Issue setting up DisplayLink Monitor

I have follow damn near ever guide I can find, tried to follow instructions I have read from other posts on this forum, but am just having no luck.
Currently, plugging in the monitor gives me a green screen.
I have udfbl installed and running in the kernel:
$ lsmod | grep udlfb
udlfb 17308 0
syscopyarea 3447 1 udlfb
sysfillrect 3747 1 udlfb
sysimgblt 2232 1 udlfb
fb_sys_fops 1371 1 udlfb
usbcore 174164 4 udlfb,uvcvideo,ehci_hcd,usbhid
I have xf86-video-fbdev installed:
$ sudo pacman -S xf86-video-fbdev
warning: xf86-video-fbdev-0.4.3-2 is up to date
So I am not sure what the issue is, I am assuming it is in my xorg config.
Below is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "DualSreen"
Screen 0 "DisplayLinkScreen" 0 0
Screen 1 "Laptop" LeftOf "DisplayLinkScreen" #Screen1 at the right of Screen0

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks

Let's set a static IP address and external DNS for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • How to set up dual monitors with a Mac Mini

The Mac Mini has only one video output port. I very nearly didn't buy a Mac Mini system because I need to work with two monitors. I use the second monitor to display information in Web pages, PDFs, and Word documents while I am working in the main window.
However, I discovered after quite a bit of Googling that it is possible to set up dual monitors using an inexpensive USB video adapter (about $70).
So I bought my Mini (1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 200GB 7200rpm Seagate Momentus), and I also bought a USB video adapter called the EVGA Plus.
I've installed this system and used it now for a week, and I am quite pleased with it. So I thought I'd pass this information along to anyone who's interested. Please note that, although this is my first post to this forum, this isn't spam -- I have no financial relationship with any of the companies mentioned here, other than as a customer.

    EVGA Plus:
    http://www.evga.com/articles/409.asp
Their literature does not mention Mac OS X compatibility. However, the underlying technology is made by Display Link. You can download beta Mac OS X drivers from their site:
Go to Display Link to download the beta Mac OS support -- see
    http://www.displaylink.com/macbetadrivers.html
The disk image includes a very well written PDF document that explains the driver's status and limitations.

    NOTES
    * The DisplayLink driver is beta. It doesn't support 2D or 3D accelerated graphics. You can't use it to display iPhoto slide shows, for example. However, I need to be able to display a Web page, document, or PDF in the second monitor while I am working in the first. I've found this solution to be quite acceptable for this purpose.
    * Several other companies make USB video units that use the same DisplayLink support, so they should work, too. However, they are more expensive -- largely because they're set up to function as port expanders, I believe. The EVGA Plus was the only unit priced under $100 when I did my search.
    * USB does not have very much bandwidth, so you might be surprised that to hear that it's possible to use USB to drive a monitor! You'll find that the display isn't as fast as DVI, but for my purposes, I've found it quite acceptable.
    * The EVGA Plus comes with a terrible USB to mini USB cable that will cause all sorts of display problems. Replace it with the type of cable that is used to hook up digital cameras to a USB port.
    * Once everything is installed, you can use the Displays in System Preferences (or just click the icon on the menu bar) to adjust the second monitor. You can choose display resolutions (depending on your monitor's ability, of course). Rotation works. You can also right-click the second monitor and choose a different background color or graphic.
Don't expect miracles. Don't go this route if you want to run videos or games in the second monitor. And if you get an EVGA Plus, replace that horrible cable!
I hope this information is helpful.
    Bryan

There has been quite a lot of discussion here about driving twin displays with the mini, and more recently about the potential for USB video adapters to facilitate this, particularly in the light of several vendors claiming they have suitable MacOS devices and drivers 'almost ready'.
The DisplayLink solution seems to be the one most suggested as viable, though it's a pity they have not yet been able to move their drivers from beta - I suspect that puts a few people off. It's therefore good to hear of a real-world experience that should help others decide whether or not to go this route!

  • Issue setting up eFax on HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One "Problem connecting to internet"

I'm having an issue setting up eFax on my new HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One. I am following the on-screen instructions and receive an error "Problem connecting to internet" when trying to register the account. Call Verizon's wireless tech support & explain your problem to them.  They will provide "step-by-step" instructions over the phone.

