IPod not showing up in iTunes on Windows XP

I know this appears to be covered in the help files elsewhere, but the ultimate suggestion of restoring through the iPod updater still fails as the software doesn't find my ipod.
Running iTunes v5.0.0.35
Trying to run iPod Updater 2005-09-06
I have two mini iPods and one is working correctly so I can be confident that the cables and PC, etc. are okay.
Second iPod is working in so far as playing music is concerned, and will charge on the mains lead, and shows up as a drive in Explorer when plugged in to the USB2 cable nd can be stopped using the "Safely Remove Hardware" function.
Resetting the iPod using select/menu seems to perform the reset (I get the apple logo) but iTunes software still doesn't see the iPod when connected.
I would be grateful for any suggestions on how I can fix/reset the iPod so that it talks to iTunes again.
If I use the original CD to try to format the iPod, it takes some time to initialise, but finally reports that the unit requires formatting. Having clicked on the format button, the software has been reporting that it is "Waiting for iPod" for the last 15+ minutes.
Many thanks in advance
RC

I've decided that a problem I have with iTunes continually asking me to authorize music I have downloaded coincides with plugging the 'faulty' iPod mini in.
Not sure which is chicken and which is egg, but as my other iPod mini continues to behave I still thing it's a faulty iPod rather than software/pc/cable issue.
Just wondered whether posting this sheds any more light on it for anyone. As things stand, I have requested a warranty repair through the website.
Regards
RC

  • My iPhone is not showing up in iTunes, or Windows Explorer.

I have looked around searching and tried to uninstall everything that had anything to do with Apple and iTunes. Nothing worked. I also have gone into the computer managment and stopping and starting the apple managment and iPod service. Still, nothing worked. My iPhone will not show up in iTunes, nor Windows Explorer, when I plug it in I can hear the sound that when a device gets plugged into the computer.

It sounds like you have a bad USB driver for the phone. That software is installed with iTunes. Like I said earlier, you need to make sure to uninstall everything using that support document. That clears out all Apple software. Do that without the phone attached to the computer of course. Once you have reinstalled everything, then try and connect it. It should load the USB driver and begin to work.
Let me ask you this. How many pictures do you have in the camera roll? If you have a large number of them and  you have not imported them to the computer, there could be a corrupt picture causing you some problems. While that was known in the past to cause syncing problems, I thought that was fixed. If after you uninstalled iTunes the phone was recognized as a camera, I suggest importing the pictures and then deleting them from the camera roll and try the process all over with uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. See if that helps.

  • Ipod not showing up on itunes or my computer.it recharges when i connect it

Ipod not showing up on itunes or my computer.it recharges when i connect it but it dosent show up under devices so i cant sync any music!!the screen on the ipod would usually say "connecting"or"do not disconnect"but it dosent say that anymore!!Ive been trying to fix it for DAYS but i cant find a good enough solution.PLZ HELP!!(p.s. i have a 4th generation nano)

    Hey there,
A file or some files may have become corrupt somehow during connecting or disconnecting the unit. Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if that helps. To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode.
If you are able to do this, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod to its original settings. Keep in mind that by doing this you are erasing all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on your computer somewhere. More on restoring your iPod can be found in the Apple document below.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod not showing up in iTunes (but it worked before)

Hey... this is my second day of having my iPod and all was working fine. I had loaded songs into iTunes and was able to transfer them onto the iPod..
The problem I am having now though is that I always leave my computer on at night, but I turn off my monitor. I went to sleep last night and when I turned on my monitor this morning, my computer had shown that it had been reset (it was prompting me to log in) so I did so, and now my iPod wont show up in iTunes anymore... but it does show up in windows explorer.
Any fix to this? I've restarted my computer several times, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and also stopped the iPod process in the device manager thingy and restarted it, but to no avail.

I've posted several questions over this and no one has helped me either, i've done all the delete, uninstall, reinstall, computer management things too, and nothing has worked for me either, I am quite disappointed at how I am not getting any help. Hope you find someone who can help you!

  • Ipod not showing up in Itunes on Mac computer

When I plug in my ipod touch to my computer it does not show up in Itunes. do I need to reset my ipod touch?
Help!!! I have done all the things to troubleshoot this situation other than reset my ipod. I am afraid to do this. I don't want to loose anyting.

    I would try:
    - Rebooting your computer
    - Resetting the iPod.  Nothing would be lost.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Trying another USB port and cable
    - The troubleshooting here.  You di not say what you alread tried.
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    - Last would be to place it in recovery mode and then restore it.  However, you will loose everthing on the iPod.  Restoring from backy and syncing will then restore you iPod to what it was before the last backup.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • IPod does not show up in itunes or windows

I've been through all relevant troubleshooting pages and I still can't get my 4th Gen ipod to show up on my computer or itunes. I have managed to install a driver, so the device manager recognises there is an ipod fitted.
Is it because I have WIndows Vista? I've checked that its fully upto date.
    Please help, its highly frustrating.

