Iphone data completely wiped off

I had set a passcode on my Iphone 5, to avoid my kid tampering with the iphone. My complete data got wiped off my iphone recently, probably due to my kid typing in the wrong passcode more than 10 times. When I contacted Apple technical support, I was told that the wipe data option is 'off' by default and Im dead sure that I havent turned it 'on' (as I never knew this option existed before this incident!). Is there anyway I can know when was this option was enabled, so that I can know who may have done this? Im sure my kid would not have turned it on by mistake, as you need to enter the passcode to get into this option.

Thanks for your response. On that particular day, when i checked my phone, I was directed to setup a new profile. and all the data, including contacts, photos and videos were erased. I assume that my kid may have typed in the wrong passcode more than ten times, which had triggered the erasing of data.
This is a personal phone and nobody else has access to the phone except me.
The other thing that intrigues me is that the 'Erase Data' option can be accessed only once we enter the Passcode Lock screen after keying in the right passcode. There is no other person who knew the passcode, hence there is no other way that somebody else would have turned the 'Erase Data' on. And assuming the 'Erase data' is 'off' by default, how did my data get erased?

  • Would the iPhone get completely wiped off when 1st backing up on new laptop

    Hi,
My laptop has died and I am about to authorise a new laptop (this will be my 2nd) to be able to backup my iPhone.
I've heard some horror stories going around that when I first backup an iPhone in a new machine everything gets completely wiped off.
Is this true? I have 150 applications and gigabites of music. As you can imagine I don't want to start it from scratch or lose everything.
    Any ideas?
By the way, the previous iPhone backups from the dead laptop are saved on the harddrive which has been saved when the laptop died.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. If you attempt to sync such content with a second computer, all itunes content will first be erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer.
Your photos & music you ripped on your own will have to be extracted from your phone using third party software, as Apple makes no provision for this since it's expected that you maintain a backup. Your photos were reduced in resolution when synced to your phone to display on the phone. There is no way to recover their full resolution. You need to recover these photos & music before you proceed. Photos in your camera roll can be imported to your new computer.
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/
Next, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, under preferences in itunes, which in Windows I believe is under the edit menu.
Next, go up to Store>Authorize this computer.
Next, make sure you have at least one contact & one event in whatever supported program you use for that purpose on your computer(Outlook, Windows Address Book). They can be fake, it doesn't matter.
Next, connect your phone. DO NOT SYNC at this point.
Right click the phone in the device pane & select "Reset Warnings".
Next, go up to "File", "Transfer purchases made on this ipod/iphone to this computer".
Your purchased music/apps will then be transferred to itunes. Music you ripped on your own will not. You'll have to restore that from your backup, which apparently doesn't exist, or use third party software already referenced.
Next, right click again & select BACKUP.
Next, restore your phone from the backup you just made.
This must be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content. Which is selected from the various tabs. You should get a prompt regarding your contacts & calendar asking to "merge" or "replace". Select "merge"
That's as good as it gets.
This is what's included in the backup you'll make & restore from:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
This is how to restore from that backup, as already referenced, when prompted to create another backup before you restore, decline as we will use the backup we made when we started:

My Iphone 4 has a cracked screen and has made it impossible for me to unlock my pin. I an giving the phone to a friend but want to know if there is a way I can ensure all my data is wiped off it before I do. Can anyone help? I have upgraded to a iPhone 5 so Im not sure if the old one would have automatically wiped the old phone. I have lots of emails and messages I wouldnt want peo

Have you synced this phone, with iTunes, while the passcode was enabled? If so, plug it in, iTunes running, & hit the Restore button on the Summary Pane. This will also erase the phone.
However, if you have not synced, while the passcode was enabled, you will not be able to do this without first enereting the passcode. If that's the case, try recovery mode:

  • IPhone data completely erased

Hey guys, so I recently was getting an error message on my iphone and i googled the error message and people solved it by restoring their iphone. so i restored my iphone and it was all synced up, as i looked over the tabs in the iphone section, for some reason my video werent synced so i checked them to be synced and clicked sync, but i then realized that they were already on there so i cancelled the sync really fast. then i had lost like half of my stuff on my iphone so i just hit sync to get the music and stuff all back on. after it finishes i discover all of my data is completely wiped, so contacts or anything, a fresh iphone. is there anyway i can salvage my iphone? none of my backups are working, they all set it back fresh restore. is there anyway that i can grab an old backup somwhere on my mac? anyway i can get my stuff back?

