Is there a null value in labview?

how can I pass a null into an array?

Where? When at what?
Do you mean a NULL pointer instead of an array for instance to a Call
Library Node? If so configure the array pointer to be an uInt32 passed
by value instead. Now wire an integer with the value 0 to that terminal.

  • Is there a null value that I can put into a byte array?

    I have a byte[] that I'm trying to make smaller, at the moment, in order to do so, i'm writing it byte-by-byte to another byte[] called temp. Both are set to the same size, because I don't know exactly what the initial array will compress to.
    For example, my method will write a single byte that will tell the decompressor to carry out the next instruction 5 times (eg aaaaa = 5a), but after the instruction, I want to set the 4 a's afterwards to an empty value so that I can then iterate through temp, finding out how long to make the output byte[] by counting how many null's there are.
    Eclipse is telling me null is not possible to use, I was just wondering if there is an equivalent I can use?

    That's an idea!
    The only thing is then when I come to iterate through the byte array to write it to my output array, it throws up an error that I'm trying to compare a byte to a byte[]:
              int next = 0;
              byte[] n = new byte[0];
              for (int i = 0; i < temp.length; i++) {
                   if (temp[i] != n) {
                        output[next] = temp;
                        next++;
              return output;

  • Problem with QofQ and Null Values

    Just converted from CF5 to CF7. Finally figured out what was
    causing the error message :
    "The value "" cannot be converted to a number" when running a
    QofQ. It happens whenever there is a NULL (and I think a ZERO)
    value in the QofQ. I'm using the QofQ in a seperate chart program.
    The main query merges data from a store and a region table.
    I'm doing a LEFT OUTER JOIN to combine the REGION with the STORE,
    AND so that stores with NO SALES for a given day will show up as
    ZERO. On the main report, when I don't use a QofQWhen grouping by
    DAY or MONTH, I can test the value in the CFOUTPUT for NULL or ZERO
    and display "0" or "N/A" on the report.
    But when I try to chart it, using a QofQ to read in the
    values from the main query, and format the numbers, I get this
    error message. I've tried using the CAST function, using FLOAT,
    DOUBLE, BIGINT, etc., but still get same error message.
    The only way I could fix this is to add a WHERE statement to
    the QofQ, that only includes sales values greater than ZERO. But
    then, I have gaps in my chart because stores with NO SALES for a
    given day or MONTH don't appear. Because they are removed from the
    query. The whole point of LEFT JOINS is to include items with no
    values (or NULL) values.
    Does anyone know if it's possible to keep these values in a
    QofQ? So that items (e.g., store locations in my case) with NULL or
    ZERO values for some or all days or months can be charted? Even
    with a ZERO value? I've read everything I can get my hands on
    regarding QofQ, the CAST function, etc., but nothing seems to work.
    Thanks for any help. (FYI, didn't have this problem with CF5. It's
    QofQ could handle NULL or ZERO values without providing an error).

    Well, I tried the IsNull function on the 3 SUM() values I was
    calculating in my SELECT statement (on a LEFT OUTER JOIN QUERY),
    and I STILL got another "cannot convert "" to a number" but this
    time the error message was more direct, and pointed me to a DATE
    field in my query, where I was SORTING AND GROUPING either by DAY
    or MONTH (depending on what user selected on form).
    In my QofQ, I'm not just reformating the integer SUM()
    values, but also the date values. So, I applied the IsNull()
    function to the DATE values in my main query. I still kept getting
    errors. But after experimenting ((SQL Server BOL docs doesn't give
    ISNULL() examples for DATE FIELDS, only NUMBER fields), I tried
    putting the dates in SINGLE QUOTES in my IsNull() function, the
    QUERY RAN. Then I wasn't sure WHAT date to enter, e.g., 1/1/1889 or
    1/1/2001, etc.
    Then, I discovered, after experimenting, that you cannot just
    blindly enter ANY date when using IsNull in a date field,
    especially if you are using CFGRAPH to chart the results by day.
    You have to select a date within the date range the user selected,
    so this means using the FORM.DATE (or URL.DATE) value from the
    form. Here's the working example from my SELECT main query:
    SELECT SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldb,0)) AS SumOfDB,
    SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldbv,0)) AS SumOfDBV,
    SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldbi,0)) AS SumOfDBI,
    <CFIF '#url.reptype#' IS "DAILY">
    ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#') AS depday
    <CFELSE>
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')) AS TranMonth,
    year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')) AS TranYear
    </CFIF>
    Then I discovered that whatever date was used in the URL.DATE
    field (in my case it would be one of the two date field from the
    form, and depended on whether you coded DATE1 or DATE2, the chart
    would always show ZERO values for that date. So I tried putting the
    IsNull() date values in the GROUP BY and ORDER BY statements, e.g.,
    <CFIF '#url.reptype#' IS "DAILY">
    GROUP BY ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#')
    ORDER BY ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#') DESC
    <CFELSE>
    GROUP BY year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')),
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#'))
    ORDER BY year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')),
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#'))
    </CFIF>
    And this worked. The report ran just fine, and the chart
    charted every value correctly.
    I guess you have to learn all the little "quirks" about CF7
    and how it's QofQ and chart programs work. But so far, so good.
    Thank you all for your help. Now I've got to update other old
    CF5 programs that are returning errors when there are null values
    from my LEFT OUTER JOIN queries. Will take some time, but at least
    I know how to do it. Thanks to your help.
    I really appreciate your time and efforts to help with this
    issue.

