Is UDS  installation is must to connect MII to OSIsoft PI

Hello all
1.  Is UDS  installation is must to connect MII to OSIsoft PI.
2.  Is there any alternative method to connect to OSIsoft PI  with out  UDS server.
Regards
Rajendra

Hi Rajendra,
you must first install the OSI PI API and then the UDS Framework in order to connect to OSI PI with MII using the UDS.  If you're not too sure what to use, a good "testing" option would be to install the OSI PI Client tool on the box which you're going to install the UDS - it will include the API Library.
I haven't used the PCo to connect to OSI PI but I'm assuming the process is the same as with the UDS (I think you need to use 2.1 to retrive data too, but I'm not sure).
There is another way to connect to OSI PI (and I'm putting my head up here to be shot), using an OleDB connection.  This also allows you to do more complex queries to PI as opposed to the standard Current, History, etc...  I don't know if this is still available and I know this isn't as robust as it should be :).
Hope that helps.

  • To use this tool you must first connect to server.

    Hi all:
I am new to Oracle. After installing Oracle 10g I tried to run it but I had Directory Server Connection window popup. It said "To use this tool you must first connect to server. Click on the OK button to select a server". I did not see any server I could choose. And also during installation I had warning or error message but I chose to continue installing.
Please help me to get this fix....

  • Pco connectivity ( MII and Wonderware system) Info required

    Hi Experts,
We're connecting MII 15.0 box to Wonderware systems using Pco 15.0 SP03 what are the configuration details/credentials/parameters required for a successful connection to Wonderware system? What are the details that we need to emphasize on from the wonderware side to ensure a successful connection?
    Regards
    Rajeev

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for all the advice. We need only OEE related data from wonderware historian systems and therefore we have two options:
    1)    SAP Pco.
    2)    JDBC connection to their historian sql database.
We would like to know which the best option from these two is.  As we know SAP Pco requires additional installation and configuration. Pco is having the advantage of a notification feature as well. We can keep monitor the change of value in a tag.
But at the same time Historian tag values are stored in a SQL database which can be connected from MII. I understand that SQL database doesn’t have notification feature but still we may pull the data through a query which runs on a scheduler.
Also, since OEE dashboard refreshes every minute, then probably the real time data that we can fetch via PCo (for eg every sec,15secs etc).. might not be that productive since OEE dashboard might not display it.
    What's your suggestion?

Upon upgrading iPhoto, iPhoto Help no longer works.  It gives the error message:  "The selected topic is currently unavailable. To see all iPhoto Help, you must be connected to the Internet."   I am obviously connected to the internet since you are reading this.
I tried upgrading permissions but it did not help!?  Can anyone tell me what is wrong?  Thanks

    Try
Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
    Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources.

  • "Your computer must be connected to the internet to perform this operation" during sync.

My curve had this error message:
"your computer must be connected to the internet to perform this operation. Please ensure that you are able to connect to the internet and try again".
Worked fine with desktop manager 4.6...
update to 4.7 blew it up...
found an article to fix.. regedit and change hklm \ software \ reasearch in motion \ blackberry\ syncronize
change State from 1 to 0
    worked fine....
    till the 5.0 update ...
now it does not work again and this key does not even exist anymore.
Of course there is internet and there is no firewalling enabled or any application which would block this traffic, no proxy settings, routing issues etc....
There has to be answer to this issue.. I know I am not the only person with this issue.

