IPod hold button broken(?)

My 2nd generation nano's hold button will not switch off. It is about three years old and the adhesive started detaching from the top button housing, where the hold button is.
After flicking the ipod on and off, and seeing no change, I decided to remove the top covering and expose the hold switch. I tried manually flicking the little red switch with a paper clip, nothing happened and it remained in the hold position.
The ipod is still working properly.

Almost assuredly the answer is yes. Take it to an Apple store for replacement or contact them using the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page.

First thing to do is reset the iPod and see if that doesn't clear it up...
To reset your 5th generation iPod with video:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
The above is Apple's instructions. I would add that you want to hold the two buttons a good long time like 15-20 seconds before declaring it a no-go. As it says above, sometimes if it doesn't reset the first try... try, try again.
If that doesn't work, then do a Restore on it. If after a Restore, it still is stuck on Hold, then you may have a hardware problem like a broken hold switch or the little sliding part slipped off the switch inside.

Ipod hold button not working

I sent my ipod to apple to get the battery replaced.
On receiving the ipod back i realised the hold button did not work and that the ipod was continuosly crashing when on the move and downloading songs from i tunes.
I contacted the support team thinking i could send it back under the 90 day gurantee (because it was apple who sent me the new ipod back), but because i purchased it 2004 they said I had to purchase some apple protection at £39.99, is this true?
Even though it was apple who sent me a brand new ipod back!!

my ipod (nano) hold button douse not work it will only work if i pluge it into my comp i will disconnect it and will stay on. But if i try to turn it on not connected not my comp it will not work. Hold button broken?

i have a 4th gen ipod touch and the other day i tried to press the hold button and it wouldn't depress. the sides move up and down, but you can't press the button down at all. is this a fixable problem, or is my only other option to live without a hold button?

If Apple can't ustick it Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB one and $99 for the other 4G iPods. They do not fix yours.

Mini ipod hold button problem

I bought my sister a mini ipod. she is having problems with it now. whenever she turns off the mini ipod, puts it on hold, after a minute or less than a minute sometimes, the ipod just turns own even if it was already shut off and put on hod. Whenever this happens she can press the buttons and control the ipod even if it is on hold. how can i fix this for her?

It is likely a hardware issue, you need to send it for repair as I did.

IPod centre button broken

Hi,
I have a forth generation 20GB iPod, and have owned it for about 15 months with no problems up until now. However, today the centre 'select' button simply ceased to work. It worked this morning when I selected a playlist to listen to, but then a little later on when I went to change music I noticed it wasn't responding at all, and hasn't done since.
It's strange because all the other buttons work, the music still plays fine, and it charges/updates as it should. I can't think of any reason why this has happened, it didn't suffer any serious impact that I know of in the time when it apparently 'broke'.
I have tried the 5Rs with the exception of restoring. because I thought I'd post the problem here first to see if anyone knew the answer before going through the restoration process. I also updated the iPod software today to the lastest.
Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Update: As of 5 minutes ago, the play button has stopped working too, rendering it completely useless
Seems odd that it's slowly breaking piece by piece, but makes me suspect even more that its a mechanical fault rather than a software fault. If so, is there anyway I can send it away to see if it can be fixed?

You are going to have to take it to the Apple Store to see if they can do anything for you. The Home button is critical for using your device. You need to get it fixed.

Ipod touch 4g has broken pins and the hold button is defective, is it eligible for off warranty replacement online it says it'd be $99.99

i have an ipod touch 4g 16gb ios 6.1.5.
the dock port pins are damaged badly, music has not played for a while but is come and go now. dont know why (without headphones)
and the hold button doesn't work, will apple still honor the "off warranty replacement thingy" i had issues with my old ipod (not dock issues)
i know they check the dock port on arrival, but i need to know if the ipod will qualify or not

Well, my nano has your same problem. what i do sounds a little funny but i take a guitar pick, stick it into the top left side of the nano, move the hold button to the RIGHT side, and take out the pick. then when i squeeze the top left corner, it works. yea, it stinks.

Broken hold button?

Just recently my iPod touch hasn't been letting me turn hold on and won't let me power off so my battery always dies after a couple hours. I can't even reset it because the button just seems unresponsive. It's really frustrating. Is it a broken button or something that I can fix?

Same thing for me, but I'm not sure it is the "hold" button. It stopped working when I launched the iGolf app for the first time. The Touch froze so I force restarted it; then, it repeatedy started and stopped until the battery ran out. It did eventually restart and I deleted the iGolf app (I also deleted it in iTunes before syncing) and resynced my Touch; however, I can turn on the iPod but I cannot turn it off via the "hold" button (top button). I have a first generation IPod Touch 16 GB. I suppose my next step is to restore from a backup.

Sounds like the hold switch is broken, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

Hold button on iPod (touch wheel) 3rd gen problem

well my hold button on my 3rd gen ipod touch button has just stopped working so when you slide it nothing happens, which is a problem as it is all touch button so it keeps changing tracks and stuff without me pressing anything.
so i was wondering if anybody else has had a problem like this and if so how they had it fixed because calling up the apple support the fix was about £170! might aswell get a new one, so any help from anybody will be appreciated.

If you successfully restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Could be the screen or something else.
