Ipod Classic does not start up

I've tried the toggling of the Hold button, holding down the Menu, Play & Middle button...
Right now I have it plugged into my PC. It does not appear in my iTunes.
HELP.

So the iPod does not even power on? If so, that would why it's not recognized in iTunes.
How old is the device and how long have you left it to charge? If the iPod's battery was completed depleted, you'll need to wait at least half an hour (sometimes longer) before the device will or could show any signs of life.

Just had the very same problem. iPod Classic shows up on my desktop but not in iTunes (11.0.1). I tried restarting iPod while connected as suggested elsewhere. Didn't work. What did seem to work however was, while the iPod is connected (and on the desktop) restart iTunes. Once it restarted it was there and synching. I also, before restart, made sure that auto-synching was set up in iTunes preferences (under devices).
Try this. May work for you as well.

My ipod classic does not show up as a device in iTunes. It was working just a week or so ago, but each time I plug it in the screen says connected, then switches to Ejected, you can now disconnect, then says OK to disconnect and then goes to the home screen. Anton, I wish I could help. I had an old iPod Classic (60 KB) as a gift but it went dead, I dropped it a few times accidentally, and it sat carefully saved until I had sufficient resources, energy and time to get the matter addressed. In my case, I actually took the thing (after making sure it was charged) to an Apple store and one of the geniuses at the genius bar at the back of the store took it and did a few things (unseen and un-noted) with his fingers and handed it to me with a sly smile. Voila, the thing was functional. I got a re-functionalized iTunes account and store access when I bought my iMac. I did lose a few tunes along the way because it didn't recognize my new iMac as the source (my old dead PC laptop), but I have a more functional memory than the iPod and recovered them all in other ways. The whole thing is humming better than ever. At over 11 gb full, I have 4.2 days worth of portable listening. Be patient; it took me four years to get musical nirvana in a pocket, but you'll get there faster. Call support.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ipod classic does not play in auto

My IPOD Classic will not play on my Rosen navigation radio.

I had the IPOD playing before plugging in the Rosen IPOD cable, then it started playing. It may have just been a matter of the radio recognizing this IPOD because the installer had used his NANO. Don't know exactly but it now works fine.

Hi. When I connect my ipod to any microsoft device, sometimes my ipod doesnt connect. I cant charge it, or restore it as it behaves like a useless piece of plastic.. I get a yellow bubble 'Device not recognized or has malfunctioned'
This problem is bizarre! I cannot find anyone who actually has a solution for this problem! Apples standard answer is for me to reinstall my drivers or update itunes or windows. Done it. No solution yet.
My ipod works fine.... sometimes. Its a completely unpredictable problem. Ive googled this problem and so many ipod classic owners have asked.. solutions ive tried: the 5r's, updating drivers, It managed to connect once, but now it wont. My ipod normally works fine on my PC, XBOX, laptop and Mac.. but sometimes, unpredictably, it wont be recognized by anything apart from the mac. For a month it would not connect at all and I took it in to an Apple store where they told me it works fine. Its not my PC.. its up to date, and theres no reason why it doesnt work on my XBOX because some times it does.. last night it did, today its broken again, I suspect tomorrow it may work. This is SO frustrating!!
I have alot of experience in PC's and normally I can solve a problem by process of elimination, updating and reinstalling, but in this case.. everything seems fine. My only idea is that maybe its my Sync cable?? Which also makes no sense because it generally connects fine on the mac - and, why would a sync cable be unpredictable.. surely it either works or it doesnt. HELP PLEASE!!

IPod classic does not show up in iTunes or on imac desktop

I have a 80gb Classic Ipod. 2 days ago it stopped showing up in iTues or on my desktop when I connected it to the mac. On the iPod it shows "connected" and every so often the display on the ipod shows moves to indicate it is syncing but nothing happens on the mac or itunes. The only place the iPod shows is under Disk Utility.
I have used different ports and usb cables.
Help... I can't get my lovely new tunes on my iPod ....
p.s. I have an iPhone 4 and it connects and syncs with no problem.