  • [SOLVED] Problem configuring DisplayLink monitor (udlfb...)

    SOLVED:
It seems that my monitor shows no green screen when it is ready. Instead it shows the last image rendered. In my case it was this color stripes.
Also, I upgraded to kernel 3.2.1-2, and using the include module udlfb and xf86-video-fbdev from the official repositories I made it work.
I'm struggling to configure a Green House DisplayLink monitor to work with a netbook with an eGalaxTouchscreen. It seems I have problems with udlfb and the DisplayLink driver.
Following this artilce in the wiki, I installed udlfb and xf86-video-fbdev-for-displaylink from the AUR.
    Loading the module with
    # modprobe udlfb fb_defio=1
    does not give any problem:
    dmesg
[ 509.963703] usbcore: registered new interface driver udlfb
Plugging the monitor after loading the driver gives the following output:
    dmesg
[ 637.363419] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd
    [ 637.470050] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -32

[ 637.793145] udlfb: DisplayLink USB device /dev/fb1 attached. 1366x768 resolution. Using 4104K framebuffer memory
But there is no visible change, the screen remains black. Nevertheless, there is a new entry /dev/fb1 as advertised. I followed the steps of the article but I didn't suceed. As I understand, the green screen assures you that udlfb is properly loaded and that the monitor is ready to use.
It seems that it is sadly not my case. Another strange thing is that if I load udlfb, then unload it and load it back again the monitor diplays green, blue, red and yellow stripes. But not the green screen.
I attach my xorg configuration, just in case.

I use my DisplayLink monitor with a netbook. The best I can get at the moment is to use the DL monitor as my primary monitor in a []single monitor setup[]. This means that my netbook's monitor is not used at all (although in my case it is not vital, I would like it to work for watching videos or writing LaTeX code in the smaller screen with a big font size and read the preview in the bigger one).
This is the Xorg file I use:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
    # DisplayLink Monitor
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "DisplayLink"
    Driver "fbdev"
    BusID "USB"
    Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb1"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Secondary Monitor"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "External Screen"
    Device "DisplayLink"
    Monitor "Secondary Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 16
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1366x768"
    # Virtual 4096 4096
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    # eGalax Touchscreen
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Integrated Graphics Controller"
    Driver "intel"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"

    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Internal Screen"
    Device "Integrated Graphics Controller"
    Monitor "Primary Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 16
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1366x768"
    Virtual 2732 768
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    # Dual Monitor configuration
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Dual Head Setup"
    # Screen "Internal Screen"
    # Screen "External Screen" RightOf "Internal Screen"

    # Screen "Internal Screen" LeftOf "External Screen"
    # Screen "Internal Screen" LeftOf "External Screen"
    # Option "Xinerama" "on"
    # Option "Clone" "off"
    EndSection
I use xf86-input-fbdev for the DL monitor.
This has one major drawback: I've found no way to make this work dynamically, so I need to move/rename or edit this file whenever I want to change my setup (twice a day in my case). It is not absolutely unbearable but it is an unsatisfactory solution nevertheless.
Also, if I understood correctly, this seems to be a limitation of the current drivers (which include no 3D accel., so no GNOME shell for example). If you find a better way to do it (specially to detect the other monitor dynamically) please let me know.
PS: Sorry for the late response, I was on vacation.

  • Xrandr, dual monitor, openbox - setting the main monitor?

    Hello fellow archers,
got some kind of nasty problem here:
I got a notebook (on the right side) and a old monitor (on the left side).
By using the handy xrandr tool I can set up dual monitors (almost) fine:
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1400x1050 --left-of LVDS
That should do the trick, but unfortunatle conky and gmrun than appear on the left-monitor. But I would like to have my notebook screen as the main-screen.
So basically I would like to have what I get with
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1400x1050 --right-of LVDS
just with the minor difference that I can swap screens when I move my mouse over the left-notebook-edge / right-monitor-edge instead of the other way round.
Hope you get what I mean and maybe someone even knows a solution.

err. there has to be a more elegant solution! openbox has excellent support for dualheading now.
the xrandr thingie togehter with kde works like this afaicr:
    xrandr --output 1 --right-of 2
    leads to :
    [ screen 2 ] [screen 1 (main)]
maybe this works with openbox just as well
    cheers Barde
EDIT: i'm an idiot ^^ there is an option in the openbox configuration file... it's called placement and it's under

If they both turn on for a second or two and then it drops you back at the command line, it would appear that X is working ok.
What wm/de are you using? .... or maybe what login manager are you using?
Have you checked your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file to see what it says?
Normally when you are dropped to the command line, there would be an error message on the screen in front of you; it should be the same as in the log file, btw.
Also, when did this start happening?
Has it ever worked?  If so, what changed?

