IPod Video Charging

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything on-line that addressed this specific question:
I recently upgraded from a Nano to a 30GB iPod Video, and found that it is not recharging when I plug it into a USB 2.0 port on my computer. I have tried other ports, and have the same results. It will charge if I plug it into an iDock or a wall outlet, but not into my computer...with one exception: if I have the iPod configured to update manually, it will recharge. If I have the iPod configured to update automatically, it will not recharge.
Is this by design, or is there something I need to do in order to get it to recharge while it is connected to my PC (and in auto-update mode)?

The USB ports turn off after the iPod ejects after the Auto update is complete.
Using XP you can configure the ports to stay on.
Windows 2000, you cannot.
In manual update, the iPod stays mounted until you Eject is.
Here's a fix for 2K
Open iTunes prefs -> iPod.
Check Enable Disk Use.
It will Auto update and stay connected (and charge) until you Eject the iPod.

  • 5G 60gb ipod video charge time

So, my ipod charges FULLY in about 2 hours. And when I use it, it lasts MAXIMUM 16-17 hours. This sound right to everyone else out there? I previously had a 4G 20gb ipod photo and that lasted 15-16 hours easy, and took the standard 4 hours to charge all the way. Help anyone???

usually with the usb cord to my computer, but also sometimes with the power adapter and a power adapter I use in my car. But they all seemed to work pretty standard with my old ipod.
Plus, my ipod just started a new glitch yesterday now- it doesn't shut off when I unplug headphone or the power supply. Does it just sound like this thing's messed up or what?

  • Corrupted ipod video (30gb)

anyone got any idea what i can do to put more songs on??
    many thanks

I started having the same problem yesterday and today I talked to support on the phone about it. I was told to change the drive letter for my iPod in the Control Panel. If that did not work , I was out of luck and needed to purchase a new iPod (mine is 144 days out of warranty). Well, it did not work for me! ****, ****, ****!!!!!!!!! Anyway, try changing your drive letter in the control panel. Try this link for info on that:

Hope it helps. If not, you should certainly be covered under warranty if you just bought it.

  • 5G Video iPOD stopped charging via USB: can someone help?

I bought 5G video iPOD last month. After about a month of charging via USB 2.0 port on WinXP desktop, iPOD no longer charges with USB port. If I connect it to desktop, it syncs songs and shows its charging but in fact it does not charge. As it can't sleep, its loosing power. If I hook it up in the night, its discharged in the morning.
I tried to charge it in the car (with car charger), iPOD charges fine. I have tried to change ports, tried different computer (laptop) and also sent iPOD for service, NOTHING HELPS!
I sent it for repair to Apple, but i got it back in 1 week saying its is perfect condition and no other details. (Very disappointed with Apple's lack of service)
Right now, I am stuck with iPOD not charging with any USB port. How do I solve this? Can the usb ports suddenly become low powered from high powered? Please advice.

I tried a friend's usb cable and that worked! I was able to charge iPOD thru usb wit it.

  • Syncing/Charging Problem with iPod Video 5G

I am experiencing a problem with my iPod Video 5G. When pressing the center button of the device, the apple logo appears. But before it completely starts up, it dies, leaving the screen with a faint apple logo and some lines. When I plug the iPod into my PC, a screen is displayed saying "Please Wait, Very Low battery." After a while, it restarts, and fully comes on, displaying the "Do Not Remove" screen. But a message shows up saying "No Battery Power Remains. Connect iPod to Computer". However, the battery meter in the top right hand corner shows a a completely charged battery. Also, it starts to beep. The iPod briefly shows up in iTunes, but then it shuts off, displaying a "very low battery" message again, and an error message comes up in iTunes. This whole process keeps repeating over again. This all came up out of no where, as I had used the iPod a few hours before this started. I have no idea what's wrong with it. Could it be the battery? Or the hard drive? I would appreciate any help greatly.

Go to the video settings (iPod nano) and turn off fit to screen.

    absolutely.

  • Charging iPod video

Just purchased a 30G iPod video, along with the universal dock. I didn't buy the USB power adapater, thinking it should work with my USB power adapter for other toys, such as the PDA and the blackberry. Did anyone try to charge the iPod using those 3rd party power adapters?
Can I charge my iPod by using external power adapter while the iPod is sitting in the dock?
    Thanks.

I don't believe you will be able to charge the iPod unless the charger you're using has a connector like this:
How were you planning on hooking the USB cord to the Dock?

