Is it possible to config memory size for a process?

I would like to control the memory size assigned for a process on Solaris 9. Can i config memory size assigned for process??

You can use ulimit/limit to assign a bound on the amount of space that a process and its children can allocate.
I'm not sure if that's what you're asking though.

The maximum threshold is a value which may reach on peak usage and Webi processing server cannot occupy memory beyond this value at any time.
In your situation 9 Webi Processing servers with 16 GB of RAM on server is not recommended. This is because consider situation with total 16 GB of host RAM.
4 GB should left for OS
Tomcat will need minimum 2 GB for 200 users
So you are left with 10 GB RAM for all BO services
Now 9 Webi Processing servers with 6 GB of Threshhost will not work here
For this configuration you can have 2 Webi Processing servers with default threshold should be running on single host.

The suggestion could be convert applet into WebStart application which is quite similar to applet (at least
it is distributed similar way, resides within sandbox etc) but allows to specify memory size as you requested.

How to change heap memory size for general java applications (not applets)

Hi. I made a java class which manipulates images and I sometimes get an out of memory error when the files are large. In these cases I can run it successfully from the command line using:
java -Xms32m -Xmx128m myappbut as I run this class from a firefox extension, I can't use this technique.
Could some one tell me how to set this globally? I've found a lot of info on setting it for applets in the control panel but that's it. I also tried editing my deployment.properties file by adding:
deployment.javapi.jre.1.6.0_11-b03.args=-Xmx128mbut none of these options seem to work.

Also you can use use [JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS|http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/jvmti/jvmti.html#tooloptions], with more documentation here. JAVA_TOOLS_OPTIONS is available since 1.5. There is no direct documentation on [_JAVA_OPTIONS|http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/2d/flags.html] but was made available since at least 1.3.

You specified you are not using applets, but if you do, I would also suggest you use the next Generation Plug-in (since 1.6.0_10) that allows you specify the max memory in the applet without having to instruct the user how to make the change. Maximum data segment size for a process

Hello
we have an issue in our proxy server with the size of a process.
the process grow in size and when it reaches 4Gbytes, the process stop with an error that it cannot allocate memory, we check and there's plently of swap left,. all the ulimit settings in solaris 10 are set to 'unlimited'
is there a way i can see or determine, bypass configure what is the maximum process size. on a 64bit solaris.

It sounds like you're running a 32-bit app. You need a 64-bit application for it to be able to utilize more than 4 GB of RAM.

Save for Web with Optimize File Size for Batch Process

I have a client who needs to be able to run a batch process on jpg images ranging in size from 600KB to 2.5MB optimizing their file size as close to 200KB as possible. The feature is included in Photoshop's save for web optimize dialog but it doesn't work for batch processes. If you record an action with the optimize to file size option set it processes all the images in the batch based on the quality settings required to resize the image you used during recording, meaning if the image you recorded was 1.5MB the quality setting might be 70 percent to hit the 200KB mark but that wouldn't be the correct quality setting for a 600KB file nor a 2.5MB file those would either be too small or too large.
I've done quite a bit of searching both online and in the photoshop scripting forums but I haven't been able to find anything that would point me in the right direction.
My client's paying for this work so if there's someone who knows how to script this who'd rather be paid than just do some pointing we can arrange for that quite easily.

Optional Package - does it decrease memory size for war

We have around 10+ war files running within WLS 10.3.4.
Each of the war files are around 40 megs each.
I am looking at building a frameworks jar (via Apache Shade) and make that jar an optional package (which includes all my 3rd party frameworks like Spring/CXF/etc).
By deploying this jar as an optional package, I can cut the size of the war file in half.
The question is, does this really save the size of the war in memory?
When I deploy a war with a reference to an optional package, does WLS explode the war, import the optional package, and rebuild the war for deployment so that in the end, it equates to the same size war as if I had never utilized the optional package? The documentation seems to allude to this.
I want to know (before I do all the work), if decreasing the size of the war by excluding 3rd party libraries into an optional package will actually reduce the size of memory for each war.

One option is: use the c6/c7/c8 parameters if the INSTALL APDU. Start with a high value and work your way down. That will tell you how much mem you have.
The other option is to load an applet that allocates a large byte array. Work your way down and when it can successfuly allocate the memory, that's whats available on the card for you to use.
Third option: Get a 2.2 card and just call the API ! ! !

Is it possible to set frame size for a new project ?

Hi all,
i would like to create a video in which there will be 2 videos playing the same content from a different angle.
Each video is 512 x 384 .
So i would like to set the frame size of the project as 1024 x 768 in order both videos to exist.
I searched around for tutorials regarding this but i didn't find anything similar.It seems as if i cannot set the frame size of the project from the start.
So,is there a way to do this?

