Is there a a good cd software program out there like Jam 6.0.3 that will work on 10.7 or later OS? One that will crossfade individual songs on your playlists?
I am happy with 10.6.8 but I have to upgrade to 10.7 or later to run a drobo set up that I need and Jam will not run on the intel.
I have imac  2.7 i5 intel with 8 ram running 10.6.8.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, I'm not sure it does what you want, but only thing I can think of is Audacity...

  • I tried to download images from a jump drive and now the jump drive seems blank. How can I recover the images? Is there a software program out there to do this reliably?

I took photographs with my Lumix camera (JPG) and put the sd chip into a jump drive and put them into my usb port to load. The images never loaded and now the sd chip has no images when I put it back into the camera. What can I do to restore the images? Is there Mac compatible software out ther to restore them? I am running a Macbook Pro OS X v 10.7.5. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure I can help you with this situation. Odds are you probably can't recover the images if they aren't hidden in the card, but this just seems to be a fluke. I've had flash drives that be plugged in only to find out that was their iminant death.

  • Is there a good basic mastering program out there? Is it PEAK?

I'm just doing demos...but I want them to sound decent... just the basic volume levels... setting up the tracks and the spaces between the tracks... What are my choices?

Essentially the basic mastering chain is this:
EQ - Compression - Peak Limiting
Make your multitrack mixes nice and dynamic with tons of safe headroom and NO EQ or peak limiting on the master fader bus. Then set up a new session, even in Logic, and load up just your stereo mix of the song you finished. Set up a channel strip with these three plug-ins, EQ, compression (maybe multiband), and then a peak limiter to set your final loudness. If you don't have good metering, then use some of your favorite CD's as a general EQ and loudness reference. Turn some knobs, be very subtle with the compression, don't push it too loud, make sure the beats still have punch, and then bounce that file. Then you can export that mastered file and dither it to 16 bits so it's CD ready. You just mastered. If it sounds like crap, then send it to me or your favorite mastering engineer. We'll gladly provide the service.
In the pro mastering world, your audio is very likely to get processed thru analog gear. But for quick and dirty home brewed mastering, this is the very basic concept. The pro's will have extremely accurate metering that will show RMS average loudness. The ratio between the average loudness and the peak loudness is a critical aspect of true mastering. Read articles or books by Bob Katz. He really knows how to teach the science of calibrated monitors and meters for mastering. It really does get very deep for high quality work, but many people just don't have the budget, and simply want something in the ballpark. Key knowledge and lots of experience really pay off in mastering.

  • Any Patient Tracking Program out there?

Does anyone know if there is any simple patient tracking program out there?
Functions that will be needed is patients demographic information, name ,age, sex, number of times they visited, patient number visits in a single day, as well as a way to bill them and invoice upon visit.

If there is nothing specific you can research FileMaker Pro for any ready made forms they might have that would be similar in nature to what you want.

iMovie projects do not like being zipped. Unless you have the unzipped original you will have to create the project again.
Furthermore there's probably no point in trying to zip it.  Many media formats such as mp3, AAC, mp4, jpeg are already compressed and compressing again just adds overhead (making them bigger) as well as placing them in a format that is hard to recover anything from should something go wrong.

  • Why are there so many apps and wearable tech out there that specifically focuses on losing weight?

I'm under weight and would really like to see some apps for people like me who want to gain about 30 lbs!

Why are there so many apps and wearable tech out there that specifically focuses on losing weight?
Because there's a 35x bigger market for it.
Percent of adults   age 20 years and over who are overweight, including  obesity: 69.2% (2009-2010) - http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/overwt.htm
...an estimated 1.7% of U.S. adults aged 20 and over are underweight - http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hestat/underweight_adult_07_10/underweight_adult_07 _10.htm
    I suggest you type
    weight gain app osx
into a search engine.  I did and one came up on the top line (no idea if it is any good, you have to determine that yourself).

My iPad mail is synced to my private email account, which I organise on my iMac. On iPad, I can only see inbox and sent messages folders, not any of the other folders in my email account I have created on my iMac. How do I get iPad to show my other folders? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there.

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

  • Any Better EMail Program Out There for Macs?

I used Eudora as my email program for 10 years and loved it. Unfortunately, it became very buggy on the Snow Leopard operating system. Entire mail boxes got corrupted. So, I had to find a new mail program. I was told that Apple Mail was the best and have been struggling to have it meet my needs for the past few weeks.
Is there any other program available out there that is more like Eudora, but still supported with a new version for Snow Leopard - or at least an be run on this operating system?
    Thanks!

