Is it possible to provide type in the value option ( provide option to user like he can select a value from the extracted data in a drop down list object and also he can enter a value manually ) to a drop down list box on an interactive form ?

In the Adobe LiveCycle Designer you can specify several list items for objects of type 'Drop-down List' and it is also possible to allow custom entries (checkbox: "Allow Custom Text Entry").

I have a drop-down list box on Page 1, upon which the user can choose a study number. The List Box is named "P1_STUDY_NBR".
Then I have a list, one entry of which goes to my master-detail form, which is Page 6. I would like it to go to the study number that the user choose on Page 1.
In my target on the create/edit list entry, I put in "Page in this Application", "Page 6", then in Set these items, I put in

My question is what to use in With these values, where I want the contents of the P1_STUDY_NBR. I tried:

and that does not work. If I put in one of the study numbers, like 336-00, then it does work, but I want it to pass the study number the user chooses in the list box. How do I refer to the contents of P1_STUDY_NBR?

Yes, that does work, thanks. I'm now getting the default value I was putting in yesterday rather than an error message, so there must be something loading it, but I'll hunt around for what process might be doing that, or try re-creating the master-detail form again.

Using getElementById() to get values from drop down list

Hi, I am using Netbeans to write this program. I have this .java page that gets the url of the HtmlPage from the .properties page. And when this page is opened in the browser, there are drop down lists that have values I want to get from the user when he/she has selected, and save it to a database. I'm actually using mozilla firefox to open this page, and using firebug to inspect the drop down list element.
I know getElementById is a javascript code, however, my friend told me to use it in the .java page. This is how part of my code looks like. What I'm not sure is how to implement getElementById() and where.

Use of Zero (0) in Required Drop-Down List Field

Using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.1x and Acrobat Pro Extended 9.1.2.
I have a drop-down list (DDL) on a form for entering a quantity. For certain reasons (i.e., quantity bundling/packages), I want to use a DDL.
For one thing, if I set the default value to zero (0), that value does not appear in the DDL in the published form.
Moreover, I've set the field to "User Entered - Required". However, the form doesn't recognize/validate zero (0) as an entry in this field, and I need it to.
Is there a trick to using a zero (0) as a value in a DDL, esp. one set to "required"?

I too was unable to recreate the error/condition, so, I deleted and
re-inserted the fields, without a problem.

Is it possible to show first item in a Drop down list

Is it possible to automatically display the first item in a drop down list ?
The reason I ask is ... I am generating pre-filled PDF forms using XML data files.
Whenever there is a certain type of data I am populating a drop down list for the user to review.
Currently, the user must click on the drop down to see if data is there regardless of whether there is no data at all or many data lines of data..
I would like to make it clear to the user whether or not there is any data - right awa.y
I have considered creating a display item next (like a check box or a text field ) next to the drop down and setting it to cindicate if there is data, etc -
but i thougth that I would ask if the drop down could simply be set to automatically display the first item in the list (this is the preferred functionality)
If this is not possible I can always create a check box and set it if there is any data as an indicator for the user ..

Place the code in Inititalize event with Java Script

DropDownList1.selectedIndex = 0;
You need to check if the Dropdown has a value selected from the previous save.. If not then set the selected item to 0th index. (which is 1st one in the dropdown values)..

Enter the items for your drop-down list into a list on the worksheet, one item per cell. In this example, I'll assume that the month names start in cell E1 and extend down to E12, but they can be in any out-of-the-way location on the worksheet. In Excel terminology, a rectangular group of cells (such as E1 to E12) is called a range.
Select the cell that will contain the drop-down list. If you'd like more than one cell to display the same list, just select them all now rather than setting them up one at a time. (Click and drag to select a range; hold down Ctrl while you click to select non-adjacent cells.)

I am creating a template with drop down menus in Numbers. I want to be able to insert options into the middle of my list at a later date if I need to, but I can only insert at the end of the drop down list. Is there a different program I could be using?

I need to be able to add in more options into my drop down list in Numbers at a later time, not only at the bottom but say in the middle of the list. Should I be using a different program that can allow this to work? Thank you!

Using the same field on a form for multiple menu/drop down list

I have a form that tracks people that attend orientations. It is possible for an Attendee to attend the same orientation up to three times.
In using the Update record wizard, I have two recordsets, rsAttendees and rsOrientation from two separate tables.
I want to be able to use the rsOrientation to create a drop down list, but I want to use that same recordset field as the source for the dropdown 3 times on the same record.
There are 3 fields on the Attendee form:
Orientation1, Orientation2, and Orientation3.
Using the wizard, I set each up as a Menu, then select the rsOrientation, Orientation.Date as the source for all 3.
The problem is that only the Orientation1 field is populated. Orientation2 and Orientation3 dropdowns are blank.

