Ipod wont respond to computer

Here's the situation:
When I plug my ipod fifth gen into my computer, nothing happens. I have a 2.0 USB port but it's not anything new. It used to work but recently it just stopped. When I plug it into the slower USB port, it all seems to respond but I have had problmes with that port in the past. I don't think it's a problem with the actual port because the mouse is plugged into it. Please help me out.

Plug it into the 2.0 port, wait a few moments, and reset the ipod while it is connected to the computer. If no response, leave ipod connected about 10 minutes and try to reset it again. You may want to try the reset a few times.
Reset the ipod:

  • New Ipod Not Responding To Computer

First of all, this is one of the original Nanos. 2 GB White. The computer, nor the ipod is responding when I plug it into the USB port on the lap-top. The Ipod won't even turn on at all but the black apple logo was on for a few minutes. Please Help!

Try resetting your iPod: hold the "Menu" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds. This is best done while the iPod is connected to a power source.

  • Ipod wont respond

The click wheel on my ipod mini wont respond at all. I cant reset it or do anything using the click wheel. I have tried updating my software and even completly restoring the ipod to no effect. I have no idea what could be wrong with it please help.

make sure the hold button isn't on, and then hold the centre button and menu button down until you see the apple logo. if that fails, use the hold switch and flick it on and off until the apple logo appears.

  • Ipod Wont Respond! Help!

Ive had my Ipod since last christmas, so almost a year. my warranty is about to expire too..anyway. I was listening to my music as usual and i was using shuffle. I pressed >> so i could skip some songs, then my ipod stpped playing my songs (showing the song on screen, but then just went to the next, paused, went ot the next without playing) it then just shut off and it wont turn back on. I was on half battery and i really dont knwo what to do. the hold button was off, i tried to chrage but it wont respond, help!

On December 20th 2005 my iPod Clickwheel [4th Gen] (40G) failed, the built-in self-diagnostic routines telling me that there was a hard disk failure. I called Apple and was informed that I would have to pay £169 to get the device “repaired” (actually what I would be doing is purchasing a refurbished iPod). £169 is 61.5% of the price I paid the AppleStore in September 2004, some 15 months earlier.
In speaking to customer relations, I pointed out that I have purchased lots of other hardware and software all from the AppleStore over the past two years including three Macs each with AppleCare plans and I’ve been a .Mac member since its inception. None of this made any difference.
Macintouch have completed surveys that make it clear that, in their own words, “. . . the iPod 40G ClickWheel is a lemon”

  • Ipod wont sync to computer or itunes

hi, i havea 5g video ipod and a macbook with 10.4.8 mac os on it. i had enabled disk use on my ipod to place notes on it and now my ipod wont appear on my computer at all. this had already happened once and i reinstalled itunes and it fixed the problem. i tried that again and it wont work. i have all my music backed up so im not worried about losing anything, so i would like to restore my ipod. however, looking at the instructions on how to restore the ipod, it says that i have to sync with itunes but i cant do that. anyone know how i can restore my ipod without syncing to my computer? or if anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this problem. thanks!

  • Ipod wont charge with computer

    Ipod wont work

    Does iTunes see the iPod?
    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod Wont Respond in windows after disco

I recently had my Ipod plugged into my Windows XP box. As I was transfering files from the harddrive to the PCs harddrive via windows explorer, my 1 y/o came and forcibly disconnected the Ipod from the computer. Naturally, all the transfered were disrupted. However, now when I plug in the ipod into the computer, My Computer registers the removable harddrive, but not the ipod (when the ipod is plugged, it displays Ipod, but when I disco it thru iTunes, it just says Removable Harddrive, in My Computer)
Since the Ipod portion of the harddrive isnt being seen, I cant see it in iTunes either. Whats worse, is I cant access any of the files on the harddrive of the Ipod (It hangs when I try to open it or right-click it)
    Any thought people? Thanks!

Same kinda thing happened to my ipod except it was
the 1st time I conected so I never finished instaling
the ipod. Windows is just saying "USB Devise Not
Recognized" Anyone know if and how I can fix this? or
do I need to take it somewhere to be fixed?
I went through the same **** just the other night. In my enthusiasm to get my Ipod video up and running, I plugged in my Ipod BEFORE I installed the software- even though the disc has a very clear sticker stating "Install software before connecting Ipod". I have no patience.
So then I got the USB Device Not Recognized message after the install. ARRGH!! After hours of trying to find drivers, software updates, fully charging the ipod, etc, here's what I did:
I reset the Ipod (connect ipod to computer, set Hold switch to Hold, then turn it off again, press and hold the Center and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears). It worked! I was able to complete the install because suddenly Windows recognized the Ipod device.
The quick start manual indicates that you should reset the Ipod if the Ipod isn't responding, NOT if Windows isn't recognizing it. They should update their troubleshooting portion of the quick start guide. Hope this helps!

  • Ipod wont respond in any way shape or form

I have the 1st generation Ipod touch but it has softwares updates, the latest until th point that i couldnt not update no more. if im not incorrect its the 3.1.2? maybe im not sure anyways. The other day i had it at under 20% when i needed to do somethng urgent on it and then it shut off(because of low battery) then i tried to turn it on again and opened Safari before it completely died again. The next morning i plugged it in and it just went to the black screen with the Gray Apple Logo on it and then it just turned off again, not showing the normal Battery charging picture or anything. I tried everything and nothing worked, switched the cables, tried charging it with my Xbox, another Computer messed with the only two buttons that are available and nothing helped. Today the situation worsened as now it wont even turn to the black screen with gray Apple logo. How can i possibly fix this by myself? Any sugestions? I would truely truely truely truely appreiated it if you some way to fix this. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Well my friend im sure this is the answer you wanted but, I think that it has died. You can try to take it to the genius bar but i think they will tell you the same thing. Technology ages. The processor built in wasnt designed to proccess iOS 3.x.x or above. It dosent have enough power to do so and it can overload and die.
