IPhone will not backup automatically

My phone keeps alerting me that my phone needs to be backed up. I get a message saying that backup happens when the phone is locked, plugged in, and connected to wifi. My iPhone meets all 3 criteria.
Any suggestions?
I'm using an iPhone 4S running iOS7.
Thanks.

If you haven't added anything to the iPhone that would be included in an iCloud backup, then the device won't perform an iCloud backup.  Subsequent iCloud backups are more like 'updates' to the existing iCloud backup.  If there's nothing new to 'update', then it won't backup. That would be a waste of energy and connectivity.

  • IPhone will not backup or delete Photo stream

So, this all started because I was trying to update my phone with to the iOS 7.1.2 but I wanted backup my phone to iTunes first. It would give me an error that it could not backup because of some unknown error. I thought maybe it was my pictures. I had over 5,000 pics from over the years. So I copied all of the pics to my computer then deleted them off my phone. Then I noticed that my photo stream still had pictures. I turned photo stream off in my settings and it asked me if I wanted to deleted all. I clicked delete. The pictures are still in My Photo Stream album on my phone and now I cant even access the album to manually delete them. It force closes every time I click on the Photo Stream album. All I really want to do is back up my phone. I have the iPhone 5S 32GB. It will not backup to the cloud either. I have tried to reset the lockdown folder, deleted all previous backups on my computer, deleted all photo stream pics on my computer and other devices.  Let me know if there are any solutions other than restoring my phone to factory settings.

I have deleted all photo stream photos on my computer and other devices.
You only need to delete them in one place because they are only in one place.
The Photo Stream cache on your iPhone has not been cleared.
    Quit the Photos app.
Double tap Home then swipe up on all icons (to close them all).
    Then reset the iPhone.
Press & hold both Home & Power until you see the Apple logo (about 10 seconds).
Now go back to Settings > Photos and see if you can turn Photo Stream On then Off.

  • HT4759 IPhone will not backup

Iphone 4 will not backup to Icloud, just sits there

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • IPhone will not sync automatically

When I plugged my iPhone 3 into my Mac it used to launch iTunes and sync automatically. Now it does not. If I launch iTunes myself, it will sync by itself. iTunesHelper is installed, but its Kind is unknown. Any ideas what is up with this?

Open iTunes and plug in your iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, click on your iPhone in the left menu pane under "Devices." In the Summary tab, you should see an option that says "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected." If you check that box, it will automatically sync and backup when connected. In previous versions, the options to open iTunes automatically and to sync automatically were separated, but with recent updates, the options have been combined into the single selection.

  • IPhone will not backup

I have an iPhone 3Gs, 16Gb that for the past couple months won't complete a backup. Backing up, the phone prepares for backup for about 1-2 minutes then backup begins. It reaches about, maybe 10% progress in about 5 minutes then essentially freezes. I've let backups proceed overnight and they make no further progress to completing after 6-8 additional hours.
For example, this screen shot was taken after about 7 minutes of backing up:
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/Ankhanu/backupprogress1.jpg
This one was taken after another 50 minutes..
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/Ankhanu/Backupprogress2.jpg
This one was taken at just past the 2hr. mark
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/Ankhanu/backupprogress3.jpg
SOME progress was made, but it's pretty miniscule. If I let it go for several more hours, there's be almost no difference in progress.
If I cancel the backup at any point, the rest of the synch proceeds just fine, synching content (contacts, applications, music, pictures, etc) in a normal time. It just won't backup.
I've been looking for a fix for a while; I think my last successful backup was in maybe November 2009. I've come across references to certain applications causing backup issues, and to delete them; I did, with no result. I've deleted my old backups; no result. I've reset warnings, no result… I did a completely fresh install of Snow Leopard when I upgraded, and did a completely fresh install of iTunes… no change. I've tried giving the phone some hard reboots… no change.
I have seen one suggestion to delete all apps on the phone and then it will work… but this somewhat defeats the purpose of making a backup of your settings (I want to maintain my app settings)… and, well, that's a lot of deleting.
Any thoughts on how I can get a current backup of my iPhone?
    iPhone 3Gs 16Gb; OS - 3.1.3
iTunes 9.1 (and prior versions back to maybe Nov.09)
    System - 13" Macbook C2D 2.0; 2Gb RAM; MacOS 10.5.x through new install to 10.6.3

Interesting info on the cable. I am using my iPod cable... but I've also ALWAYS used my iPod cable (the cable hasn't even been taken out of the box) and it had worked just fine. I haven't encountered the other problems (freezups, etc) and it always proceeds to the backup progress, then it stops.
I have been deleting some of the extraneous apps that I really don't access that often and/or don't have any stored settings that I'll have to reset, and deleting some of the content from Good Reader to lighten the load a little on the phone. So far it hasn't helped, but I may not have deleted the right app yet; chances are it'll be one of the ones that I have to input account details into
I have another attempt in progress as I type, we'll see how it goes.
If this attempt doesn't work, I'll unwrap the synch cable that came with the phone and see if that makes a difference.

  • My iPhone 4S will not backup to iCloud

My iPhone 4S will not backup to iCloud. My husband has the iPhone 4 and has no proleg with backups. Any suggestions?

You need to have your phone plugged in and on wifi for automatic backups to take place.   Also, you must not be out of your 5GB free space on your iCloud account.
If it is hanging up, delete the existing backup and then try to start again.

    Hi billm1013,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. If your iPhone isn't being recognized in iTunes, and/or iTunes isn't responding to your mouse when the iPhone is connected, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • TS1398 After leaving a wi-fi connection my iphone will not automatically connect to the internet via the 3G network unless I turn it off and then on again. Is there a setting that can be changed to overcome this issue?

After leaving a wi-fi connection my iphone will not automatically connect to the internet using a mobile 3G network unless I turn my phone off and then back on again. Is there a setting that can be changed to overcome this?

Then I'm at a loss. Mine has switched automatically from the start, favoring Wi-Fi, any of its registered networks, whenever available. Only thing I can think of is trying a Force Restart and see if that clears things up: hold down Home and Sleep till the screen goes black and a white Apple logo pops up. Release and allow it to restart.
May be similar, when I got the i5 about 16 months ago, the local carrier was starting to roll out 4G service. The phone would regularly lose all carrier connection, voice and data. Haphazardly would reconnect when it felt like it afterwards. Initially did the Off/On dance to speed things up, but discovered that using Airplane Mode would do the same without the lengthier power cycle. After awhile, the carrier 'fessed they were having capacity issues and later the problem went away. So yours too may also be a carrier issue.
