Ipod Stuck On Language Menu

Ok so i bought an old 4g Ipod U2....
it's new... open box, and i have the apple care warantee and everything
so i'm good for 2 years
i got it yesterday and i can't get it out of the language selection menu....
yes i've tried to reset, restore and everything else said on the forums. does anyone know what is going on?...

If you believe it got wet, which is a problem for iPods, don't try to use it anymore and set it in a cool, dry place for several days. After this connect to to power (a wall charger works best) and charge it for at least 30 minutes, then Reset it (hold the menu and center buttons down for 6 seconds) while it is connected to power. After it comes to life, Restore it in iTunes.

  • IPod stuck at "language menu"

My husband's iPod fell into the hands of our 2 year old, and now will not go past the language menu. It charges just fine when plugged into the computer, but does nothing else. I think that it may have gotten wet with upholstry cleaner (it was on the couch in the spot that I was cleaning when I found it). I cleaned the exterior and set it out of his reach.
Please help if you have any suggestions!
Does water/liquid damage ever dry out, or is this ruined??
    Thank you!

  • Ipod stuck on language selection screen

I have an old 2nd gen ipod nano that i found lying on my desk, so i decided to add songs to it (it's formatted to windows). Since my playlist is sort of small i decided to add songs off of my buddies' laptop, which is a macbook. After selecting all the songs i wish to add to my old ipod, the ipod is stuck on Language Selection and the click wheel refuses to work. Is there anyway to reverse this without having to completely reset the ipod?

    Please don't steal music.
    Cheers!

  • Ipod stuck on language screen

So I just wanted to hook up my new 5g, 30gig Ipod and it is stuck on the language screen where it asks to select a language. I tried pressing the play, center button, even checking the hold button. The ipod is charged what am I missing thanks

Out of curiosity, did either or both of you use the iPod before connecting it to your computer? Or did you just take it out of the box and plug it into your computer when this happened?

  • IPOD Stuck on Language Screen after restoring

My IPOD, a 30GB video IPOD purchased a few years ago, has been getting stuck and not able to go further for the past couple days. I tried all the options and ended up doing a restore - but the restore has caused it to lock on the Language Screen.
I have tried everything - I read online that it may be broken inside but I haven't dropped it or anything and it was working find? Totaly confused and Upset!

See if you can find a find using a Mac computer, and to a Restore there.

    Hi!
My 1st generation ipod nano froze today on the menu.
I've resetted it holding the select and menu button and i've restored it from itunes a few times.
Now it freezes on the language menu. It's like the wheel and select button don t work anymore, though they work when i reset the ipod.
I also reinstalled itunes and updated itunes and the ipod OS.
    Same issue.
    Anyone has an idea?

  • My iPod is stuck on Language Selection screen

My iPod Nano 7th generation is stuck on language selection screen. Language can be selected but "Done" button cannot be pressed.

Sounds like a hardware malfunction with the device.  Could be the clickwheel itself or the logicboard.  Either way, you'll need to send your iPod in for service if you want to be able to use it again.

  • Nano stuck at Language setting menu

No luck with the 5 Rs, or restoring, or holding the menu and select buttons down. Nano stays on the Language menu and all buttons are unresponsive. Putting on Hold then taking off Hold does activate the display, but then no buttons or wheel actions work. Help please.

In some cases, the iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained before it can be reset so try these steps.
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or the computer and reset it.

  • IPod won't turn on, won't turn off and gets frozen on language menu!!!

I have reset my iPod by toggling the Hold switch then holding down the Menu & Select buttons simultaneously for several seconds multiple times....
Now, when my iPod is NOT plugged into the USB connector it will not turn on or do anything. If I toggle the Hold switch to lock then back to unlock, the iPod resets...the apple logo appears then the language menu appears. The iPod "freezes" on the language menu and the click wheel will not turn or make any noise.
And when my iPod IS plugged up to my computer via the USB connector, the iPod cuts on, syncs with iTunes, then goes to the language menu where it becomes "frozen." If I toggle the Hold switch, it "resets" the iPod by showing the apple logo followed by the "Do not Disconnect" icon because it is syncing the iPod again, then goes back to the language menu and "freezes."
Please help! I have restored my iPod twice and checked for new updates, and I cannot get it to do anything...just stays hung up.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem, and tried everything to sort it. I've reset 10 times at a time, I've restored on 4 occasions and re formatted the hard drive. It syncs with the computer without any problems, but the dial just won't work.
Have you managed to do anything with it, or are you still locked? If so, what did you do?
Does anyone else have any ideas on what to do?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • IPod Stuck on Reset

My iPod wouldn't turn this morning so I plugged it into the charger. Nothing happened (the screen didn't turn on). Later today I reset it and the Apple icon screen came up and sat there for several hours. It appeared to be out of power and when I tried to reset it again it would give the Apple icon and then the out of power icon. I just now plugged it into my computer with iTunes on. It gave the charging icon and then switched back to a lit up Apple icon. It does not show up in the source list for iTunes and unplugging it from my computer does not change the icon. All lights on the diagnostic are green except for the iPod being hooked up to the computer, though my computer recognizes the connection and disconnect of new hardware.
    Suggestions?

