Is it better to upgrade to CS6 or just buy DW6

There is little difference in price between the CS6 suite and a stand alone DW6, both costing just under £400 in the UK (that would be about $700). The suite comes with a big overhead of additional programs that to me (other than Fireworks) are quite honestly not worth the learning curve.  The cost of creative cloud is quite frankly out of reach to the independent webmaster who only writes not for profit sites, and has to pay for his own software. If Adobe were to supply a creative cloud at say £60 a year and only give access to DW and Fireworks, I would probably take up the offer. That's the background.
What do other independent web writers think is the most economic solution, and which way have they chosen to go?

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Broadband down again!
Quote John Waller
Perpetual license = £358 x 3 (assuming CS6,7,8) = £1,074 (all payments in full, upfront).
Cloud = £328 + £562 + £562 = £1,452 (all monthly payments)
>>>>>>>>>>
I make that three years, not 5.
5 years would be 328 + 562 +562 + 562 + 526 = £2540 - which is a lot different to £1452.
If I upgrade to CS6 before January 1st  and the to CS7 and CS8, based on current prices, that would amount to £328 * 3 or £984, which is lots cheaper than what you are stating John.
Of course the price will probably rise, which would  affect your maths as well as mine and as you state, they probably will not provide upgrades in DVD format after 2012.
Currently it is not possible to buy an upgrade direct from the UK Adobe website unless you buy the cloud edition.
The discounted price seems to have been withdrawn, so that adds another £234 to the costs, making the cloud price for 5 years a magnificent £2774!
The cloud thing has everyone looking at regular upgrades and not at the cost. Cloud space costs not a lot but has one or two major problems. If you have an unreliable web service like I have, it can be out of action for days on end, -  a whole month once. It would cost me another £70 a year to obtain an unlimited download allowance which in my area is also not worth the money.
In addition, while its probably a safe storage system, its not the same as having it on your computer at your house. Similarly, if your subscription via PayPal has a technical hiccup, like one of mine did last month, your whole web production can go down the drain.
If you are on the cloud do you have to download Dreamweaver each time that you want to use it? Can you use it if you are not on line?
Most of my work takes place in the absence of a good broadband signal.
I will hedge my bets and buy an upgrade disk version of the suite and see what happens when 7 comes out.
Horses for courses - If I was charging £50 an hour for programming like I used to do when I was in the business, there would not be a problem. I just write for charity, and this change is going to stop me doing so - as it will lots of other people.
Microsoft has a charitable arm that supplies software at a great discount - why not Adobe?

  • HT4528 Do I have to have an upgrade, or can I just buy the phone at an apple store and activate it at Verizon?

I really want to know if I can just go to an apple store, pay $199 for the iPhone 5. Then, go to Verizonn and get it acitvated or switched? I'm just trying to work the system.
What will be the flat price with no upgrade for it at Verizon vs. Apple Store?

The $199 price is only for customers signing a new 2yr contract or those that qualify for an upgrade.
If you do not qualify for an upgrade, the price is $649 for the 16GB iPhone5.

  • Performance Problems PrPro CS5 - Upgrade to CS6?

    Hi
we often notice massive performance problems with PrPro CS5 here.
e.g. last week we were shooting with a Sony NEX-VG10. (MediaInfo:)
    Format: AVC
    Format profile: [email protected]
    Format settings, CABAC: Yes
    Format settings, ReFrames: 2 frames
    Format settings, GOP: M=2, N=13

    Width: 1 920 pixels
    Height: 1 080 pixels
    Display aspect ratio: 16:9
    Frame rate: 25 fps
After linking footage into PrPro plaback stutters.
PrPro is very often not responsive to the keyboard at all.
Sometimes PrPro needs some seconds before playback starts.
This way editing is a pain...
No fx in timeline, only one or two clips. Same behaviour if I play a clip in the source window.
Project and sequence settings are correct. Playback quality set to 1/4.
These problems occure in several projects with footage from different cameras.
PrPro works ok  with this (PAL/SD-)footage for example - MediaInfo:
    Format: DV
    Commercial name: DVCPRO
    Width: 720 pixels
    Height: 576 pixels
    Display aspect ratio: 16:9
    About the computer:
    Dell Precision WorkStation T5500
    24 GB RAM
    2 processors w/ 8 cores together: Intel Xeon CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz
    System: 250 GB (SSD)
Media: 2 TB (this is one normal internal hard drive, no raid)
NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (driver version 297.03)
connected to internet (is a must in this company)
connected to intranet, server (is a must in this company, too)
    optimized for performance
    windows firewall active
    AVIRA Porfessional
What would  PrPro force to work with HD footage?
    Add an RAID? internal/external?
    Upgrade to CS6?
Edncode footage to another codec before linking it into PrPro? (which codec? encode with AME?)
Buy a new processor? (i7? which one?)
    Buy any Hardware pieces?
TIA for your guidiance and best regards.

