Issues w/ JDK - j2sdk-1_4_2_12-windows-i586-p

Hi,
For some time, I'd been running with the following JDK on my box - j2sdk1.4.0. I also use j2sdk1.4.2_07 on our production box, with no ramifications.
However, I downloaded & installed the above JDK - j2sdk-1_4_2_12 - thinking I needed to update my JDK and get a newer API for all that I was doing.
Well, that totally wrecked things!
I had -- in almost all of my servlets -- import statements like the following:
import javax.servlet.RequestDispatcher;
import javax.servlet.ServletException;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpSession;Well, nothing would compile at all after that, and would choke on any methods, classes and interfaces associated with this.
Can anyone enlighten me on what the issue is and why I could no longer import items from the J2EE javax. classes?
Thanks!

anybody? Anyone?

  • Java Web Start didn't install with j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe

    I just uninstalled all my java stuff from my XP Pro system
    then re-installed... j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe
    With the SDK installation... j2re1.4.2_04 also installed... I think this is the Java Runtime
    But, before I had a folder for Java Web Start... not I don't...
    AND, the file... javaws-1_2-windows-i586-i.exe
    refered to on the Java Web Start Installation page isn't on my system anymore...
    (It was in an older vrsion of the Java Runtime... ( I had 2 java Runtimes at once installed, that is why I uninstalled... and even though I had Java Web Start, it wasn't working... so I deleted everything and reinstalled the j2sdk-1_2_04-windiws-i586-p.exe.)
    I would just download the java Web Start but the docs tell me it should be installed when the SDK and Runtime are installed... so I worry if I got the installation correct.
    Can anyone please advise me of how to get things working again.
    thanks for any help - Will

    I fixed this broblem just install both JDK and JRE.

  • J2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe corrupted (cannot unpack)

    I cannot install j2sdk 1.4.1.
    First I downloaded it from http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/DisplayLinks
    "You have chosen to download Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.1
    Download j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 37,724,482 bytes."
    to
    c:\Downloads\j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe 37,724,482 bytes
    Correct number of bytes.
    Double-clicking on this file brings up a dialog with title
    "Java 2 SDK - InstallShield Wizard"
    with a progress bar labelled "Reading contents of package..."
    The progress bar reaches 100% and then starts from 0 again. Shortly after, the dialog is replaced with an error dialog stating:
    "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."
    This is the third time that I have tried to install the Java 2 SDK and each time I have had the same result. Each time the downloaded file has had the correct number of bytes. There are many posts here describing the same problem, but I have not seen one that has a universal solution.
    It seems to me that the problem is to do with the installation environment:
    Operating system: Windows 95 Copyright 1981  1996
    Pentium MMX 166 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 3GB unused disk space
    J2SDK-1_4_1-WINDOWS-I586.EXE Dependencies:
    File Version
    ADVAPI32.DLL 4.71.118.0
    COMCTL32.DLL 5.81.4807.2300
    GDI32.DLL 4.0.0.950
    J2SDK-1_4_1-WINDOWS-I586.EXE 2.11.15.0
    KERNEL32.DLL 4.0.0.1111
    LZ32.DLL 4.0.0.950
    SHELL32. DLL 4.0.0.1111
    USER32. DLL 4.0.0.950
    I have 2 versions of InstallShield installed. I think that the problem is with my operating system or my InstallShield installations. Anyone know the solution?

    Window 95 is not supported for this version and you are at the ragged edge as far as processor speed.
    This is the beginning of the installation instructions that are on the download page:
    "System Requirements
    The JavaTM 2 SDK is supported on Microsoft Windows 98 (1st or 2nd edition), Windows NT 4.0 with with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later, running on Intel hardware. In non-English locales, the only edition of Microsoft Windows 2000 tested with this release is the Professional edition.
    Note -- Trying to install the Java 2 SDK on a non-supported version of Microsoft Windows or on a machine that doesn't have a sufficiently up-to-date Service Pack will cause the installer to generate this warning: "We recommend that you do not install this Java(TM) Platform for the following reasons: This Java(TM) Platform does not support the operating system or operating-system service pack on this machine."
    A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 32 megabytes of physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. Forty-eight megabytes of RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in product. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.
    You should have 120 megabytes of free disk space before attempting to install the Java 2 SDK software."

