Is JVM shared by Forms (9i) runtime process?
Hi,
I am currently testing the Forms 9i for our future project and would like to understand how good is Java/Forms_Runtime interoperability.
If a form invokes Java code (imported by the Importer), does the Forms Runtime Process share a JVM or it always creates a new instance? The documentation says that a new instance of JVM is always created. I developed a small test Java class, imported it with the Importer, invoke its method (a method runs about 30 s.) from a form's trigger and deployed the form. I run 2 simultaneous clients, each client form calls the Java method on the server. I can see 2 "ifweb90" processes but it looks like they share the same JVM. At least, a number of java processes was not increased on the server. Could it be true (with Forms 9i)?
Frank,
thanks a lot for your reply.
So, it looks like the Forms Runtime Process (ifweb90.exe) instanciates the Oracle own JVM (so called virtual JVM) for every session (with imported Java). And each mini-JVM shares somehow a general JVM (java.exe where the OC4J is running). Now the question is - how can I specify some initial parameters (i.e. memory size)for this mini-JVM? My java method does a memory intensive operation and as a result, its execution fails.

Forms session 125,296 aborted: unable to communicate with runtime process
Forms 10g version on Hp unix.
We have about 400 users are using 10g web based application. Our users get the error "There was a failure in the forms server during startup. This could happen due to invalid configuration.
Please look into the web-server log file for details."
web-server log file it says
'Forms session <125,296> aborted: unable to communicate with runtime process.'
It is not reproducible error. But it happens to everybody at random time/form/database which makes big impact on our business.
We are in the edge of backing out of oracle forms due to this error
Any help will be appreciatedWould be a really bummer if you backed out of Forms and found the problems were because of network glitches ;o)
You need to do a bit a scratching around to get more details on this.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10g/troubleshooting_fls.pdf would be a good place to start. Chances are, network glitches are cause a disconnects but you need to confirm this by using the techniques described in this paper.

Forms runtime processes and prestart settings
Hi
I have an App Server 10.1.2.2.0 and this is running on Windows 2003 64-bit.
In my formsweb.cfg file I have the following settings:
prestartRuntimes=True
prestartTimeout=0
prestartInit=5
prestartMin=5
When I start Forms services I was expecting 5 runtime processes to start however I actually get 25. I'm not sure why but is this because prestartInit is multiplied by prestartMin? I thought there would be initially 5 runtime processes to start with and this would never go below 5, i.e. prestartMin=5.
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks
AndyHi Andy,
I agree with your expectation to see 5 processes. But maybe the others come from different configuration-Sections in formsweb.cfg.
We have tested a bit with prestart, but I think our real requirement (let's say I want to have betweeb 5 and 10 spare processes available all the time and not only for q couple of time after restarting OC4J) cannot be fulfilled with IAS 10. Hopefully with 11 we'll see.
kind regards,

Forms Runtime Process and OC4J - Can I separate them?
Hello,
I was reading a Oracle Application Server Forms 10g material.
One thing that come to my mind was that can Forms Runtime Process
run in physically different host than OC4J J2EE Application Server?
Does anyone have any information of this issue?
Cheers!Hi,
you cannot separate the runtime from OC4J. But you can separate the HTTP Server from OC4J

Hi,
It is my understanding that only one forms runtime process is spawned per session.
Is this the case? So everytime you call a new form you shouldnt be opening a new
forms runtime process correct?
Thanks!Hi
CALL_FORM, OPEN_FORM, NEW_FORM are the Built-ins that will help us in creating “Multiple Form Applications”.
This built-in is used to invoke more than one form in a single session.
So everytime you call a new form you shouldnt be opening a new forms runtime process correct?If you are using
NEW_FORM, you are starting a new form and terminating the current EXISTING form.
OPEN_FORM opens the new Form but also keeps the calling form open and running.
The third way to execute another form is the
CALL_FORM builtin. This would call a new form and suspend execution of the calling form. Once the called form is exited, the control is returned to the calling form.

