IPod won't start after restore

When I got a new iPod touch 4G, I tried to restore it from a previous backup that I had on my computer. Unfortunately when the iPod was finished restoring, it wouldn't start up! All I got was the screen frozen at the Apple logo with an empty loading bar. I've tried everything from a hard reset, to moving the backup, but it just won't work. When it was synced to my computer (the only time it actually read the device without having to put it in recovery mode), it showed that it had all of the data on it on the summary page. However, the data was not broken up into music, apps, photos, videos, etc. It was only listed as other. I really don't want to lose my data, so I was wondering if there's any way to get the iPod to start with the backup still on it. I had restored to factory settings, and it worked fine, but I'd hate to lose two years worth of data. Neither the computer nor iTunes detected a corrupted file, and a computer system scan did not show anything either, so I'm not sure what the problem is. This has been going on for about a month, and any help would be truly appreciated.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

It is very ikely that there is no way to recover any data from the iPod

  • IPod won't sync after restore - Please Help!!!

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my posting.
I have a 3rd Gen 40gb iPod which was running the 2.2 firmware on Windows XP, which has been fine up until recently. The songs started to randomly skip during playback; this went on for a few weeks. So I decided to restore/reformat the iPod using the iPod updater software and this is where the problem started.
I downloaded the most up to date updater from Apple and updated the firmware to version 2.3. However when I came to sync my iPod with iTunes (ver 6) it would start transferring tracks and get about 5 or 6 on there and then it would hang and not transfer anymore and my iPod would just say Do not disconnect. This happened about 3 or 4 times. I decided to restore the firmware on my iPod to 2.2 using an older updater and now iTunes won’t see / sync my iPod at all…
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or what I should do to sort the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I would suggest that you go to firmware version 2.3 again (as opposed to 2.2), as this may be why iTunes isn't recognizing it now.
But, I understand that after you restored your iPod (with the 2.3 version), iTunes would bog up after updating only a few songs.
I think it's probably better to have 2.3 instead of 2.2. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter when you connect it.
Log off of any other users on your computer.
Then, connect your iPod. When you connect your iPod, press and hold the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys for about 20-30 seconds. This will prevent automatic-syncing from happening in iTunes.
After you've stopped automatic-update setting, assign your iPod a different drive letter (see below):
1 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
2 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
3 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

If you need any additional help on how to follow these steps, post back with the details of your issue, and I'd be glad to try to help.

  • IMacs won't start after restore

I have a lab of 40 iMacs with different accounts and permissions for each class I teach. At the end of each term I restore all the Macs from one Mac that I keep clean and updated just the way I want it. This way I can start clean. The process has worked well until this term. With the new upgrade, I have a few computers that won't restart after a restore. I've tried again and they seem to be restored using disk restore, but stall out on a screen with an Apple. I get no clock like spin. A few have worked the second time.
I've checked the drive with disk utility on the CD/DVD and there seems to be no disk problem. Running permissions of the cd/dvd just hangs up.
    Any help will be appreciated.

The Finder won't tell you the status of the clock batteries unless they are completely drained. Partially drained batteries can cause misbehavior like this. You have to open the computer up and remove the clock battery and test it with a battery tester to see they aren't partially drained.

  • IPod won't start after iOS 5.0 failed install

I have an iPod Touch, 4th generation (4.3.5, not jailbroken), and an ASUS laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. Around noon today, I downloaded the iOS 5.0 upgrade and attempted to install it. I got an error 3200 from iTunes, so I Googled on the matter. I found a result on a forum saying to just try again every few minutes, so I tried again, and a third time, after which I no longer received the error. After much waiting, it had finally wiped the iPod clean.
I then got an error 1602; after clicking okay, the iPod was in recovery mode (I think? It has the adapter + iTunes logo on the screen...), and it did not show up on my iTunes sidebar (as in, I couldn't access its interface to sync/update/transfer/etc.). I noticed then that Windows didn't recognize it either, as it usually does. Unplugging/plugging it in produces the little chime to let you know it's there, but it is not listed as a device.
I restarted my computer (no luck), reinstalled the driver software (luck failed once more), reinstalled iTunes and all of the Apple suite, including the Mobile Device manager, and am still pulling my hair out over this.
I did perform a full backup and purchase transfer from the beginning so I hope I haven't lost anything.
So here's what I need to do:
    1) Get iTunes/Windows to recognize the device.
    2) Restore the iPod.
    3) Get iOS 5.0 on it.
Any ideas on where to start?

I have the same problem and read where one person turned off ICloud.  I do not have I Cloud activated so I went ahead and turned off WiFi.  Now it is syncing.
It used to not get past Step 1 of Syncing and it would say "Fail to Sync" or something like that.

