Ipod only displays songs in playlists..Help!

Help - my Ipod nano only displays songs as playlists - in other words I cannot view songs as album, song, genre etc.....how on earth do you solve this??? Thanks!

Try putting the iPod into disk mode. I know that you said a reset was unsuccessful, but just try.
-hold menu + select buttons for 10 - 15 seconds
-when you see the apple logo fade away and come back on the screen IMMEDIATELY switch to holding the select and play/pause button
If you get the checkmark with OK to disconnect, that is a plus. Plug it into your computer and it should switch to "Do Not Disconnect - Disk Mode" At that point it should be recognized by your itunes and you should be able to transfer your purchased items off of it.
If not - iPod will need repaired.

  • HT1386 My husband and I traded ipod with each other. Now, I am unable to put my entire library on the ipod. Only some songs imported. HELP

My husband and I exchanged ipods with each other. I attempted to import my whole music library to this current ipod. only certain songs imported. Not all. How do I get the WHOLE library to this ipod?

if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library?
LOL!  If Home Sharing deleted the other person's library, then Home Sharing wouldn't have too many users, would it?
Seriously, Home Sharing sounds like a fine solution to the need you express.
However, your question suggests that your library is not backed up, right?  You and your husband should each make a backup of your libraries.

  • IPod Reports no songs or playlists, however iPod is full.

I have a 30gb 5G ipod that has never had any problems until I loaded it full of new songs (around 20,000 of them) which are small files for foreign language study. Subsequently, the iPod reports that there are no songs or playlists. However, the ipod is roughly 17 Gb full, and this is properly reported under the about menu.
I restored my ipod, (twice) but this didn't help - midway through the first try, I stopped the sync and checked and the songs showed up, and I plugged in and re-continued. When all the songs were updated, once again no files display.
The iPod reports no songs or playlists, when in fact there are thousands of tracks on the iPod. The pictures, oddly, show up. When I say it reports no playlists or songs, I mean that if I go to the about screen, it says 0 songs and 0 playlists, although it shows the correct amount of Gb used. All of the menus are blank, with no songs or playlists. The exception is the photo viewing function, which still works fine and displays all of the photos on the iPod as it should.
This same problem has been reported a number of times by other iPod users elsewhere, just one example:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-61231.html
I am using the most current version of iTunes on Windows XP. Everything looks and behaves normally on the itunes side of things.
My iPod is essentially unusable currently, as it is loaded with songs but won't recognize them. I would appreciate any help.

I tried to change the drive letter as suggested. However, after a restore and a sync, I end up with an iPod full of inaccessible files. sigh
By the way, to be exact, I have over 33,000 files now - could the shear number of files have something to do with it? Is there a limit of the number of files that can be put on the ipod? I also have over 300 playlists - could this be a problem?

  • Ipod only lists songs, no artists, will not mount or appear in itunes

Looking for some assitance: have a 5g ipod with multiple problems that was given to me to fix by a friend. First problem: It is a windows formatted ipod and it is not recognized in windows or by itunes. The ipod plays the songs stored on it (it's not completely dead), however, when plugged in via usb the ipod will not show up as a drive or in itunes. I have followed every piece of advice on how to fix a problem like this from this forum, apple support and other forums, but nothing has worked. The battery shows that it is receiving a charge from the machine, but it is not recognized.
The second problem is that the ipod will not show artist or album, only songs. If I select artist from the menu, it shows me only song titles. Same thing for Albums. very strange. I believe it may have something to do with the version (1.0) that i see in Settings/About menu, but I don't know enough to say for sure. I've tried running the ipod updater, but it does not recognize the ipod either.
    Can anyone help?
    5g Ipod   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

camoracer, you are right, there is no fault to cause the ipod not to show trackdata, so it must not have been put on there,
    back to the big problem:
Id say a number of things it could be:
USB CABLE (try a different cable)
USB PORT (try a different port)
DRIVER (make sure the ipod drivers are installed0
And as a final try, put the ipod in hardware disk mode ( centre button and menu [ipod resets] as soon as it has started to reset press centre button and play/pause together, a tick should appear See:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 for more info.)
and see if it shows up then.

