Is it possible to take incremental logical backups via EXPDP in Oracle 10g

Guys,
I am curious that can EXPDP be used to take the incremental logical backups. If so then please let me know how it is possible.
Regards
Asif

There is no incremental specification clause like the one in the export command (INCTYPE). If you ever used the export incremental option, IMO it was not actually an incremental export, it was just enough for a table to change one row to consider the complete Table to be exported on the next exp execution. Not quite a practical approach, overall considering that regularly the more sized tables are those that frequently change.

  • Is it possible to take a full backup without shutting down an instance?(10g

    Hi. everyone.
Is it possible to take a full backup without shutting down an instance?
    The db version is 10gr2.
As far as I know, in order to take a full backup of a database,
one need to shutdown a database.
Our db environment is a RAC environment which has two nodes.
Yesterday, I heard from a hardware vendor that we do not need to shutdown
instances(2-nodes) in order to take a full backup.
    Best Regards.

    Hi,
    >>As far as I know, in order to take a full backup of a database, one need to shutdown a database.
In fact, a database operating in NOARCHIVELOG mode is necessary to shutdown the database in order to perform a full backup (Cold Backup), but otherwise a database that is operating in ARCHIVELOG mode, then is possible to perform a full database backup with the database in a open state. (Hot Backup)

  • Errors in Offline Backup via DB13 SAP & Oracle on Linux

OS: Linux Database : Oracle Systems Affected : Production & Disaster Recovery Server
    Hi
We have offline backup scheduled every friday via SAP the backup runs fine & copies all the files in the backup directory but when i go see the backup logs in DB 14 i see the Offline Backup ending with Error Code 0005 & when i see the Detail logs i see following in red
    BR0278E Command output of '/oracle/UHP/102_64/bin/sqlplus /nolog < /oracle/UHP/sapbackup/.beelhrfo.spi':
    BR0279E Return code from '/oracle/UHP/102_64/bin/sqlplus /nolog < /oracle/UHP/sapbackup/.beelhrfo.spi': 0

Also if i check the BRARCHIVE i see them ending with following errors in Detail Log

Please also note that we have a Disaster Recovery Server too & the above mentioned errors are in our (Production )Primary Database & once this backu finished the DR Server stops getting any log files, this happens only when this offline backup on every friday runs,
    Issues
The backup ends with errors although the backup file is generated & all data is copied
DR Server dont get redo log files after this offline backup on every friday

for the Cp errors i will see the permissions in backup/UHP ( this error is happening in online backup ) my main concern is the error occured in offline backup as it is somehow connected with our DR SERVER NOT GETTING THE LOG FILES EVEN AFTER THE SYSTEM IS UP ( yes if the primary is down no logs will be shipped to standby i know that but even after the primary is up after a offline backup via SAP via DB 13 the standby dont get any log files unless i restart the database and SAP )
So the error in the offline backup mentioned above in my post occurred at 29 OCT 15: 45  20
BR0302E SQLPLUS call for database instance UHP failed
BR0306E Start and open of database instance UHP failed
after this my primary database comes up & sap starts but the DR server dont get any logs & also the backup logs show the above errors in red
Given below is the text from Oracle alert file for the same time duration when the system tries to start the database & the above mentioned error comes up in opening the database time Stamp : OCT 29 15: 45 20
Deprecated system parameters with specified values:
    log_archive_start
End of deprecated system parameter listing
This is the only oracle alert log errors i can find relevant to database instance errors from DB 14
moreover in the alert file it also starts the data broker service relevant to i guess DR server in that all seems fine it starts everything then it gives this error & then keeps giving errors ( from oracle alert log file )
Error 12154 received logging on to the standby

for this i had use sequence and then trigger to increment it.Right. Some database products have auto-increment columns, and they are really handy. Unfortunately, Oracle does not have auto-increment columns. A sequence is an auto-increment object, and it's the right way to automatically generate unique identifiers, but you need to explicity reference the sequence, either in you DML statements, or in a trigger that will automatically fire before a DML statement.
but now i need to increment it in Procedure, while my procedure is having code to insert data in same table which has primary keyAre you saying that you need to increment the sequence, completely aside from INSERTing into the table?
If so, just reference sequence_name.NEXTVAL wherever you want to. In PL/SQL, you can say
    SELECT  sequence_name.NEXTVAL
    INTO    number_variable
FROM    dual; This works in any version of Oracle, but starting in Oracle 11, you also have the option of referencing te sequence without using dual, or any other table.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a complete script that people can run to re-create the problem and test their ideas.
    For example:
-- Here are the table and the seqauence that I created:
    CREATE TABLE table_x ...
    CREATE SEQUENCE ...
-- Here is the BEFORE INSERT trigger I wrote:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ...
-- The trigger works exactly how I want it to in statements like this:
    INSERT INTO table_x ...
-- So there are no problems (that I know of) with anything up to this point.
-- Now I want to use the same sequence to ...
-- so that when I execute a statement like this
-- then the next time  I add a new row to the orginal table, like this
    INSERT INTO table_x ...

  • Logical backup of a schema without taking the data of particular table

How can I take the logical backup of a schema without taking the backup of data of a one particular table?? I need to give the dump to the client but I do not want to give them data of one particular table.