  • Need help with ipod video, problems with blinking screen, wont charge

    Hello,
I'm a new owner of an ipod video, and I've had it for not even two weeks and haven't used it but 3 or 4 times, and I went to turn it on and nothing happened, so I figured the battery died. Then I hooked it up to the usb and computer (windows xp OS) and nothing except a fast blinking white screen and a low noise, not music though. It wont charge, and I even reinstalled everything and used all the tips online- any words of advice except to take it to an apple store?

Apple decided to hide the user library folder with OS10.7. You can get to it by using the menu.
    Quit Illustrator.
    Method one....
In the Finder choose Go > Go To Folder and type "~/Library" (no quotes) and hit OK.
    Your Library folder will open.
Then navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings
Move that Settings folder to your desktop.
Restart Illustrator and try exporting again.
If it works as expected, you can trash teh Settings folder on your desktop.
Since you're removing preferences, items like Scratch Disk settings will need to be reconfigured in Illustrator if you've altered them from the default settings.
    Second method.....
Hold Command-Option-Shift when you launch Illustrator.
    Preferences will be removed.
You won't get any sort of dialog or window confirming this, it just happens.
    Reason for two methods.
Method one allows you to put the settings folder back if yoru problem is not cured by removing it. It also allows you to move items back to the new Settings folder that is created (like Workspaces).

  • IPod 30g video charger and dock connector question

It's time to get a new iPod, I have an ipod mini for about 2 years. I know the new one does not come with power adapter, can I use the ipod mini power adapter to charge the new ipod? I also want to know if the dock connector is the same because I have ipod adapter installed on my car. Thanks Alex

yes they do. supllied with the ipod video is a dock adapter so i think all you have to do is to take out the mini dock adapter and insert the one provided with ipod video.

  • Ipod video sold without firewire/charger?

have just purchased an ipod video from the new apple center in amman, jordan - am surprised to find it sold without firewire or charger!! bought an ipod mini two years ago with these accessories included
has the policy changed since then?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
New iPods no longer come with chargers.
Also, the 5th generation iPod is not capable of syncing over FireWire, though it can charge through a FireWire cable.

  • Ipod Video not charging!

Hi, i just bought a ipod video 60gb, and it doesn't want to charge, when i plug in the usb port in my computer
the battery is very low, i cant use it, even though ive charged it for more than 6hours!
i need help, please answer ASAP!
    thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Try the steps listed here...
    iPod Doesn't Charge
Also, does anyone you know have a power adapter or an iPod-speaker system that charges iPods? See if your iPod charges when connected to that.
It may be that the USB port on your computer is low-powered. Try one on the back of your computer.

  • Ipod mini charger for 30GB Video?

I had my ipod mini for a long time, then decided to get the 30gb video. But I noticed that the video only comes with the USB cable and I can only charge it when its plugged into a computer.
Would I be able to take my charger for the Ipod mini(the one that has the firewire outlet that plugs into the charger) on my 30gb Ipod video? Would it create any problems with the battery?

Nice nice. Thanks for the help
So just to make things perfectly clear.
USB wire that came with the ipod = Updates + charges.
and the firewire charger block thingy = charges when plugged into a wall socket.
    thank you

Hi! I've just bought a 30GB iPod video. My sister bought one a couple of months ago and received a free plug to put in the charger socket when it's not in use. I didn't and just wondered if this is an old thing or should I have received one?
    Many thanks!

  • My ipod Video won't switch on and always displays the message, "Please Wait Very Little Battery" despite being plugged into the charger.

    Dear Apple Support Communities,
I am writing to inform you I have had my iPod for about 6 years now and it has slowly got to the stage where it no longer turns on. My iPod began freezing every now and then (for a few seconds now) and then this problem escalated to the stage where it began to freeze for days. I am now at the stage where it doesn't switch on at all, in fact everytime I try to switch on my iPod the following message appears on the screen, 'Please Wait, Very Little Battery' despite the fact that the iPod is currently being charged. I haven't used my iPod for months and was wondering if this promblem can be fixed or am I entitled to any upgrades.

Did you try to let it connected to USB for charging for a while before asking it anything. When the battery is deeply drained, it can occur that the iPod displays nothing for half an hour, just charging.
Also, make sure your PC gives sufficient power to the iPod for charging, I let mine once for six hours charging on my work's pc, and it didn't display "charged" message even after the 6H charge.
When an USB device is requiring more power than it can receive from the plug it is in, MacOSX advices it to user, It seems that Windows doesn't.
