Is it possible to connect a local file server to 365 onedrive via sharepoint?

We have our local 2012 file server with everyones document directories and common shares. We use AD and have all user accounts defined. As part of our K12 licensing we have Office 365 E1 for all staff, so I set up the Azure AD Sync and we now have all the
staff accounts set up in 365 and people can work on Office from home.
The problem is that everyone wants their files from home as well, ideally in their OneDrive. OneDrive for Business doesn't seem to have a mechanism to sync all the files from our file server to each persons OneDrive automatically. I read somewhere that I
can do it by using SharePoint as a intermediary - that is I can set up a local sharepoint that syncs the fileserver to sharepoint, then I can set up the 365 sharepoint to sync between the onprem sharepoint and the 365 OneDrives.
This seems like a massive pain but is it doable? is there a better way or is it not possible and sharepoint/local files will always be separate from Onedrive?  it seems like such a common and obvious request for people who can't dump local file servers.
Mark

not all to each, just duplicating our current system. Each user has a few hundred mb of files (on average) and there is a common drive with a few hundred gb.
Right now the assumption by Microsoft is that each user will individually install the local Onedrive app and sync their C: drive documents folder to their Onedrive. In our case we have the documents stored centrally and the onedrive app will not sync a network
folder. I am looking for some method of making it happen.

I've just done a clean install of OSX Server and added the latest MYSQL packaged installer. Afterwards I found the lock file in /private/tmp/mysql.lock
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a symbolic link so that the lock file appears to be in right place.
    e.g.
    cd /var
sudo mkdir mysql <== this assumes the directory is missing
    cd mysql
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock mysql.sock
After this msql commands should work fine, and you've not fiddled with the security settings on users/groups.

  • Backing up Local File Server to a remote File Server - Best way?

    Hi all,
I am building a project for my University Dissertation which is based on the implementation of an ISO 27000 compliant virtualised environment.
I have three sites ( offices ) each with their own local file server, that i would like to back up every 24 hours to remote primary data centre.
The primary data centre will be based in office 1, and the secondary data centre will be based in office 3.
As this is only a project, and not a real life implementation, all the machines sit on the same network, running on the same physical host, but i need to show the process of backing up the 'local' file servers to the 'remote' ones. Each site will have its
own file server in the data centre.
every 24 hours, the primary data centre will backup the data to the secondary data centre ( this is so i can introduce the idea of business continuity into the project).
Is anybody able to direct me in the right direction for backing up my local servers to a remote server?
Below is my high level diagram, that illustrates what i am doing.
    Many thanks in advance
    Aaron

One way that I have seen many organizations implement is to simply install Microsoft Distributed File System.  You can set up a hub and spoke configuration where the 'master' copies are in the hub location from which you want to backup.  Then any
place the needs copies is a spoke off the hub.
Another possibility would be to use Microsoft's BranchCache capability.
Either one is part of the operating system.  I can't say specifically which would work better for your situation without getting more detail.

  • "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'"

    Data Services=3.1
    Repository=12.2.2.0000
    Red Hat Enterprise 5
    Designer,Job Server,Job Engine=12.2.2.3
After an unscheduled server reboot with DS up and running when trying to start a job in either Data Services Management Console or DS Designer getting the following:
"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'"
The mysql.sock have never been in /tmp and on the production server it does not exist there and the production server is up and running correctly. If a link is created to mysql.sock(/home/user/boedge31/bobje/mysql) the job will start but return this message:
"Cannot retrieve <Version> from the repository. Additional database information: <SQL submitted to ODBC data source <localrepo> resulted in error <MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver mysqld-5.0.46-enterprise No database selected>. The SQL submitted is <select VERSION, SECURITYKEY, GUID from AL_VERSION where NAME = 'Repository Version'"
I checked and AL_VERSION and the Version field exist.
Before the shut down DS was working correctly and had no issues.  My best guess is a part of the repository was corrupted during the unscheduled shut down.  It seems like DS has "forgotten" some of the settings.
Any suggestions on a possible solution?

    The issue has been solved.
There was a bad path in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Removed the path and DS started working again.

Your biggest 'issue' right now is that your mysqld process is stopping on you -- making a connection impossible.
Why it's bombing might be in a log .. try in mysql/data/usr.local.err .. and fix why itsbombing.
To connect to it it'll be : mysql -u root -ppassword -D database

  • Mac not able to connect to SMB File Server

I'm having an issue with a Mac trying to connect to our file server. It was working before our company move but once we moved into our new building it stopped working. Our network settings stayed exactly the same except our router and firewall. It seems to me like it's a DNS issue because I am able to ping the server with the IP but when using the hostname is where it fails and also trys to ping an incorrect address. Our network is 192.168.X.X and it's trying to ping 69.60.X.X which seems like a outside address. I am able to ping the DNS server and seems to connect to computers with in the network but just not our File Server.

    Hello:
You will need to delete the keyboard from the other Mac.  Simply disconnecting it leaves it still paired with the first Mac.

    Hi Robert,
did you actually add the OVS to the server pool, that you created?

  • Am I required to save files to the Creative Cloud, or may I use a local file server?

Am I required to save files to the Creative Cloud, or may I use a local file server for in-office sharing?

You are not required to save files to the Creative Cloud.
The online file storage is merely and an additional service, but there are several benefits:
You file is backed up online in case the file is accidently deleted locally or your hard drive crashes.
Image previews of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop files in the web browser for someone who does not have these programs and would otherwise be unable to view the file.
Share the file with someone else allowing them to comment and download.

  • Connection problem local files on NAS

My local files in DW CS5 are stored on a Qnap NAS,
when I want to upload the files to the remote site,
most of the time it works, but I got a lot connection time-outs......
    Background activity
    Waiting for server........
    my computer setup,
Qnap 239 pro, Draytek router, Imac, CS5 Dreamweaver
    Any sugestion? thanks

The problem isn't with your NAS, it is in fact Dreamweaver. This has been a consistent issue since CS3 and Adobe has failed to really address it, unfortunately.
In the Dreamweaver dialog for managing your site (and depending on which version of CS you're using) there will be the following options for the FTP server connection:
Use Passive FTP - usually checked if you're behind a firewall/router - and this is usually the main culprit of this 'waiting for server' issue, I've found.
Use IPV6 Transfer Mode - this uses IPv6 connections and lookups and does little to actually improve performance in IPv4 networks, usually checked for the performance gains in true IPv6 connections (still rare as of this writing).
Use Proxy - as defined for your browser preferences, typically. Only checked if you're using a proxy. If you don't know what a proxy is, you're unlikely to be using one, but you can check your browsers proxy settings to see if it has any enabled by your ISP and check this box if it does.
Use FTP Performance Optimization - this basically turns on NOOPs - allowing DW to send NOOP commands to your FTP server to maintain the connection. Usually checked unless you cannot connect to your server with it checked (some servers do not support keep-alive's)
Use Alternative FTP Move Method - Frankly, I have no idea what this does as I've never had to use it. I do know it does not solve the 'waiting for server' issue, however, through trial and error.
And yes, Filezilla is so supremely good at FTP it makes DW look slow even when it's working correctly.
This is definitely a strategy I hope Adobe adopts - removing all the clutter from the FTP algorithms in Dreamweaver. All we need is simply FTP typically. I understand it's tied into RDS and everything else - but I hope Adobe unties it so FTP, which is still the most widely used protocol for updating remote server files from Dreamweaver, no longer has these unneccesary delays.
Hope that helps. Try passive FTP first - like I said, 9 times out of 10 - that's the problem (I could go into the details of why this occurs and why one solution is to set-up port forwarding on your router, but I won't )

  • Can't connect to local web server

I'm not quite sure when this happened; I think it was upgrading to iPhoneOS 3.x but I can't swear to that (currently running 3.1). Anyway, the problem is that, whether from my app or even simply using Safari, I can't connect to a local webserver. If I'm on one computer in my office (working over WiFi just like my iPhone), and type "http://192.168.1.110/file", where 110 is a different computer, Safari will display the page just fine. But if I'm using my iPhone in the office, on the same network, and type the same URL, it will not connect. For SURE this used to work, and I haven't changed any settings on my network or on my iPhone for that matter.
No problem with connecting to external websites, clearly.

Web services are not relevant to DNS host names.  You'll need to configure a default domain name for whatever is being used as the local domain, whether that is established via System Preferences or via DHCP settings.  If your Windows box is running a DNS server, you'll need to set the Mac DNS resolver address at the Windows DNS server.

  • Connect to local SAP server from mac

I have a Windows 2008 server  with SAP server software installed. i connect to it using my windows laptop through SAP logon pad . But now am using a macbook pro os x 10.8.2  and have no idea on how to connect to the my local SAP server. And i installed a Java SAP client logon pad for mac . And this client Logon pad has an "Add New connection option" but i have no idea on how to configure it ,any sugg?

The incoming connection will only be restricted to random ports > 1024 unless the server is configured otherwise. ie. you can't manually pick the numbers.
The OS X firewall (ipfw) can be configured to allow the incoming connection from a particular IP address - but I run Norton firewall so I don't know the specifics of configuring ipfw via the OS X interface.
I do know that the shareware program Flying Buttress (previously known as BrickHouse) gives a GUI interface to the full flexibility of ipfw.
I failed to mention previously that you might want to investigate whether the server supports SFTP (Secure FTP) which performs all the communication over port 22 allowing a simple firewall setting (at the server end) and also has the benefit of performing encryption on the data traffic.
