  • IPad wont restore, stuck in recovery mode!!

My iPad wouldnt turn on, it would show the apple logo for like 10 seconds then the screen would flash black and then the apple logo would show again, this happened over and over again and would never turn on. I tried everything, then finally I gave up and decided to just restore it. So I put my ipad in recovery mode and plugged it in. It would get to the point where the bar on the ipad started filling up then it would stop and give me an error. At first it gave me error 14, so I did everything this website told me to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694. Then it gave me error 9 but I dont even have any security on this computer. So I tried different things and it kept giving me different errors. I even tried restoring on different computers. I gave up and now my ipad is stuck in recovery mode. Ive tried putting it in dfu mode, tried turing it off and back on, nothing, still recovery mode. I have an iPad 4. I dont have any other options. What do I do?

If you tried this, and still nothing, then a trip to the Genius Bar is in order.
Turn your device off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your device and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a device in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • Brand new iphone wont update, stuck in recovery mode

So I just bought a brand new iPhone 5S today, and when I plugged it into iTunes I saw that there was an update for iOS 7.1.2. When I tried to update my phone, iTunes downloaded the update but wouldn't apply it to the phone, instead giving me a "waiting for iPhone" message.  After a while I tried reconnecting the phone but iTunes stopped recognizing it and my phone was stuck with the iTunes logo and charger on-screen.  I then put my phone in recovery mode - no results.  I tried syncing it with another computer, but I can't restore the phone without it also installing 7.1.2, which doesn't work and just gets stuck on "preparing to restore iPhone."  Is there anything I can possibly do to make my new phone work again? Did 7.1.2 actually just kill my phone?

    Hello rph30,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
First, since your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes, even though it is in recovery mode, please follow the appropriate link below for the computer you own:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • My iphone 3gs is stuck in recovery mode. i have tried to restore using itunes but it ends with a message saying there was an error and couldnt be restored

hi  desperately need help. my iphone 3gs is stuck in recovery mode... when i try and do the restore via itunes it goes through the motions but when it gets to the end it tells me there was an error and it couldnt be restored...  originally it was an ex contract phone that i had opened to orange from vodafone.. it was fine until i tried to do the ios 6 update

There is a way to get it recovered from the so called DFU mode. Try to restart the phone while holding the home and power button at the same time. Then try to connect it to iTunes and do the same again. If you try that again till it works you should be able to use your iPhone as before.

    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
I hope this information helps ....
    Happy Holidays!

    Hello NoahLovesYou
Try putting your iPhone into recovery mode and try to restore it again. If it gives you an error while it is restoring in iTunes, check the error against the second article for additional help.

    Hello Andyoneill9,
It sounds like you are trying to restore your phone but keep getting an errror message 3194. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
Error 3194 or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4451
    Resolution
Important: If you see one of these messages and need help updating or restoring your iOS device, Install the latest version of iTunes and try to update or restore again. After that, follow these steps if you need more help.
    Check your "hosts" file
After you've updated iTunes to the latest version, you can check the hosts file to be sure your computer can contact the update server. Use the numbered steps below if you’re on a Mac.
If you’re using a Windows computer, follow steps in this Microsoft support article, noting that resetting the hosts file will affect software services that rely on hosts file redirects. If you're using Windows on a business computer, consult your IT department to be sure applications will still work correctly after resetting the hosts file.
In the Finder, choose Applications > Utilities.
    Open Terminal.
Enter this command and then press Return:
    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer and press Return. You won't see text appear in the Terminal window when you enter the password. Make sure you use a nonblank administrator password.
Terminal will display the hosts file. Navigate using the arrow keys and look for an entry containing “gs.apple.com”.
Add the # symbol and a space ("# ") to the beginning of the gs.apple.com entry.
Press Control-O to save the file. Then, press Enter when prompted for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor.
    Restart your computer.
Try to update or restore your iOS device again.
This is the first troublehsooting step to try, so there are additional things to try if needed you need them.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
