Issue consuming Odata feed with Power Query (not in Power BI)

I am trying to consume an OData feed from an SSRS report using Power Query ( latest release on Excel
2010 x32). The Report server is in my company intranet.
In the SSRS report, I can generate an Atom service file. When I use this file in PowerPivot, I can successfully import the report data and refresh it on demand. But I
would like to do the same thing in Power Query using the "From OData feed" feature.
1. I have tried supplying the URI to the service file
= OData.Feed("file:///C:/Users/Bdarbonneau/Documents/temp/Manuf_cycle_time_mapping_table.atomsvc")
I get this error :
DataFormat.Error: The supplied URL must be a valid 'http:' or 'https:' URL.
2. I tried supplying the URL that the service file contains, but without success.
= OData.Feed("http://myssrsserver:8080/ReportServer?%2FMANUFACTURING%2FArchive%2FManuf_cycle_time_mapping_table&rs%3ACommand=Render&rs%3AFormat=ATOM&rc%3AItemPath=Tablix1")
I get this error:
DataFormat.Error: OData: The given URL neither points to an OData service or a feed
Am I missing something, or is what I am trying to do not supported ?
Regards,
Bertrand

My Current workaround for pulling data from SSRS until the dev team have worked out the odata issue is to pull the report in as a csv file:
Csv.Document(Web.Contents("http://Servername/ReportServer?/SummaryReport&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=Csv")),
I also tried pulling an excel file from SSRS with no success.
Tried:
Excel.Workbook(URL)
Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents(URL))
Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(URL))
Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(Web.Contents(URL)))
if anyone has had luck pulling in an excel file from SSRS i would like to know how.
Is there a rough release date for the odata functionality?

I imported the OData with "Other Sources" , from OData Feed, with anonymous access.
When I try to use the Score function with parameters, I get this error:

  • Share Power BI Document with someone else not in Power BI?

Can I share a Power BI document with another user/anonymous user that is not in Power BI and have it render correctly?
In my testing, the sharing link in Power BI requires a login. The sharing link in the document library opens the document but does not render the Power View sheet.
Is this the expected behavior or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

there is limitation on the file size for anonymous access. It's 10 MB if I remember correctly.
Could you please try a small workbook?

    tbrraccd_grnt_Code      30-60                    60-90         over90
    400364                      20,241.90              2119.86       7,370.09
if your confused about how i arrived at the 7370.90 is because i have to subtract entries with GCSH on them and i also need to take
entries that are - and applied them to the oldest period if the balance of the period is positive. im inclined to say that i can do this with sql but the only other way i can think of is using plsql?... any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
the closest that i have gotten to acomplishing this query without pl is this. i know is lame but i need help.

           --sum(case when round(sysdate - TRRACCD_TRANS_dATE)>190 then "greater then 190"end )
           FROM TRRACCD

                    TRRACCD_TRANS_dATE,
                    trraccd_detail_code;