Use of mouse scroll wheel in Forms 6i runtime
Is there any way to make the mouse scroll wheel work in Forms 6i runtime? Does it work in some areas and not in others? Ultimately, the user would like to use the scroll wheel to navigate through rows in a block instead of dragging the scrollbar. We also have data in a particular row and column that has scroll bar. I'm hearing that in some instances it works, don't know if I believe, not sure if it's workstation dependent. Client workstations are generally XP.
cherylI think (can't ckeck at the moment) that an animated gif will only run when deployed on the web (you need the JVM)
As I said, I think this is the case but can't confirm it at the moment.

PJC set_custom_property gives unable to communicate with runtime process
Hi
I am modifying a PJC that extends VTextItem to act as a hyperlink I have registered a property in the PJC with the following code:
public static final ID activeColor = ID.registerProperty("ACTIVE_COLOUR");
I then attempt to set the property from my form with the following code
set_custom_property('icr_block1.icr_details',lv_rec_number,'ACTIVE_COLOUR','45,213,169');
icr_block1.icr_details is a text item that has the PJC as its implementation class. The following error appears in the java console
oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Forms session <5> aborted: unable to communicate with runtime process
Anybody have any ideas?

FRM-93652: The runtime process has terminated abnormally.
Hi All,
I have installed oracle forms and reports 11.1.2.20 with weblogic 10.3.6 and jdk version 1.7.0_45 on windows server 2012.
I have 2 application migrated from 6i to 11g and deployed on application server in one of these tow application when trying to run report from forms i got the following error:
FRM-93652: The runtime process has terminated abnormally.
Contact your system administrator.
But in another application, reports is running successfully although i used the same code to run report using run_report_object and DESTYPE=CACHE and DESFORMAT=PDF.
Any help for this issue.
Thank you for your kind cooperation.This doesn't look to have anything to do with WebLogic
and certainly nothing to do with JDBC, sorry.

Does anyone know how to enable/disable a dropdown menu in Forms at runtime?
Is there a way how to disable/enable dropdown menu for menus that have multiple sub levels in Oracle Forms? I am trying to use the set_menu_item_property function but this takes 'menu.item' format for the first argument. I am trying to enable/disable a menu item in the form of 'menu.item.subitem' and was not able to do it using this function. If anyone knows a different function or method, please reply. I have shown an example below.
Setup -> Software -> Front Page
From the above example, I can enable/disable Software using set_menu_item_property function. But, how do I enable/disable the Front Page menu in Oracle forms at runtime?
Thanks
Edited by: user480347 on Aug 24, 2010 3:37 PMYes you are on the right track. You need to pass then complete menu name to set_menu_item_property
Immediate_parent menu.item_name e.g
For example you have menu like this
Id like
A1 A10 > A1010
Home > Input > Form 1
A1 A10 > A1020
Home > Input > Form 2 To disable Form 2 you must pass menu name as
A10.A1020Hope it helps -
Oracle Forms 10g runtime handling during RAC node failover.
Hi,
Forms version 10g R2 (10.1.2.0.2)
Oracle DB version 10g R2 RAC with 3 nodes.
If the RAC DB node that the user is connected to goes down, the user gets FRM-40733 and ORA-03114 error messages and the client forms application gets locked down/ goes in a loop with the error messages. The user has to close the browser to get out of the loop. I understand that this is the expected behaviour, but I'm wondering whether we can trap the error ORA-03114 and fire the "key-exit" trigger to get out of the application.
Have any one implemented a clean way to exit the Forms application when the RAC DB node goes down..?
I'm looking for some suggestions or an elegant way to handle the above failure.
Thank you in advance.
SudhakarGlen,
I haven't solve this one yet.I have been playing around with the following:
In my environment, I am still using 6i (not web) forms/reports.
My clients are XP, NT, 2000.
I have the forms/report runtime installed on their PCs.
Their TNSNAMES.ORA will be pointing to PRIMARY ( PDB)
If a SWITCHOVER or FAILOVER happens to the physical standby (SDB), I want a trigger to kick a batch file that will manipulate the TNSNAME.ORA on each clients stations.
On the standby
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER change_tns
AFTER DB_ROLE_CHANGE ON DATABASE
DECLARE
role VARCHAR2(30);
dbname varchar2(100);
BEGIN
SELECT
DATABASE_ROLE,
DB_UNIQUE_NAME
INTO
role,
dbname
FROM
V$DATABASE;
IF role = 'PRIMARY' and dbname='SDB' THEN
dbms_scheduler.create_job(
job_name=>'move_sqlnet',
job_type=>'executable',
job_action=>'c:\temp\movetns.cmd',
enabled=TRUE
ELSE
-- if the standby >was< PRIMARY,
-- but the primary comes BACK on line,
-- need to reverse the step above.
END IF;
END;
As for the movetns.cmd
something like
rem -- attach to the workstation,
net use m: \\station name\share name
rem -- stdb_tnsname.ora would be pointing to STANDBY
copy stdb_tnsname.ora m:\orant\net80\tnsname.ora
net use m: /delete
rem -- need to do that for all workstations..
As you can see, there could be lots of problems with this procedure.
Client doesn't know about the failover, starts a RE-BOOT on the pc, therefore, the new tnsnames.ora will not get to client.. what to do for that client? Do i re-run the batch ...every hour?
tell me if you come up with an answer..

