Ipod video crashes randomly...

I have a white ipod video 30 gb 5g and I would be playing a song when all of the sudden the screen freezes. The song keeps playing till the end but after that the next song doesnt play it would just freeze everything. Anyone know whats wrong? Every time this happens, I have to restart the ipod (menu+center) but this drains the battery so much..

Yes. I have restored it, restarted it, done everything I could think of and nothing. It seems as if its something else. I'm thinking that it could be the battery giving off different amounts of voltage but I don't know.

  • Ipod video crashes when I attempt to eject after sync (Windows XP)

My ipod video synced perfectly in itunes for first two months. About two weeks ago, however, the ipod started crashing four out of five times when I try to eject it in itunes or stop the disk from Windows' "remove hardware safely" dialog box. It also crashes after syncing automatically when I disable disk use. It syncs all files fine, but when I attempt to eject, it goes directly from "Do not disconnect" to the apple logo, with the backlight flashing on and off periodically. At that point it will not reset, and I have to go into disk mode and restore it to get the ipod to show a menu again. I've restored it now about 10 times, and have reinstalled itunes but am still experiencing the same problem.
    Please help!

If you're running iTunes 6.0.5, I would need the crash log to figure out why you're crashing.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to me. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread because I get a lot of these messages and are easily confused.

  • IPod Video Crashes my PPC G5

I just downloaded and paid for the What Kate Did episode of Lost, and when I try and update my video iPod manually either by dragging the file in finder or within iTunes my system locks up and tells me to restart. this happens consistently. does anyone have this same problem and if so what do I do about it.

this sounds like a kernel panic, and i have experienced a few recently too on my G5. check the panic logs in console. i'm guessing you have a USB driver conflict.
which USB port are you connecting to? make sure it is a USB 2 port and not one out of your keyboard or such which doesn't have enough power for the ipod. secondly, how many devices are connected via usb? try restarting with only your keyboard and mouse plugged in, and add you devices one by one until you crash again. then depending on which usb port it is, you can determine what the problem is caused by.
    hope this helps

  • IPod Classic Crashes randomly with ntdll.dll error

Sometimes when I plug-in my 120GB iPod Classic, iTunes would crash, giving me a ntdll.dll error, and I would need to unplug my iPod classic before it would allow iTunes to start again. Upon disconnect, the iPod will try to restart and then it would unsuccessfully do so, and then it would reboot and tell me to restore via iTunes. After I plug it back in, the iPod would restore fine. It seems that if I don't sync my iPod for a couple of days, the possibility of this error happening is most likely, versus if I plugged it in consistently every day.
I have had this issue for quite a while here are the steps that I've taken to try to mediate this issue:
-Switched iPod twice with Apple Store
-Tried the sync on two different computers with completely different hardware (but windows 7 on both)
    -Made a new iTunes library
    -Search the support forums/google
    -Tried various cables
Here is the error logs from the most recent crash:

OK So I sync'd it this afternoon and in the evening, I plugged it in again, and this time it caused iTunes to crash with this error:

  • IPod Video will Randomly turn on and play a certain playlist

My iPod will randomly turn on and play a certain playlist I have. It will also do it in the middle of other playlist or when I'm just playing music. It is always the same playlist and there is no pattern as to when it will do this. Any ideas?

  • IPod video 5th G - Can only load about 15 songs before it crashes and won't allow me to add any more - Is my hard drive broken?

I have an iPod Video, 5th Generation - a few years old aye, but it does the job. Recently it crashed and wouldn't respond at all, I tried the 5 R's and the iPod wouldn't restore at all. Finally I managed to restore it, but then encountered a new problem.
When I try to put new music onto the iPod the maximum I can really add is about 15/16 songs (currently sitting about 112 MB). I can use the iPod just fine with this on it, but I can't add any songs or anything past this limit. I can take songs off and add new ones on, but again cannot pas this limit.
It is a 30GB hard drive, so I should be able to load near enough 30GB onto it.
Whenever I try to pass the limit and add new songs a message saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "RUSSELL'S I" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).", and then a second message pops up reading "iTunes could not copy "Song" to the iPod because an unknown error occurred (-69)."
Looking to find out, does this mean my Hard Drive is broken/damaged, or could it possibly be a different issue, as buying a new hard drive is reasonably cheap, but if it turns out to be the motherboard or something else then I don't want to have wasted the money buying a new HDD only to find out the problem hasn't been fixed.
Has anyone else had this issue? Or anybody found a way to fix it?
    Cheers
    Russell

See here: iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod
You can use the disk diagnostic tool built into the iPod's firmware to test the health of it's Hard Drive.  See this post from another forum member turingtest2 on how to do this as well as what the resulting numbers mean.

