Issues with updating display

Question

I am creating a timer on my external lcd.. .problem is.. it wont update. i tell it to repaint, and it doesn't, any one know why? im new to the j2me stuff, so its probably something stupid :\

x was originally set to -2 in an instance field.. and it NEVER chances from -2.. which leads me to believe the else in goUpdate is never being used and the timer is never started in pauseApp... so i do not really know what to do