Yes. Both RAM and the hard drive are easily accessible and replaceable. The warranty is not voided because both are considered DIY. However, if you damage the computer in the process then your warranty will not cover that damage. But it is not voided.

[Athlon64] K8MM-V - Memory Size

Hi,
I have a K8MM-V with a AMD Samperon 64bit (3000+) CPU and am wondering about the max memory size for it.
The website says that it handles 2GB of DDR400. I have 2x1GB DDR400 chips and the BIOS only sees 1.5GB as does Windows.
The memory have Samsung chips and are of the same time. What is wrong? Or did I not set something correctly?
Bios is at ver1.3. The memory is set to AUTO. So I am not sure what is going on

Memory banks, You know you can get double sided memory modules.
So if you installed a double sided module you could not use dimm slot 2.
Each dimm slot has 2 memory address lines so you can access both sides at the same time and use double sided modules.
So
dimm slot 1 = bank 0 and Bank 1
dimm slot 2 = bank 2 and Bank 3
dimm slot 3 = bank 4 and Bank 5
Since there are over hundreds types of memory modules and they are using different type of DRAMs to build them, it is very possible that you have purchased a (cheap) memory module which is not compatible with your computer.
For example, there might be 3-4 different types of 128MB memory modules and some computers are very picky and can only support 1 type or 2 types of 128MB memory modules. If it is incompatible, then usually you will not be able to boot up your system or you will see frozen screen or system might only recognize half of the memory size. This issue adresses to very low compatibility, because memory maker use several configuration.
Maybe you can try setting memory to "SPD"
Edit here: try using only one stick at a time, if they are reconized alone as 1 GB the problem will remain in the very low compatibility issue, and maybe you want to buy some others ram stick from another chip maker, maybe Geil, or Corsair.

Is there a problem with maximum RAM size for Satellite 320CDT?

I have a Satellite 320CDT with the latest BIOS (v8.00) and Windows 98 SE installed; there is 32MB base memory and a 32MB module in the single expansion slot. If I change this for a 64MB expansion module I can still only see 64MB total memory reported, not 96MB as expected; the spec for the machine states that the maximum allowable memory is 160MB (32MB base + 128MB expansion). Does anybody know if there is a problem with the maximum memory size for this model and whether there is a solution or workaround? I need to know quickly, in order to decide if I need to return the memory module to the supplier! Many thanks for any help, Peter

Are you certain you tried the correct type of memory module? It sounds like you're maybe trying to fit an incompatible type.

Epson Print CD - "Increase memory size"

Bit of a long shot I guess, but I'm trying to print onto a CD using Epson Print CD... However, when I go to print, it comes up with a message that says "Please increase memory size for print CD", and won't go any further. I'm guessing that has something to do with setting preferences in OSX, but I have no idea what to do...
Any ideas?

Here's the PowerPC version for your iMac iSight 2.5aAas for 10.2 to 10.4, and Intel version, if you got any Intel Macs 3.0aAs for 10.4.4 and above on the U.S. website. The U.K. links for the same printer are here: PowerPC version 2.5, and Intel version 3.0. Not sure if there is a difference, but you might want to try the U.S. version of the drivers. Realize we here in the U.S. spell colour, color!

Limit size for attachment

Hello. Is possible to restrict the size for each attachment? I know that CRM permit upload attachment for 9MB maximum, but I want to restrict my users that every attachment souldn't exceed 1MB.

There is a way to get round the attachment size issue if you can create an office/LAN filing folder structure (with no spaces in the file path/s and file name) and add the attachment only as a URL to link to the file on your office server. This takes up only about 2K storage space for the URL link in CRM. It will open the document direct from the link entered. There are specific parameters to be met for this but we make this part of our training for users.
However, the effectiveness of this depends on users only linking files that will open readily from your LAN server. Of course, network access to the folder structure must be developed for the appropriate rights for the CRM users.
If you have a virtual private network connecting office LANs in various locations, then, if your networks are standardised, you can set up a distributed file system with standardised folder structure (again with no spaces) but might want to advise users to add URLs for files no larger than, say, 500K, or there could be some delay in opening documents across the VPN, depending on the speed/capacity of your VPN connections. So technically we are not "limiting" size, just training users to know what not to do.
As admin in an international organisation, I ask (train) any users, who want to refer to files which are very large, to enter the basic details in a Note on the record - giving name of document, size, who to contact for a copy to be emailed, brief summary of content etc. Then other users can request a copy of the file by email, either by setting a task for the file owner or sending an email.
Not sure if this can help in your situation, but it works well for us.

Sorry, I should have read your request more thoroughly. You said you want to make a select list like a multi select. Why do you want to do this? There are various tools used in web development for various reasons and sticking to those standards makes using your application easier for end users.
Why not just use a select list, Popup LOV, or radio button to present the options?