  • Converting QuickTime Videos For iPod, iTunes Crashes on Windows

I was trying to convert some Quick Time movies (RvB Seasons 1-3) for my iPod, this is not my first time doing this but this is the first time I am having this problem. One day I open iTunes and try to convert these movies, like 10 seconds later the windows thing comes up and says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close” in the technical stuff it gave me it pointed to quicktimeessentials.qtx as the problem. So I searched for this file and deleted it Problem Solved! Or at least I though so when iTunes was able to convert my videos but now no Quick Time video will play right, so then I put the Quick Time file back where it was supposed to be, I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing. Somebody Please Help!
    HP Pavilion zd8000   Windows XP

    hiya!
I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing.
just checking. is it currently crashing with that message when you try to launch itunes, or just when you try to convert those videos?
if it's just when you convert those videos, let's check to see if it's a problem with every file, or just the ones you have at the moment. will itunes crash if you try converting the sample file from this document?

  • Firefox crashed randomly when loading a youtube video, and after restarting firefox no flash programs would work on the browser

I was watching a youtube video.
    Firefox crashes randomly.
    Restart Firefox
    Youtube videos don't load.
Other websites that uses flash don't load.
Tried upgrading to a newer flash, though 11.3 causes huge CPU usage for some reason so I upgraded to 11.2
    Videos still do not load.

    Hi,
You can try to [http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html uninstall] and install Flash again. If the problem persists you can also temporarily '''Disable''' Flash in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Plugins''' and try the [https://www.youtube.com/html5 HTML5 videos] wherever possible. Most of the videos without embedded ads have HTML5 equivalents. You can also try to open the problematic sites in [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-tab-plus/ IE Tab +] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-tab/ IE Tab] inside Firefox.

  • 30gb ipod video keeps on crashing

I just got my ipod video 3 days ago and I keep on having a problem where it will play a video for variable amounts of time and just all of the sudden crash. After this, when I push a button it will restart back up with the apple icon. I've read quite a few posts with people having the same problem but there hasn't been a good solution as of yet. I've tried firmware versions 1.1 and 1.1.1 with no success. I don't think that this is the same problem with a video playing for 30 seconds and then the video and audio stops. The ipod will also sometimes just crash when I'm using the menu or when I'm playing songs.
This has really been frustrating me. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Video iPod keeps crashing since latest firmware update

This has happened to me several times since the last update. Playing certain podcasts will cause the ipod to crash and reboot. Worst case was today. I had 4 unplayed episodes of the podcast 'Universe Today'. I clicked on one, the iPod crashed, rebooted and when I went back to that podcast directory 3 of the 4 episodes were gone (no longer listed) and the 4th was an empty file. All episodes play properly in iTunes. Very frustrating! Since I don't play games on my iPod, I guess the next step is to restore it to a previous rev.

    Hello there Xpectro,
Thank you for asking your question. It sounds like after you upgraded to Mavericks the computer started quitting unexpectedly. I would start by checking the disk for errors with the Disk Utility and repairing any that are found.
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836
If the issue persists or the no errors are found I would try resetting the SMC and performing a Safe Boot in that order.

The instructions are different depending on the type of MacBook Pro you have.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
    Starting up in Safe Mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • Ipod is resetting randomly

i have a 120GB ipod classic that will reset itself while playing songs. it stops playing the music and reverts to the screen with the apple logo showing. no songs are lost, battery life is not affected at all, and nothing seems to change. but i can't get through a 20 song playlist without it resetting. any ideas?