  • How does iPod Mini store songs and playlists?

    Hi,
I am a new user of iPod Mini.
I have some music in my music library in iTunes and I have created a few playlists. Some songs are in multiple playlists. When I copy over these playlists, will these music files get copied over twice or only once?
I am worried that this will eat up space on my iPod and hence I am wondering whether to remove all dups in my playlists.
Can anyone please advise? I would expect that iPod dumps all song files at one place and the playlist is just a pointer to these various files. Can someone confirm if this is true?
    Thanks,
    SS

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Suryanarayana!
Can someone confirm if this is true?
    Confirmed.
    Have a look at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/4.9/en/513.html
Although the article is about playlists in iTunes, it's applicable when they're transferred to the iPod.

  • ITunes/iPod nano & chinese song names [please help]

i own an iPod nano 4gb.
first question is is there a setting i can choose (either in iTunes or the iPod nano itself) to make the on-screen iPod nano text appear larger than the default? anyone that has chinese songs with chinese characters will notice that the font as compared to english text is relatively lighter (not as bold). hence, it is harder to read.
second question concerns chinese music. all my songs are chinese and the song names, artist names, album names etc are in chinese characters. those files that appear with chinese characters by default on Windows appear fine on the iPod nano as well. however, most of my songs require a program called NJStar Communicator (www.njstar.com) to display the chinese characters - those that have chinese music should know what i'm talking about. without NJStar, the names just appear as random symbols in Windows. the problem is, all of the songs that require NJStar appear on the iPod nano as symbols despite the fact that they appear as chinese characters on iTunes when NJStar is turned ON. when NJStar is turned OFF, the names are just displayed as symbols on iTunes. irregardless of whether i update my iPod nano when NJStar is on or off, the names remain as symbols on the iPod nano and i was just wondering if anyone knows how i can fix this or perhaps it's just tough cookies XD
    any information is much appreciated,
    many thanks.

first question is is there a setting i can choose
(either in iTunes or the iPod nano itself) to make
the on-screen iPod nano text appear larger than the
    default?
    No.
    however, most
of my songs require a program called NJStar
Communicator (www.njstar.com) to display the chinese
    characters -
I think NJStar uses an encoding which is not compatible with iTunes or iPod. You need to convert the ID3 tags of the songs that require NJStar to display correctly to Unicode. I have heard that ConvertZ is a program that might help do this.

  • Rating songs and playlists help

    Hi,
I've just got a I Pod Nano. I know how to rate the songs using the stars. But was wondering if I can then make the i pod play the songs that I've rated as good. I like to organise my i pod in terms of album and artists (I make a new playlist for each artist or album). I don't want to make a playlist of all my favourite songs in addition to the songs being in the playlist of each artist/album and therefore have the songs on twice using up space. I just want the i pod to recognise which I've rated highly and play them without putting the songs on twice!
Hope this makes sense, I got my I Pod as a free gift and knew nothing whatsoever about it before I got it!!

I make a new playlist for each artist or album)
    Why? iTunes already does this.
Go to Music -> Artist and it will show all albums by that artist.
Or go to Music -> Albums and it will show all albums.
You can create Smart playlists whcih do what you want.
There are a few by default already in iTunes. Recently added, Top 25, etc.
Go to File -> New Smart playlist and create new ones and see what you come up with.
All songs rated 4 or 5 star and not heard in last month.
All songs in Genre Rock and Added in last two weeks.
If you have a large library, iTunes will Automatically create a new playlist which fits. To put on your own selections prevent this, go to iTunes prefs -> iPod and select Automatically update only selected playlists and select those you want.

  • Sync only selected songs (not playlists)?

How do I sync my whole library with the exception of some selected songs (they all don't fit)?

You have two options that I can think of:
    1) Uncheck the songs you don't want to sync. Set the option on the iPod to only sync checked items. Problem: You can't play songs in iTunes that aren't checked.
    2) Create a playlist with all the songs except the few you don't want. Sync that playlist instead of the whole library.

