Is it possible to use CC 5.7 to compile for Solaris 6/7 platforms?

Hello,
we are currently upgrading to the new CC 5.7 from CC5.2 (Forte Update 1). One advantage we notice is the new, simplified licensing scheme, and hence the possibility to get rid of the license server installations. However, we still have to support our product on Solaris 7 (and possibly, though unlikely, Solaris 6).
Because CC 5.7 only installs on Solaris 8, the question is whether it would be possible to cross-compile for those older platforms (e.g. via -xarch). (And use our Solaris 7 installations only for testing, not compile-purposes anymore.)

Programs built on Solaris 8 usually will not run on Solaris 2.6 or 7, no matter what compiler you use. Sun Studio 9 (C++ 5.7) supports only Solaris 8, 9, and 10.
You need to build your applications on the lowest version of Solaris that they are intended to be run on. Maybe you could build on Solaris 7 using FD6u1, and again on Solaris 8 using Studio 10 for customers using Solaris 8 and later.

Using Flex 2 SDK to compile for Flash Lite 2.0

As I understand Flash Lite 2.0 is a stripped down version of
Flash 7 (that is ActionScript 2.0) with a couple of things added
for mobile specific things. But is it possible to use the free Flex
2 SDK to compile a SWF that will run on Flash Lite 2.0 (or Flash 7
for that matter).

I'm not familiar with Flash Lite 2.0, so maybe I shouldn't be
answering this, but I've used the SDK for several projects and I
believe that like Flex Builder it requires at least Flash 8. So, if
FL is comparable to Flash 7, I doubt if it would work. Just my
humble opinion, but hope it helps.

Hi,
we have filters in which variables with interval are being used, as well as planning functions in which a variable with interval should be used.
In the planning modeler everythings works fine. But I have problems to fill values for these type of variables. The error message "specify a value for variable xxx " is always generated. I know it is possible to do this (with VAR_LOW & VAR_HIGH instead of VAR_VALUE).
Can someone please help?

Is it possible to use the snow leopard install disk for bootcamp setup?

I'm going to be installing a windows 7 partition through bootcamp on my macbook, but I can no longer find the two original install disks that it came with. So my question was whether or not its possible to go through the bootcamp process with the snow leopard install disk?

If so, then yes. use it.
Sounds to me like the Original Install Discs you refer to are OSX 10.5 Leopard ones, right ?
These won't work with Windows 7 since Windows 7 requires OSX Snow Leopard DVD at minimum for the Driver Installation and BootCamp Assistant version 3.x as well, which is also only avaiable in OSX Snow Leopard.

Possible to use Time Capsule as back up for one computer and not another?

Here is what I want to do. I want to use this as a router wireless router for wi-fi. I have a mac so I want my data to be backed up automatically. now my brother also has a laptop and want him to use the wifi, but i dont want him to access any of my backed up files. is this possible? what are the steps? he has a pc thanks.

Yes, I did some research on the echolife and I don't think it has WDS functionality available. I do have another 3Com router that I'm thinking of firing up again. I know it has WDS functionality. The question is, would the Time Capsule be compatible with it in order to extend the network? I am not keen to shell out for another Apple base station if at all possible.

You should not have any other traffic on the dedicated FT vlan.

Note Do not use this dedicated VLAN for any other network traffic, including HSRP and data

Having any other traffic on this vlan could cause a problem with FT heart beats being dropped, and both ACE could become active. Definitely use a dedicated FT Vlan.

You can use iPad as the display for your mac mini. but it will be your secondary display .. i.e. you need to have a primary display other that iPad.

I have disabled NWAM in Solaris 11 Express and now I'm trying to set up a wi-fi connection with dladm and ipadm only.
I reached a point where all seems well configured and I can even ping my on dhcp leased address.
But I can't ping the default gateway, for example.
I get something such as "Network unreachable".
This is in spite of "netstat -rn" shows a reasonable route.

When I have it disabled I'm not being able to ping other addresses but my own.
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if nwam is doing something else under the hood when it's enabled.

Using pipe IO in Labview 6 for Solaris

I need to be able to communicate with a process from Labview. As I'm
using UNIX pipes seem to be a neat way of achieving this. However,
I've never used them before and am a little confused. Specifically the
"open_pipe.vi" requires "path to named pipe" as an input. How do I
determine the what the path to a named pipe is and/or how do I control
the name of the pipe if I open it first in the process I need to
communicate with?
As I understand it I will need two pipes - one to write to and one to
read from.
Any advice and pointers to web resources would be appreciated.

A pipe is essentially a file in UNIX (with some special features). For 'path to named pipe' you give it a path like any other file. The file is a fifo
(First In First Out) and is used (as you suggest) to communicate between applications. The main problem you will run into is that the application must understand how to use the named pipe. If it can't do that then you will have to come up with something else.
The basic operation would be:
Use Open pipe to create the named pipe file.
Start the application and point it's input / output
to the named pipe.
Use the Read and Write to communicate.
You should also realize that the read pipe, will read x bytes so you must know EXACTLY how many bytes to read. If you read too many you will simply get some part o
f the next item.
I have tried to use these before and never had any real success since there are so many problems with the process.

I am a photographer who is seriously thinking of purchasing a Chromebook to utilize for both online and offline editing while in the field. I'm wondering if it is possible to use a Western Digital "My Passport for Mac" to store and retreive my images as an external drive for both storage and retrieval using a CB.
Does any one know if I will have to do any special formatting to use this drive with a Chromebook? And, if so, what do I need to know/do to do it?