    Hi, Miguel,
I should have mentioned this before: I'm assuming SYSDATE is some point on January 22, 2011, after 00:00. I don't think this has caused any confusion so far, but if the discussion continues for a day or two, let's be clear about that.
I think I see what you want regarding the rows where trraccd+detailcode='GSCH'. If we completly ignored all the GSCH rows, we would get this output:
    TRRACC       0-29      30-59      60-89    90-over
    400364   ...
400404   19904.97    6625.27    4757.01   67618.68You want GSCH amounts to cancel other amounts in the last column only until that column reaches 0 ; the remaining GSCH amount will cancel amounts in to "60-89" column, again, only until that amount reaches 0 . If there is anything left over, it will cancel amounts in the "30-59" column, and if there is still some left over, the "0-29" column.
To be specific, trraccd_grnt_code=400404 has a total of 72475.69 from GSCH rows. That counts against the "90-over" total.
67618.68 - 72475.69 = -4757.01; you want to dispaly 0 in the "90-over" column, and apply the remaining 4757.01 to the next column to the left.
That column contains 4757.01, which happens to be the exact maount left over from the previous subtraction, so you want to diesplay 0 in the "60-89" column.
The remaining columns to the left should contain their regular totals.
Here's one way to do that:
    WITH     got_col_num     AS
         SELECT     trraccd_grnt_code
         ,     CASE
                   WHEN  trraccd_detail_code != 'GCSH'     THEN  trraccd_amount
              END          AS net_amount
         ,     SUM ( CASE
                        WHEN trraccd_detail_code = 'GCSH'     THEN  trraccd_amount
                    END
                  ) OVER (PARTITION BY trraccd_grnt_code)
                                 AS gsch_total
         ,     CASE
                  WHEN  trraccd_amount < 0               THEN  4
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 30     THEN  1
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 60     THEN  2
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 90     THEN  3
                                            ELSE  4
              END          AS col_num
         FROM     trraccd
         WHERE     trraccd_trans_date     <= SYSDATE
    ,     got_sum          AS
         SELECT       trraccd_grnt_code
         ,       col_num
         ,       LEAST ( SUM (net_amount)
                     , GREATEST ( 0
                                , SUM (SUM (net_amount)) OVER ( PARTITION BY  trraccd_grnt_code
                                                                 ORDER BY        col_num   DESC
                                  - gsch_total
                   )  AS total
         FROM       got_col_num
         GROUP BY  trraccd_grnt_code
         ,       col_num
         ,       gsch_total
    SELECT       trraccd_grnt_code
    ,       SUM (CASE WHEN col_num = 1 THEN total END)     AS "0-29"
    ,       SUM (CASE WHEN col_num = 2 THEN total END)     AS "30-59"
    ,       SUM (CASE WHEN col_num = 3 THEN total END)     AS "60-89"
    ,       SUM (CASE WHEN col_num = 4 THEN total END)     AS "90-over"
    FROM       got_sum
    GROUP BY  trraccd_grnt_code
    ORDER BY  trraccd_grnt_code
;Whenever you want to understand a query like this, run just the first sub-query (in this case, got_col_num) and make sure you understand what it's doing. When you do, add one more sub-query, and make sure you understand what it's doing.
Add morte columns to the display to help you understand it better. For example, when you get to the point where you're trying to understand the 2nd sub-query above, got_sum, you might run this query:
    WITH     got_col_num     AS
         SELECT     trraccd_grnt_code
         ,     CASE
                   WHEN  trraccd_detail_code != 'GCSH'     THEN  trraccd_amount
              END          AS net_amount
         ,     SUM ( CASE
                        WHEN trraccd_detail_code = 'GCSH'     THEN  trraccd_amount
                    END
                  ) OVER (PARTITION BY trraccd_grnt_code)
                                 AS gsch_total
         ,     CASE
                  WHEN  trraccd_amount < 0               THEN  4
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 30     THEN  1
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 60     THEN  2
                  WHEN  trraccd_trans_date > SYSDATE - 90     THEN  3
                                            ELSE  4
              END          AS col_num
         FROM     trraccd
         WHERE     trraccd_trans_date     <= SYSDATE
    ,     got_sum          AS
         SELECT       trraccd_grnt_code
         ,       col_num
         ,       gsch_total
         ,       SUM (net_amount)               AS period_sum
         ,       SUM (SUM (net_amount)) OVER ( PARTITION BY  trraccd_grnt_code
                                              ORDER BY      col_num     DESC
                                   )         AS running_sum
         ,       LEAST ( SUM (net_amount)
                     , GREATEST ( 0
                                , SUM (SUM (net_amount)) OVER ( PARTITION BY  trraccd_grnt_code

    SELECT       *

    ORDER BY  trraccd_grnt_code
    ,            col_num
    ;which produces this output:

400404          4   72475.69   67618.68    67618.68          0The total column in that sub-query is very complicated, so break it down some. You can see that it is based on an analytic SUM whose argumenet is an aggregate SUM, all wrapped in LEAST and GREATEST. That can be very hard to underrstand, so break it down. Display the aggregate SUM by itself (period_sum) and also display the analytic SUM, without the GREATEST and LEAST.

