How can I take the logical backup of a schema without taking the backup of data of a one particular table?? I need to give the dump to the client but I do not want to give them data of one particular table.

    @Werner:
Requirement is to have a "logical backup of a schema without taking the backup of data of a one particular table".
I presume the requirement to have all tables with data and one table without data in a single dump file.
ROWS=N will not export any data for any table

Create a test file with Text Edit (or any other program) and save it to your desktop.
Run Time Machine from the menu bar.
When the Time Machine icon in the menu bar stops spinning, drag your test file to the trash.
Open Time Machine and go back 1 page. You should see your test file on the desktop.

  • Tracking the logical backups' success

    DB version:10.2.0.4

We have 45 schemas in one of our critical production DBs.
Apart from the RMAN backups, we take logical backups of all the business related 45 schemas.
A shell script is dynamically generated and executed every day to take EXP backups of all these 45 schemas
I need to create a PL/SQL code or Shell script which will notify us through email if any of the EXP commands have failed.
What is the 'professional' way to do this? We already have the Email sending PL/SQL procedure ready.

Time Machine spends hours partially backing up and then fails with "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem."  I've tried various suggestions I've seen on the forum but nothing has worked.  TIme Machine worked fine for the last two years and just suddenly started having this problem every time.  The only thing that was a little different is that the computer was off for a week while on vacation and then I added a large amount (20 GB) of photos. Now the requested backup size is 82GB, which is large, and process proceeds very slowly for 2-3 hours before failing with the message mentioned.  I have more than enough available backup storage space for it.  Before failing, Time Machine has backed up no more than 12GB or so of the backup.  It fails during different files each time.
I've turned off the computer sleep feature, and I've checked that the NAS is set to never automatically power down. I normally backup over Wi-Fi, but I've also tried connecting to Ethernet and it still has the same problem.  It's odd because I also have a MacBook Pro that is still backing up fine to the same NAS using the MacBook's Time Machine.
I am using an iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and an Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS.
I have system logs that I can share if helpful.  The logged messages vary a bit from run to run, but here are some messages that I've been seeing:
I always get this message near the beginning of the backup:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
I've gotten this messsage a number of times:
    Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.

I doubt it's a problem with something in OSX being damaged or corrupted, but reinstalling OSX isn't a major hassle, so might be worth a try.
To be incompatible with Snow Leopard, this NAS must be at least a couple of years old.  It may be beginning to fail.
Contact the maker.  See if there's an update to make it compatible with Snow Leopard.  If so, that might fix it.
If not, or if that doesn't fix it, see if they have any diagnostics that will shed any light.

  • TM could not complete the backup

Yesterday I took my iMac and Time Capsule to the Genius Bar and were able to get my initial full back completed. This morning I got "TM could not complete the backup" in a popup window with "The backup disk image /Volumes/Data-1/{username}'s iMac.sparsebundle is already in use."
Later on clicking the TM icon in the menu bar I see "Latest backup failed." Opening TM Preferences I see that it thinks it is backing up with the horizontal barber pole running and a message to the effect that it is making space available. Then, oops, my screen goes goofy and I finally get a "Latest backup: Failed" message and another "The backup disk image /Volumes/Data-1/{username}’s iMac.sparsebundle is already in use."
I suppose that every hour it's trying to do a backup but it fails because it thinks the backup disk image is in use for some reason. Can anyone help?

    grokgrok wrote:
With Finder I checked dates of files that I have created and they say January even tho I didn't get this iMac until March. But TM's backups have the correct dates. The date on my menu bar is correct. Mysterious.
Indeed. The only similar occurrences I've heard of were caused by the system date being changed; anything created then would carry a bogus date.
But you might check +System Preferences > Date & Time.+ Click +Open Language & Text,+ then Formats, then Customize in the Dates area. Make sure everything there makes sense; a small oddity there can cause weird date display problems.
But worse is that backups are now failing again saying my sparsebundle is already in use. And the sparsebundle has the old name with embedded space and punctuation. I've verified that my computer name, local host name, Time Capsule name, and network name are all the new name but my sparsebundle has the old name. I'm really not sure if it had the new name yesterday and reverted or if it always had the old name. Does it need to have the new name? What should I do about this?
    Good questions.
Are you sure the sparse bundle isn't mounted anywhere?
Another is, has all this been happening via WIFI? If so, try connecting via Ethernet for a while. If it stops, that should be a clue!
One possibility is to delete the sparse bundle (or erase the TC's disk, via +*Airport Utility.+* Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase), and let Time Machine start fresh.

  • WD MyCloud - Time Machine Couldn't Complete The Backup; how to fix?

