Ipod Mini appears frozen

My mini appears frozen. It had a low battery and when i was listening to a song it turned off. It will usually turn back on if this happens, but the apple wouldnt even pop up. When i hooked it up it wouldnt come on either. I also tried resetting with no success. My guess is the battery is gone, but ive only had it for about 11 months. Im not an expert or anything but from what ive been reading the battery should last a lot longer than 11 months, shouldnt it?
Does anyone have any tips for me before I send it in for a new battery? Well, Thanks Guys!

  • IPod mini is frozen

PLEASE HELP. my ipod mini got frozen suddenly. none of its 'click wheel' buttons are working. the hold button is okay as i can see the lock on the LCD when i set it to hold. i've tried to
reset the ipod mini at most 10 times and
    (ii) restored it twice.
(iii)i've even tried to reset it while it is on power on my PC.
I can switch on the ipod only by switching the hold to on and then to off.
    Please suggest something? Thanks.

Thank you very much for your response.
As suggested, I let my iPod battery run out and then plugged it back into my PC to charge. After about 1 hr., it was back to normal...I'm hoping!
BTW - is this a common occurance? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if it happened naturally or if it is because earlier in the day my daughter dropped it. It worked fine after it was dropped, but 45 mins. later it locked up.
I have an opportunity to exchange it (iPod Mini, if damaged) for the Nano or regular iPod (since the mini's no longer exist), but if this is purely coincidental, then I would rather keep it.
Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

  • Ipod mini appears as "New Volume" in itunes

After using my new ipod mini in itunes successfully, the ipod suddenly stopped appearing as "Mary's ipod" but instead is now "New Volume" and is not recognizing any songs on the mini. I can seemingly load music into the "New Volume" but this is not connected to my actual ipod as none of the new songs show up in there. I have checked that I have the latest updater and itunes, and when I got to File --> Update ipod, the latter is greyed out. Any ideas?

This is what you do to change "New Volume" back to "Mary's iPod". When "New Volume" is connected to your computer, double click on it. The cursor should appears, you should be able to backspace on your keyboard, erase "New Volume" and type in "Mary's iPod" and then press "Enter".

  • Ipod mini totally frozen

Ipod is really frozen nothing works, the lights are on, if i connect it doesnt appear on desktop. Is there a way to restart ipod if nothing works

I have a similar problem, and I tried those r's. It has been sitting with a song on for over an hour, and on the very right side, a star is coming out of the side. I tried reseting it, connecting it, and everything else, but it won't turn off, and I can't do anything with it.

  • My IPod mini appears to be working, but I do not get any sound.  I have reset it, but that didn't help.  Is it possible that when it was exposed to a lot of sweat it shorted the speaker card?

My Ipod mini will not produce sound.  I have reset it, still no sound.  The only thing that I think might be causing this (and I want to know if I am correct) I carried it in my  hand while walking in extream heat.  The perspiration may have gotten in the device.

Be sure to try another set of headphones, if you have one.
Since you already did a Reset, the next thing you can try is to go to the Settings screen on the iPod (from the main screen).  There should be an option at the bottom that says something like Reset All Settings.  Choose that option to reset iPod to default settings.
If that does not bring back the sound, the next thing to try is a Restore in iTunes.  Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  The Restore button is there.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is a software or settings glitch, a Restore should fix it.  Try putting a few songs on the iPod to check if there is improvement.
If that does not bring back the sound, it is probably a hardware problem.  A fix would then require replacing whatever part is faulty inside the iPod.  It could be the headphone jack or something on the logic board.  Moisture getting inside could have caused the problem, but it could just be age; maybe the headphone jack is just worn out.

  • Ipod mini not frozen yet won't let me play music

Symptoms: Upon being turned on the ipod mini acts normal by showing the apple icon. However, it has a new and unusual sound when it turns on (no headphones are attached when this happens). Then, it displays a picture of an unsmiley ipod mini and a link to the apple support site. Finally, it turns off.
What I've done to fix it: I've plugged it into my computer, toggled the hold switch on and off (while disconnected from the computer, turned it on dozens of times, and tried pressing and holding random buttons on the ipod for kicks. No dice.
Is there any cheaper way to fix my ipod mini than sending it to the apple store? I went through the procedure of signing my ipod mini up to be fixed and stopped when I saw what I'd have to pay. 210$!! A brand new mini costs 50 dollars less!
    Thanks for your time,
    Andrew

my ipod mini second generation pink died while I was playing it as I do everyday on my Bose. It makes a funny clicking sound. All that happens is I get a falshing apple symbol. I have tried the hold-menu--switch solutions many times but nothing happens. When i plug it into the computer it doesn't show up and is not recognized by my ibookG4 which I have shut down and restarted. I live 200 miles from the nearest Apple store. HELP!!!!

  • My iPod Mini Broken/Frozen - Can't find one thing to help my problem :(

First off, my iPod is frozen at the "Do Not Disconnect" screen because I was adding music from the iTunes library to the iPod when iTunes started "Not Responding"(For the first time ever) [while i was transferring music]. So I ended the task and unplugged the ipod, and I reopened iTunes, but my iPod would now show up on the menu. So, I unplugged my iPod (not noticing "Do Not Disconnect") and then reconnected it, but it still wouldn't show up on iTunes. So, then i unplugged the iPod and it wouldn't do anything it's just frozen at the do not disconnect screen WITH THE HOLD LOCK ON! So it will not do one thing; I tried "The 5 R's", but it won't even reset or do anything. So I restarted the computer and unplugged the iPod. When it came back to the desktop I plugged it in and 2 bubbles popped up one said "New Hardware Found", but the other came up with an exclamation point saying
"USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
When I clicked the bubble a seperate window came up with a saying at the bottom that said, "Recommendation: Try reconnecting the device. If Windows does not recognize it, replace the device." So after that I followed the 5 R's, well tried to, so next I unistalled the iPod Updates and iTunes and then restarted and then reinstalled the iPod updater first then restarted then installed iTunes and it did not help one bit what so ever...
So PLEASE help me, I have NO idea what to do or where to start and I'm not even that computer illeterate lol, but please I need someone's help. I don't know what to do.

Just let the battery die on your iPod… This is only advice we can give you… If I were you, I will insist on reseting it… the best way is to let it die on your iPod too…
But, it doesn't work, and if you're still under warranty, call Apple and ask for a replacement…
    Good luck
but you don't have any strange message such as a folder with an exclamation mark, or a sad iPod with eye-crosses ?

  • Ipod mini is frozen...will not connect to mac

the screen and backlight are on but nothing is happening and it is not being recognized by my mac so i can ot do anything to repair it...is their an emergency shut down on this thing

Have you tried resetting it? Hold down the menu/select buttons until you see the Apple logo. It may take several attempts, and is best done connected to power.

  • Ipod Mini Frozen up!

My girlfriends iPod mini has frozen. Apparently it displays a website address on the screen. anyone have any ideas?

    Try a reset.
Press and hold the MENU + CENTER buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. This is best done when her iPod is connected to a computer and it might take more than 1 try.

  • Ipod Mini's Hold Lock not working.

    Hi,
My girlfriend's Ipod Mini appears to be stuck with the Hold Lock permanently on. The Ipod can not be turned on nor does it respond when it is hooked up to the computer.
I have updated it's software but I am unable to reset it. Can you suggest anything to rectify this issue?

    Hi TJClegg,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I would not try forcing it, you don't want to risk breaking it (voiding warranties). You may want to bring it to your <a href="http://www.apple.com/retail/"</a>local Apple Store/Reseller to have it checked out. You may also want to look at iPod - Service FAQ.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • Ipod Mini not going to sleep....

Hi, I have managed to change the battery of my Ipod mini, but still after the Ipod is fully charged the battery life still lasts only a few hours....
My assumption after reading all the technical documents, is that even though the Ipod mini appears to go to sleep (either by itself or after the play / pause) button is pressed for a few seconds, that in fact the Ipod isn't a sleep and the battery runs down....
I have updated to the latest 1.4.1. software... only recently happened, and replaced the battery (but perhaps it didn't need it).
And it's 14 months old so out of warranty...
Does anyone know of issues with sleep mode not working correctly? Is there a software fix for this????
    Cheers

I think I'm having the same problem - let me know if you find an answer and likewise I'll do the same. Is going to sleep the same as turning off? Mine doesn't even turn off when I press down the play/pause button!

  • IPod mini does not restore - Any advice?

My iPod mini is frozen, after switch on, on the Apple logo.
Doing many resets do not change anything. Battery is OK.
I have tried restores, but the iPod is not recognized, when connected either through firewire, or USB, on 2 different MAC iBooks.
All tricks given on Support page have been tried (the 5 R method), to no avail.
    Any tip or idea welcome.
This iPod mini is itself an exchange for a previous mini that had battery problem, and is less than 4 months old!!

"the iPod is not recognized, when connected either through firewire, or USB, on 2 different MAC iBooks."
Given the above statement, I would say it needs replacing again. As a last resort, try this from an Apple troubleshooting article.
In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:
Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it."
After that, try the restore again.

  • IPod mini gone? Help.

Hello...the iPod mini appears to be non-functional. We've tried charging the 4GB Mini to two different Mac computers plus a car charger and cannot get anything different than either the Apple logo or a half-battery symbol. (No exclamation point, just a half-charged, unanimated battery symbol.) Computers do not recognize the icon, nor does it appear in the iTunes menu. As a consequence, it cannot be restored, or we would try that. iPod was purchased in April'05. Can the battery be gone? What can we try besides what's mentioned here? Thanks so much for your help and answers.

    Hey Kristina,
    Just making sure...