Hey guys,
I'm having some major issues installing PE8. I can open the installer screen fine, and it installs fine until it gets to installing the Air Runtime Process. I have left it downloading that one process for about 5 hours, and i'm not exaggerating. Finnally, I get too mad waiting for it to finish that I exit out of the installation process. Even though the installation was never fully finished, for some reason I do have a Desktop icon for PE8. I click on that and it opens the splash screen with the buttons "New project", "Open Project", and "Organize". When I try to open "New Project" it begins loading the files that it needs to to open it. When it gets to loading the Windows Media file, it freezes and then crashes.
I have uninstalled the PE8 and reinstalled it about 5 times now. I have also used the Windows Cleanup program to clean these corrupted files out of my system before reinstalling. I have called in twice now to the technical support and they haven't helped me one ounce. Any answers would be appreciated! Thanks
Thanks Again,
Spencer

Object Referenced Error When calling the Windows Form during Runtime
Hi,
I am getting Object reference errors when running windows form during runtime. In debugging mode in MS Visual studio 2005, I am not getting this error. I'm calling the window form from menu and called the window in a thread as suggested in one of forums . I don't see anyone in the forum mentioned this problem I have. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Below are the error and code samples.

I have a few questions about how best to handle a few things in a form I am working on in Designer ES. I am hoping to use out-of-the-box services for as much of this as possible.
* I have a dropdown (DropDown1) which will be populated from a database. Now, the content of my next dropdown (DropDown2) is dependant on the choice the user chooses for DropDown1. The options for DropDown2 are also in a database. Ideally, I'd like to have the data for DropDown1 prepopulated wen the user first opens the form. But what is the best way to populate DropDown2 after DropDown1 has been chosen? Do I preload all of the options when the form is rendered and just bring up the ones I need on a change event on DropDown1? Or can I query ES when I need the info?
* In another part of the form, I have a dropdown for a list of applications (the list is in a database). For each application, I have a different set of data I need to request from the user (i.e for Application A, I need to know installation location and serial number, for Application B, I need to know serial number, a date needed and a username, etc). So I'd need a customized subform for each applciation. Is there a way to say, bring in a form fragment from the Resources in ES and insert it into my subform on the fly when on a change event on the DropDown?
Thanks in advance!
TempletonYou can dynamically compose a form at runtime via as3.
Here is a quick example.
HTH.
ps: afaik there is no component which automatically builds a form from xml.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" initialize="init()">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.TextInput;
import mx.containers.FormItem;
private function init():void {
var formItem:FormItem = new FormItem();
formItem.label = "FormItem1";
var textInput:TextInput = new TextInput();
formItem.addChild(textInput);
myForm.addChild(formItem);
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Form id="myForm">
<mx:FormHeading label="My Form"/>
</mx:Form>
</mx:Application>