    @Werner:
Requirement is to have a "logical backup of a schema without taking the backup of data of a one particular table".
I presume the requirement to have all tables with data and one table without data in a single dump file.
ROWS=N will not export any data for any table

  • Full DB logical backup Vs required scehams backup

    Hi,
In my database i am using only 2 schemas and have the grants on one schemas tables to another schema.
So, which is the better way to take the logical backup i.e. full db backup or only the required schemas backup.
    Please advice me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahi

    Hi,
    >>If we take full backups, while import there will be a chances to db crash or improper behavior."
    Why?
    >>IS it right, but i am saying that if we take the full backup we will not miss any grants etc..
Keep in mind that "grants" commands are also exported in a schema level ...
    >>So, please let me know which backup i have to take either full backup or only required schemas backup?
If you are so worry about it, I don't see any problem in take a full database export ...

Waiting for kind reply ... ...You must not use or treat Expdp or logical backup as the Backup which can be used for future purpose. Please search forums their are so many links you lan find out and so many people told many time.. even ORACLE suggest that.
Go for Custom backups and RMAn backups.

  • Full db backup using expdp

    Hi All,
My database version is 10.2.0.2 & I want to take full database backup using expdp.
This is the parfile I use.
    userid=system/manager
    full=y
    directory=exp_dmp
    parallel=4
The database size is 45 gb & the expdp dumpfile size comes to around 31gb. What can be done to compress the expdp dumpfile?
or is there some other parameters which i need to use?
    thanks

I agree expdp is logical backup.
In 10g compression=metadata_only is the only option that can be used, so that does not help to compress the backup.
due to size restrictions, i want the dumpfile to be compressed as and when the backup is running, how to achieve this?

  • What else in logical backups

    Hi, DBA Professionals,
If i take logical backup of full database, what else in the database to take backup.
is this logical backup will take only logical data or physical data?
if it takes logical only then what about row=y

could you please clarify my doubts.

if i take complete, incremental, cumulative backups of my database, if i loss whole database is it possible to recover it with logical backups. if it is yes, what is the method.
A "complete, incremental, cumulative backups" would be physical backups using rman. a "logical" backup would be an export (exp or expdp) dump. The logical backup can only be imported back into a working database, and would be a point-in-time snapshot of the data. With use of proper backup options, a proper physical backup can recover a database from a total loss, and to any point in time covered by the backups.
if i loss system datafile only what is the method to recover it using logical backups. There is none. That's why "logical" backups are only one part - and the least important part - of a complete backup/recovery strategy.

  • Is possible to take the Infopath form with two repeat section in one SharePoint list

Is possible to take the Infopath form  with two repeat section in one Sharepoint list
Take two repeat section and put them one bellow to other one in a SP list.
The motive is that the first repeat section is based in account own by the requestor and the second repeat section is when the requestor is doing backup time for some one else where need to log the amount of time that spend in the peer account.
I have basic logic in the form when requestor said Are you doing backup for some else? and press YES it is be able to use the second repeat section.

  • Incrementally updated backup and EMC NMDA

    Hello Everyone,
I'm kind of a newbie in setting up networker module for oracle, to backup database to tape. We use the oracle's suggested backup strategy to backup DB to Disk first using the incrementally updated backups with recovery set to 3 days (RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE WITH TAG ... UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-3') , which helps us to recover DB to any point in time using the backup files in disks vs. going to tape. After backup to disk, we backup recovery area to tape nightly. However, we do want to maintain backup Retention Policy of 1 month. Couple of questions,
    1. If i set RP to recovery window of 31 days in RMAN, then backups don't obsolete at all. this forces me to set RP in networker and they don't recommend setting RP in both RMAN and networker. how is this done generally to obsolete backups from tape as well as rman (catalog in CF) with above strategy. perhaps in this case i should set RP in netwoker and set RP in RMAN to none and rely on crosscheck and delete expired commands to sync with RNAM catalog.
    2. Wondering if nightly backup of recovery area to tape is going to take incremental from previous day and NOT full backup. The reason i ask is, i do not want the tape to do full backup of FRA every day cause full backup datafiles change once in 3 days based on the until time set. is there an option do set in networker to do incremental only or that's the default.
    Thanks in Advance!
    11gR2, 4 Node RAC, Linux, NMDA 1.1, Networker 7.6 sp1

    Loic wrote:
You do a full backup of the FRA on tape ?No, I do a full backup of the database on tape. Using RMAN together with Veritas NetBackup.
I mean if you use incremental updated backup it'll not work on tape... Because the level 0 backup that will be updated with the backup of the day after will be on tape and will not be updated. The incrementally updated backup is in the FRA only, on disk (both the image copy and the following backup sets that are used for recovery of the image copy). Never gets written to tape or updated on tape.
Why don't you use then normal incremental backup ? That will have no problem with the tape backup even if level0, or level1,2 becomes reclaimable... ?I think I do :-)
    Maybe:
To keep that you can put the redundancy to 2 out of 1 copy. Like this even with one copy on disk and tape it'll say keep the 2 copies.
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;I'll think about that.

Though you have got links already for using the exp/imp , I would strongly suggest that when you mention backup/recovery, RMAN is the tool that you should be using. Exp/imp is/was never considered as a backup tool. You should read this paper to get the answer of "why rman" ?