    Welcome to the discussions.
So what make you think, to quote you "bluetooth set up to monitor me in home and w/ iphone" ? That stuff looks like a bunch of data files, some sqllite, some plist, and some possibly binary.  There's lots of this kind of stuff floating around your system.
You are not being monitored.  And if you were bluetooth is about the last mode to even try to use due to its limited range.  In addition your post says you are using a mac pro and the bluetooth on mac pros leaves a lot to be desired to say the least (I'm being kind using those words).  The built-in BT on mac pros is lucky to reach the mouse on your desk!

i need help with a second hand iphone i purchased recently,i am having issues setting it up as it has is requesting for the icloud account that was used by the previous user

    Sorry.
The iPhone is of no use until/unless the previous owner removes it from their account.
You will need to find the prior owner or return the iPhone.

  • Having issue setting up email account on the iphone.

having issue setting up email account on the iphone.  Going into settings mail, contacts, calendars...it goes back to the welcome screen.  How do I delete all email accounts and set up from scratch?

I was having the exact same issue.  It was driving me crazy.  Just as a fluke, I tried logging in to my wife's account on the verizon.net website to se if I had a bad password or something.  As soon as I logged in on my computer, her account verified & installed on her iphone.  I have no idea why, but it worked.

  • Issues setting negative current on a KEPCO BOP 36-12D

First thanks in advance for any adivce on this. I'm pretty new to labview.  I am trying to set a current remotely on a Kepco BOP 36-12. Manually the power supply works fine, and I have no issues setting a positive current, but the issue comes in setting a negative current. When I switch the voltage set point to negative I can set a current down to -5 amps, anything lower than -5 amps hits the voltage limit for a reason that I can't figure out.  Thank you again!
    Attachments:
    kepco alone2.vi ‏15 KB

I have not worked with the Kepco BOP since the mid 90's, but we must have had 10 or so test set each with 6 BOP to create 3 phase current and voltage.
As I recall they are nothing more than a power amplier and will follow the signal you supply within its limit. +/- its rails.
We did not control them directly with LabVIEW. We controled them via standard function generators with LabVIEW.
Is you problem with the setup of the BOP or is it with the device between the LabVIEW and the BOP.
Can't tell what the missing subVI are doing from the VI you posted.
    Omar

  • Issues with using 3 monitors on 2 external gpu

    Hi,
I have some issues with configuring Xorg to use 3 monitors. I have 2 external graphic cards (same model, no SLI). Monitors connected to the first gpu are recognized ok but I can't configure my 3rd monitor conencted to the second gpu via HDMI nor DVI.
1st is recognized as DVI-I-1, 2nd is DP-1 in first card, 3rd monitor is in second card (bus 22:00.0) as DP-1-2 (also tried connecting as DVI-I-2). I can see them in Xorg log but I can't configure my 3rd monitor via kscreen nor xrandr. :-/

    Thanks for any help!

I have  a similar issue except with two ATI cards and four monitors.
I have a working xorg.conf that uses Xinerama and all 4 work but have been trying to get xrandr to work since xinerama is deprecated supposedly.
I would like to switch to xrandr but there is some kind of magic voodoo I have with my current xorg.conf that doesn't even work on an exact same machine and cards that I tried to setup for a co-worker.

My Xorg.0.log shows all the DVI connections when I don't use a xorg.conf file but only two are "connected"
    I see DVI-0 and DVI-1 connected and in "xrandr -q" but in Xorg.0.log I see DVI-1-2 and DVI-1-3.
xrandr --listproviders show the two cards as well.
Tried "xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0" and they show up in KDE but as clones and then X crashes eventually.
"xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 0 1" just plain crashes X
