Issue on DBCA

hi everyone,
im trying to create a database for 3 node cluster using DBCA during database creation when it reaches 70% i get blank or empty pop up window with no warnings or errors when i click ok it stops the database creation. I m using ASM for file management and all datafiles will go to data. It looks like it creates datafiles in data but when it about to create instance it give me this error. Please let me know what should i have to do. i tried on single node and for file storage i used local storage and it created the databas but when i tried for all 3 nodes then it happens. Please guide me. thnx

Hi user652788
To verify whether your system meets all of the criteria for creating a database or for making a database configuration change, use the pre-check command for the Database Configuration stage as follows:
cluvfy stage -pre dbcfg -n node_list -d oracle_home [-verbose]
Can you please give us the result of that command ?
Thanks

  • Install of Oracle 10g on RHEL 4 AS (newbie)

This is one the toughest installs I've ever done. I'm new to Oracle so bear with me. I'm trying to install Oracle 10g on a RHEL 4 AS system. I started out installig on a RHEL 5 sever but felt that I might be in over my head since it wasn't certified for RHEL 5.
I've successfully installed Oracle 10g on a RHEL 4 AS machine. During my installation I used the "Advanced & Custom" install. I selected this option to install software only. I wanted to learn the implmentation of Oracle and the creation of databases. I'm now trying to start the Oracle/DBMS service and the listener. I've been tyring to get isqlplus to work via the Mozilla browser but I've not been able to login. I enter in the following url "http://oracleserver:5561/isqlplus". I receive the logon screen asking for a usename and password. I don't recall entering in a username other than the default of "dba" and a password. Is this what I should be using on this screen? I'm also being asked to enter in a "Connect Identifier" what does this mean. I don't recall entering in a "Connect Identifier" as part of the installation? When I enter in the "dba" username and password I get the following message:
ERROR - ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
What does this mean and what should I be entering?
I was successful at getting the listener to start.
I'm I having problems becuase of my installation process of "Advance, Custom, Software Only". My expectations where that a template database would be created and I would be able to use a GUI interface going forward to configure the system. Very much what you would see when installing SQL 2005 in a Windows environment.
Please work with me to get things working. I really want to learn this.
    Thanks

When you perform the install software only, it means so, Software Only. So no database template, no default environment. You'll have to define this on your own. It could be by means of dbca or manually.
isqlplus could start, but it doesn't have any database to connect to. The username/password and database service you are being prompted are the connect descriptor to an existing database and a database user/password. At this time none of them exist.
I could tell you, you are doing well, your listener and isqlplus are properly working, so next step, create your database.
As stated above, just issue the dbca command from the os prompt and go through the assistant.

  • Create a second database from an existing ORACLE_HOME

    DB Version:11.1.0.6.0
    OS : AIX
We have a database running for an OLTP test environment. We need to create another database of same version (11.1.0.6.0) for Datawarehousing needs. The init.ora parameter are going to be different for this. So we need to create another database.
We are having some issues with dbca due to some JAVA related errors. So, we need to use the 'CREATE DATABASE' statement.
This is what i am going to do.
    1. create an init.ora file for the new db and copy it to $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
    2. Set the env variables
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
export ORACLE_SID= <sid of the database which i am going to create>
    3.
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> startup nomount pfile=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initora318.ora
    4. Copy, Paste the Create Database statement.
    Are these steps right?
I know that Enterprise Manager would not be configured using this method. But configuring EM shouldn't be a complex exercise.Right?

Just a small note: You can save "database create scripts" from dbca in any other system(use the same main version please) if your db server has issues. In this way you can get the original scripts and you wont forget any steps...

Create a second database from an existing ORACLE_HOME
I'll just give you a background:
We have a database running for an OLTP test environment. We needed to create another database for Datawarehousing needs. The init.ora parameter are going to be different for this. So we had to create another database from the same ORACLE_HOME of the oltp database.
Since we were having some issues with dbca due to some JAVA related errors I manually created the DB using 'CREATE DATABASE' statement.
The database got created succefully. But the entry for this db is not there in oratab file. So, i am going to add this entry manually. This should be fine. Right?

  • Urgent!! Database Creation

    Hi guys!
When I try to launch dbca on unix command line this is the error I'm getting
    Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
    what's going on?
    Thank you.

what software are you using to view the GUI.
Unix machines are non-GUI , so it cannot display GUI applications.
So you have to use something like Reflection X , so that the GUI is displayed to your client.
start the software on your client
on the unix set the DISPLAY variable
    export DISPLAY=IP:0.0
IP is the IP address of your client machine.
    then issue
    ./DBCA, it should work

Apparently windows 2000 does not meet the minimum requirements for QT7.5, so what you need to do is find out what version of QT7 does if one ever did, if not your probably going to have to install QT6.5, which may be the latest version 2000 can run?