I need help with this as well. (Of course, like the others, I have also checked the various support pages and googled the problem to no avail.)
Basically, I want to connect my ipod to my work computer so I can charge it while listening to music. I did not have trouble with it in the past (I was able to connect it without itunes, ipod would charge once plugged in to a usb port - it showed charging "do not disconnect" message; I could also charge it while listening by ejecting it through windows - right clicking the ipod drive listed and selecting eject) and it's connecting to my co-worker's computer just fine! So I think it's a usb problem on my computer but i have no clue as to what to do... >_<
When I got to work today and plugged my ipod into my computer, it mysteriously did not show up under the windows explorer as a drive so I could not eject it as normal to charge and listen. Originally, this morning it did JUST charge (plugged ipod in and "do not disconnect" message appeared), but after I fiddled around and selected to stop device under the device manager it would not connect again. So now it is not even connecting to charge.
I've tried installing itunes, rebooting various times, resetting my ipod, turning it into disk mode, changing it back... - all nothing.
Although...when it changed from disk mode back to regular ipod mode and I plugged it into the usb drive it did charge for a while (as if it was on aka i could play music; it didn't show the "do not disconnect" screen), but when I touched the click wheel it stopped charging!!!
this is very frustrating so any help would be appreciated

  • Windows Service Manager 32-Bit Has Stopped Responding/iPod not showing up in iTunes

    Hello,
I've scoured this forum for answers but I cannot find any result that works. I have an iPod classic that I've connected to my Gateway running Windows Vista for over four years without issue. When I was using iTunes 9 the other day, I plugged my iPod into my computer, but it only connected to My Computer and didn't connect to iTunes and update my iPod accordingly. So, the iPod is charging and the iPod is showing the "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" screen, but it isn't adding new music (which kind of defeats the purpose of buying new music). I thought it was because I was using 9, so I downloaded iTunes 10, but the issue still popped up.
This hasn't pop up today after I installed 10, but back when I was using iTunes 9 the following error came up on my computer: "Windows Service Manager 32-bit Has Stopped Working." Now, no error messages pop up, even though the problem persists.
I've tried suggestions in this post as well as in this post. Also, with the fix being recommended in those threads to change the code in Notepad by clicking "edit" under the System tab under My Computer? There's one problem - there is no edit button on my options. I've included a screen grab to prove this.
I don't know if the relative age of the discussions makes any difference - maybe a new fix has com up and i'm just not finding it? Plus, since this issue began with iTunes 9, I can't help but feel like getting rid of iTunes 10 is going to help the issue, either.
This is incredibly frustrating, not being able to add new music to my iPod, so if anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it, as previously recommended ones aren't useful.

  • IPod not showing up in iTunes, and...

    Windows Vista, Home Premium, 64-bit.
Brand new 32GB iPod touch, 2G.
I bring it home from the store, plug it in, everything works perfectly fine. By that, I mean it charges, shows up as a device in iTunes, and gets all my songs and videos on it. I also install iTunes 8.2, since it tells me I should.
That was yesterday. Now, when I plug it in, it makes two beeping noises. The iPod itself doesn't react at all, the screen just stays black. The iPod doesn't charge, and it doesn't show up in iTunes.
So, I call Apple for support, and I get it. Uninstall/reinstall, messing with the AMDS service, everything I could. The guy brought it down to either a problem with the cable, or the computer, but said it doesn't seem like it's a problem with Apple.
After the fact, I try plugging it in again, while holding down the home button, and something new shows up. It says this:
    "Found New Hardware"
"Windows needs to install driver software for your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)"
and it gives me these options:
"Locate and install driver software (recommended)"
    "Ask me again later"
"Don't show this message again for this device"
of course, I choose the first one and I click it. It then says:
    "Driver Software Installation"
    "Installing driver software"
"Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) Searching Windows Update..."
"Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) Pending..."
After a few moments, something new pops up, while "Driver Software Installation" is still running, saying:
"Found New Hardware - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)"
"Insert the disc that came with your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)"
"If you have the disc that came with your device, insert it now. Windows will automatically search the disc for driver software."
and of course, iPod touches don't come with a disc. It gives me this option:
"I don't have the disc. Show me other options."
so I click that, and it gives me a this:
"Windows couldn't find driver software for your device"
    it tells me I can:
    "Check for a solution"
    or
"Browse my computer for driver software"
I click "Check for a solution." Instantly, it says:
"Windows was unable to install your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)"
"Windows could not find driver software for your device."
"If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
there are no more options except for "close" at that point, and the Driver Software Installation says "Failed" as a status, so I just close it.
Here's the other catch. I'm willing to try about anything to get it to work, so I think "might as well plus it into my laptop." So I do. Within moments it says:
    "New hardware detected: iPod"
    and then:
"iPod USB drivers installed and ready to use"
my iPod begins charging, and would apparently work fine on my old laptop, running XP.
I have no idea what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

    Aaand, FIXED!
    Thanks to this: http://technicallyeasy.net/2009/03/restoring-a-previous-version-of-your-itunes-l ibrary/
    Everything working perfectly now. Thanks!

  • Ipod not showing up in Itunes

When I plug in my ipod, it doesn't show up in itunes at all.
but it charges fine, and it shows up in my computer.
    What do I do?

I have this problem with several versions of iPods nano. They are mounted on the desktop but don't show up in iTunes. Interestingly, the iTunes window comes to the front, so it thinks something should be happening -- like showing the iPod in its sidebar list -- but it's not happening.
I have found the following works:
    Quit iTunes
    Plug in the iPod
When iTunes is launched with the insertion of the iPod, it seems to show up in the list but not when iTunes is already open.