  • J2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe didn't install JRE correctly.

    I realize that j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe didnt install JRE probably.
    Server folder which is used for Java HotSpot Server VM was not found in C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin.
    Hence, i need to manually copy the folder D:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\jre\bin\server to JRE location.
    I was wondering is this the correct way to do so? anyone of u have encounter this problem before?
    thank you.
    regards
    yancheng

    If a previous version of the JRE is installed, remove the previous JRE and install the j2sdk 1.4.2_04 JRE.

  • Install fails j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe

    I'm also having this problem with j2sdk-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe. The install starts ok, but I ghen get "Failed to extract file Dll_.ini" from the binary table. the 1.3 runtime installs fine, but it looks like the installer changed with 1.4

    I finally got this running, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I took a look at: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105416&source=support_central&product=wind
    I wasn't willing to make all the security changes it suggested, but tried a couple of them which didn't work and I restored the original permissions. I noticed that most if not all gave permissions to local admins, but not domain admins. That gave me the idea of trying log on to the local machine. I did that and both the jre and jdk installed without a hitch. I can't explain why this worked as this machine and my office machine are virtually the same and I built most of both networks. I log on to both machines with my domain userid. The office machine worked the first time. I will be taking a look at the installshield article again to compare the settings on both machines.
    Bottom line, try logging in on the local machine and installing.

  • "Error 1721" when trying to install jdk-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe ??

    When I try to install the just downloaded jdk-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe
    = Java SE 6 upd 3 Development Kit on my WinXP computer at first everything seems fine.
    I can choose the installation options (all except the Java DB).
    and selected the installation folder and start the process.
    The progress bar reaches approx. 80%.
    Then suddenly it stops and a popup appears:
    "Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run".
    What's wrong ?
    BTW: Upd 2 could be installed without problems.

    Hi, Try reregistering the Windows Installer service.. For that restart you system in safe mode then
    Open command prompt and excecute the below commands
    1 msiexec /unregister
    2 msiexec /regserver
    Restart the system normally and check if it works.
    If it doesn't work try using some registry cleaner like CCCleaner to clean your registry.
    Hopw this will work ..

  • Jdk-6u10-windows-i586-p

    I down-loaded the jdk-6u10-windows-i586-p and installed it on my computer. But there was a fatal error, now it won't let me reinstall it or remove it. Can anyone tell me what to do?
    Thanks
    Drenda

    if you're running Xp then chances are you are a member of admin group. If it is only saying a "fatal error has occurred" and add/remove programs is not working then i would just delete the java file from C:\program files\ and then restart the machine and reinstall.

  • What's the right JDK version for windows vista SP1

    Hello guys,
    I’m trying to install SQL Developer on my old Windows Vista SP1 but as soon as I run it I got a message: Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
    I was reading a post and this problem could be solved by installing the JDK. I went to the Java Archive Download website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness`/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html) and I downloaded 3 versions but none of them are working. There’re tons of them and I really don’t know which one should be the one to be installed in order to get the SQL Developer working. Any chance someone can help me solve this issue?
    These are the errors I got when I run the installers:
    Jdk-6u26-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u26-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application. Size of the file downloaded: 7140KB
    Jdk-6u26-windows-x64 – error: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. (I was quite careless downloading this version cause I know my computer is 32-bit or x86) size of the file downloaded: 69,043KB
    Jdk-6u37-windows-i586 – error: D: \Java JDK\jdk-6u37-windows-i586.exe is not a valid Win 32 application sizeof the file downloaded: 67,756KB
    Thanks loads

    This one should do it.
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/jdk/6u38-b05/jdk-6u38-windows-i586.exe
    I suspect an issue with your download if you are getting the invalid application message

  • Silent Install of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe ???

    I have tried to do a silent installtion of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe with this command line syntax :
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /S /v/qn"ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The installation process starts what I could see in Task Manager a process called " j2re-1_4_2_03-w" starts but dissapear in 10 sec and the installation does not continue what I could see. No installation directory has been created and no log etc.
    Do anyone have any clue what could be the issue here, do I use wrong syntax etc ??
    We are going to use Sun Java runtime instead of Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, when that is going to be unsupported Sept 30 -04.

    The correct syntax for the command line should be
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The first " (Quote) should be between the /v and the /qn without any spaces. There should be a space after the /qn and before any other parameters.