The iTunes content that was transferred to your iPhone should be available in your iTunes library on your computer so this data is not lost. The same for photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
Contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks should be synced with the supported applications on your computer. This data is not included with your iPhone's backup.
The only data that will be lost are your iPhone settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, and photos captured by your iPhone which should be imported to your computer as with any other digital camera.

  • My iphone 5 completely shut off and will not turn on nor is it being recognized by itunes.

    Hi,
I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 to check it out.  Being in beta, I was already aware of all the bugs that were going to be happening.  After much frustration, I decided to downgrade bake to iOS 7.1.1.  While I was doing this, my iPhone completely shut off, it will not turn back on even when I plug it into a wall charger or the computer, and iTunes is not recognizing it either.  Is there any other solutions to this problem? Please help! Thanks

first: why did you download the iOS Beta 8? If you are a developer, go to the Apple Developers website and check what they can do for your case.
second: setup an appointment to a Genius Bar for service.

The phones in recovery mode so if yu connect it to itunes it should ask to restore it back to the last back up you have done.
that should solve it for you...

  • Another Verizon (Iphone) Data Plan Rip off!

Once again Verizon is trying to rip off their customers by giving them no choice when it comes to data plans if you want an Iphone. Just like they tried to force data plans on Feature Phones last year, now if you want an Iphone you must spend $29.99 a month. Thats great if you spend all day on your phone, but some of us don't want unlimited data. We do want an Iphone though. That's the way to take care of your customers VERIZON!!!!

Dueceko131 don’t pay attention to those two clowns. Just because the $30 dollar plan works for them doesn’t mean it works for everyone. To make a statement that if you want a 150mb plan then you don’t need a smartphone just goes to show how little common sense they have. Must be they haven’t heard of WiFi. If the unlimited works for you great, but there are a lot of other people out there that will just be wasting money. Looks like verizon has a couple of fanboys here.
KUDOS to ktm250.... I am sick of the fanboys!! They are getting old and annoying !!!!!
I for one know I only need 150mb and want the iphone because of the great screen and its functions. I own a itouch and a ipad and manage them greatly with only wifi. I just always wished my itouch would be able to make a call so I don't have to carry both the itouch and a cell phone. Well here is my chance.. A iphone. But I an not able to pay extra for a $30 data package.

  • HT201065 Is it possible to completely remove ALL data when wiping??

Is ALL data completely wiped and irretrievable from my old mac once this process is done? I have heard of others illegally retrieving data from old discarded hard drives previous owners had 'wiped' clear.

When you erase a drive, you can do it fast/non-secure or slow/secure. Choose the "secure" method and specify 1, 3 or 7-pass option. For large disk drives this can take a VERY VERY LONG TIME. But if you want to be safe, what's a day or two.
The multiple-pass secure options writes different bit-patterns to the drive, before it finally erases it with all zeros, which leaves nothing for anyone to recover later on.
If you choose the unsecure method (the default) it only initializes the information that says how many files are on the drive and where to start writing when new files are created. The actual part of the disk that had your old data is not even touched, so with the right kind of software that information is able to be recovered to varying degrees of success.
The 3-pass secure erase method is what the DOD (Department of Defense) recommends for erasure of drives.
See this for a lot more information about securely erasing disks:

  • Music loaded onto iphone has completely stripped my iPhone and replaced it with my husbands setup

Music was loaded onto iPhone 4 (version 6 software upgrade) from Macbook pro to my iphone, when this happened, it copied everything from my husbands iPhone and completely wiped out all of my emails, iphotos, messages, contacts, apps....  my iphone now looks like a duplicate of my husbands.  Can this corrected.