    Hello Expert,
We encountered some issues while trying to create a cluster database. The issue is:
When running DBCA to create a cluster database, we seem unable to bring up the screen where we can choose "Oracle Real Application Cluster database". It only allows us to create single instance database. We must have missed some steps. Any suggestions?Hello non-expert.
Until you provide some hints about operating system for each of the RAC machines, the networking you have installed (and whether you have the interconnect running), the shared disk mechanism (and whether it is confirmed shared raw or ASM), the Oracle software versions, whether your systems passed cluster verify ... we would be wasting our time guessing.

    Hi,
I have a Sun SPARC box . There are 7 instances 2 in 9.2.0.8 and 5 in 10.2.0.1 upgraded earlier than my joining. I want to upgrade one of the 9.2.0.8 databases.
The database to upgarde is up and running and can be connected through listener.
I login as the owner of ora10g and start dbua. It shows me all the 7 databases but when I select the database to upgrade it throws the following info :
[b]The Upgrade Assistant Failed in bringing up the database xxxx. Oracle Home /oracle/9.2.0.8 obtained from /etc/oratab was used to connect to the database. Either the database is not running from Oracle Home /oracle/9.2.0.8 or correct Initialization pfile was not found.
It then asks for pfile. -----------------------------------
The database is up and running. The Oracle home is also correct in Oratab file.
    I checked the sqls.log file
    It has info like
    set heading off
    set pagesize 0
    set feedback off
    set linesize 2048
    set sqlprompt 'SQL_ENGINE_END_OF_SQL'
    show sqlprompt

    set feedback off
    set linesize 2048
    set sqlprompt 'SQL_ENGINE_END_OF_SQL'
    show sqlprompt
    set sqlprompt 'SQL>'

Please help on this issue . Y cant the DBUA see that database is up?

  • DBCA issue

    Hi all,
When I was Enter the DBCA for creating new database the following error occur
    oracle@linux:~> dbca
    DISPLAY not set.
Set DISPLAY environment variable, then re-run.
    How to retify the problem
    plz
    Regards ...

The DISPLAY variable needs to be set to the root window of an X server, thus
    export DISPLAY=192.168.0.149:0.0.
Are you telnet-ing in from your PeeCee? If so, you need an X server running on you PeeCee -- Like Hummingbird Exceed. If you are telnet-ing in from a unix or linux workstation running X ( like, Motif, for example ), then you need to allow X connection to your workstation. To do this, open a console and issue the command xhost +

Yes you are right , I have to make to sure stock budget doesn't get credited.
If you remember in one of my other threads, i wanted to derive commitment item from Matl grp, it was for this purpose. I will derive commitment through matl group at the time of procurement / GR etc and assign a dummy commitment item to stock a/cs. Where as i will derive a consumption commiment item from consumption GLs.
    Thank you

  • New Install: dbca problem on ubuntu 10.04

    Hello List,
I want to install Oracle 11gR2 on my Ubuntu box which is running 10.04 Lucid:
    oracle@z2:~/oh$ cat /etc/issue
    Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
    oracle@z2:~/oh$ uname -a
    Linux z2 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 28 06:07:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
The above command suggests to me that I am running 32bit Linux.
I downloaded the 32bit Oracle cdroms.
    I read this link:
I carefully followed the instructions there.
The instructions there are for 64 bit Linux. Like I said, my box is 32bit.
Here are the results of my libstdc++5 shoehorn-install:
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$ ll libstd*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2010-08-10 21:59 libstdc++.so.5 -> libstdc++.so.5.0.7
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 737192 2010-08-10 21:58 libstdc++.so.5.0.7
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2010-08-09 13:54 libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.13
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 975088 2010-03-26 15:43 libstdc++.so.6.0.13
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$ file libstdc++.so.5.0.7
libstdc++.so.5.0.7: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$ file libstdc++.so.6.0.13
libstdc++.so.6.0.13: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$
    oracle@z2:/usr/lib$
The instructions suggest that I install some debian packages.
Here are my results for that task:
    root@z2:/oracle/downloads/database# apt-get install unzip build-essential x11-utils rpm ksh lsb-rpm libaio1
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
unzip is already the newest version.
build-essential is already the newest version.
x11-utils is already the newest version.
rpm is already the newest version.
ksh is already the newest version.
lsb-rpm is already the newest version.
libaio1 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
The instructions described a software-only install so I did that.
    I bumped into no problems.
    After the install,
I added env vars to my .bashrc and got a new bash:
    export ORACLE_BASE=/oracle/app/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
    Then:
    oracle@z2:~$ sqlplus /nolog

I used these google keywords to search for clues:
    google:

I found no clues in Google.
So, I look for clues here.
Does anyone have any ideas on how do debug this error from dbca:
