IPhoto has gones from crashing to just being ... blank
I have a late 2009 iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6.8
My iPhoto 8 stopped working when I plugged in my iphone/ipad. The familiar message came up about the problem report. I upgraded to the lastest iPhoto (9.2.1 from the App shop - will have to look into whether the TOS allow me to downlod it a second time if I delete it) thinking that would solve the problem. Problem persisted. Before mucking about too much I tried using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library; it could not work and showed me the same problem report message from iPhoto. I copied my 50 gb iPhoto Library onto an external drive so that if I reinstalled I would not lose the photos. The original iPhoto library is still in place. I wanted to open iPhoto so I could more fully examine the problem report log and copy the first 50 lines of code. For a while I couldn't even get the Problem report when opening iPhoto, just a blank white box with a blue "choose" button in the bottom right corner. The menu bar at the top of the screen is available but almost all choices are greyed out. After trying various things I have gotten the problem report back (copied below). I have tried the obvious choices of rebooting the machine, deleting the plist file and looking for 3ivx (not installed). I am now a bit hesitant to do anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

So here I am on a Saturday night looking at my photos and realized that iPhoto has gone completely cadywopmus. Viewing photos in iPhoto everything looks fine. Looking at my photos using Finder I now see, only in a few folders, that there are up to 5 duplicates of many of the photos. They all have the file name IMGXXXX1, IMGXXX2, etc. (all my photos typically have the IMG_XXXX.JPG). I did not create these, and in some cases they were dud photos that I have stricken from iPhoto altogether. Why then has iPhoto duplicated these photos? Again, it’s only in a few folders that I just looked at randomly. Any thoughts?

I want to listen to internet radio as I used to do. The selection "Radio" has gone from my list under "Music". How do I get it back again?
I don't know if this is what you really want, but I created a Playlist for Radio, and add some of the stations I like from websites. (If you click on the web-links they load into iTunes in the Sidebar). And you can also add individual Radio stations from the top right,(under Apple) to a Playlist. That's the only way I know to have them in the Sidebar.
Z_ZS-B, You also helped me to find the old Radio list! I didn't even know it was up on the right, under Apple. I haven't liked this version of iTunes so I hadn't even bothered to try and figure it out until now, but because I just bought a my first iPod Shuffle I'm determined to bend this version to my will. ;-) -
I cannot open iCal because of a problem. Can anybody help me? The computer will not allow it to open and sends a message to apple each time. The icon has gone from the dock, but ical works on my iPad and I am afraid to sync it with my computer in case it wipes everything .
I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

I can send and receive calls.
I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.
Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a text.
When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until they are all shown. lots of lag time.
It runs slow.
I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and play music, and have files, and...and....and.
I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become clear and readable.
When online and scrolling, it hitches sometimes/lags/gets stuck then unstuck
I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)
The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back and forth between green--the old os--to gray. And I have found no continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.

Whoa whoa no need to go restoring stuff yet, once you've done that check to verify you have done what Overlook2011 IF that doesn't work for calendars ensure your default account for calendars is set to iCloud and in calendars that it is told to "Show all calendars"

Until you have tried Maps, Music, etc. first hand, I wouldn't formulate negative opinions about them. And updates, if performed correctly, do not erase data.
I presume that last time you updated through iTunes. This time, update over Wi-Fi by going to Settings > General > Software Update. -

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
