Iphone sdk beta5: blank white screen

I wrote a simple test app under beta 4, which broke this morning under beta 5. I can't figure it out.
The app simply creates a UIView that does a bunch of rectangle drawing on its main layer via drawRect callback.
When I run in beta 5, all I get is a blank white screen - both on the simulator and on the device. It's as if the view isn't created or something.
But, I can trace in the debugger and see all of my drawing code executed.
As a test I also tried setting the background color of the view. And of the owning UIWindow. I never saw color.
If I run the app in the simulator, without the debugger attached, sometimes (one in five?) it will run fine.
I don't see any errors in the console.
My main app continues to build and run fine. This is purely a nagging annoyance and a concern..
Anyone else experience something similar?

Fixed it.
Before there was IB for the iPhone, we had a slave over a hot cliprect and create the UI by old-world hand craftsmanship. My app still reflects those classic values, in that I created the window object directly:
self.window = [[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] autorelease];
Apparently now the app does that automatically and then would slap it on top of mine right after creation. Since the original one had no content it was white. I was able to catch a very quick glimpse of mine (about 1 frame worth) before it was hidden one time which pinpointed the problem.
So removing the alloc for UIWindow in my code fixed the issue.

  • My 3G Iphone completely froze - blank white screen... HELP!

upon waking this morning, I went to turn on my 3G Iphone, & nothing happened - other than the screen turning white. Now, I can shut it off only by hitting the "home" & "Sleep" buttons at the same time. Upon turning it on, it goes back to blank white again. I tried synching it to my Mac... nothing. Any ideas?
    thx

    You're welcome
I would have come here myself if my iPod wasn't turning on and I didn't know about that link

  • When I try to access my iTunes Store from my iPhone 5 it opens with a blank white screen. Help!

I've tried for several days to open my iTunes Store on my iPhone. Every time it opens, but with a blank white screen.

    Hi Upswife,
When troubleshooting iTunes Store connection issues, the following articles provide the best information:
First, try signing out of your account in Settings > iTunes & App Store. Once signed out, go ahead and sign back in.
iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
If the above did not resolve your issue, refer to the following:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
    - Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking on Check for Update in your device's Summary page in iTunes.
    - Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you are on a 3G capable device, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    - Check to make sure you have an active internet connection. You can check the User Guide for your device for help with connecting to the internet.
    - Check to make sure other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the internet.
    - Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router
    - If the issue still persists see, iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connectionsoriOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections.
    Thanks,

  • My iphone 3g is stuck on a blank white screen

about 2 weeks after i got my new iphone 3g, i turned it on, and it was stuck on a blank white screen. ive already tried to restore it on itunes(that didnt work). I cant update it and ive already tried to reset it. I just think its wierd. I never dropped it or anything. It wouldnt have mattered if i did drop it because i have the otterbox indestructable case. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

OK so I went to the Apple store and he managed to restart my iPhone by putting it into "recovery mode". I just Googled how to do this as I wasn't there when he did it..
Disconnect the USB cable from your iPhone, but leave the other side connected to your Mac or PC
    Launch iTunes
Press and hold down the Home and Sleep/Power button on the top of the iPhone to turn off the iPhone
Press and continue to hold the Home Button while you reconnect the USB cable to your iPhone, this will cause the iPhone to turn on
Continue to hold the Home button until an alert message in iTunes informing you that an iPhone in recovery mode has been detected, like the screenshot below:
Your iPhone is now in recovery mode. If you have not launched iTunes, you will see the familiar screen of the USB cable pointing at the iTunes logo signaling to connect the iPhone to iTunes to start recovery.
Once you’re in recovery mode, you can either restore the iPhone or adjust the firmware as necessary.
After restoring or upgrading firmware, your iPhone will automatically reboot and exit recovery mode on it’s own.
It seems you will also need a wifi connection to complete the recovery mode.
TIP: If you have backed up your iPhone, click the "restore from iTunes back up" (last option) so when you plug it back in, it will restore from your back up instead of restoreing it to the original factory setttings.
NOTE: The above was really hard for me to get working so good luck! I tried a number of times and didn't get any message in iTunes but got my iPhone into what i assume is the "recovery mode". I'm still trying to get access a wi-fi connection to see if this will work but I will post another update once I can give it a go!
Good Luck! And let me know if anyone successful!

