  • Dropped Ipod, connected to Itunes, said Ipod was corrupted...

So I dropped my ipod, yes I know Im stupid. So I turn it on, and its kinda being funky, so I plug it in, and it says my Ipod is corrupted and restore to try and fix it. So I restore it, and now I can actually use it, I can get on it, click around thru music, artists, videos, etc., except that now theres no music on my ipod because I restored it, and every time I connect my ipod to try and get songs back on, it says it is corrupted.

Reformat it in Windows (FAT32) then do a Restore in iTunes.

  • How do I transfer my library from an iPod classic to iTunes to replace a corrupted library?

    any help much appreciated.

This should be able to help ya out -> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
iTunes will transfer the purchases made from the iTunes Store on your iPod to your computer. It treats all other music and video syncing as a one-way street, to comply with copyright laws (wont sync stuff not purchased through iTunes from your iPod to your computer).

  • If U R Trying To Copy Music From Your iPod To Your iTunes Read This First!

If you need to copy music from your ipod to your itunes in your computer becuse all your music was erased, try this first. • Can't Install iTunes for iPod Classic over iTunes for iPod Touch - iPod Classic not regconized

I have an iPod Classic (80GB) in my car and wanted to buy an additional iPod for use in the house. The salesman assured me that the iPod Nano Touchscreen would be backward compatible with the hardware I have, but it wasn't, so the store manager kindly agreed to me swapping the unit for a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB (at the extra cost, of course).
I can remember that when I connected the iPod Touch the first time, it asked me whether I should install something, which I did. All my music was subsequently transferred to the iPod Touch. It was only when I tried it then that I discovered that it is not 100% backward compatible with my hardware.
Now that I have purchased the new 160 GB Classic, iTunes simply won't synchronize. I downloaded the latest iTunes and installed it - no change. I saw that you could make it work by checking 'Enable Disk Use' from the Summary tab. However, my iTunes does not have a 'Summary' tab, and when I checked further on Google, I found a statement on Apple Support that 'disk usage' is not supported on the iPod Touch.
I then ran 'Device sync tests' under 'Diagnostics' from the Help tab - it came up with the reply 'No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found'. In other words, iTunes still thinks that the connected device is an iPod Touch and not an iPod Classic, despite me having installed iTunes several times.
Is there a version of iTunes that I can dowload that would recognize the iPod Classic? How can I resolve this problem? I want the same music on both of my iPods.

Please igonore - stupidity on my side - problem was resolved with a call to the ever-so-friendly Apple Technical Support helpline!

  • Transferring iPod library to iTunes/other iPod

Ok, so here's my problem. My hard drive crashed on my iBook and I had to get it replaced. I lost all my data and the majority of what was on the old hard drive was music.
Is there any way to transfer the music on my iPod back into my computer? Or, if I were to get.. say the iPod Touch, would that music on my current iPod transfer to it? Help please!!
    - Chanel

You can't transfer directly from one iPod yo another but if you copy the songs back to iTunes you can update a new iPod from there. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iRepo Mac & Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

This is exactly the same problem that I am having I have posted on 14th March on itunes forum. I wish you luck I wait with interest to see what someone says. My ipod was working like a dream until i downloaded the update

  • Changing iPod settings on iTunes when iPod is not connected

I got an iPod nano 2GB and would like to change the settings on iTunes without connecting my iPod to it. I don't want iTunes to open when I connect the iPod and want to be able to use it as a disc. When the iPod is not connected there is no option showing on the iTunes screen to make the changes. Can anyone help please?

You have to connect the iPod to change it's settings. If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent it syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Deleted iPod Playlist but iTunes shows iPod with same capacity as before!