IPod Classic Does Not Show Up in iTunes...

I have an iPod classic and a Macbook, and whenever I plug in my iPod it is not recognized in iTunes, in the Finder, or on the desktop.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and that works - but only temporarily. Currently I am having to uninstall/reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, which is not exactly ideal!
I have also tried using a different USB cord, which makes no difference. However, my iPod is recognized on my friend's Dell laptop.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem once and for all?

Make sure you are running the latest version of itunes and quicktime. thats all i can say, hope it works.

I've had my Ipod classic 80GB for about 5 years. Yesterday for the first time, I encountered a major problem. My Ipod does not appear in either Itunes or My computer when connected by USB to my laptop.
The I pod just displays the message 'connected - eject before disconnecting'. Also my Itunes and internet explorer freezes while the I pod is connected.
I've researched the problem online all day and still no solution. Have already reset the Ipod to factory settings, performed diagnostics both on i tunes and disk mode on the ipod itself. The latter displays the information 'Reallocs 0 and Pending Sectors 2, which from my research indicates that the disk drive on the ipod itself is still ok.
Is there something I'm missing here? Or is it time to get a new Ipod classic?
Would be extemely grateful for any advice.

Do you have an administrator account on your computer? If you are not logged in as administrator, do so before attempting to change the to manual. However, I myself am having the same problems with my own ipod..

160gb Ipod Classic does not sync

Hope someone can help. Purchased a new Ipod classic for my mother two weeks ago and created a new music iTunes library for her. The Ipod charged up but when it came to syncing it just would not work.
It appeared in the iTunes window with the correct Ipod name (although it showed up as a Mass USB storage device on my PC rather than an Apple ipod), the sync started and showed various songs being copied but then suddenly cut out saying that there was an error, that iTunes had stopped working and had to close.
This happened on a couple of occasions and even when I tried it with my own iTunes library that crashed as well. I reset the factory settings on the Ipod - no joy, same fault; however, I tested my own Ipod nano and that was fine.
Spoke to Apple and they went through various steps with me - none of which worked. Asked me to shut off my firewall and PC protection, remove iTunes and all associated software from PC and then reinstall - they would call me back the following day to see if that helped. I did this but exactly the same problem is occuring, no music copies to Ipod and even the few tracks that are shown as being copied.
Phone call from Apple and after a couple of tries at syncing they got me to into the disc menu on the Ipod but it would go no further so whatever the next step would have been I am not surer, it has now stuck on that menu and will not even switch off!
Any ideas?

I have had a similar problem with my iPod not syncing all my Trailer Park Boys episodes. What I did to fix it was in iTunes, if you go to the TV Shows tab, you'll need to make sure you check all TV Shows get synced to the iPod not just unwatched episodes. Once you do that you'll see that all will work nicely.

Hi everyone,
I'm having some issues with my iPod Classic (60 GB). My iPod was working fine up until this morning; there is now no music on the iPod and it does not let me sync with iTunes.
I have removed and reinstalled iTunes, changed the drive that the USB cable connects to, and it still doesn't work. I also tried a system restore unsuccessfully
I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the iPod itself. I have been able to sync an iPhone successfully with the same cable, and windows recognizes the iPod. I even did a diagnostics test and iTunes recognizes that an iPod is connected. The iPod just stays on "do not disconnect" and doesn't do anything when its plugged in.
Any suggestions for this non-Apple tech savvy user?

Ipod classic does not read my files

I just purchased an ipod classic (I haven't had one til today)and I connect it to my laptop, my computer reads it as a hard drive, so I copyed music and videos from my computer to ipod and when I disconnected it ipod was saing that I have no music files or no videos. So what I did wrong? Can't have itunes, not an option

If you can't have iTunes, you're going to have problems. If you drag and drop files on to the iPod through Windows Explorer, they will be available as data files to be transferred to another computer but the iPod operating system will not see or play them. You need to load the files through iTunes (best way) or some third party manager. I've heard there's a plug in for WinAmp that may allow you to load your iPod.
