Is it preferrable to use iPhone 5 to accommodate the new iOS 6 than maintaining my current iPhone 4S? The battery life is not that good after updating my iPhone 4 S to iOS 6.
I've updated my iPhone 4S with the latest iOS 6 but battery life had never improved as I expected. A friend of my had recently replace his iPhone 3GS with iPhone 5 and both us compared our simillar daily usage of browsing, emails with attachments (work related), messaging (via iMessage, WhatsAppa, WeChat) games, facebook, tweet, uploading, etc, it seems that iPhone 5 last longer by 35-40% compared to my iPhone 4S. By. The time he hits 60-55% on his iPhone 5, my iPhone 4S Is less than 15%... My Questions to the community or any Apple Consultant, is it preferrable to replace my beloved iPhone 4S with iPhone 5 in order to accommodate the performances of iOS 6 and the "coming soon" iOS 7? Is it a practise to replace every iPhone when there's a new iOS update? Please advise.
It largely depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
Your question is much like asking "I have last year's model car. This year, the car has some new features. Should I trade in last year's model and get this year's?" Well, maybe. It's your call.
Each newer generation introduces some new features and capabilities.

I am very disappointed with the battery life I am getting out of my Iphone 5S 64G. I charge it every night, and would be lucky to make 15 to 20 minutes of calls during the day and yet I am lucky to get much more than 12 hours of life out of the battery.
I have to make a conscious decision not to use it to avoid it running out on me. I had it back to the Apple Store last week and they ran diagnostic checks on ot and said that the hardware was within specs.
They replaced the software as it was showing that Springboard had crashed on several occasions. The other problem I was complaining about was that at least 2 or 3 times a day, the phone would refuse to wake up when I hit the home button. It would take sometimes up to a minute of pressing the button before anything would light up. The guy at the Apple store said that this was caused by Springboard crashing and that this would also be what is reducing the battery life.
I did notice that after they replaced the software, the waking up problem appeared fixed for a few days, but the battery life had not improved. Now the waking up problem is starting to return.
It is very annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you are with a client and go to make a call and your shiny flashy new Iphone 5 won't even light up. Especially when you have to borrow your clients Nokia....My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Batteries have an expected number of charge cycles before they degrade and you begin to experience diminished battery life. While heat is a factor that will afect this, overall the number of charge cycles the battery has will remain fairly constant.
You will find if you are using the phone the way you are you would be charging the battery more often and it is this increase in the number of charge cycles that would be shortening the battery life. Does that sort of answer your question? -

I recieved my iPhone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life completely *****! After doing a few things and maybe using it for about 30 minutes the phone start overheating like crazy then the battery starts dropping very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? And is anyone else expierenceing these problems?
It sounds like you have an app that is incorrectly continuously using data and power... from normal use the phone should NOT be getting that warm... only constant video playing via data like Netflix for example would result in that...
I'd say that you should remove all apps in the recent app tray... tunr phone off... then once you power back on...
Hold BOTH home and sleep wake buttons together until you see a white apple symbol... then release both buttons...
This will ensure you have no apps running...
I've experienced a hang up with mail while out and about that has resulted in this on my iPhone as well... Once I performed these steps it was fixed... it seemed like it got stuck and that's what caused the warm phone and battery drain...
I notived that when it gets stuck (mail app that is) I will see the text connecting at the bottom and it never changes to "updated" like it should... this is my trigger that it's gotten stuck.
Have not really figured out what causes mail app to get stuck yet... -
my iPhone is about 6 months old now and I would say I don't use it that much. Yet for the last month or so the battery life has been going down and today after having charged it to 100% this morning, it was at 5% at 4 pm this aft. help!!
Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue: Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry. In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System) computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net. I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS. Its just the nature of the beast...

i dont know why the battery life of my iphone 4 is so low ! i really want to know how many hours i'll have if it's on standby. And how many hours if i use it normally for music and facebook (sometimes a little bit games) !!!
to enhance your battery life, keep screen display to minimum, set screen lock automatically after 1 min, select internet notifications to off.

I have never been so disappointed with an Apple Product such as the Iphone 4s. When I signed up with a new 2 year contract, I received my iphone 4s. I charged it fully the night before, then it didn't even last the day (with minimal usage). I turned off Location Services, Wi Fi, and Bluetooth, this helped a bit. But what is the point of turning these services off, when I NEED THEM!!! The wonderful new Siri doesn't work properly without Location Services turned on.
So I upgraded to the iOS 5.0.1. version - that did absolutely nothing to assist the battery life.
Apple, what are you going to do about it? My new Apple phone is a LEMON!
If I had of known how bad the battery life is on the iphone 4s, I would have got a Samsung Galaxy 2!!!!!It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems. -
My Iphone 5s shows "No Service" in the specific network area, but if the same sim card is used with other mobiles in the same network area, it shows good network.. i did restore,change sim card, reset all the settings but still not working... please help me..

Hello all, was just wondering what with the new update iOS 6.1.3 for the iPhone 5, is the battery life back to normal? I am still on iOS 6.0.1 because after all the bad things about battery life i heard with 6.1 and subsequent upgrades i just decided to stay on 6.0.1. I am really nervous to upgrade to 6.1.3. Is the battery life fixed?

I too, on my 4S before i got the 5, had 5.0, then 5.1, 5.1.1, 6.0, and so on til i got the 5, which came with 6.0.1, i just stayed there... I have never had battery issues with any of my iPhones. If i do, i have the warranty so i will go to apple store and they will fix it.

i would like to know if using a auto charger on my iPhone 6plus will reduce the battery life or cause any other issues with my phone.
An alternative is to use a 12v USB power plug and then just use the standard lightning cable to connect with a length of your choice ( to some degree)
Same rules apply use a premium manufacturer rather than a cheap no-name from eBay -