Take a look at the Dell T7400 currently at rank # 568, 'Base2008PT1' on Benchmark Results. It is somewhat similar to your own system, but has more memory, a better video card and some raid0 arrays. Nevertheless, it is around 3.4 times slower than a fast system. My guess is that your system is even slower.
The material you try to edit is very demanding and requires a beefy computer. Even though there is nothing wrong with the dual Xeon E5620's, their clock speed works against you (I have the same CPU's in a file server, but that is far less demanding than editing), as does the amount of memory in the system. You can be helped with more disks, but don't expect miraculous performance improvements. But all little things help.
The alternative is a complete new system, but that can be pricey. Even if you build it yourself, see Planning & Building a NLE system it can be costly. It gives you very fast performance as demonstrated on the Reflections page and you should not get such a system from Dell or HP, unless you have unlimited funds.

  • How can I upgrade my CS6 from CS5.5 that is tied to another ID?

    Greetings.
I have contacted tech support by phone and chat and neither time did I get the help I needed.
My company bought CS5.5 a few years ago.  The woman that had my job at the time registered that version under her Adobe ID.  I recently purchased CS6 (upgrade-download version) and registered it under my Adobe ID.  When I run the installer and get to the part where I select a previous version, I choose 5.5 and enter the serial #.  It tells me that the serial # is not valid and to choose another.  I contacted support and they told me that they cannot help because the previous version is under another employees ID.
This is not a very effective registration model.  People come and go from jobs all the time, to have them tie a software version to their personal ID is ridiculous.  Look at what has happened to me.  I cannot locate the old employee to get her information and tech support won't do anything.
How am I supposed to activate this software?  Is anybody from Adobe out there reading this?  After 4 phone calls and 2 chat sessions, I have no trust in technical support anymore.
    Please, please advise!

Is the software owned by the company or the employee?  The software should have been registered under a company Adobe ID and not an employee.  It sounds like that serial number is now associated with the employee's own Adobe account and not the company so essentially she owns that serial number.  Your company doesn't sound too efficient when purchasing and managing their own software.
Your IT department should have had control of all software and ID's.  Have you checked with them to see if they have access to that account?  Is it possible the employee took the software with her when she left then installed it on her own computer?  That might be why your serial number no longer works.
Adobe's tech support stinks especially if you ask a question outside of their knowledge and what they have on a script.  They may as well have monkeys answering the phone.  Actually monkeys are easier to understand than the reps are.
Maybe somebody else will come along with a better resolution.  You should return the upgrade of CS6 and may have to either get the CC version or re-purchase the full-price CS6 while it is still available.

  • Upgrade Adobe CS6 Design & Web premium to Master Collection.

Hi, is it possible to upgrade Adobe CS6 Design & Web premium to Master Collection? What is the cost?

I'm not sure, but the answer must be a Yes. Coz, it is like you are upgrading to a product which has more products.
If you have purchased Design & Web Premium CS6 within 30 days, then it is better to return and purchase Master Collection itself.
I'm not sure of the cost either.

  • I have CS3 and CS5 on my Mac, can I safely delete CS3 now that I am upgrading to CS6?

This may seem like a paranoid question, but better safe than sorry...
I currently have both CS3 and CS5 (Production Premium) loaded on my Mac laptop. I just got the upgrade to CS6 today.
I really don't need/use CS3 anymore, so I am wondering if it is OK for me to delete CS3 applications from my computer. I just don't want to accidentally delete something that my CS6 upgrade (or even CS5) might need.
    Any thoughts?
Just trying to be extra careful here before I delete anything...

Dont worry uninstall CS3 , it would not harm your CS6 , As I said Uninstall it properly do not delete it

  • CS3 upgrade to CS6.

I've been using CS3 for years and would like to upgrade to CS6. Can't find it on this very difficult to navigate site anywhere.
If the only option is the monthly cloud, I will not be using Adobe software anymore.
I have no idea where this topic is going to land, what a difficult forum.

    Bobby Minnich wrote:
Is there a comparison somewhere between CS3 and CS6?
How much is the cloud stuff different than CS3? Entire new learning curve?
I think the most important differences between CS3 and CS6 are the introduction of Live View and significant improvements to support for PHP (but only for hand-coding, not for using server behaviors). Live View renders the page as you would see it in a standards-compliant browser, using an embedded WebKit rendering engine. However, CS6 was released three years ago, so that version of WebKit is now out of date.
If you look at the What's New in CS6 PDF that Nancy linked to, Fluid Grid Layouts, Multiscreen Preview, and PhoneGap integration would not justify upgrading from your current version. Fluid Grid Layouts were a good idea, but poorly implemented. Some improvements were made after CS6, but I couldn't honestly recommend their use. As for Multiscreen Preview and PhoneGap integration, they have both been removed from Dreamweaver CC. Multiscreen Preview is OK, but not a must-have. The PhoneGap integration was very flaky. It worked for a while, but changes to PhoneGap rendered it useless.
Dreamweaver CC looks very familiar. It is, after all, still an HTML/CSS editor with strong support for JavaScript and PHP. However, the workflow has changed considerably. Live View is kept up to date, and you can now edit directly in Live View. The other big change is the introduction of the CSS Designer panel with support for media queries. Some people love the CSS Designer, others don't. I imagine that switching from CS3 to CC 2014.1 would be a jolt to the system, but as long as you have solid HTML/CSS skills, you should get used to it fairly quickly.
The main point about the subscription system is that it gives you updates to the program roughly three times a year. You're not forced to update until you're ready, and you can always switch back to a previous version if it suits your workflow better. Most people are used to paying monthly for mobile phone, and the cost of the CC subscription is similar or less. The downside is that if you stop paying, the program stops working, so it is a long-term commitment that needs to be carefully considered.
I taught a postgraduate web media course at university last year using both Dreamweaver CC and Brackets. Most students preferred Dreamweaver, but two or three of them opted for Brackets, and loved it. Brackets is a free HTML/CSS/JavaScript editor created by Adobe. If you're happy hand-coding, it might be worth considering as an alternative.