    Hi!
Can you help out? I wanted to free up some space on my iPod, so I deleted one of my Playlists through iTunes, however, although the Playlist has successfully been erased, shown capacity has not! The playlist was ~2.5GB, but my iPod's capacity meter has not changed at all!!
What's up?! I would love the extra capacity please (my iPod nano 2G is the 8GB version)!!
Thanks & looking forward to your reply.
    Stefan

Indeed you deleted the playlist but not the songs... you can check on the "Music" tab that all the songs remain in your ipod... if you want to delete songs you have to do it from this "Music" tab... deleting the playlist doesn't delete the songs inside

  • Corrupted iTunes question

If this exact question has already been answered, sorry in advance.
Long story short, I turned on my laptop, which started up very slowly, for some reason, and then attempted to open my iTunes. It gave me a message indicating that it couldn't be recognized because it had been corrupted and it was restored to an iTunes with nothing downloaded.
So, here's my question: when I plug in my iPod (Nano, 4th gen) will it erase everything currently on there as it updates? If so (which I certainly don't want), is there anyway to restore the music that was in there?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Do you have your iPod set up in iTunes to "automatic sync"? If so, think very carefully before you decide what to do as this COULD result in removing all the music from your Pod. If you have it set up to "manually manage" your music, there is no problem : you can attach the iPod and nothing will happen until you tell it... BUT...
    1. Is it just the app itself / the iTunes Library database that were corrupted? If so, have a look for your music files, which should all (or mostly) still be there - look for an iTunes Music folder or, if your music was stored outside iTunes itself (you had 'copy tracks to my iTunes library when importing' UNchecked) then it will be safe where it was.
    2. If iTunes is behaving like a new fresh copy and has set up a new iTunes Library database file, then it won't recognise your iPod from before, and will prompt you to set up its Settings via the Summary screen the first time you connect it. Just don't tick "automatic sync" !
    3. You could get hold of software that allows you to copy from the iPod back to iTunes (Google "ipod to itunes" for a whole stack of stuff) - but only do this if you can't locate your music files.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • I can't acces my new iPod nano through iTunes..it seems to have been barred

I just installed my new iPod nano.. I already had an iPod and so I still had all my old music saved in my iTunes library.. I added that music to my new iPod. So it appears in the column alongside the 'Library', 'Store' and 'Playlists' tabs (underneath the 'Devices' tab) but it wont allow me to select any music or play music from my iPod whilst in iTunes.. It seems like its all barred.. I have no idea why.. I can still acces music from my library but I cant through my iPod.
I've downloaded the newest version of iTunes.. what other settings should I change?

If the contents of iPod Nano appeared to be "greyed out", you have the Nano set to autosync. If you wish to manage the iPod content directly, you will have to set you iPod preferences to manually manage. Manually manage will also allow you to play iPod content through iTunes.

  • Some Podcast Playlists not syncing from itunes to ipod

There's no problem with the actual podcasts syncing to my ipod and they play on the ipod.  The playlists are the same in both itunes and the list of podcast playlists on the ipod tab in itunes.  I've reset the plays, deselected and reselected, set them to not auto delete.  I've 'Marked as Watched' and then 'Marked as Unwatched'.  All the playlists are set up the same way.  I've tried sycing using both methods of 1, using the 'File> Devices>Sync xxxx etc and 2, the sync tab in bottom right corner of the 'Podcasts' tab(ipod tab in itunes when ipod connected).

    Just a stab:
The song titles need to have a check mark next to them in order to sync.
    Thanks ... Ken

  • "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." What is this?

