IRM - Synchronization (IRM desktop with IRM server)

I have the following question regarding IRM:
Failure to synchronize with the main server after the time interval identified by the administrator for the document must result in the inability of user to access the document until a successful connection with the document is successfully established
Is this supported? I couldn't find any information about connection failure

Yes, that's how it works. When an IRM Desktop retrieves the rights to a context (also known as a License), the license is issued with a certain valid time window. This is the total window for which it is valid. If the IRM Desktop fails to connect to the server within that time, the license will expire and access to any documents sealed to that context will cease immediately (any open documents will be closed there and then). Once the IRM Desktop synchronizes with the server, a new license is retrieved and your rights are reactivated.
Now this would be very tedious if you had to wait for license to expire before renewing it. So we also give you the ability to schedule synchronisations independently of the license lifetime. So now we are dealing with two time intervals:
1. The lifetime allowed by the administrator for an end-user to be able to use documents without synchronisation (what we call offline usage).
2. The synchronisation interval.
One typical combination of intervals is a 3-day lifetime with daily synchronisation. This means that provided your end-user has been on the network on a Friday, they can continue to use sealed documents over the weekend, thus guaranteeing access to necessary documentation (quite common with board members etc).
The schedules are set on the IRM Server via the Enterprise Manage Control Console. See Section 9.3 Configuring Oracle IRM of the Administrator's Guide for Oracle IRM Server which is here:

  • How do I switch remote desktops with lion server screen sharing?

    When I sometimes use the Lion Server screen sharing feature to take over my iMac using my Macbook, I find that I'm not able to switch desktops on the remote computer, i.e. using the three finger swipe.
    Both are running the latest versions of Lion Server.
    Now there MUST be some way to do that right?

    Hi John, perhaps I did not express myself clearly.
    My desktop iMac is set up with multiple desktops (desktop 1 for system stuff, desktop 2 for mail, messages, skype etc, desktop 3 for Safari and desktop 4 for text proessing, VM-Ware and other work).
    When I work on that machine I'm logged in as one user and use the three finger swipe left and right or the Cmd-1 thru Cmd-4 keys to switch between those desktops.
    I haven't founf how to do that from my a remotely connected MacBook Pro.
    Both of which are running Mountain Lion in the mean time. The iMac runs Mountain Lion Server and the MBP has ML Server installed as well, but nut implemented. Just to be able to use the remote screen...
    Hope this makes my question a bit mre clear...

    No. Check-in contacts the server and tells it which rights you wish to check back into the server. Then it removes those rights from your end-user's IRM Desktop offline database. Synchronization asks the server for your end-user's rights. It receives those rights, checking them out of the server in the process, and stores them in your offline database.
    So synchronization checks out rights from the server where check-in puts them back into the server.

    There is a server synchronization schedule which you can set. The IRM Desktop receives the schedule whenever it contacts the server (not sure if this is at synchronization only or validation as well).

    Per my response earlier, obviously it is. With check-in first, you end up with rights. With check-in last, you have no rights.
    Synchronization keeps an individual's rights up to date on their machine. Check-in is usually only used when an individual wishes to switch to another machine. By default, the server only allows a user to have the rights checked out to one machine. Therefore, if the user wants to switch to another machine, s/he has to check in their rights on the old machine before obtaining their rights on the new machine. If s/he does not do this, then they will fail to obtain rights on the new machine and IRM will tell the user that the rights are in use on the other machine.
    You can raise the default number of devices for your end-users. With a 10g server the Device Limit was per user. In 11g, the Device Limit is server-wide instead. We strongly recommend that you restrict the device limit to a sensible number. The maximum you can set is 20, but we always recommend keeping it to below 5 if possible.
    Now - important question - why are you using 11.1.11.9? That is a very old version. There have been many fixes since then.

  • Oracle IRM Desktop connection to server times out

    I have installed IRM server on Linux VM and use https to make desktop client to connect to server. The desktop is running on Windows XP. I am getting connection time out very frequently when I refresh context or validate the server, which means the connectivity between desktop to server is not stable. It is very difficult to track down the root cause since there is no log for desktop client I can look at.
    Any input?

    I have the same problem. Ping works fine(http://irmserver:16100/irm_desktop/ping). There are connections both on server and on the desktop (netstat shows it). In logs on the desktop there are:

    On server side there is no information in the server logs.
    I am using IRM server - Oracle EL 4 x64, Oracle DB 11G x64, Oracle WL1034, irm server 11.1.1.4.0, irm desktop 11.1.20.86. Desktop on Windows XP Professional.
    There is no proxy server between irm server and desktop
    Although I found that the syncronization works after 2-3 attempts. It seems that the problem is in the short timeout of the irm desktop waitong for authorization when there are different platforms(Weblogic on linux and AD on MS)

  • All sub-folders in Mac Mail cannot synchronize with Exchange Server 2010

    All sub-folders under Inbox in Mac Mail cannot be synchronized with Exchange Server 2010. There are 2GB messages size in Inbox folder and 500MB messages size under Inbox's sub-folders. All messages can be sent out and received and it can work in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 normally. However, all messages in sub-folders cannot be synchronized (empty sub-folders).
    Does this problem relate to message synchronization order of Mac Mail with Exchange Server? Do all sub-folders messages be synchronized after synchronization complete of Inbox? The synchronization of sub-folders will not happen if the synchronization of Inbox does not complete, doesn't it?
    All messages synchronization is over internet. Can anybody help?

    1.please check the mailbox send and receive quota for exchange 2013 migrated mailbox.
    2.Please check the email attributes of the exchange 2013 migrated mailbox because it seems to be a problem with that particular mailbox.
    3.Then do the message tracking and that would be the only way to find the where the send messages has gone.
    4.Please check and confirm you have an enough space on the disk where exchange queue database is residing.
    I think I need to create a receive connector in the 2013 to receive from 2010 ?
    No need ,by design  exchange 2013 cas server default frontend receive connector will be having an
    entire ipv4 and ipv6 segment and anonymous connection is checked by default.
    I think I also need to create a send and receive connector for 2013 users to each other?
    No need , an intra organisation send connector and the default receive connectors in exchange will be used
    for internal mail flow between the exchange 2013 users.
    Please reply me if you have any queries .

  • If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?

    I have several friends and family who are looking for a central place to access information from ( Pictures, home movies etc ).  So I am considering setting up an OSX Lion Server.  There are some other things I can use it for as well.
    Here is my question:
    If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?  Or would I have to install the Admin software on each?  Do they intend it to be used strictly as one admin to access many clients? 
    I always could set up a network drive so they can log in and just see the folders they have created with space on the server I provide them.  But I want them to be able to log an and actually use it as a Remote Desktop.

    Thanks for the feedback.  I understand that ARD is meant for Remote Administration, but I was not sure if it could be used for my purpose as well.  The reason I was looking to do it this was was because I read several articles online about security and performance issues with setting up VNC and activating screen sharing.  Unless I am misunderstood. 
    As far as people's activities on the server, mostly it is going to be used as a place for them to store their media.  I will only allow own person ( Who I trust and I know wont botch the server ), to run applications.  Everyone else will be restricted to uploading and downloading content to their designated account on the server as well as a community share on the server.

  • Tagging TextFrames With InDesign Server - not showign in desktop?

    Ive come across a weird issue with marking up text frames with InDesign Server (CS3) whilst processing xml rules during an xml import.
    I run the following code on desktop it works fine. When run on server, it works apart from the frames will not highlight when "Show Tagged Frames" is selected.
    (code cut for brevity)..

    As Ive stated, the code is functionally fine on desktop and server, but the tagged frames will not highlight when the document is created on server?
    Ive tried numerous work arounds (placeIntoFrame etc) but to no avail.
    Any ideas, is this a known/expected behaviour?