would you mind expalining it to me a little.Again, could you be more specific? I don't mind explaining things to you, but I don't want to explain parts you already understand. If something is new, you'll want to read the SQL Language manual, or other sources, anyway, so it's more efficient to do that first, and then post specific questions on this forum.
An example of a more specific question is: "When I looked up "WITH clause" in the SQL Language reference, I found this page:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#sthref9758
but I don't understand where it says ...
The query above says ... Is that what the manual is talking about when it says ...?"
Another example of a good question is
"The query you posted says ... I don't understand what that's doing. I looked for ... and ... but that didn't seem to have anything to do with this query. What should I look for?
The Oracle 10 SQL Language manual is indexed pretty poorly. If you can't find something, it may not be your fault.

  • Power Query link to power pivot is lost

    Hi
As I'm starting using PowerQuery to import big text files into Power query (thanks to this forum help!) I bumped into an issue: sometimes the link betweek a Query and the Datamodel tab is lost. Which means that the next time I refresh the query data, a new
tab will be created into the datamodel instead of using the previously generated tab.
As I've added calculated columns and measures into the first tab, this is obviously an issue. I haven't renamed the query in the process (which I found out would always create a new tab with the new name in the datamodel).
Can someone explain to me why this happens and if there is a way to connect back a specific query to a given datamodel tab?
    Thanks!

  • Issue using Photoshop together with Lightroom - "Could not save because..."

I have a really annoying issue with Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. When I use Photoshop as my external editor for Lightroom, Photoshop opens up nicely and I am able to edit. However when I go to save I get the following message "Could not save because the file is already in use or was left open". The only way I'm able to save then is to shut down Lightroom. Then I can save in Photoshop and after that I launch Lightroom again to continue working in there.
I don't know if this has anything to do with this issue, but I do have all my images on a network drive which I access exactly the same way as any external drive.

Online chat with Adobe staff member helped solve the issue.
A corrupted preferences folder was removed, a new one automatically created solved the issue.
New folder was then deleted and old folder reinstated with the original name (if that makes sense).
    Sorted.

I just realized that the RSS reader in Safari does not show entries in a feed which have the same link as some other link. For example:
    entry1 - link1
    entry2 - link2
    entry3 - link3
    entry4 - link1
    entry5 - link2
will only show 3 entries with the link1 to link3; skipping entry4 and entry 5
Is there any way to force Safari to show all entries in a feed independent of duplicated links?

If you go to this site you will find the google code there.

Sorry you have already done that, so just edit the code to point to your website, (this is where it says title and url).

  • Performance issue: looping over queries with a query results set

I have code that works, but I think I should be able to run the code faster. I could try a stored procedure but there are so many variables to set. I tried with wrapping cftransation around the code, but it didn't make a noticeable difference. I need to go through the data singularly to fill my query object.
Here's an ABBREVIATED sample of the code:
    <cfset tot_AllActiveListing = QueryNew(
    "AnnounceNum, JP_PDLoc, JP_JS_Title, JP_JS_KWID, JP_JS, JP_Open, JP_Close, JP_CloseType, JP_CloseName, JP_PosNeed, JP_DirectHire, JP_Desc, JP_Draft, JP_Archived, JP_State, JP_AreaID, JP_AreaName, JP_AreaAlias, JP_Fac_SU, JP_Fac_Facility, JP_FAC_ID, JP_Grade1, JP_Grade2, JP_Grade3, JP_Grade4, JP_Grade5, JP_Posted, JP_TypeHire, JP_HRemail",

    Thanks for your reply.
So now here is the entire code written with LEFT JOIN:
    <cfquery name="getAllActiveListing" datasource="#request.at_datasource#">

I'm concerned about the queries below that I converted to the LEFT JOIN code above..

                and JOB_KW_LKUP.JOB_KWID = JOB_JPKW.fk_KWID

I appreciate your help with this.

