Is there a way to prespecify the size of the window of an application?

I want the preview.app to open in a certain size. Like 1000x900 on a 1920x1200 screen. In X you can do such things with .Xresources. Is this possible in Mac OS? It would help since preview.app fits the window to the document and I have to enlarge it everytime I open a new document.
Thanks!

I would strongly recommend checking out the Moom app in the Mac App Store. Moom gives you a great level of control over window size. You can make any window full screen, or use presets to make windows half width, half height, etc. It solves a lot of the problems with OS X window handling (and there are a lot of problems).
You can create your own window size presets, too, on a per-app basis. You could create a 1000x900 window and position it in a specific place on a 1920x1200 screen. If the app won't remember that, you simply apply your preset.
It can also save multiple-window layouts, even across multiple monitors, in case you need that...
