as well. Also, remove your WPA authentication (password) and try connecting.
Let me know if any of the solutions helped.
    Cheers!

  • I can't connect to wifi at home.

Technically it's "connected", but when I try to load Safari, it won't load up Safari and gives me the notification saying it's not connected. It says it has 3-bar signal. If it helps, when I examined my network setting on my iPod, my network automatically loeaded the IP address and the Subnet Mask, but the Router, DNS, etc. were blank for some reason. I could've swore there were numbers that automatically load there too. Can anyone help me out? Is it a problem with the network? Or is it my old 2nd gen iPod touch that's the problem??
