Is it possible to havedrop down lists in cells of a Multi Column List box(not Table)?

I was using a muticolumn listbox(not table,for table i have example code,and problem is that i was not getting active cell position for Multi column listbox) with 5 columns.In third column,i want to generate a ring control,generate in the sense,whenever user clicks on any cell of third column of multicolumn listbox(not table),the ring control should pop up.The thing is that i need to use only one ring control and whenever user clicks on any cell of a third column,this ring control should pop up.How can i achieve this,anyone please help me,

Wow, I took a look at the alternate code posted here at that really takes you through gyration (also a similiar comment I see on Lava) to perform what I've done with a few functions....

How to extract information in cells of a mult-column list box?

I have multi column list box. At run time this listbox allow me to select entire row (this is fine), how to extract the data from each cell along the selected row? It seems to me that the Multi column Listbox (MCL) is merely a 1D array (I guess index of this 1D array corresponds to row index of the MCL and value of the element corresponds to column index of MCL.)

To extract cell values of the selected row, you can create a property node for the MCL. From this property node, choose "Item Names". This is a 2D array containing all cell values. Index this array with the MCL terminal. Note that you must choose the scalar data type for the MCL. To choose the scalar data type, right click on the MCL and go to "Selection Mode"->"Data Type"->"Scalar".

How do i insert data into the specified column of the multi cplumn list box?
I have a table that containsall station nos and name.Then another table contains the data the various stations having at for 24 hrs.That is 12 am to 11 pm.
And i want to display each stations details as follows using a multi column list box/table
My stationinfo table
stnno   stnname......................
s1           stn1
s2            stn2
s3             stn3
The other table
stnno      sysdatetime       data
s1             12am                   1
s2              12am                   4
s1               1 am                 2
So the station s1,s2.... will have data for 24 hrs.
And i want to display it as follows using a multicolumn listbox
stnname        12am   1 am ......................................11pm
s1                   ...................
s2                 ........................
What i have in my mind is to get all station nos
and in a for loop get the station's data from 12 am to 11 pm
or
select every statios data for each hor.But in this case i have to query the database 24 times.So i dont think its a good way.
Or any other better query available?
Can anybody suggest me a good idea?
One more thing...how to insert data into the specified field row or column of a multi column list box?

How to prevent multi-column list box showing an extra column

I am using a multi-column list box to display data and to allow the user to enter new values. More columns are used than are actually displayed within the bounds of the listbox control. Using an event structure the user is able to scroll left and right along the columns of the list box to select the appropriate field. I am using the 'Edit Position' property to highlight the particular field that the user is selecting. This technique works well and the listbox scrolls left and right to display the selected fields correctly.
If the listbox has, say, 10 columns with only 5 being visible within the displayed width, then I clamp the Edit Position to a maximum column value of 9 to prevent the list box from continuing to scroll right into unused columns. This works fine, except that when the user scrolls to the 10th column, the listbox control always shows a blank 11th column. The 11th column cannot be selected. It would appear that this is default behaviour for the listbox control in that an additional column is always displayed relative to the Edit Position. In my particular application it is untidy to have this blank column appearing. I have tried a workaround by programmatically writing to the 'TopLeft' property of the listbox. This partially works by ensuring that the blank 11th column is never displayed, however, despite the Edit Position being correct to select the 10th column, the field in the 10th column is no longer highlighted and the user cannot enter a new value.
Does anyone know of a method for preventing the blank additional column from appearing?

Ok - I have attached an example which demonstrates the issue. This is produced with LV 2012. Open the project and then the 'Multi column listbox.vi'. Run the vi and use the right/left arrows to move between cells in the listbox. Observe that unused (unwanted) columns are always displayed to the right.

Filling a multi-column list box with a query

Hi folks!
I'm really very unexperienced with Oracle Forms so I wasn't able to implement the following problem. I have got a database table called 'employees' with the columns 'id', 'firstname', 'lastname'. In my form I would like to have a listbox containing all the entries of this table (based on a select ... from employee) but with only 2 visible columns (firstname and lastname).
My first question is, how to fill the list with the values from the query. The second question is, when the user selects an entry of the list (an employee), how can I get the ID of this employee?