Since the release and update of iTunes 7, I have not faced any problem, but I heard a lot of articles from this forum about the errors 1417, 1418, 1428 and 50 etc. I could not make any suggestion and find a solution about it, all I could do is to copy some threads from some successful cases mentioned on this forum.
Until yesterday, I finally received a 4th Gen 20GB iPod (around 2 years old)from a friend and asked me whether I could fix it for him, which has been left untouched as a paper-weight for almost 2 months.
I tried to turn it on, and the screen was completed blank and the device looked dead. Before doing anything I prepared the following:-
    1. A window based PC
    2. A Mac computer
    3. An USB iPod cable
    4. A Firewire iPod cable
    5. An iPod AC charger
As the iPod was previously formatted on a PC, therefore I tried to plug it with a PC via USB cable, it did not response and not able to get recognized by the PC. I ejected the iPod and connected with an AC charger, after a few minutes, I did a Reset for the iPod
    How to reset iPod
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
The iPod showed an Apple sign, it stuck there for almost a minute, the screen then showed a battery with an exclamation mark sign, and after a minute, the iPod turned off itself. I was sure that the iPod carried very low battery, and could not be charged by connecting it with any computer (both Mac and PC).
I decided to let it have a charge with an AC charger for a bit longer, after 10 minute I did the Reset again, this time a sign of folder with exclamation mark showed up after the Apple sign, and again could not get recognized by a computer.
I changed my mind, and put the iPod into disk mode
    Putting iPod into disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Instead of connecting with a PC, I plug it with my Mac using a Firewire cable, it did not response, so I switched the cable to an USB, interestingly, the iPod got recognized and a window pop up indicating that the iPod needed to do a Restore. Therefore I clicked “Restore”, after a few seconds, an Error message pop-up with Error Message 1417, the sign that I have been waiting for quite sometime.
I ejected the iPod and the screen immediately showed a folder exclamation mark (a sign indicating a corrupted or a failure iPod OS). I am forced to put the iPod into disk mode again, connected with the Mac computer and open the Disk Utility
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
It managed to complete the Restore process, and started to sync with the iTunes. However, it got stuck at the song no.238 from the total of 2000. I left it for an hour, but with no process, instead the iPod became “Hot” and the iTunes showed an Error message of 1428. I ejected the iPod from my Mac computer, the iPod’s screen turn to show the famous killer icon;“The Sad iPod“.
This time it was totally dead, even failed to put it into Disk Mode and non of the computer could recognize it. Sigh, I hated to do it but I knew that I must did the following:-
Holding the iPod in my Palm, and hitting it on a surface of a Sofa with 5 attempts.
Did not surprise me, the iPod turned on and it showed the Language Menu on the screen. So, I put it into Disk Mode and connected with my window PC.
The PC showed a sign and indicated that an USB device had been connected with it. I opened the iTunes and did a Restore there.
However, an Error Message 50 showed up, but I were not worried about it, connected it back with my Mac computer with it in Disk Mode. As expected the iTunes opened and allowed me to do a Restore there.
This time it managed to complete the process and a window of register pop up. After the completed the process, the iPod started to sync with the iTunes again, which finally managed to complete the process.
I left it connecting with the AC charger overnight. In the next morning, I switched it on and have a play with it, I am so glad as it is working like a charm.
From the above experience, I would like to share it with the user the following:-
    1. It always better to charge with an ac charger instead of the computer, as when an iPod carrying with very low battery, it may not able to get charge from a computer
    2. Try to connect the iPod with a computer, switching between USB and Firewire
    3. Try to format an iPod with HD problem, with a different kind of computer e.g. Mac or PC, as the formats are totally different, the way it formats may able to solve the bad sectors on the HD
    4. It may get better chance to get your iPod recognized, if you put it in Disk Mode
I hope the following works in your case as I did.

  • 80G Classic Ipod Stuck in Reset Loop, Please Help

    Hello,
My Ipod (80G classic) is stuck in the continuous reset loop showing only the apple logo. I have tried restoring it numerous times, to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling itunes and re-installing it, different versions also, this does not work either.
This is very frustrating, and I am finding no help on the apple site. Any suggestions?

I'm not clear if you've actually managed to get iTunes to restore the iPod yet. These steps should make it possible. Hold Menu+Select for about 6 seconds until the iPod resets, then hold Menu+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Connect the iPod to your computer, closing iTunes if it opens. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors*. Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you should be able to start iTunes and complete the restore process. I'd suggest you don't rush to put back all your music in one go. Test that the iPod works with a smaller playlist first.

  • Stuck on language screen

My ipod is stuck on language screen, (4th.gen 20gig) I left it in a cooler and went swimming in water. It turns on but gets stuck on language screen. I went into itunes and restored it but after plugging into wall it won't get past the language screen. It plays in itunes with songs visible.Would it be the hard drive if still plays in itunes? The motherboard?

Well darn, my daughters ipod does have a color display but is only 2 gigs maybe I'm in the wrong section... the genius at the genius bar called it a nano... whatever that is, but judgeing from the less than polite discussion boards across the internet, this "hold button" issue transends model type. Anyway, here's what I did, maybe ya'll get a chuckle out of it. I carefully removed the cover using a guitar pick, (Remember it's out of warranty so this is a last ditch effort before I chuck it in the fireplace) checked out the switch mechanism that's part of the back cover. It looks OK. Manually moved the actual swith on the PC board to "unlocked" as well as the one on the back cover. Put it all back together, plugged it in to my computer, and much to my surprise (but probably not yours) it's still locked up with the nifty little padlock icon in the upper left hand corner. cool huh?