    Hi,
You only need to connect onve, and then you satisfy the request.
I have run into this twice, and I cannot logically explain why it occurs.
On the first install I finally connected the PC directly to the cable modem, after disabling the firewall software.
It did take about 6 hours with Kapersky to ensure it hadn't got infected. That was a friends DM 4.5
The second was was out of total frustration with version 4.7. On my network.
I , like you, have routers and firewalls in front of the cable router if I had had a packet sniffer it would have been easier to trace.
I reasoned that the PC and applications like explorer and Outlook could access the internet with out fail.
I then tracked the default IP gateway address for my PC.
In Windows click on Start, then on Run, and then type "cmd" and press Enter to open a DOS window.
    - In this window type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
    - The screen will display the IP options for Ethernet the submask, etc.  "Default Gateway." is what you need.
    - Copy the the default gateway's IP address.
I then started the Blackberry device manager and opened the Blackberry Hardware properties icon in the systray.
I was trying to see if I could find what the desktop manager was trying to access or at least what path it wanted.
I found the Blackberry Router configuration tab.Click on the bottom right "turn on user defined routes".
So basically you can provide a bypass route "static route". I entered my PC default gateway address, hit apply and OK.
I did a cold boot of the system, started the DM and it never whimpered, just hit the internet and I could access the
sync options. This worked without changing any firewall or router settings. I purposely left it all in place as that
IP gateway worked for any other program on both my PC's. (I have setup mu PC to device the home network.
After running steady for a couple of weeks, I went in and removed the bypass address. The 4.7 install has yet to miss a
    beat.
Well I probably broke 87 FCC regulations, all of the RIM agreements but it worked for me.!
If I'm not here tommorow have a drin for me at the party!
I have just installed the Desktop manager 5.0 and never had the problem.
So basically it's your call !
The worst that can happen is it doesn't work and you narrow it down further, the best that happens is you get connected.
I would recommend getting a  " sniffer" program. This is the one suggested by Blackberry in the KB article
(Packet capture  tool (such as Wireshark®)
Let us know what you think.

It looks like the installation files are being shared over a terminal services connection (based on what you are saying, I'm guessing you're using Hyper-v and it's using TS to present the files).  I always run into mixed results when I run installs from
a path not local to the server.  Can you copy the install paths locally and rerun setup?

  • Does Time Capsule receive Wifi signal? or it must via connected via cable to a router?

    Hi everyone,
I would like to know if the new Time Capsule 2TB receives wifi signal or if it must be connected via a cable to our router.
    Thank you so much,
    Regards

The recommended connection method would be to connect to your modem or router as Apple illustrates in the Time Capsule Setup Guide
However, if you already have another Apple router providing a wireless network, the Time Capsule can connect using wireless, and also "extend" the wireless signal from the main Apple router.

  • PI UDS - Installation Best practices

    Hi all:
Per the installation guide the only requirement is to have the PI API installed on the same box as the UDS.
I have the following questions on installing the UDS Framework & PI UDS. Appreciate your answers:
    1) Can this be installed on the xMII server with along with the PI API/SDK?
    2) Can this be installed on any machine with the PI API/SDK installed?
    3) What operating systems does it work with and Is a server class machine a requirement?
    4) If the only option is to install this on the PI server, are there memory or CPU requirements to runs this?
    5) What is the expected network data packet size and frequency? I’m assuming this is a background task that continually runs.

    Srinivasan,
1.) I would highly recommend the native connections vs OLEDB is every case where you can get to the data you require from the native xMII UDS. The only reasons you would favor the OLEDB UDS is in cases where you can not retrieve the data from the native xMII UDS.
As for the instabilities, we feel that we have resolved all the issues in the upcoming release, but if you still find a situation where the xMII UDS fails, please send in a support case and the appropriate fixes will be done.
The current known issues with the 4.0.2.5 xMII OLEDB UDS are as follows.
    - Unicode characters are not always correctly handled.
    - Administrative modes are not accessible.
    - Other smaller minor fixes.
    - The connection string dialog is populated and encoded correctly.
    2) Currently the new xMII UDSs are in Acceptance Testing and there is no access to the xMII OLEDB UDS. We are all trying very hard to get this through the process as quickly as possible, but with testing resource issues, it may still take some time.
    Martin.

  • Connecting MII to PLC devices

    Hi gurus,
There are PLCs from two vendors on shop floor. Siemens Simatic and B&G. Do PLCs have capability to be connected directly with MII? They donot have DCS,MES and I believe that OPC servers are vendor specific. What'll be the best way to connect PLCs with MII? Is it possible to do that without OPC server coming into picture?
    Thanks
    Musarrat

    Hi Musarrat,
    In addition to Kedar.
For Siemens PLC and SCADA system:
you need to configure OPC Server into PLC with port and all settings and permissions (under step 7 that is the software for PLC code development)
you can get manual for siemens PLC from siemens forum there you will find out how to cofigure OPC server.
than you can access this configured OPC Server from PCO or UDS whatever you want.
For Rockwell PLC and SCADA systems.
you need to configureOPC Server under RSLinks Software provided by Rockwell only
than you can access this configured OPC Server from PCO or UDS whatever you want.
For B&G i have no idea but almost PLC system supports OPC Server.
    hope this help!!