  • My iPod wont display songs even though it syncs them and sometimes it crashes iTunes. How can i Fix This???

I have 160 GB iPod classic it worked fine for the first few months i had it now it wont sync, if it does sync it doent display the music, videoes, podcasts, etc.or it crashes iTunes, if on the off chance it doesn't do either of those things then it takes forever to sync, and it skips certain songs that worked a minute before on it and it rarely ever plays video. i tried restoring it, formatting it, troubleshooting it.so can anybody help???

If your iPod harddisk hasn't gone  kaput yet, then try my suggestion below or else send it to Apple, if it is still under warranty.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze Itunes sync Operation with Ipod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your Ipod filesystem, so all the freezing symptoms point to this problem.
    My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after checkdisk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
    Good Luck!

  • Will not display songs in playlist

I absolutely cannot stand this new version of iTunes!  I cannot find the songs next to the playlists, it no longer shows the time elapsed nor the time remaining at the top.  How can I display it the way it was before?

Pssh you're lucky. I don't know if it's itunes or iOS that's causing the problem here. My issue is when I put new music on my iPhone, after awhile, it deletes all the music and videos on my iphone completely, BUT it doesn't delete off of the iTunes. It all is still there like I didn't even touch it. But on the iPhone it's all gone. This is what I get.
I tried everything. Restoring my iPhone. Reinstalling the music. I manage my music manually too, but keep the sync on. I also turned off autofill. This is ridiculous. I thought it was the iOS. Downgraded to a lower iOS and still had the same problem. Can't downgrade the iTunes on my windows PC though. This *****.

  • IPod Only Charges on Computer.  HELP!

I've got a 30gig Video iPod, and a Monster iPod adapter, and it will not charge my iPod at all. NI've tried several different car-chargers/transmitter and none charge my iPod. The only way I can charge it is through the computer.
When it is connected in the car, it transmits fine, but simply will not charge, and acts as if it it's not plugged into anything.
What's going on here? Anybody got an idea?

I have a similar problem. I live in a house with my parents. My mother has the 4th gen 20GB iPod (no color screen) and I have the 5th Gen 80GB Video iPod. She has iTunes on her computer on one end of the house she uses to keep her iPod updated, I have my own on the other end of the house I use to keep mine updated. We do not mix or use one another's iPod on the others computer. We both use a sepreate iPod AC charger when not in use to keep the iPods charged.
The last two days I have noticed when I plug in my iPod (80Gb Video) to charge with the AC adapter, it does nothing. No show that it is receiving any power. Same with my mothers iPod (20GB 4th Gen).I went to use my mothers AC adapter and the same thing, nothing. No battery icon or any show that the iPod is receiving power. When plugged into our respective computers, they update just fine, and when updating is complete, they show they are O.K. to eject, and are being charged, although very, very slowly. This is why I have always used the AC adapter to charge my iPod, and my mothers as well. This has worked as it has supposed to until the last few days. Now the only way to charge either iPod is to keep them connected via USB 2.0 to the computer or when driving, we both use a Fm charger/transmitter that plays the iPod over FM radio while charging at the same time. It is the dLo car Fm charger and transmitter I bought in 2004, and it still works without a problem. Both iPods fit in it and have worked flawlessly.
I have tried to plug my iPod into every outlet in the house, using her AC adapter on mine and vice versa to see if there is any difference. I have reset both iPod's and still get the same result. It acts as if the chargers are not even plugged in. When you plug a AC adapter into a wall socket and then your iPod, it always makes the iPod come on and show it's status. Now it does nothing. It is as if it was not even plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening. The iPods both work and play as normal when turned on, but it is as if two separate AC charges decided to do the same thing at the same exact time, which i find to be more than coincidence. We are both using iTunes 7.1.0.59 and are downloading the new iTunes 7.1.1 as I type this, hoping that this might be the problem or could fix this. I have run McAfee Virus scan on both computer, and bith are up to date and clean. McAfee does not intefere with iTunes or iPod, and has not posed any problems ever with my iPod or iTunes..
I am hoping someone has had this problem or knows what could be causing it. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you for your help,
    Brian.