  • IPod won't sync after restore - now iTunes freezes up and iPod is empty

Two days ago my iPod started acting up - playing a song for about the first 10 seconds, then freezing up. I did the 5 R's - many, many resets, switching the USB port, reinstalling the software, and several restore attempts. The new and more pressing issue now is that, after a restore attempt, the iPod syncs to about song #50 (of about 1500) and then iTunes freezes up. Because of the restore, the iPod is now empty...no tunes...and I can't get it to sync. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I fear this is a glitch with the new update? What is the solution here?

I am having similar problems. My ipod was working perfectly fine in the morning and then at lunch time it said i needed to "connect to computer source and restore" i didnt have a computer at the time so i waited till i got home. when i got home i let it sit on my computer charging before i did anything. i took it off when it was fully charged and went to go listen to it. i listened to one song and in the middle of the second song, the music started to flicker and skip. i just shut off, when i turned it back on again ALL THE CONTENT ON MY IPOD HAD JUST DISSAPEARED. i was so angry and ive been calling around, reading the internet site pages and trying all that i can to fix this **** of a problem but nothing works. HELP ME PLEASE!!

  • 5th Gen Ipod won't start after setting for a day...

If I let my Ipod sit for more than a day or two after turning it off it will not start up but keeps displaying the folder icon with the support URL.
I try to reset it but it will not reset, it just keeps starting up and displaying the folder and then turns off.
The only way to get it to work is to plug it into an external charger (not my PC) and then it starts up OK.
Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is doing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

  • IPod won't start after several days with charged battery

I have had this problem since I bought it a year ago. If I don't use my iPod for a few days, when I try to start it - nothing happens. When I hook it up to my computer, the Apple logo appears on the iPod screen, then everything appears normal. If I disconnect the iPod after the "initialization" period with the Apple logo, I see that the battery actually has charge, and usually plenty of it. It's as if the iPod puts itself into a sleep mode that can only be awoken by a brief power source connection. Is this common? Is there a way to avoid this period of "sleep"? Thanks.

read the following to understand the various "sleep" states:

  • IPod won't start after hard reset - help appreciated

I had a problem with syncing my iPod with iTunes. I connected and it strated syncing alright. After a couple of seconds everything froze. Smart as I am I thought there might be some errors on any of my disks the syncing process is reading from. Couldn't find anyhting though. My secodn guess would that I just bought a new external hard drive to which I transferred my library (maybe the iPod didn't knwo where to look).
So my best guess was to perform a hard reset and re-sync everything. So I hooked up the iPod and quickly pressed the stop syncing button before nayhting could freeze. That worked well. You probably can guess what happened when performed the hard reset.....everything froze. And now.....my iPod is trying to restart, but at a certain point I hear the drive disconnect and starting up again. This keeps repeating over and over again. Hooking it up to my macbook has no avail. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod won't sync after restoring it

ok, I just left the apple store & my Ipod touch was in recovery mode, the guy "restored" it, told me to go home & that all I had to do was hook it back up & it would charge & sync all at ther same time, it acts like it's syncing, then it pops up & says " Ipod cannot be synced, need required disk " what disk are they talking about ? Many thanks in advance, & yes, I am a rookie here...

I did the hdsmartdata test on the ipod classic and got "[can't open device]." Does this mean the HD is dead?

  • IPhone 5 won't start after restore

    Hi there.
Ok, so this is really crap.
I have a shiny new Iphone 5.  I have an old 3gs, on ios6.  I am attempting to start the phone from an icloud restore.
The download seemed to be fine, but on restarting the progress bar didn't get half way before stopping - for 5 minutes.
So i restarted the phone but now it doesn't get beyond about 10% of the way across.
    What an AWESOME phone!!!
    Any ideas?

    Try to follow Blaze6377 first.
If it doesn't solve your problem.
Here is what I did and it SOLVED! for my iPhone 5:
    1. Close iTunes and reopen your iTunes program again.
    2. Plug in your iPhone 5 with your computer.
    3. Press Power button and Home button together again.
    4. This time iTunes will show iPhone 5 will be in recovery mode. Just close the pop up messege in iTunes.
    5. My iPhone's screen shows to plug in cable with iTunes. I just remove the cable out from my iPhone instead.
    6. Press and hold Power button and Home button together again. It will shows Apple logo first, then disapear, then it shows Apple logo again. At this point, release both buttons.
Under the Apple logo, it will show grey bar (like computer boot up). Just wait and then Voila!. My iPhone came back to normal again.
I did the above processes because I try to avoid from Restore to factory setting.
I hope this help and work with your iPhone as well.
    Have a good one!

  • Won't start after restoring! HELP!

I have just restored my iphone 3gs on o2 back to its normal settings, i did this through itunes on my laptop. I turned my iphone back on and its given me the usual questions to activate it, but when it tries to activate the iphone, it just says 'your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or again in a couple of minutes.' But i have done both of these several times and nothings working, any ideas?!
Also, when the phone is plugged into itunes, the itunes just says 'there is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate. Please disconnect and insert a SIM card in the iphone'. The phone aleady had an o2 SIM card in!!!

Was this phone previously hacked to unlock and was previously carrier locked to other than O2?   Was it hacked in any way?