    After much local experimentation and iteration with Adobe tech support, we have a fix for Problem nr. 1: cannot define the port that works in our environment (IDS CS4 running as a service, Windows 2008 Server).
    Add this parameter to your server startup command line for each instance of InDesign Server you're running:
    -ORBendPoint giop:tcp:<serverIP>:<portNumber>
    where
    <serverIP> is the static IP of the server that is running IDS. Note: The OmniOrb docs imply that you can use the server's domain name here, but that didn't work for us. 127.0.0.1 also did not work. The IP number does work. This might help your Problem nr. 2: wrong IP address in the application IOR if you set it to the IP you want to listen on, but we have no experience with that.
    <portNumber> is the port you want IDS (via OmniOrb) to listen on. If you're running multiple instances as we are, each instance should have its own unique port number.
    I completely agree that, as an enterprise product, IDS's default behavior of boldly going where no one has gone before in your port space at each restart is not the way to play nice in a firewalled, enterprise environment. This should be documented in Adobe's Introduction to InDesign Server in the command line parameter discussions, it would have saved us a lot of time

    Hi, i have a big problem with the  synchronization by Desktop Software (6.1.0.35).
    When I installed DS i set to folder sync photos not as
    ... Documents / BlackBerry / photo (created by default),
    but i chose
    ... Documents / Pictures / Photos from the BlackBerry (created by me).
    Basically now I try to change the import folder of images, but it appears the error that is
    "Can not set a folder to import to a higher level of import folder"
    I tried deleting / Photos from the BlackBerry, and not finding my DS it says:
    "The import folder is not available ... etc.." and tells me to change it or with the button or the Media tab of the Device menu> Options.
    I do it but the message is always the same: "Unable to set a higher level of import folder to import folder"
    I find it an absurd bug and ask to help me solve it. Thanks

    Well folks. I've had enough.
    The 9780 is a great phone, it's easy to use, practical and dependable. However, the Desktop Manager software has been giving me too many sleepless nights. On two occassions I must add: once at the end of last year when I bought it and only managed to solve it by myself after 4 weeks of trawling through online forums, blogs and other BB help sites and the recent one was last week when I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 notebook.
    I know this is not entirely the fault of RIM, Microsoft also has a part to play. But considering the state of technology these days, it shouldn't have to be so difficult. I want a phone and software that makes my life easier and not have to be a slave to it by trying days and nights to solve its problems.
    Hence, I have officially decom my phone and gotten an iPhone 4 instead. The switch ain't that difficult for me as I have always been platform neutral. As long it fits my needs, does it job well and doesn't give me too much headache, I'm cool with it.

    Get server error 404 & can't access Yahoo mail.
    It opens with Explorer & on networked desktop with Mozilla 3.6
    tried all fixes suggested by Support @ Customer Service
    No resolution to the access problem today 4/21/11. Do I reinstall 3.6 & delete 4.0? I understand this access problem is common to 4.0 users.

    I did some additional testing through Proxy 4. All web sites and web pages including secure sites that I tried accessing over the past couple of days all appear to work fine with the exception of the forementioned sites. Access to these specific web pages (which I cannot currently access) are part of our day-to-day business requirements, and therefore will prevent me from using Proxy version 4.0 as our production proxy unless I can figure out why these web pages won't load, and how to fix the problem.
    As an experiment, I tried to access these web pages through Proxy 4 with Mozilla FireFox and Netscape 7. None of these web browsers (including Internet Explorer) will bring up these web pages when going through Proxy 4. But bypassing the proxy or going through our v3.6 proxy works fine for these web pages everytime, and with all browsers. This leads me to believe that this web page access problem is not a browser specific problem, but something in Proxy 4 isn't processing the request to display the page properly.
    As a reference, the web site in question is http://www.sunlife.ca. On the left hand side of the page go to "Sign In" then "Plan Members". Thats where the request hangs through Proxy 4 no matter which browser I use, including Netscape... but works perfectly fine with Proxy v3.6.
    Can someone who is running a version 4 Proxy also please try to access the SunLife Members login page and see if it works or fails for you?

    So I created job in Task Scheduler of Project Server OS, that every day start PowerShell-script:

    I'd like to know if there is a posibility to use variables in the path with File Server Resource Manager if you want to set the quota.
    The path I'd like to use is d:\home\%username%\desktop.

    Can anybody tell me how to carry out synchronization between Lite and Mobile Server via Websphere MQ messaging system? Unfortunately, in our case MQ queues is the only way to communicate between Mobile client and Mobile Server thus we can't use HTTP-connection what Mobile Server supports. Maybe there're some products what can transmit HTTP requests/responses via message queues (tunneling)?