I use Time Machine to backup my 3TB iMac (v. 10.8.5) with a 4TB WD MyCloud drive. It has worked fine for a few months, until I one day received the message "Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “*******”. An error occurred while copying files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk.".
This happened despite there being 1.3 TB of free space, and the firmware being up to date (v04.01.02-417).
I've tried turning off Time Machine on the hard drive's dashboard and rebooting it, hoping it would solve the problem. Instead, when it looked as though it was going to back-up ("Backing up 0 KB of x GB"), I got that message again.
I also tried connecting the network cable directly to the computer so I could use Disk Utility (Version 13 (450)) to repair it, but the application kept freezing.
It's not the first time this has happened to me. I originally fixed the problem by simply erasing the entire hard drive and starting again from scratch, only this time by following the MyCloud manual carefully step by step. I never thought I'd have to see that message again.
I don't know if it has to do with the way I turn off the hard drive; I usually do it every time I'm about to switch off my computer. I once tried to do so via the menu bar, but despite waiting, the HD is still switched on and running. Instead, I usually disconnect the cable as long as there's a blue light showing (having read the WD manual on this matter).
Please let me know if you have any solutions.

if i take complete, incremental, cumulative backups of my database, if i loss whole database is it possible to recover it with logical backups. if it is yes, what is the method.
A "complete, incremental, cumulative backups" would be physical backups using rman. a "logical" backup would be an export (exp or expdp) dump. The logical backup can only be imported back into a working database, and would be a point-in-time snapshot of the data. With use of proper backup options, a proper physical backup can recover a database from a total loss, and to any point in time covered by the backups.
if i loss system datafile only what is the method to recover it using logical backups. There is none. That's why "logical" backups are only one part - and the least important part - of a complete backup/recovery strategy.

  • HT4910 Why do I get "The last backup could not be completed"  Last backup: 5/4/12 at 11:16 am?

Why do I get "The last backup could not be completed"  Last backup: 5/4/12 at 11:16 am every time I try to back up my iphone 4s?  I also get a message that my iphone hasn't been backuped in 32 weeks?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Time Machine Backups".  The backup disk is not available.

I have received an error message today - Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Time Machine Backups".  The backup disk is not available.
I am using a WD 1.5tb  Help!!!  Everything is on there and the files are not showing.  The WD SmartWare icon is on the Desktop but the Time Machine icon is not.  When I save a file I open the Time Machine file and save it in there.  What do I do?  How do I get my files back??  I do not keep anything on the macbook pro.  Help PLEASE!!!

    Hi Yaann,
Thank you for your reply.  Yes I did try that, but no luck.
After several hours of calls to a very unhelpful WD and further calls to Applecare, there was nothing anyone could do.  Out of frustration when holding the WD 1.5TB hard drive, I smacked it (NOT recommended).  Well, to my surprise the WD reappeared on my devices list.  Let me tell you, I pulled my files off as fast as I could on to my MacBook Pro.  I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I confirmed that everything transferred back to the MacBook Pro fine.  I spoke with the Applecare tech and he talked me through the set up on a new Lacie hard drive.
What I can say is that after further research into external hard drives and now personal experience - Lacie is the top of the line and you get what you pay for.  I would NEVER ever recommend a WD to anyone.  Given one, I would still through it away.
    I was LUCKY.
I must say the support and understanding I received from Applecare was outstanding!!  I would never own a apple product without applecare and from long term experience it is worth every penny.
    All the best,

  • Is it possible to take incremental logical backups via EXPDP in Oracle 10g

    Guys,
I am curious that can EXPDP be used to take the incremental logical backups. If so then please let me know how it is possible.
    Regards
    Asif

There is no incremental specification clause like the one in the export command (INCTYPE). If you ever used the export incremental option, IMO it was not actually an incremental export, it was just enough for a table to change one row to consider the complete Table to be exported on the next exp execution. Not quite a practical approach, overall considering that regularly the more sized tables are those that frequently change.

I also noticed when I go in to Time Machine, there are only about 5 backups recorded on the ext. hard drive. There were many more before. Any idea what happened and if I have to buy a new back up hard drive?

    Hallo  Kieth ,
I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles, descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .

  • The operation can't be completed because backup items can't be modified.

In my Time Machine backup, I have also stored backups from my previous Mac. They do not appear in the "Star Wars" screen. When I try to delete files I receive the message: "The operation can’t be completed because backup items can’t be modified."
What does this mean, and is there a way to delete said files?
(My Time Machine backup is plugged in and running. The files are not even sent into the Trash, so my question doesn't relate to whether the files will delete from the trashcan, etc.)
Many thanks in advance for any and all help!

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to delete. Right-click or control-click an item. From the popup menu, select Delete All Backups of... Confirm. Exit Time Machine.