A list item can have only two columns - one shown to the user and one invisible one which actually populates the item. In order to display your names you need to concatenate them into one.
Create a record group with the query:
select firstname||' '||lastname, id from employees
then in a suitable trigger (eg when-new-form-instance)
call POPULATE_LIST(list, recordgroup)

I have LV7.1 Dev Suite. I would like to create a table that I can have drop-down lists in any given cell of the table. Is there a way to do this with the "table" selection in the lists & tables section of the controls palette?

Another option that is a bit more extensible is to use a borderless VI launched when you click/context-click on the table. Use the mouse-down event to launch it. I don't have an exact example, but the attached context menu example (LV7.0) shows the basic principle and may be more what you want anyway. You can dynamically change the size and number of elements in the borderless VI to anything you want before you open it.

How to create a multi column list item and select these values from a LOV

Hi all,
My requirements are:
1) create an LOV which holds the productno, productname and productprice fields (this is working)
2) at run time, select one record from LOV and populate the list/grid with this selected record values of productno, productname and productprice fields, so we are showing them on the form in the form of a table/grid (not working)
3) be able to select multiple records from LOV and be able to populate the list item with multiple records (not working)
4) have two more columns in the list/grid, for productquatity and total price (not wokring)
Please help me.

If you use a list item to display multiple columns then you'll need to use a fixed-width font. You can achieve a similar look with proportional fonts by using a normal block and setting the fields' bevel to 'None'.
Each column in the LOV has a Return Item property (under Column Mapping Properties). Set this to a :block.item reference for each column to bring the data back into those referenced fields.
You can't select multiple records from an LOV. For this you will need to create your own form. Check the help for system.mouse_button_modifiers to see how to respond to Ctrl+click and Shift+click.
To add columns just modify the LOV's record group's query.

You can always take your Mac in and give it a check-up for free. What will cost you is the repairs you select to have preformed. I recommend shutting your Mac down before you go to bed. Problem solved. There is no need for you to keep it running if all applications are quit. Why do you need it on?

Programmatically:
Use "Active cell" property node, create constant and type "-2" in both elements of the cluster constant.
Note: the first element is for the raw, the second for the column. -1 and -2 have special meanings.
-1: header of column (listbox has no header for the raws)
-2: all cells (of raw or column)
So for example:
-2;0: all cells of column 0 (with header)
-2; -2: all cells (with header)
-1;0: header of column 0
-1;-2: header of all columns

Multi-select lists, their return values and showing their display value

I have a multi select list which is dynamic. The display and return values are pulled from a table where the return value is the Primary Key.
When people select a few options, the value is stored in session state as 11:12:13 (etc...). From here, I run these numbers through a process which takes a report ID and the multi-select string, and saves individual rows as Report_id, individual multi select value until there are no more multi select values.
This is great, they're tied in as a foreign key to the LOV lookup table, and they are easily search able.
I have trouble where I want to list a report's entire multi-select list. I have a function combine the numbers with a : in between them and RTRIM the last one, so I have an identical string to what a multi-select table uses. 11:12:13 (etc..)
When I assign it to display as an LOV in a report, it just shows the 11:12:13 instead of listing out the values.
Single number entries, where someone only selected one option in a multi select, display fine.
Am I doing this wrong?

Scott - you're right on the money. I did this initially because I thought assigning an LOV display value to a report column would yield the results I wanted.
I want to do this without referring to the original table... meaning I don't want a function to have to go out and get the names, I'd like my LOV assignment to do it. This saves headache of having to change something in 2 places if it ever changed.
Am I not going to be able to do this?
I created a test multi-LOV page, it doesn't work with original(not processed in my function) LOV assignments either, unless you only select one.

How do i create a Multi column Dynamic list using Swing?

I need to be able to do a file search (in a separate thread) on the hard drive and display the results in a multi column List control .
Jtable seems to be rather 'static'y. i.e load data in once. and maybe reload it again later. But i need to load one row in at a time as the search progresses.
Also any row can be deleted or moved to another position.
CListCtrl in MFC allows me to do this handily.
But Is there a way to do this using Swing?
havent seen anything that says JList can do this.

I would use JTable for that. I did not exactly understand what you meant by JTable being "static"y.
Anyway, I would have the thread update the data in the tablemodel behind the table and invoke "fireTableRowsInserted" (may be after every insert or after inserting a chunk of rows). I had a sample something similar to what you are working on. Let me know if you need the sample.