  • Blank white screen when minimized or closed

Lately, whenever I have iTunes minimized or closed, I now have a blank white screen the same size as the iTunes window. I can move this "window" but it covers other items. When I show the iTunes window again, it appears exactly where this white window is located.
Is there a way to fix this problem?

Here's a "me too" post. I'd love to hear if anyone makes headway with this. I am the outside Mac geek for a company that has an exchange server, mostly PCs and a handful of Macs and iPhones. All the iPhones are working like a champ save one on which the Mail application periodically stops working with the Exchange account. The calendar and contacts from the exchange account continue to sync just fine, but mail app will simply remain blank when the user clicks on the inbox.
I've been able to kill the account (on the phone) and re-setup and it'll work for 2-3 weeks and then one day simply stop. I've restored the iPhone to factory defaults twice now. This past time I've not restored the contents of the phone from a backup, but rather set it up as a new phone. We'll see if that makes a difference. I've also setup the Exchange mail account as an IMAP account as a backup. Other accounts continue to work just fine when this happens--it's just the Exchange mail account that flips out.
At any rate, if anyone has any additional info/experiences, please post as I'd be curious. I'm hoping this most recent reset will do the trick, but I'm not confident it will.
    Cheers,
    Stephen

  • After reading and resetting everything with Keyboard I still get blank white screen. The only way I can boot to Mavericks is unplug power cord, push and hold power button while plugging power cord in. Fans at full speed.

After reading and resetting everything with Keyboard I still get blank white screen on 2nd? page of boot. The only way I can boot to Mavericks is unplug power cord, push and hold power button while plugging power cord in. Fans run at full speed, machine boots then runs normal except the dvdrw will not . The mid 2011 IMAC had the same problem with LION. I changed hard drives, formatted, and installed a clean install of latest os x mavericks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the uninstaller provided with the Sophos software. You can uninstall CUDA via the preference pane. Be sure you remove the com.nvidia.CUDA extension which is located in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. Not sure if Fan Control has an uninstaller so you will have to do it manually:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.
Be sure to remove your two Login Items. Finally do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Hello there Sweebs44,
It sounds like you are tapping the Game Center app to open it, but the screen is blank. I recommend signing out of your account:
Go to Settings > Game Center, where you can:
Sign out (tap your Apple ID)

    - Did you try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring from backup
    - Then restoring to factory defaults.new iPod.
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem,
If iTunes does not see the iPod, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPO\od.  For recovery mode see:

  • Completely blank white screen?

I bought a new 3GS only 2 weeks ago after my 3G got stolen, and I'm already having problems with it (I have not dropped it, spilled water on it, etc). I woke up this morning and noticed my battery was extremely low (2%) so I plugged it into the charger, only for my entire screen to go white as it died. I have been charging it for about 2 hours now, while also trying to restart it, restore it, etc. Nothing is working, and my screen is still white. My phone is still working.. I can still recieve calls & text messages, yet I can't see anything but the blank white screen. Anybody know what is going on and how I should go about fixing this? Thanks.

Hi, I just had the same problem with my new iPhone 3GS I didn't drop it or anything and it just went white. I can also hear the phone is working but I cannot see anything.
What did you end up doing to fix this? Also, I am frustrated with the Apple Support I called and they of course pointed me toward the web and told me I was outside of Technical Support hours, but didn't bother to tell me what those hours were. Then I went on the website where you can request a phone call "at your convenience", right and then they tell you when is convenient for me, which is tomorrow at 9:45am. Frustrated I use this phone for work, I am an IT Manager curiously enough of the Service Desk, the other Manager's chose Blackberry's I was adamant about the iphone because of the outstanding service I have always had from Apple with my ipods but this is ridiculous.
Please tell me if anything worked for you, I bought my phone from AT&T on-line any suggestions you have would be very welcome. I am not very happy with Apple right now. Thank-you!