  • Column values shift towards left for null values when export to excel

    Post Author: pssuresh
    CA Forum: Exporting
    All,
    I have a strange problem when using crystal report 10 export through C# Code. Consider in a row there are 3 columns and i am exporting to excel. ex.Student_id,Student_name,Student_Section. If Student_name values are null, then student_section values get displayed under student_name. There is a column shift towards left when there are null values. If anybody has already faced this problem, please post ur answer.
    Note:  When i just export to excel directly from crystal report, it works fine. i face problem only when i export through .Net code. I guess it is the problem with some formatting through code. if any body has fix, let me know.
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply. Even i have done the same thing yesterday to solve that problem. But we have nearly 100 of reports and started migrating now. The best solution crystal reports suggest is this.

    Have a tab delimited file, in UNIX
    Some of the inbetween columns have null values
    The records are failing to load with null column values.
    I tried:

  • How no to select lines with NULL values

    Hi,
    I am not a newbie newbie in SQL but I do not understand why I cannot retrieve the lines where there are null values.

    Regards

    Dear Phani
    This is required as the combination should be treated as the Unique key for the table otherwise for the entries where we same say NULL values are considered as duplicates by MDM. Selecting both the fields is with OR condition and combining them is with AND condition.
    Please close the thread if answered.

  • Superposed fields when null value

    Hi all,
    There is one repeating frame , say R1, which contains two other repeating frames , say R2 and R3.
    The group of R1 is the master group , and the groups of R2 and R3 are details of R1's group ( foreign key ) .
    I have created a formula column in the two detail groups , one in each other , and they may return null.
    My problem is when the return value is null then all the fields below the two fields associated for the formula columns come taking the place of the two fields , something like they are put over the two fields. And the report is not very good to look at this moment.
    I have tried to anchor each detail repeating frame to the text label of the field but the problem is not resolved. The report is even more bad when there is null value.
    So how to prevent this problem of misplacement.
    Thank you very much indeed.

  • Write NULL value in 2D array

    Hi,
    I use LabVIEW 6.1 for some speed measurements. Sometimes it happens that my software was not able to calculate a speed or it finds the found value not worth mentioning, and that is OK.
    And after the measurements I write the results to Excel in a 2D array using DDE. But when there is no speed recorded Labview fills up the empty spaces with zero values. But I don't want that because it will affect my statistics like the mean.
    Is there a way to write NULL (empty) values to excel instead of the 0?
    Thanx in advance.
    Illustration:
    (x) (y) VALUE
    1 2 23.5
    2 3 45.78
    3 4 <----- Here I don't want LabVIEW to put a zero (0) but an empty space.
    4 5 12.23

    Excel does not support the concept of NaN so if you do not want to convert to string first, insert NaN yourself into your 2D array and modify the cell update to check for NaN and do not set the cell value if NaN

    OK, your problem is that you are not submmiting the values to the other page. When you do the
    --> document.forms[0].submit();
    in JavaScript, the form has to action defined
    --> <form name="form1" method="" action="">
    So, the page does nothing. The line following the submit just changes the location of the page, IT DOES NOT POST the values.
    One solutions is the following:
    1.- define an action for your form:
    <form name="form1" method="POST" action="'save_paper.jsp">
    2.- Then create a JavaScript function that validates the fields and simply return "true" if the form is correct, and false if there is a problem (just a little modification of the one you have).
    3.- Then modify your submit button:
    Instead of:
    <input type="button" name="Save" value="Save" onClick="validateField()">
    Try:
    <input type="SUBMIT" value="Save" onclick="validateField();">

    In this case, how can the user differentiate whether the records is contain empty value of null values in DSO? This is kinda of hard to differentiate the both scenarios above. Is there any way to differentiate the scenarios described here?
    Thanks alot =)

    Hi Fluffy,
    It depends on the initial values of the data type
    The inital values For quantity/Currency/ Numbers it takes spaces as 0
    for char it is SPACE
    We cannot differeniate between space and null values.
    IF you have to force this then define quantity as char and load the data. we will not have units and aggregation in this case.
    Hope this helps.

