Is a reboot necessary after updating /etc/services.

We are installing GRC 5.3 on our Solution Manager Box.  We added the backend systems in the /etc/services file.  When trying to create the Jco connections, we are getting the following error:  com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server host failed Connect_PM  TYPE=B MSHOST=sapsandbox3 GROUP=BISANDBOX R3NAME=WBS MSSERV=sapmsWBS PCS=1 LOCATION    CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host with Unicode ERROR       service 'sapmsWBS' unknown TIME        Mon Feb 09 17:20:02 2009 RELEASE     700 COMPONENT   NI (network interface) VERSION     38 RC          -3 MODULE      nixxhsl.cpp LINE        776 DETAIL      NiHsLGetServNo: service name cached as unknown COUNTER     1
Do we need to reboot the server or is there another problem here?
Thanks!

I think it is not necessary to reboot the server for GRC installation.
Rather this problem looks like with the Service file on your host is not Current Version...
Check if you have following entries in your "Services" file.
locate : C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services
sapms???       <port>/tcp
??? here denotes for the name of the system and <port> for the TCP port of the message server.

  • Jumbled text in web interface after updating Web Services / firmware

I got a message on the screen of my Officejet 6700:
    Update Recommended
An update is available for Web Services (ePrint and Apps).
    Do you want to proceed?
I selected Update Now, and it installed fine, or so I thought.
I checked the web interface for the printer, and find there is a bunch of jumbled text, like the code is messed up for the web server.
I had just finished checking the status of ink cartridges (and subsequently replaced one), therefore I fortunately still have the fully functioning webpage open on another machine, so I can tell exactly what the before-and-after is on that one page.
On the Tools > Ink Gauge page, on the good (old) page the table says (title, first row, first column):
    Installed Cartridges
    Color | Magenta | Cyan | Yellow | Black
    Part Number
    Type
    End-of-Warranty Date (Y-M-D)
    First Installation Date (Y-M-D)
    Ink Zone
    USE
    HP
But after updating the software, it says this:
    Print Self Test Page
    L@S#0456 | Number of Logged Events | L@S#0462 | L@S#0552 | L@S#0450
    Accumulated Media Usage
    Date
    L@S#0477
    L@S#0561
    L@S#3345
Also, the "Order Supplies" link, with a popup text of "Order printing supplies"
now says "Ink Cartridge", with a popup text of 'Block unwanted faxes"
And "Print Printer Status Report" now says "L@S#2567".
I went to the support section, and found a firmware update, but upon downloading and running it, upon finding the printer, it says it is already Up-to-date, and won't let me select it to try and re-apply the firmware update (as that's evidently what going through the touchscreen menu has already done).
Do I need to just restore to factory settings? I would think firmware wouldn't be changed by doing that. There isn't an old version of the firmware available on the product support page, to revert to an older version.
Via the printer touchscreen menu, a printed Printer Status Report says the firmware version is MPM3CN1322DR.
How do I force a re-install of the firmware, or get them to fix the firmware that was published on 2013-06-25?
    This question was solved.

    michaelprang,
You are unable to revert back or reinstall the firmware since it has already been downloaded and updated.
Have you attempted to use a different web browser?

  • Display problem after update XP service pack 2

Can anyone advice me on the following :
I installed the XP service 2 (Xp pro) on my Satellite Pro 2100 and ever since I have at the right side of the display a black border that is not used of about 2 cm wide.
I've tried installing the latest nvidia geforce driver but that didn't solve the problem.
Before the update my resolution was put to 1024x768 32 bit colors, but now I can only put it to 969 x 768 ? Never heard of this resolution before but now my screen is no longer jumping from left to right.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks already,
    pLippo

    Hi pLippo,
it seems the display driver is not compatible to the Service Pack 2. I understand your issue in this way, you have this problem after installing the Service Pack and not before.
In my opinion you could download and install the latest display driver from toshiba (https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com) under Support and Download page.
If this doesn't solve the problem you could wait until toshiba releases a new display driver or you uninstall the service pack 2.
    Bye Hans

  • Is a reboot necessary after a kernel upgrade? [SOLVED/Answered =)]

Hey folks, longtime arch user (since ~2006), first time registration/post.
Just a dead-simple question: is it necessary for me to reboot my Arch systems after 'pacman -Syu' kernel upgrades? I've always done it out of sheer habit coming from a WIndows Sysadmin world where every darn update needs a reboot.
    Thanks in advance.