You can manage your email accounts in
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars
However, you should still get all of your emails, contacts and calendars on your @icloud.com email account just as you do on your @me.com account.
But if not, you can add and remove accounts listed above.

How, EXACTLY, did you get it "unlocked"? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.

  • All data is wiped from my iphone after internet was serverely hacked, hence transfered to my iphone and everyone elses iphones in the house

Our internet was hacked really bad, whatever virus/ trojan it was, my two housemates & I didnt realise straight away, by then we had synced our iphones to itunes on our computers, it wasnt long before we noticed our iphones acting strange, they would freeze up, bombing out, our computers were worse, it got through the anti-viruses, activated our web cams & mics. Then one of my housemates got a settings message window pop up on his iphone screen saying "I will put it all back if you give me what I want", we freaked, we had no idea what it meant. The other iphones were telling us to sync to itunes.. We sync to itunes again, then about half an hr apart of each other- each of our phones turned themselves off, we turn them on again.... and discovered all data, apps, messages, photo's, everything completely wiped clean- gone. Most of the programs on our computers had been changed, all data on itunes was gone, we just couldnt believe what had happened.
I never did a back up- I trusted the iphones, I didnt think that i needed to. I had tried again to sync to Itunes after I uninstalled Itunes & reinstalled it again on my main computer but nothing. I thought that I better not try syncing it to my laptop then.
I have uninstalled most programs in my laptop & tried to clear out any dodgey data i could find. I have left what iphone files that I could find in there, but I cant tell which iphone/ apple data is what nor can I read any of it.
I have seen on other sites there are programs or tools to try and retrieve data, but I dont trust the internet, I'm not risking being hacked again by downloading from sites I dont know.
Can someone please PLEASE  advise me some kind of instructions as to how to retrieve my iphone data out of my laptop??
**I'm wondering if this Apple site will publish this, because I have never found anything on the net where people have had a hack as bad as ours, so it makes me wonder if there are people out there who do talk about bad hacks- if they're story ever gets published or is our hack "1 in a million!".

Syncing your phone will restore the iTunes content to your phone. I suspect the content has not actually been deleted from your phone, just not visible due to a glitch(it's happened before). Re-syncing will fix things.

  • My iPhone 5s has no visual voicemail or regular voicemail and data usage is off the charts....

Okay so problem number 1 with my new iPhone 5s is data usage has spiked tremendously. I don't know why this is as for the last 2 years I have had an iPhone 4 and barely ever used 1GB a month. Now with my 2GB allowance I reached 90% used midway through the month. I have turned off the LTE and now have turned off cellular data completely and am only using wifi. I don't understand why my data usage has been so high this month since I am using my phone the same way. Is it the LTE?
My second problem is my phone has no voicemail. It tells me visual voicemail is unavailable and to call my voicemail. Except when I call my voicemail it asks me for a password. I have had my phone number for over 5 years and never had a password and now I can't get into my voicemail. I tried resetting the Network settings, that did not work. I have left my self voicemails and no notification even shows up. I called *86 to create a voicemail and it asks for a password which I never made.
I am EXTREMELY angry with Verizon's service at this point. I can not use my data until next month, and now I can't even receive voicemail messages. If someone could please tell me what is going on I would be appreciative.

To answer your first question, the answer is yes, it is the LTE. Your iPhone 4 could only connect to 3G and so therefore unable to transfer data as quickly as 4G on the 5s. So then you end up using more data than you have before.
And your second question. I am not sure as to why it's asking for a password if it never was before. You can reset your voicemail password if you log into your MyVerizon account. Hope that helps

Try a reset. That is holding the sleep/wake and home button together until you see the Apple logo and release. That will reset the iPhone, but will not affect your data.
    Thanks! It worked just fine!

We bought the new iphone 5s when they came out from at&t and my dad has completely shut off and won't do anything? It has not been in ANY water or anything else that could have caused this.

    Try to reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