  • Null value handling in LOVs

    Has null value handling improved any in HTMLDB 1.6?
    If my LOV has "Display null"=Yes (default null value is %null%) and I need to pass in a database NULL to a After Submit process, I need to do add a After Submit computation for each of these LOVs with something like
    CASE WHEN :P1_ITEM='%null%' THEN NULL ELSE :P1_ITEM END
    I have a couple dozen LOVs on a page and it is getting tiring to go and do this on each and every one!
    Is there a better way?
    Thanks

    Hi Patrick,
    we are currently moving over to Apex 4.02 and are doing some smoke tests on our existing apps.
    I have come across an issue with your generic solution to the %null% issue above (incidently, for a long time it's the first piece of code I include when I start a new app... thank you!)
    We found that a lot of our SQL Query (PL/SQL function body returning SQL query) reports were failing due to the session state of the LOVs still having a session state of %null% even after the RemoveNulls application process had run.
    After debugging your generic process we found that the LOV_NULL_VALUE in the APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS view has changed from NULL to '%null%'.
    so the fix was as below:-
    BEGIN
        FOR rItem IN
          ( SELECT ITEM_NAME
              FROM APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS
             WHERE APPLICATION_ID   = TO_NUMBER(:APP_ID)
               AND PAGE_ID          IN (TO_NUMBER(:APP_PAGE_ID), 0)
               AND LOV_DISPLAY_NULL = 'Yes'
               AND LOV_DEFINITION   IS NOT NULL
    -- change here
               AND LOV_NULL_VALUE  = '%null' || '%'
        LOOP
            IF V(rItem.ITEM_NAME) = '%null' || '%'
            THEN
                Apex_Util.set_session_state(rItem.ITEM_NAME, NULL);
            END IF;
        END LOOP;
    END;Cheers,
    Gus.. (always a fan of your work!)

  • Null values in Numeric fields of Datasets

    I am wondering if anyone has run into this problem before and
    checking to see if anyone has an elegant solution.
    I have a rather large data set. (actually 5 of them on a
    single page) I am sorting certain columns in a table as numbers so
    i assign the variable " ds1.setColumnType("somenumbercolumn",
    "number")" In most cases Spry works great and it sorts by numbers
    properly. The problem is some of the fields in the XML file are
    null and I am trying to sort them as a number. Spry actually
    adjusts for this (as far as i can tell) and treats them like a 0
    which isn't exactly ideal considering there are real zero values in
    the data. I know spry doesn't currently format numbers:
    So here is my question. Does anyone one have a solution to
    fixing null values in a table so that it is still sortable but
    doesn't display a "0" and instead displays something like "--" or
    whatever. I have the option of editing the XML file as well, but I
    still need the table to sort by number.
    If not null values, how about non numeric fields which can
    still be sorted in a numeric column?

    Hi,
    We have an old post that raised a similar problem with yours.
    The post can be found
    here
    For you situation, you should add an if condition for the
    rows that have 0 and to add a custom string instead 0.
    for (var i = 0; i < numRows; i++)
    if(rows
    [ "field_name"] == 0)
    rows[ "field_name" ] = '--';
    Hope this helps you,
    Diana

  • About xml and null values in 10g

    Hi, I have an UCM GetFile webservice component wich receives 4 arguments, two of them are null values (rendition and extraPops), and the xml request generated by obpm is:
    <GetFileByName xmlns="http://www.stellent.com/GetFile/">
      <dDocName>V_123410</dDocName>
      <revisionSelectionMethod>latestReleased</revisionSelectionMethod>
      <rendition/>
      <extraProps/>
    </GetFileByName>The problem is: On UCM web service, an empty tag like <rendition/> is treated like a "empty string" value, instead of a null value, and then the response i get isn't the expected.
    What I want do to is change this behavior, and when I put null values in requests, the obpm should not write those tags. Is that possible?
    Should be like that:
    <GetFileByName xmlns="http://www.stellent.com/GetFile/">
      <dDocName>V_123410</dDocName>
      <revisionSelectionMethod>latestReleased</revisionSelectionMethod>
    </GetFileByName>Thanks!

    Hi,
    I have question regarding aggregates. It's possible to read data from BW aggregates? We have webi reports on a SAP BW multi cube and we would like to optimize retriving query.
    >> Because you are using the BW Query as the source all the items that you have done so far in terms of aggregation, indexing, ... is all valid and there are no specific steps required to leverage it with Web Intelligence. Make sure the aggregates are "correct" meansing that they do reflect what you are asking for in the Web Intelligence query panel
    How can we filter in webi query null (#) values. If we create condition that some variabe is diffrent from # we still get null (#) values in report.
    >> You should be able to create a variable. in case you tried that already could you be more specific ?
    thanks