Wow, thanks y'all for the fast replies. Sounds like my instincts were right .
I have to say I'm blown away by the reliability of this Linux distro. Like I implied, my day job has for years required me to interact with Windows client & server OSes on a daily basis, and the level of random issues/headaches that crop up in that ecosystem is rather astounding. In contrast, I've had as of yet zero problems with my 2 Arch servers. I've had the same essential configs since the first installations of them years ago, and barring a couple reinstalls due to hard drive failures they've been smooth as silk the whole time. Kudos to that.

  • Ipod rebooting during/after update

My 30g video iPod is rebooting during or after I attempt to update. Nothing is saving to the iPod during these updates. I have done the 5 Rs, reformatted my iPod, as something was horribly corrupt. Now I have this new problem. I am at a complete loss as to what else to do to stop this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem (the iPod kept rebooting after being ejected) and I went to the Apple store in Toronto to see if I was doing something wrong.
The girl told me to send it back again to Apple... this only after I had just got it back from Apple the same week; they aslo said there was nothing wrong even though, and that it was my computer(s), despite the fact that the behavior was exactly the same thing again on multiple computers.
It would only stop rebooting if I set it to disk mode while connected then restored the iPod (thus erasing all my files...).
I'm going to send it back again and see what they say...

  • IPad keeps rebooting itself after updating to iOS 8.3

Just updated an iPad 3 to iOS 8.3 from iOS 8.2 .  Update took a while to install (over 20 minutes) and then the Apple logo appeared for a bit then the screen went black for about 10  minutes.  The device was fine for a while and then started rebooting itself, hung on the Apple logo for about 10 minutes and now suddenly it came back.  All apps were up to date.  The device had not had any issues prior to the update.  Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!

No, this is definitely an iOS 8.3 bug, Allen. I have an iPad mini (original, 24/12 old) and an iPhone 5 (not S, 18/12 old). Updated both from 8.2 to 8.3. I keep them and the apps up to date and run a tight ship.
Since the update, the iPhone has been behaving normally.
However, starting immediately after the update, the iPad has been rebooting: when you plug it into the power and it goes to sleep, it reboots itself. This NEVER ONCE happened before the 8.3 update -- and I think I started with this iPad on iOS5 or at least 6, with all the updates inbetween. If you want to use it again shortly after plugging it in, you have to wait about five-ten minutes (as other have reported).  So far, it has always rebooted successfully. But you do have to put in your passcode in response to "you have to enter your passcode upon rebooting" message; and tell it to trust your current computer connect once again.
It just now rebooted itself once again when plugged into the computer USB port, while in the middle of a sync (the screen went to sleep). Not happy about that; potential to damage data.
I confirm: this NEVER happened before 8.3, and it now reliably happens EVERY TIME I plug the iPad into power and it goes to sleep. I have three power sources (computer USB, individual Apple charger, aftermarket reserve battery charter) and it happens with all of them.
As far as I can tell, it only reboots itself once per charger-plugin, and doesn't do so again until you unplug it and plug it back in again (somewhat confident, but not 100% sure, of that).
Hope that helps. The bug needs squashing, and soon.

  • Often restore necessary after updates

Does anyone else has this problem in a similar severity like I do?
When I update apps with the Appstore-app on the device it nearly crashes everytime I do it while updating the app. Either it just freezes for a long time and I reset because it's unnormal long (and after that straight to the Apple-logo) or it just goes straight to the Apple-logo.
Updating with iTunes works often but not always. Here too: iTunes freezes, iPod goes straight to Apple-logo.
In all three cases it won't boot up again and I have to do a restore which takes time. Thanks to the design of the restore-process iTunes is not usable in that time (especially great when a video is running with video in the foreground or a long playlist and you can't control iTunes at all - the first case can make the computer unusable until the video finishes).
In addition backups are often incomplete and half of the apps are missing after restoring and using the latest backup and sometimes the backup is problematic and I have to restore several times in a row until it works again.
I don't know how often I had to redownload the flash cards for study cards, Things luckily syncs with the desktop-app and therefore usually no data loss and losing regularly save states from games is really frustrating.
    Argh!

Ok, while HP support totally ignores my issue, I try to deal with it on my own. I had to owe another notebook with WIN7 (and it was a good-working old Toshiba ) in order to make a local network between it and my notebook using LAN cable. Because it seems that the file system is the only thing that works on my HP... After I saved the only necessary file to a safe location on another notebook, I turned off HP notebook, turned on and pressed f11 until the Recovery Manager opened (1.1.0.13 version looks not like the screens HP shows in this guide on recovery http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867418, and from the Start/All programs/ it was unaccessible from my computer by the way). Now waiting for completion of formatting and recovery...

I have XP Pro. I tried installing 3.6.15 and could not open it. I did a system restore and 3.6.14 would no longer open. I tried again installing 3.6.15 and got a message that the previous version had not uninstalled properly. Tried uninstalling.
As a precaution I used MozBackup to save my bookmarks etc. and also saved a system restore point.
I then clicked Start, My Computer, drive C, Program Files and deleted the Firefox folder.
I installed 3.6.15 and it is now working fine with all my bookmarks and addons loaded automatically.

  • MSI P45-8D problem: reboot after loading startup services (windows seven 64bit)

    hi guys!
I decided (buying a cooler master elite 360) to keep my Memory Lover (whit ddr3/ich10r, pci-ex 2.0), which is actually the 'best purchase for me (rather than a G41 mATX) .
But then, after I had solved the problem of overheating in the pci-ex, and I put the board in its box for weeks, now has a new problem:
Continuous blocks & reboots just after loading startup services windows seven!
    The setup is this:
     Windows Seven 64bit
     MOBO MSI Memory Lover
     CPU Xeon L3110
     VGA MSI Radeon HD5450 1gb ddr2 fanless
     DDR3 1333 4GB
PSU Tacens Radix V mATX 35Watt Velociraptor + Caviar Green
     DVD burner (sata)
Esi pci-ex sound card connect module
Creative Xtreme Gamer (disconnected for now)
I have many ram models that I can put in:
     kingston lovo 4gb 1333
     4g-skill eco 4gb 1333
     adata green 4gb 1333
     corsairs white 8gb 1600
All memories can work undervolt at 1.35volt, but-of course-I keep them in standard 1.5Volt for more stability
I also tried a single 2gb stick at a time, but nothing has changed
when the system reboots (I infer) windows finished loading all the startup services (including antivirus, network drivers, audio drivers, etc. ..). and I can say with near certainty, that the last major service that is loaded, is the catalyst control center ...
I suspect an incompatibility with Memory Lover &  the Video Card's ATI driver ..
I also tried to uninstall and clean with driver sweeper, but the problem remains ..
Besides this I also have a problem with the temperature of the processor xeon l3110 (45watt tdp)
cpu heatsink as I have a Arctic Freezer LP 11 (Capacity Cooling 100W).
with thermal compound pre-installed I had 60/70 degrees recorded.
I changed the thermal compound with the famous Prolimatech pk-1 and now I measure 80/90 degrees ...(and I've changed a lot of thermal compound that I put with my eyes closed)
now, this is not possible because:
-I know the processor, I kept in daily use at 3Ghz with a noctua nh-U9B se2, and in summer never exceeded 40 degrees (d 'winter was about 30 degrees)
     - Either with the Scythe kama thermo, that with my finger, the heatpipes of the Freezer 11 LP, the Mosfet, the NB & SB are all cold .. the 5450 is 40 degrees or so, but it is fanless, and its temperature is in its normal ..
What can you tell me of my two problems:
     - Continuous reboots after loading windows seven
     - High temperature cpu (probably not real)
I remind you that a few months ago the team & Memory Lover Xeon L3110 worked perfectly.
The PSU is a new 350Watt Tacens Radix V mATX ... the system at idle consumes 70/80 watts (measured at the wall) ... I think it Is not a problem of the little power supply for the needs of my system ..
and anyway I can try to use an old Enermax 450watt Liberty, which I keep for emergencies..
     thanks
     max

    guys,
     I solved the problem!
the sink was installed wrong, and did not touch on the processor!!!
the problem was the mosfets around the cpu that make thickness in height ..
the thermal paste was put well and ... still immaculate!
processor took about 20 (or more) of restarts and very high working temperatures!
     it rocks!!
I can now say that the 'AC Freezer 11 LP is sensational!
The Xeon L3110 (with EIST, C1E & Acpi active together, That downclok it) works now to 23-25 degrees!!
     I have installed the ddr3 kingston 4gb Lovo 1333 + 8GB Corsair 1600 1.35Vram white.
(with 12GB, I can easily do a large Ramdisk for temporary files).
I installed hd5450 driver manually, but still the catalyst control center does not appear at startup
here is the screen of the situation:
finally...but how did I doubt the quality of this MSI board?

    Hi Hi Steve Giusto,
If you are having issues with Xxx_state issue here_xxX, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
    HT5137
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
    HT1430
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