  • Monitor f1503 - blue led power light not showing power available. unable to turn on

    Hi ,
I have had my f1503 monitor in storage for a while and it was working at last usage. Connected all power and PC connections correctly and turned the power on but no blue led light working and unable to turn on the monitor. Checked the power adaptor - green led lit on power transformer and 12.33 volts were showing at the output end of the monitor power plug.  The monitor power plug was inserted into the correct socket. Please help?
Does the monitor have a fuse that may have blown?
    This question was solved.

  • Project Online Reports - Power Query vs. Power Pivot

Does anyone know offhand if I use PowerQuery to build a data model for Project Online, all users viewing the report in Excel will need to use Fiddler to refresh the data, right? I'm beginning to get the sense that although PowerQuery makes it easier to build
the data model, the report becomes not as useful when being opened in Excel...
    Thanks,
    Roland

    Hello,
I've not heard that before. If you create a PowerQuery (PowerQuery for Excel) report then users will be able refresh the data in the Excel client. You should also be able to schedule the refresh if you have PowerBI on the tenant:

  • Sharepoint 2013 support for power query

    Hi,
I wanted to know whether SharePoint 2013 supports power query and can we refresh power query data from excel services.
    Thanks,
    Bhawna.

    Hi Bhawna.,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know whether SharePoint 2013 support Power Query and refresh power query data from excel services.
The  refresh of workbooks involving Power Query queries isn't currently available in SharePoint 2013.
Here are some similar posts for you to take a look at:

  • Using Power Query to import image files for Power View

I am trying to use Power Query to import image data from a SQL Azure database for use in Power View.  I've selected both the source image table and the ?images table in the workbook query.  The files seem to load as binary data in the Power
Query editor but when loaded to the data model with Power Pivot, the field becomes "text" type rather than binary.  Does anyone know the procedure to use  PowerQuery to load image files into PowerPivot?

    Hi,
We currently do not support loading binary data from Power Query into the Power Pivot data model. This is something we'd like to address soon. For now, you will need to use the Power Pivot import capabilities if you want to achieve this.
Sorry about the inconvenience - we will try to enable this feature over the coming months.

  • Power Query - How to format options for Web.Content()?

I am trying to access a web api which can return data in either JSON or XML. When connecting with Power Query I get a "400, Bad request" error though and I suspect it could be due to Power Query not explicitly providing accepted Content-Types
in the request. Anyone know how to add options to the Web.Content() request?
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/web-contents-HA104112310.aspx
    Thanks!

I believe the default reponse content-type is JSON. It doesn't serve Power Query with anything but an error response though and with the help of Network Monitor I caught a bit more details (in Swedish).
    Request:
    Http: Request, GET /platsannons/matchning, Query:lanid=1
    Command: GET
    + URI: /platsannons/matchning?lanid=1
    ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1
    Accept: */*
    UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Microsoft.Data.Mashup; http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=304225)
    Host: api.arbetsformedlingen.se
    Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    HeaderEnd: CRLF
    Response:
    HTTPPayloadLine: {"Error":{"statuskod":400,"titel":"Bad Request","beskrivning":"Felaktig headerparameter: [Accept-Language]"}}
And the API can be found at:
    http://api.arbetsformedlingen.se/
Would be great to be able to define custom headers to the request through options for cases like these. Thanks for the reply!
    Best regards,

  • Calculating date from Unix Timestamp in Power Query

So, I'm trying to analyse my Google Location History. I'm loading from the Google export file, through Power Query, into a Power Pivot data model.
The file contains the datetime of each locational fix as a integer. This integer represents the milliseconds since the epoch, which is 1970-01-01:00:00:00.
In SQL, this would be straight trivial. I'd get rid of the milliseconds, and do this:
    select
    dateadd(second,1410907851,'1/1/1970')
     and get
    2014-09-16 22:50:51.000
So, basically, I have the seconds value in the table, and I'm 'hardcoding' the epoch, but that's fine.
I'm sorry if I'm being stupid, but how on Earth do I do this in M in Power Query?

Absolutely sensational. Thanks very much Curt, I was a very long way away from working that our for myself.
