Is it just me, or are the Apple Discussion servers having trouble today?
I've been strugling with Safari problems all day, and coming here looking for solutions, I'm constantly getting "We're sorry, Apple Discussions is temporarily unavailable", the entire discussion section seems to be offline as much as it's available today, and the darn thing has crashed several different browsers on different operating systems....
Is there some massive spike in usage? (because Steve's back? - glad to hear he is! because Safari is driving people crazy? or is it really just me?).
Hope this message goes through before it freeze up again...

I wish you folks well & understand that a stable solution takes time, but just for the record as of now (midday U.S. CDT) the response time is still extremely variable, from eye-blink fast to well over a minute, & has been like this for the last several days & nights. I'm an insomniac (or as I like to describe it, "unstuck in time") & as likely to check Discussions at 4 AM as 4 PM.
Perhaps you folks can (carefully, humbly) talk to marketing & get a bigger labor & hardware budget well in advance of each major product release, on the grounds that when Discussions gets flaky, product image suffers? Perhaps work up a dramatic presentation using two actors, one dressed in a suit & another more casually ....

It has been telling me that the activation server might be temporarily down since two weeks ago or even more.

Activation Fails in all 3 ways. Over Cellular Connection, Over WiFi, and when i attempt to plug in to iTunes. What's the deal?
Server overload is the issue, including activation
servers. Just unfortunate that you got your replacement

hello i just came back from the apple store and they had to restore my phone and i just downloaded all my apps and music back but my photos that are on icloud i only got 80 out of 768 back. what do i do to get all of them back?
If you tried to restore to your iCloud backup and your photos didn't fully restore, first go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure it isn't still in the process of restoring.
If the restore is complete and all your photos weren't restored, all you can do is try restoring the backup again. You might try the solution posted by ezjules in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589. This involves opening the photos app after the phone restarts and you provide the passwords for your Apple IDs, then leaving it open for the remainder of the restore process. -
Just got back from the Apple Store...optical drive officially dead
I just got back from the Apple Store, which confirmed what I feared all along. I received my MBP C2D over the holidays and was worried when it had trouble booting up several times. After trying to burn a few cds (some would quit, others worked fine), and a few discs that refused to read or eject I visited the boards to find out that issues with the Matshita UJ 587 were widespread. At this point my computer does not even recognize the ATA or Disc Burning hardware or the OSX disc inside. The only positive to come out of this is the customer service offered by Apple. I took the computer to the genius bar and the computer refused to boot up after the tech installed an OSX disc (hence the stuck cd inside). They are giving me a new computer since this one is brand new, but unfortunately I will have to order it from Apple Care since it is a custom job. For all of you out there with early MBP C2D optical drives that are acting up I feel your pain. Get your computer into an Apple store before the problem gets worse, these optical drives are awful.

The computer was shipped back this afternoon and I'll post again if there's any trouble with the new unit, I think I just got a lemon with this one...too bad. I just want to download the apple tv software on to my pc...however I cant seem to find this anywhere and my laptop doesn't reconsie the apple tv device!!
You can't download it to your PC. The only way is to connect Apple TV to your computer and restore via iTunes (which will load the current firmware).
Make sure you are following the steps exactly (unplug all cables, then connect micro usb cable)
Make sure you are connecting directly to computer, not a keyboard port or USB hub
Try a different cable
Also may want to check any firewall and security software installed on the system. -
For some reason when I plug my phone up to charge it just keeps showing me the apple logo and then it goes away shows the battery sign is low and that its charging. So I'm wondering why it wont turn on would I have t get a new one, and would it be free
If you've tried the basic troubleshooting steps (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new), and you've tried charging from a wall socket and these all fail, then you have a hardware problem.
If your unit is still in warranty, you will be eligible for a replacement with a refurbished unit free of charge. If you are out of your warranty period, you will be eligible for an out of warranty exchange which will cost the equivalent of 200 US dollars. -

If the phone was previously owned and is locked to that owner's Apple ID the ONLY way you can activate it is to get that person to release Activation Lock. This is an antitheft feature of the phone; stolen phones are useless.
If you purchased the phone new you created the Apple ID, and will have to remember it. If it is only the password you have forgotten go to https://iforgot.apple.com -

We are mainly just users to users here, and sometimes a Apple folk will respond, but it's just a direction to a Apple support document, no service or account issues are handled here.

We don't know what Apple will decide to do in your case, the best source of information is the shop you brought it to.
They might be in the process of fixing it, or they might be deciding they need to keep your machine for investigation.
Apple will take care of you, make sure you buy AppleCare and a external drive for TimeMachine if you haven't already. -

I have a similar problem to StormRider08. In addition to my iMac (which I just set up with Mt. Lion) I got an iPad mini. Neither would let me use the same AppleID. My original ID shows up in the stores, but apparently cannot be used. And I cannot change it (at least I don't know how to).

i know loads of people who have had this problem including me. The Java script update apparently had some virus that has overloaded the start up disk. I took to apple who said i have to have the machine rebuilt but first i have to go to a data recovery company to get back everything that was on it. Data recovery company have quoted me nearly £1000.

I want to wipe my HD clean. Command R won't bring up disk utility, it just keeps spinning on the Apple logo. I'm running 10.9.3 on a macbook pro.
Select the Recovery partition. It should boot to a screen like this:
Select Disk Utility and reformat your boot drive, formatting with a single GUID partition as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Once the partition is erased go back to Reinstall Mac OS X and install the OS on your newly formatted partition. It may take a while and if you downloaded Mavericks from the Mac App Store (duh!) you may need your Apple ID and password handy.
Installing the OS may take quite some time as it will necessitate downloading the 5GB+ OS file.
Now you'll be able to make a clean installation of everything.