I have been getting this error message since about the end of June when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. It's pretty annoying. Let me lay out how this has been happening for the past month, the best I can. I have a 32GB 4th gen iPod Touch
I load content up to my iPod. Music, Apps, Videos, pictures, etc.
My iPod works well for a little while, days sometimes a week is the longest I went without seeing this message.
I connect iPod back to my laptop through the standard pack in Apple USB connector.
I get the "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." message. When I go to the preferences tab, I click restore and iTunes gets stuck trying to restore my iPod. Then I have to uplug my iPod. And Shutdown/Restart my PC reconnect my iPod, and go through the restore process again.
I have been doing this for as I said, a month. It's getting pretty grueling to keep havomh putting cotent on my iPod after these restores.
    I've tried everything.
I've stopped autosync, it still happens.
I tried to reinstall iTunes(be it I didn't full uninstall before trying to install again and got the option to fix corrupted files and such
I've deleted all old back up, and it still happens
Today is the fist time I'm fully uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling to see if this works.
But do you guys have any otehr solutions for this? As I said, this didn't start happening until I installed the lastest version of iTunes 10.6.3

    - Have you tried another cable?
    - Another USB port?
    - When you have the problem, connect it to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - Try just restoring the iPod to factory settings/new iPod. Do not restore from backup. If you still have the problem with this and all computer that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Did a corrupted (8008) iTunes video corrupt my entire iPod (80 GB classic)?

I've had a black 80 GB iPod since around the time it was first released (January 2007). Until about 6 months ago, I never had any problems with it - I could download songs, TV shows, movies, and games without experiencing any problems.
About 6 months ago, when downloading a TV show season package, I received a message on one of the episodes that I'd never seen before, error 8008 (which told me that the file was corrupted and could not be downloaded). After some unproductive back-and-forth with a representative, I gave up on the episode and deleted the file from my computer hard drive completely. Of note, even though I'd given up on the episode and removed it from my iTunes download list, it appeared on my iTunes download list randomly last week and there were no problems with the download.
But ever since the original incident 6 months ago (when I received the 8008 error message), my iPod has turned on me. Videos that I have downloaded since then (both movies and TV shows) will suddenly freeze and the iPod itself will start making this noise - kind of like a computer when it's "thinking" - and I can feel the iPod churning in my hand. This is usually accompanied by a harsh loud scratching and "bleeping" noise on the audio, and the screen goes black. On some videos, I have been able to fast-forward for several seconds and then it returns to normal. On some of these videos, I have to fast-forward several times during the video because it will happen more than once. And some videos I simply cannot watch because the iPod will not permit me to fast forward over the corrupted segments. It takes a lot of effort and many attempts at resetting before the iPod will become "unstuck." Songs and albums I've downloaded also have minor "skips" in certain places as well (kind of like a CD with a tiny scratch) but this is not as frustrating as the TV shows and movies ... a "skip" here or there is nothing compared to paying $15.99 for a movie you cannot watch!
Edited to add: None of the videos I downloaded before receiving the 8008 error have had any problems since the 8008 error appeared. I can still watch them all just as before. No skipping, no freezing, nothing. It is only videos I've downloaded since then that have had these issues.
Oh, also after the 8008 error, I began seeing a white screen I'd never seen before after turning on my iPod telling me that my iPod needed to be restored. I had never seen such a message before. Again, I followed all of the steps that Apple suggested; it kept happening anyway. I saw this message for about 4 months, but I haven't seen it since.
Currently, I have 31.80 GB free on my iPod. I have never "overloaded" my iPod and have never had less than 20 GB free at a time. I've never dropped my iPod; I keep it in a protected plastic case; I update the iTunes software every time it is available; I am not using Genius; I have never imported a video or a CD that was NOT from iTunes into my library - after my library was erased when I upgraded from the earlier version to the 80 GB model, I didn't feel like uploading my CDs all over again, so this cannot possibly be an issue related to getting a "virus" from downloading movies from the Internet.
Is my iPod corrupted forever? Will it always be a guessing game from now on as to whether a video I've downloaded will be perfectly fine or whether it will skip and freeze and not permit me to watch it? (In which case, iTunes certainly doesn't return money, as the download on their end was "successful.") How do I go about fixing this problem when the iPod - while in perfect condition otherwise because I've kept such good care of it - is no longer under warranty?

Also, if there's a better place to post this question, please let me know how to post it elsewhere. I tried to do so but I suppose I'm not permitted to double post in different forums?