Random resets may be a function of the size & complexity of smart playlists. When I first got my 160Gb Classic it was large enough to hold my entire library including all its playlists. At some point I noticed that my iPod would crash when I played games or used certain functions. I also had problems restoring the iPod as it would often fail when I tried to put back all the data in one hit. To solve the second problem I hit upon this method for restoring the data.
    <hr>
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music or whatever playlist holds the bulk of the content you want on your device. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.
    <hr>
At some pointed I noticed that my newly restored iPod containing only my media selections, but none of my many live updating smart playlists like *Top Rated*, *Recently Played* etc. was nice and stable. It only returned to the problem behaviour after I'd put these back on. I never tracked down anything specific such as "it happens when A depends on B which depends on C" but rationing the playlists that I put on the device seemed to help. My guess is that the iPod has a limited amount of RAM to store temporary data such as the cached portions of the currently playing file, recently displayed artwork images and playlists. Under certain circumstances the RAM fills up and triggers a crash. Keeping fewer, simpler playlists on the device seems to help...

  • Help - I have two faulty 60GB iPod Videos

Hopefully someone here can offer some guidance. I have two 60GB iPod Videos (mine and the wife's) which are both two or three years old. Both of them are playing up. Mine freezes and crashes constantly. It starts with random blocks and dots, artifacts and graphical gliches appearing on screen as I navigate (everytime the week clicks the "pattern" changes) and then it will freeze and crash. I then have to do a reboot and then when it comes back on it is okay for a while, it may even play a whole album. Then I start it out of hibernation the next day and it happens again. Apart from that it is okay and it charges, connects to iTunes, etc. I am okay with opening it up to check it out. Anyone know what I have to replace to repair it?
My wife's iPod is something else. It had been missing for a month or so and then we found it at the back of a drawer. It was dead so I charged it, however, once it got passed the "the battery is extremely low" message and booted up proper it then froze my PC and stopped charging. My PC screen froze and only started working again when I disconnected it. I tried charging it on my laptop and the same thing happened - it froze the screen on the laptop. Finally I tried charging it through a wall plug adaptor and again it would not charge it past the low battery message. It works, but literally only for a few songs before the small charge on the battery runs out. Again, anyone know what is required to repair this problem?
I was thinking of either buying a faulty ipod off ebay and try to salvage parts to repair one or both of the above, or just using one to repair the other.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried restoring them to factory settings through itunes? Sounds like from your psot that you've reset them, but not restored them.
    Good luck!

  • Ipod video is skipping songs

    Hi there!
I have had my ipod video for months now. Previously, I could choose "shuffle songs" from the main menu and just listen to my 3,000+ songs in random order.
I rebuilt my computer a month or so ago, and reinstalled the ipod software and itunes. When I did so, I had to completely re-synch all the stuff in my itunes with my ipod.
And the phenomenon I'm experiencing now is that when I do "shuffle songs," it skips songs. It will show the artist and title for a second, then show another artist and title for a second, then finally play the third song. (it's not always the third song--it's random). I have tried going to the song that was skipped directly through the artist's folder, but it still won't play. On my desktop computer (windows, by the way), I can go to that song, and it plays fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for your help...
    Susan

I had to completely start over with all my itunes stuff when my computer crashed a few months ago and that's pretty much like what you've had to do with your computer. The same thing happended to me, a lot of the songs started top skip over - there's two reasons for this(there could be more, but these are the two that I know of!)Firstly - do all your songs play in yout itunes libery??? If the songs that are skipping over don't play, the computer can't locate them(this is probably because you've had to re-build your computer - this can cause itunes to become confuesd as to the location of the songs - make sure your libery has the correct destination for all your music) and thus they won't play in the ipod.
And Secondly, If they do still play in itunes it sounds like you may have a hardware problem - that's what I had.I had to get a brand new one as a result!) The best way to try and fix this is to completely restore the ipod so that it's back to the original settings and then sync the ipod again.
That should fix your problem. If you end up having no luck with that chances are the problem really is your ipod(the hardware) and I'd send it back to be replaced. Hope this hepls you in some way!