Type ahead in drop down lists

Hi, I would like to be able to type ahead in drop down lists. E.g. with an alphabetical drop down list having

I would like to be able to position within that drop down list by typing e.g. st and land upon steven, however when I key in st, I find myself at the top of the entries in the drop down list starting with t.

I admit that I don't fully understand how it all works, but I'll explain the general steps I took to get it working. Hopefully some of the smart people here can show us a better way to do it.
I don't think that I should post the actual javascript file because the first line of it says:

If you save it and a copy of the page that calls it on your local web server, you can play around with it.

From all that, you can see that the end result is that the script calls a URL like this, with your query at the end:

The script can be edited to call any URL. I changed it to call a stored procedure on my HTML DB web server. The changes were:
Line 3: Change pn="search" to pn="schema.package.procedureName"
Line 14: Change else E="/complete/" to E="/pls/htmldb/" (The Location entry set in your Marvel.conf)
You then need to create a stored procedure that will be called from Line 3.
It needs to have 3 varchar2 parameters called qu, hl, and js. The first one is the query string. I didn't use the other two.
It needs to return a message like the script is expecting - with the results concatenated in comma-separated arrays. Here is a simple example:

The last step is to hook it into HTML DB. Examining the Google page shows that they run a script called InstallDC to hook the script to a form field.
In the Footer section of the Page Attributes of my page, I added this:

Drop Downl list box using model binding

Hi friends
   I observed one thing that for drop down list box if we set the attribte 'helpValues' using Model Data Binding. Then the list is showing if the search help assigned to field or data element contains only 2 fields.
    For example in SFLIGHT table drop down list box shows for 'CARRID' Field not for 'CONNID' .
    The same problem for get_simple_helpvalues2() method also.
    Is it right ? or Wrong?

That is a limitation of those methods that I have observed as well.
Recently I picked through the code of get_simple_helpvalues2. I am currently using in my Value Help Custom Extension (along with the BAPI for HELP_VALUES). I wanted something simpler to use than the BAPI, but with more functionality than get_simple_helpvalues2. I used some of the code from get_simple_helpvalues2 and extended it to support any elementary search help (it works for both CARRID and CONNID).
I used calls to DD_SHLP_GET_HELPMETHOD and DD_SHLP_GET_HELPVALUES. The end result is quite a bit of code, but once completed very easy to reuse. I hope to update the example I have on SDN for Value Help with this additional solution, but I have been quite busy trying to get ready for TechED. Also I have a few bugs left to work out in my method.

I'm using Firefox 5.0 and I cannot type a value into a drop down menu.

There is a webpage with a drop down menu box.
When I open the page with IE, I can choose from the listed values OR type my own value,
When I open the page with Firefox, I can only choose from the listed values BUT CANNOT type my own value.
The page is on my company and so I am sorry that I cannot show it to you guys at the moment.
Is there anything I can try modifying so that I can make the box typable?

Go to Options > Advanced > General and uncheck the "Use hardware acceleration when available"

How to use multiple drop down lists and do not allow duplicates.

I am creating a roster that has multiple positions on multiple pages. I have a drop-down list that is populated with all of the employees and want to make sure that the same employee cannot be selected for multiple posts. Ideally, when one is selected in a position, that person would not be an option in the other drop-down lists. Also, when the form is published, the end user will not use the drop-down lists in order. I have found script to remove selected items, but it only works when the user makes selections in order (List1, List2, List3 etc).
First time posting, any help would be appreciated.

Look into the ring control. It behaves a lot like an enum, but you can dynamically set its contents and values associated with those contents.

The easiest way to do this is to define a domain for Gender that maps to
a droplist widget. ForteExpress will then automatically display the
widget in any ArrayWindow or FormWindow in which Gender appears. (I
don't think outlinefields support this widget.) There is a documented
customization for adding SQL to the domain to automatically fill it, but
we've found this to be a performance drag. What we usually do is cache
this type of list information on the client, usually by loading it into
arrays of listelement in a service object at user logon. The list is
then ready to go whenever a window needs it, and you can set the element
list of the droplist in PostOpenInit or wherever it seems appropriate.

Drop-down list will not allow custom entry

I've got a drop down list on my form, with the 'Allow Custom Text Entry' checkbox checked. However, when I attempt to type in custom text, as soon as I focus away from the drop down via tab or clicking on another element, the text that I typed in disappears. The only text that I can get to submit is what is contained in the pre-defined list items. However, when I create a new form with nothing but the drop-down, it works fine...
