IPod pauses abitrarily

When connected to iPod HiFi or other accessories which combine dock connection with playing music, my iPod abitrarily pauses as if it was disconnected from power supply.

Me too. I thought it was an anomoly the first time, but now it has happened several times. So far it has always arbitrarily paused when the iPod is in the Universal Dock. It has happened both playing music and tv/movies. The Model of my nano is MB247LL; the Version is 1.0.2 PC.
It seems like there has been at least two iPod software updates since I purchased this nano. The arbitrary pause definitely never happened with the original software, although I can't say that it would never have happened. I have also loaded more onto it since then.

  • IPod Pauses On Hold In Pocket.. Why?

I use my 5G iPod at work, mostly. It stays in my pocket so when I sit down, it presses against the side of my leg. It seems there's some sort of magic combination of buttons that makes the iPod pause when held down. It's not the headphone connector, I've tested just holding down all the buttons on the click wheel midsong and it does it every time. Has anyone else discovered this? It's really annoying.

Yea, numerous times.I've put it on hold, held it with two hands and pressed down the entire click wheel with both thumbs, not even hard, and it pauses, so I have to unhold it and unpause. It seems to be a built-in function, unless I have a defective iPod and only mine does it.

  • IPOD PAUSES RANDOMLY

I have a problem with my Ipod, actually it's becoming a big issue. My Ipod stops randomly when using other headphones than those from apple.
I read on the internet that a lot of people is experiencing this problem but Apple makes nothing to solve it. Even people is getting new Ipods from Apple and the problem persists.
Does anybody how to deactivate that feature that makes the Ipod to pause if the earphones are unplugged? Any other idea?
    Best regards,
    Antonio.

All non-Ipod issued headphones have been "problematic" for me. Unfortunately, I do not have the option of staying away from these problematic headphones as suggested by Apple support (what kind of support is that?) as the standard issues do not fit in my ears.
I now actually despise my Ipod. I used it for exercising all the time before I upgraded to Photo 60G. Now my afternoon jog consists of hitting play, hold, putting away in my hip pouch, walking a foot, Ipod pausing, digging out, take off hold, hit play, put on hold, put away and REPEATING as necessary. Needless to say, I don't make it very far these days and I'm in a bad mood after to boot. And no, my headphones have never actually come unplugged as has been suggested is what sets off this feature.
Glad the extra money I spent went into such a well thought out and obviously untested with 3rd party headphones feature.
You know they will take this off or allow it to be disabled in the next generation, until then the problem will continue to be ignored. I JUST WANT MY OLD IPOD BACK!
In the meantime, Ill continue to spread word about this problem. STICK WITH THE TRIED AND TRUE Ipods, don't get new generation/photos.

  • My ipod  pause's number of times durning a song

When i play a song it starts to play than during the song all of the sudden with me not touching a thing, of the ipod it will pause's on me. I press the play button and it will play some more of the song than it will do it again.
    Plz help me

I'm just going to copy&paste what I recommended to another person that was having trouble with the iPod pausing:
If these are freezing while playing only specific playlists, I'd try recreating the iTunes Library as described in article: 93313 to see if maybe it was an issue with the content. Do you notice specific songs are being affected more than others (if you got some through CDs and some through Limewire or the iTunes store or something).
Try restoring the iPod after this, and see if the issue persists.
Another thing you might want to try out, before going through that other troubleshooting would be to try keeping the hold switch on while playing the content, sometimes it recognizes that the headphones are being disconnected and makes the song pause. I've seen it happen before.
    Hope I helped out.

  • IPod Pauses Between Songs

My iPod pauses slightly between songs when I'm listening to an album - any idea how turn that off?

    Which iPod?
    Which iTunes?
WHat do you mean "it pauses"?
Do you mean it stops or the music has a break in between songs?

  • Why won't my ipod pause when I turn off the ignition in my car? It used to.

Why won't my ipod pause when I turn off the ignition in my car? It used to.

How is the iPod connected to your car stereo?, (via earphone jack or iPod dock connector)
By "pause" you mean that now it is playing thru your car stereo, while previously, it stopped playing thru your car stereo, when you switch off the ignition?
Anyway, I don't think it is an iPod problem, but you can try the
iPod Hard Reset -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
refer to this Apple supprt Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
This reset wont delete any of your songs, just put all the settings back to when you first took it out of the box.

  • IPod pauses randomly, affected by headphones

I'm very positive that my iPod pauses randomly because of my headphones. I've always known this, and more expensive headphones work fine (golden coatings) but i just got a $10 one, and just like I fear, my iPod is pausing randomly again.
I once read about how to fix this using tape or something... I'm willing to do most anything, any help?

    don't know how yet

  • I play a song then my ipod pauses

I play a song on my ipod then the ipod pauses by itself

See here: iPod nano (6th generation): Music stops when display turns off

  • My iPod pauses/turns off during the same songs while docked in my speakers.

Why does my iPod pause during certain songs each time.  Some are downloaded from iTunes and some are imported from CDs.  I have deleted and reimported the ones from CDs, but it still happens.  This is really agrivating and has nothing to do with the headphone jack because I am not using the headphones.  Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?  It seems to be the same songs each time.

    A few questions:
    1. Do the songs play correctly in iTunes?
    2. Have the songs ever played correctly on the iPod?
    3. What format are the songs in? (Highlight the song in question in iTunes, then right click and do get info. Look at the summary tab. For example, here's a song a ripped long ago from CD into iTunes:
What do you see for the songs that are giving you trouble? Is there something common in the kind, bit rate, sample rate, or encoder that is different from the songs that work correctly?