  • Hi there, i want to buy a registered version of PS CS4 (and an Upgrade to CS6)from a private Person...is there any Possibility to check if the Adobe ID,Licence,User is a real person...or a fake before buying it? Thanks for helping!

    Hi,
just got an offer from a private Person, who owns a boxed Version of Photoshop CS4 (DVD) and an Upgrade from CS4 to CS6....he told me that he can transfer the current license to me... now there's one important question for me...
Is there any possibility to check his Adobe-ID (which he already told me) if it's the same adress, name, etc. as he told me...
or if there is an registered Version of PS CS4 owned by this Adobe-ID?
Just like to check if he's a real person or a fake...don't want to buy any stolen or illegal software...or beeing punked after paying the money...
Thank you very much for helping me! :-)
    Chriss

Old versions of Photoshop are not marketed by Adobe. Only CS5 can be upgraded to CS6.  There are many scams on the web if you find a cheap copy of Photoshop out there its most likely a scam... Be careful.....

  • PDF presets are lost after upgrade to CS6 and uninstallation CS4

Since upgrading to CS6 from CS4 and subsequently uninstalling CS4 (and CS3) - as advised by IT - I have lost the presets I had when I export to pdf from Illustrator & Indesign - the drop down menu options of PRESS QUALITY, HIGH QUALITY and SMALLEST FILE SIZE have gone.
I have a back up of CS4's settings but no idea which one I need and what to do with it in order to reinstate these options.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much

You simply would have to copy the presets into the  folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Settings
I'd be careful, though. Overwriting default presets with an older version may cause compatibilty issues.

  • Upgrading to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium Install Failure

I am trying to upgrade to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium on Win 7 (32bit).  I am nistalling from the DVD which was purchased from the Adobe Store.  The box says it is for Upgrading from 4 or 3x.   I am entering the CS6 serial number and it is able to validate it.   When it goes into the Preparing to Install mode  the status bar never changes and after what seems like a very long time the Installation failed message is displayed.  I ran the Adobe Support advisor and  followed the link to the page that tells you how to resolve the issues and chose to go into the registry and look for "In Progess".  There was no "In Progress".     I have the serial numbers for CS4 and CS6 so they should be valid given that both were purchased through the Adobe Store.   I am very frustrated!!!!!!!!!
    Installation Status:
    Installation failed:
    Adobe Advisor Results:
    Regestry:

I downloaded and installed the Application manager and re-started the installation.  This time it got to installiing the applications and after 3 hours it was only 55% completed and showing that it was installing Acrobat  and had 2 hours to go. It seemed to be stuck so I cancelled the install.

  • Upgrading to CS6 returns: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product"

I have CS5 and have been using it for about 2 years. The Serial number for CS5 it is registered to my adobe id.
So i decided to upgrade to CS6 today. I then registered that to my adobe id as well.
When i open CS6 and enter my new serial number, it tells me:
Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer
Which is strange because CS5 is currently installed and running on this computer
So it then prompts me to select a previous product that I own and enter the serial number for that. So I select CS5 and enter the serial number for my CS5 license.
However, it then tells me: "This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another"
But it doesn't tell may any further details. I.e. Why is it not valid?
    Can you help?
    Thanks!

Brazzers234 is the serial number for CS5 also an upgrade?  The upgrade process is looking for a full version serial number.  You can determine what type of serial number is registered under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  For additional details please see Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
If you have verified that the CS5 serial number is a full version serial number or your previous full version serial number is still not accepted then please contact our support team directly at Contact Customer Care to verify the validity of the previous version serial number.

  • I'm confused - does it still make sense to upgrade to CS6 now?

    Hi,
I wanted to switch from Mac to Windows in the near future and therefore upgrade from CS5 to CS6 (because apparantly it's not possible to switch my CS5 license to another OS).
Cloud version is a no-go for me, one reason is because I don't like monthly fees, I want to buy things and own them.
Now, with the CC versions announced and the discontinuation of the Creative Suite, I am not sure it even makes sense to upgrade to CS6 anymore? Would I invest in a more or less dead product?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm really confused about this.

Ok. nevermind. I decided to buy a new Mac and to continue using CS5 as long as possible while looking for alternative software.