IMHO, Mail is the best. It will take a lot of getting used to for someone migrating from Eudora, though. I used to use Eudora as well, but gave it up years ago in favor of Mail.
Thunderbird will have some features that Mail lacks, but in turn lacks a lot of the polish and some very basic features that Mail has. For example, my wife was trying just two days ago to send a message to a subset of a group defined in Thunderbird's address book, and after ten minutes of both of us trying to figure it out, we finally gave up and she used _pen and paper_ to note the addresses. Doing this would have been trivial in Mail. These sorts of little not-uncommon niggling issues would prevent me from ever using Thunderbird myself.
You could also try [MailSmith|http://www.mailsmith.org>, which was a pretty compelling mail client once upon a time, but which I haven't looked at in many years.

  • What other pro video software is out there for Apple?

Since I can't install FCS2 on my new MBP running Lion, what else is out there in professional video editing that I can install on Lion?  Any suggestions?  I've looked at Final Cut Pro X, but everyone is complaining about it....

Avid Media Composer 5.5.3 works on Lion.  $995 for anyone who has a previous version of FCP (normally $2500).
Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5.  Also $995 for owners of FCP.
Both on sale for a SHORT time (been on sale all month), so get them while you can.  The one most like FCP is Premiere Pro.  Avid is mainly for broadcast TV and film.

  • Is there any Free, nice looking Squirrelmail theme out there?

All the themes for Squirrelmail looks like s*.
Are there any nice looking ones out there?
I've seen some packkages you can buy, but they look like XP!
I think apple should have designed their own theme to ship with SquirrelMail that follows their otherwise clean look, so you notice you're logged into a mac box!

    I wouldn't go that route.
It's not just a matter of applying a different skin. Squirrelmail only knows about themes, which in essence are just color table variations.
The themes you can find on the internet ( http://nutsmail.com/ / http://www.voxthemes.com/squirrelmail.php ) actually tap into all of SquirrelMail's source pages. In other words they modify SquirrelMail per se. This also means that you will need the theme supplier to supply you with an updated version of Squirrelmail each and every time there are changes.
What you can do is choose a color scheme of your liking and do a few adjustments of your own. It won't look like http://www.voxthemes.com/squirrelmail.php , but if chosen wisely it will look good enough.

  • How do you play songs in your playlists now?

When I click on my playlist - it seems to only play one song. The playbutton in the viewing frame doesn't seem to work. Is the idea that i now have to add songs in my playlist to this new "up next" feature to play an entire playlist? If so that seems like a step backward.
Thanks for any thoughts and help you might have.
    *UPDATE*
Is seems that all of my songs since upgrading are now un-checked. The solution was to select all songs in the library, right click the selection, and click on "check selection"
Things are now working as expected

I'm getting very confused about all this.
It seems like, if I'm using a playlist of podcasts, and the playback is set to random, then only one song/track/podcast will play - and then it'll stop. When I check "Up Next", there's nothing there.
If I turn off the random playback, then it plays through, and "Up Next" shows the next items in the playlist - in the playlist order. So the way to play podcasts is to play them straight through. You're not allowed to play them randomly, for reasons that utterly escape me.
With audiobooks, I don't know what the **** (EDIT: ha! even that word is blanked?! I thought I was restraining myself!) is going on. Some playlists will let me do random play, and others will not. I have no idea what distinguishes one from the other.
In sum: with podcast playlists, random play doesn't work at all - only one track will play. With audiobooks, that is sometimes an issue.
Thus far music playback seems to be fine and largely as it should be.

  • HT204406 How Do You Add Songs To Your Playlists With Match?

I bought a subscription to iTunes Match.  I'm using iTunes 10.6.3.25 on a PC with a Windows 7 OS. When I attempt to drag a track from my music collection to an existing Playlist, a window containing the following warning appears on my screen:
"iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library.
If you continue, this (name of Playlist) will be removed from iCloud and will be available on this computer."
I can click onto my choice of one of the two boxes below the message.  One says Remove Playlist & Continue.  The other says Cancel.
I'd like to be able to add songs to my Playlists at any time and set Match so that it backs up the Playlist.  How can I do this and avoid the above message that I'm receiving from Apple?

I was having this very same issue and by reading through the posts I learned to update iTunes Match. I subscribed to iTunes Match a while back but for some reason, maybe through an iTunes update, iTunes Match was switched off. I turned it on and it updated. After that I was able to add songs to Playlists. Hope this helps, if you haven't already figured it out. Cheers.