  • IPod pauses every 10-20 seconds whenever it's not on dock

So, my ipod is about a year and a half old; video 30g. Whenever i'm in my car listening to my ipod, or just listening to my ipod with headphones, it randomly pauses in the middle of the song. it's not frozen; i can just press play and it starts up again, but 20 seconds later it pauses again. i thought it was because mine's a harddrive, but my friend's ipod nano does the same thing. can anyone freakin help me, it's really annoying.

Well, it sounds as if space is not a concern, however finding a corrupt song can be an issue. Generally, the 5 r's are the method for troubleshooting an iPod, and Restore is one of them. If all of the music is in your library, then a restore should not be an issue, and that would ensure that the iPod is clean. Have you installed any new music lately? That could be where the bad song came from. Otherwise, I believe there is a way to check the library, but I need to check that out myself before I tell you how. I can't remember and don't have iTunes on this computer, since I'm using my work laptop right now. Try this an see, and let me know.

  • Trouble with iPod pausing intermittently

This iPod was purchased by my son two months ago. The iPod will periodically pause right in the middle of a song. At first, I thought that he was accidently touching the clickwheel, BUT I watched it happening while the iPod was sitting on the counter and no one was touching it.
Does anyone have a clue why this iPod will pause intermittently?
Thanks for any clues you can offer.

See doing a Reset of your iPod works, by pressing "select"+"menu" keys until you see the apple logo.
Otherwise, you may need to restore your iPod to factory settings.

  • IPod Pause Issue

somehow, my ipod randomly pauses when i listen to a song, only occasionally though...i dont know if you can fix this problem, i do the reset thing but sometimes it doesnt make much of a difference as sometimes my ipod will just start randomly pausing with a different song. so yeah any ideas for help please?

I was just coming in here to search for an issue like this, and found this thread.
I started experiencing what seems like this same issue yesterday. When playing MUSIC ONLY on the iPod, iPhone 3G, random skipping, within the songs, pausing etc. is occurring. This is not occurring when playing podcasts however.
The other oddity here is it does not happen, when playing through headphones. It's only happening when using an auxiliary cable through my car stereo. I know there is nothing wrong with the jack, or plug, as other devices, including another phone\ipod work just fine.
I'm calling Apple regarding this as I literally just had the phone replaced due to a problem with the ring\vibrate switch falling off, so this is a new\replacment 3G. It's been updated to the latest of everything, so this is really disturbing me at this point.

  • Alternate reasons for iPod pausing???

There have been many posts re: various models of iPods randomly pausing and almost as many solutions. Clearly there are multiple causes for the same result.
So far, though, I have seen no discussion on potential impact of file size or compression scheme in the discussions. There is an apple note related to battery life that mentions the cache is optimized for files 9MB or less (about one minute of uncompressed AIFF). In my case, with first generation architecture, it appears that with the combination of buffer, cpu and disk, uncompressed files are, in fact, not playable. I can watch the buffer refill by looking at the playing time and seeing it burp as the buffer flushes/fills. The playing time locks up when the playback pauses. It looks like some sort of buffer underrun problem. I'm not sure if the 1G models have disks that park on impact, but walking around does seem to make things worse. Sitting on a table is not enough to play through though.
I did the whole 5R thing, the 1g headphone jack is surrounded by plastic so the grounding issue does not appear relevent. I also turned off journaling in the iPod file system. The only fix that works is to compress the files as MP3s. Then, all is well.
So, at least in the case of old and battered 1g iPods. AIFF may not be a consitently playable format. Those with newer disk based units may actually have marginal drives or drives on the verge of failure - worth getting it checked out before the warranty sneaks by. I don't think this would apply to Flash based iPods, in fact, I may just try to hack mine to replace the drive with a CF socket.
    YMMV

The colorful, brilliant screen is cheery! One can read it any where. I think it is magical just as it is! I used to have a palm from the old days that was just black and gray and so dim I couldn't read it in coffee shop lighting. Making it pretty useless. I had to be at a desk with a direct light or out side in the sun.
It took good notes though. With bold highlights etc.

  • IPod pauses after 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

This started happening about an hour ago; after choosing a song and leaving my iPod alone for 2 minutes and 20 seconds, it pauses. It doesn't happen to podcasts though, and I assume that after that amount of time is when the clock face pops up. My iPod is a black 6th generation 160 GB Classic which was gifted to me just a week short of 2 months ago. I appreciate any help that I receive.

Could you please do the following.
Download the following two files and save to your desktop. These are direct download links so you'll only see the dialog boxes which looks like the ones you see in the screenshot.
    * [http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe uninstall_flash_player.exe]
    * [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe install_flash_player.exe]
Next, close Firefox via File | Exit (''it's important that you do it this way and not just by clicking the close button'')
Next, double click the '''uninstall_flash_player.exe '''file you downloaded earlier and then '''reboot'''. A reboot is necessary to remove the setting from the Windows Registry.
Next, double click the '''install_flash_player.exe''' file to reinstall Flash.
Finally, restart Firefox and see if it made any difference.

  • My ipod pauses itself while on hold and not being touched

Sometimes when my ipod is just sitting there minding its own business, and even on hold, it will pause itself. I will then unpause it, put it back on hold only to have it happen again. It doesn't do it all the time but it drives me absolutely insane when I am listening to music across the room.
Has anyone had this happen or have any clues? It happens still even though I have reset it a few times! I am afraid my ipod might be disfunctional or something!
    Help!

    Hello camweiss21,
At this point I would take my iPod into an Apple Retail Store, just to verify it needs service.

if one is available. Or you may need to look into this:
