Issues with White Balance and other camera setting...

I have found a glitch with the camera on the Lumia 800: When you try to change a different white balance setting- (try it with incandescent so you can see the difference) as well as changing the scene (ie to portrait mode) it will flip back to auto white balance, although it will say that it is still incandescent. If you change the scene first and then the white balance and save those settings, it will take one picture like that and then revert back to auto white balance again for the next shot, but again it will tell you that it is still incandescent. (You can clearly see the white balance difference between the 2 shots, even though the camera settings say they should be the same). The whole point of saving settings is so that you can take multple shots with the same settings. I have spent hours on the phone to Nokia trying to explain this to them and they have assured me that it will be fixed in the next update. I took the phone back to the Orange shop and we tried 3 different handsets and they all had the same problem.
I also have the same problem with video autofocus that lots of people have mentioned. Has anyone found a solution yet? The main reason I got this phone (only last week) was for the camera so I am diappointed. I am a photographer so I am really fussy about cameras! They have said in the Orange shop that I can change the Lumia for another phone, such as a Galaxy S2, which is also an awesome phone. The thing is, I really love the Lumia otherwise. I really like the fact that I don't have an iPhone anymore, for a start!!
Does anyone think the network you are on makes a difference? It's just that several people have suggested that there could be a conflict with the Orange software and the Nokia/Windows software. Does anyone else have this problem who is not with Orange?

White Balance and other Mayhem

This past weekend I was shooting as usual when unexpectedly for several minutes, it was “open season”, anything goes color wise so the footage from that segment is filled with totally inappropriate tints, hues and false coloration like all of the sudden the white balance went haywire amongst other factors.
Then, thrown in for good measure the lighting keep shifting from light to dark to light.
Accordingly, my questions are these:
My goal is to somehow salvage these minutes if it isn’t too much work assuming it can be made to look right. The problem is all of my color correcting experience to date has been solely with digital photography. I have none at all with Premiere and CS3 which appears to eb very involved and complex comparatively speaking. Is there a solution that a newbie to color correction could pursue to some level of success at least as a viable starting point that anyone care to share and explain in some detail?
Does CS 3 have any autofixes or functions exclusively recommended for white balance issues?
For example digital photo editing programs have sliders named just that or maybe they’ll be split between temperature and another associated parameter.

Since update to 3.5 issues with white balance

since update to Aperture 3.5 tonight the white balance in all of my pictures is completely wrong (way too cool with a greenish tint).
After setting the white balance with the eyedropper it reads on a Whibal grey card

I cannot replicate this issue. Upon import of new images (RAW) I tested the White Correction using the eye dropper. No issue at all, despite reports here to the contrary.
In the previous round of this issue, it seems to have only impacted people who did not directly download new photos into Aperture, but rather were using some third party software to first do some processing of them.
The previous issue required some sort of fix not only from Apple, but also an update of the aforementioned third party software (Nik apps in that case.)

Issues with color panel and other windows on right side of flash

Ok the issue I'm having with flash is that the windows on the right side of my flash window do not snap up when I collapse a window. I am attaching a screen shot to better explain this issue.
As you can see I have the color panel collapsed up, when I expand this panel and it goes down everything shifts down. however when I collapse it back up a huge gap is left behind in CS5.5 as is displayed in screen shot number 2. In CS4 I never had this problem. I could expand and collapse panels as I saw fit with no problems what so ever. Everytime now that I expand a panel and collapse it, the library or other panels do not move up with the collapsing. This causes a workspace issue. and forces me to drag up the library via the black line that is just above it but below the align panel so that I have better access to my library or properties panel for when I'm working. I find this highly annoying and would like it if there could be a fix produced to make it so this collapsing issue can be fixed and I don't have to waste time dragging up the library/properties panel everytime I need to access stuff in my library when I have a huge list of graphics I'm going through.

Sync issues with iPhone 6 and "other" storage

I have been having multiple problems with syncing music on my iPhone 6. In short some of the music and album art aren't synching even though they are checked.
I did some research and decided to follow the advice below from other users:
• Uncheck “sync music” in iTunes
• On phone, Delete all Music (General > Usage > Manage Storage)
• Re-check “sync music”
• Sync
The problem is once I unchecked the "sync music", it deleted all the music on my phone, but the actual space it was taking up is now in the "other" storage on the summary screen in iTunes. Now my "other" storage is over 81GB. I checked the Usage on my phone and even though there are no music files it is still showing I'm using this 81GB as used. When I go to "manage storage" I can't find this amount anywhere.
I figured if I re-checked "sync music" that would fix it, but instead iTunes tells me I can't sync because I'm over capacity.
So now I'm stuck because I can't sync but I also can't figure out how to get rid of the ghost storage.

Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like you have a very large quantity of “Other” disk usage when syncing your device with iTunes. Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

White balance and B+W image

I understand how I can use the colour information in a raw file to create a B+W image with some considerable depth and variety. In the B&W tab, I can reset the various contributions of the different colours to the image (which is great), and I can use these to create all kinds of filter effects, etc.
There is one thing I'd like to be able to do that LR doesn't seem to allow me. I would like to get a netural (true) reading of the luminance values of the sensor when I'm converting to B+W. I should be able to do that by setting these values to their middle location (option click gives me a "reset"). However, I'd really like to completely neutralise the white balance settings as this setting is still altering the luminance values of the image.
I really want to have a completely neutral representation of the luminance values as recorded by the sensor with no colour bias in how these are rendered, but I don't see how I can do that with the requirement to set a white balance. It really seems to me that LR should have a way to disable WB when converting to B+W, or at least some way to have WB be bypassed (or neutral). I understand that this can be a part of a creative interpretation (so I'm not suggesting it should be disabled). Then I can still use the B+W colour sliders to control the contribution of each colour, which also might include manipulating white balance.
From the reading I've done, I can chose a 6500K (or 5500K, opinions seem to vary about which value is "most neutral") - and I would assume a value of 0 on the red-green tint, but even in this setting, there still seems to be some notion of a weighting being applied to the recorded colour values.
I don't think I can use LAB in Photoshop for this; I could just take the "L" channel, but then I've lost the colour information, and if I were to keep all three channels, then I think I would still have a WB setting to contend with? (Sorry, I don't know much about how LAB works, so maybe I can do it this way)?
So, basically, I want to start with as neutral a rendering into B+W as I can, just as an achromatic sensor (or B+W film) would record the shot, then use the color information in the RAW file from that point.

An achromatic sensor would have no colour information, but it would still have a certain effective WB built into its hue sensitivity. Same for B&W film, or for any variants on that such as the orthochromatic film which preceded that. Early movie film required lurid coloured makeup (green lipstick IIRC) for the actors, to make their mouths show up in a way that seemed natural in B&W terms. Then the film stock improved, became "panchromatic".
IMO you are misusing the word "neutral" here, since all photographic techniques are carefully designed, developed and then honed by testing so as to correspond credibly to human vision. So it's a matter of choosing among the many representations that are available, one that WE (using some standardised average) consider subjectively believable or natural-looking. All cameras or all Raw conversion impose a contrast curve as standard, which can be varied to taste, but there is no greater "neutrality" to one or another setting for that curve, except what WE choose to invest in that. Same for WB.
If you wished to define a central-weighted averaging-metered shot in LR "neutral" tone curve (under the 2012 process version), using Adobe Standard camera profile, with all other settings at Adobe defaults, Daylight WB, you would not be alone in considering that some kind of an - at least useful - idea of an un-fiddled-with starting point ... merely because, this has not been overtly individualised for a given picture. However any other setup that you can apply consistently, would be an equally valid starting point.
This is like the reliability of witnesses in court - we do not require them to be omniscient and infallible, and would be more (not less) suspicious of the testimony if there was any claim to that; we only require them to be candid, without applying bias or distortion or pretending to be other than they are.
The Raw data is not conventionally human viewable - or at least, we know that we are looking at an artificiality however we make it viewable, and this cannot be a "better" picture per se (whatever it is) without having considered, "better" for what?
If you instead wanted to define a pattern-metered exposure, Camera Standard, auto tone (assuming that worked - grin), AutoWB, apply auto mix to first B&W conversion... as your "vanilla", you might in truth better reflect the highly adaptable nature of human vision... and more particularly, of the kind of camera you picked, as having a pictorial character which seems more natural to you. If you consistently think ALL your out-of-camera images need some kind of correction, then that is YOUR normal. Even "vanilla" does not taste of nothing, it is distinctively sweet and fragrant; but in a way that we become so used to, that it can eventually pass our notice without comment.
A daylight balanced WB picture of a candle-lit scene represents an odd variation on human perceptions, but so does a perfectly WB-corrected one - since our experience of candle-lighting includes the awareness of how much what we see is "warmed", which might be why we have chosen that kind of illumination. The camera WB, and/or the B&W conversion we might make, or (for example) our decision to use tungsten-balanced rather than daylight-balanced film (or a corrective colour filter) to represent it, reflects the same perceptual relativism.
To paraphrase Pontius Pilate, "what is neutrality?" (applies noise reduction, as a digital equivalent of washing hands).

Quick Help Please!!!!... White balance 6 HD Cameras

Hey guys/gals (I only have 2 hours before I ship out)... I have an important gig tonight shooting a live event. I have 6 cameras all at different distances to the stage. The stage is reasonable and evenly lit. How should I white balance all of these cameras (Sony FX-1s and Z1Us)?
I want to use the manual White Balance in the cameras so they all have the same color temperature instead of 'auto' mode? What I realized today (which I hope I'm wrong) is that I'll have these cameras set up at different distances, they will all have to zoom in at different focal lengths (which effects the f-stops as well) to reach the White Card on the stage for the Manual White Balance. Should I White Balance the cameras this way? Will all the cameras have a slightly different White Blance due to the different Focal length?
Or should I place all of them in the same spot in front of the stage, go Wide (or tight), and then White Balance all of the cameras at the same focal length and angle?
2 cameras will have a tight shot all night, 2 cameras will be a tight to medium shot and the last 2 will be medium to wide.
Sorry if I'm overreacting (slap me if so please), it's an important gig to me and the first time I did this gig over a year ago I had to do a big of color correction depending on the shot/camera.

P.S. - I have a set of Warm Cards and a huge white posterboard for the White Balance and the stage is all Tungsten Lighting... basically a crapload of floodlights... theatre setting, no spotlights.

Good on ya for taking the time to learn to do this beforehand but I may have done some testing first.

Probably not although you'll have a flare imbalance between the cameras due to the different focal lengths. No two cameras, not even the same model, will ever white balance exactly like the other, there will always be minute differences. You will also want to black balance all your cameras as well.
However, white/black balance is a small part of the imaging pie. In reality you'd really want to chart these cameras with a [DSC Labs Chrome do Monde|http://www.dsclabs.com/chromadumonde.htm] as a simple white balance will not address differences in flare/gamma balance, or inequities in the white clipper channels. When you chart a camera you null out all the variances in the r,g,b channels which creates a better white balance over all.
The color section of the Chrome du Monde helps match the color matrices of your video cameras, something else a simple white/black balance will not do.

Issues with Exchange Account and Q10

Well, I hate to be writing this, but I'm hoping that there might be someone out there that can help get past some first day issues I am experiencing.
The background: I have a long history with legacy BlackBerry devices, and almost as much history with iOS devices. My most recent phone was an iPhone 4S, and I make extensive use of iCloud to keep my iMacs, iPhone, and iPad connected in real-time. The setup worked. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. However, because I used to have a BlackBerry device (most recent the 9930) and because I don't use the iPhone for more than e-mail, iMessage, and phone calls (generally speaking), I decided to give the newest BlackBerry device a shot. So I bought a Q10.
At this point I feel compelled to say that the hardware is everything I had hoped it to be. It's solid, has a good weight, and appears to be made very well. I have no complaints with the hardware, including the keyboard (a big selling factor for me), so I won't really get into the hardware as the issues I am experiencing all have to do with the OS. Let me also say that I am very familiar with the iCloud integration issues (missing Contact photos and disabled Calendar sync), so I'm not voicing a complaint over those issues in this thread.
I have connected my Exchange account. I used to have everything in Exchange before I moved my entire computing world over to Apple, and now I keep Exchange around for e-mail. Therefore, I have no contacts, no tasks, no notes, very limited calendar entries, and a massive amount of e-mail on the Exchange server. However, to test everything out, I have added a single contact record so I can see it show up on the phone and be able to test two-way sync between the Q10 and Exchange. And here is where the first issues crop up. It looks like Exchange connects and then disconnects at random. For example, if I open my Contacts on the phone, I see the one contact (called John Doe). Then, as the phone is sitting there with the screen on, the contact will disappear and I will see a "Start adding contact to your contact list" notice on the screen. Then, after a short period of time, the single contact will return. It is important to note that the entire time this is happening, the All Contacts option is selected in the list so that all available contacts are shown. Additionally, I have SIM card contacts turned off, but if I alter the selection in the view list (All Contacts, Favorites, etc.), the SIM contacts will re-appear when I return to the All Contacts view. At the same time, even though I have turned off SIM Contacts in the settings, the setting has reverted to show SIM Contacts. If I turn off the setting again, SIM Contacts still show up. Possibly related: I can't delete contacts on the SIM card, no matter how many times I try, and it now it seems that I can't get SIM Contacts to go away in the Contacts app.
Likewise, Exchange seems to connect and disconnect from Calendar. I go to the calendar and move day by day to June 15th. I see an entry that I know is from Exchange (I have no other connected calendars at this time), and it is in blue. I change the calendar color to green and the entry changes color, as expected. However, if I jump back to today and then scroll day by day to get to June 15th again, the calendar entry is missing. After a few seconds, the entry re-appears, but it is, once again, in blue. The setting has reverted itself, and it seems like Exchange is completely disconnecting and automatically reconnecting to the phone like I am setting it up again for the first time. Very odd. As I'm typing this, I just saw something odd. I swiped to wake up the phone, and the active frames screen was the visible screen. The calendar app is still running (since I left it running, minimized, when the phone went to sleep) and the date shown in the active card was Jan 1, not Jun 8. Why? The date (and time) on the phone is correct and is set automatically by the cellular system.
Nevertheless, looking at BlackBerry Hub, I see only two e-mails in my Inbox from Exchange, even though I have roughly a dozen in my Inbox. The rest are filed in sub-folders. And bam! Just like that... I get the "Add Accounts" screen while looking at the Hub. In other words, as I was typing this, I first saw two Exchange e-mails and then, out of nowhere, the e-mails disappear and I see the "Add Accounts" screen as if no account has been connected.
So... first question: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is very strange, and very frustrating. Second: could this be related to the large amount of e-mails I have stored on Exchange, some of which have large attachments? I selected "Forever" as the sync history length. I have my concerns, however, if this is related to loading historical e-mails onto the phone (in other words, the first sync with Exchange) because there is no reason that I can understand that the phone would blank out as if no account was connected at all. I can understand lag and stuttering while the history is syncing, but not a complete disconnect and reconnect. Considering all of the issues with the one and only contact record disappearing, the calendar entry for Jun 15th disappearing and then reappearing with the wrong calendar color, and e-mail in my Inbox incomplete (two of a dozen e-mails) and ultimately disappearing, I feel like this OS just has some real, significant issues.
Full disclosure: I do want iCloud to work and am a fan of Apple products, but the lack of full iCloud sync support is not a big enough issue for me to want to send back this phone and/or see it fail so miserably. I will happily move my info from iCloud into Exchange, Google, and/or set up a new Exchange account for personal use (Office 365) because I am not wedded to iCloud per se. But, I won't go through that trouble if I can't even get my first account to work properly. It should also be noted that I do have a basic Google account (non-paid) and I had previously attempted to connect to it. However, I was experiencing the exact same issues with contacts disappearing, e-mail disappearing, etc. So I deleted that account. Truth be told, I deleted the Exchange account as well, and then re-connected to Exchange only to test one account at a time. Unfortunately, even with Exchange only, I am seeing very strange and frustrating behavior as described above.
Help... please. I want this to work but the frustration I am feeling is growing worse by the hour.

To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

That's what I would have thought, but even after saving the setting, as soon as I shut down my computer or log out of Mail, it automatically defaults back to 25. It's a bit frustrating.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of those horrible pop-up banners but still have my glass sound and number of emails in the red dot when I get an email...
These little tweaks are the only thing I HATE about upgrading my OS.

I would like to share with you the below problem that i asked to be answered from SAP support and would appreciate any solution suggestions for this problem.
The problem I'm facing is relevant for two of my clients: one using SRM 4.0 with ECC 5.0 and the other using SRM 5.0 with ECC 6.0.
I was looking for a note solution concerning goods receipt reappearing in the confirmation screen (BBPCF02) although the confirmed quantity was equal to the ordered quantity and by chance I came up against note 1292032 - Goods confirmation with quantity 0 and final delivery set; that was released after a long list of notes that DID ALLOW the posting of Goods confirmation with quantity 0 and final delivery set.

Applying this note through the note implementation or Support package will ELIMINATE the option for the Goods Recipient (that do not have and will not have a PO change authorization) to indicate in any way that he is not expecting to receive those goods.
Please follow the below example to exemplify this problem:

A first confirmation was created for the following products and quantities:

For items 1; 2; 3; 4 the delivery completed indicator should be set as all expected quantities were delivered, as per items 5 and 6 they will remain open and as of note 1292032 there will be no way that the Goods Recipient can indicate IN THE SYSTEM that he is not expecting any more deliveries (keep in mind that he do not have any PO change authorization), and the PO will remain as opened and will keep appearing in the Confirm Goods / Services transaction.
Sending an e-mail to the purchaser, asking to set the Delivery Completed indicator in the PO is not a feasible option as all process should be backed up by the system and sending e-mails cannot be monitored by the system.

Overprint issue with white type.

We have been creating Digital PDF successfully for over 10 years. This is a problem that comes along once in a great blue moon.
Please read complete text before forming an opinion or answering the questions. The focus of these questions are on Digital AD's from outside vendors/customers.
We create our publications using Quark 6.5 on Windows XP
(We are locked into this version because of some other proprietary software tied into Quark, so upgrading Quark is not an option for us).
We compose a page of some type, some MAC EPS Illustrator 5.1 files and at least one Digital AD (PDF's which are from our advertisers/customer that we pre-flight) on to the page.
Print the page to a postscript file, distill postscript file with Acrobat Distiller Ver. 7 on PC's into a PDF file with Crops and Registration Marks.
We got a PDF (Digital AD) from a customer that was created in InDesign CS6 on a Mac. There is some white type in the AD ( See Photo Below)
The Last "E" in Engineered is selected in each screen shot.
The Top one is the AD untouched before Pre-flighting it. The White Type "E" letter is set to knock out and is still type (not converted to outlines).
(Pitstop is showing this in the dialog box on the right)
In the Bottom screen shot the type has been converted to outlines and is set to overprint.
First problem is white type should never overprint. Unless you specifically set it to in the original program.
This type was originally set to knockout and then when it was distilled from a Postscript file from Quark into a PDF with "Preserve Overprint Settings" check in (Distiller Settings) the type is converted to outlines and the type was set to overprint.
(If I turn off "Preserve Overprint Settings" and re-distill the postscript file the type doesn't convert to outlines or change to overprint.... it remains a knockout.)
Second Problem is catching this while using preflight tools. I have Pitstop tools to show Overprinting and Acrobat has a Output Preview/Color Warnings/Show Overprinting feature too.
Using Pitstops Overprint does show it in the inspector window, but not a Pitstop report.
Acrobat's Show Overprinting does NOT show that the type has been set to overprint.
So our workflow now is to flag any white type and check it throughout the whole pre-press process to make sure the type holds the knockout function.
Below is a scan of how the type ran when it was printed on sheet feed printing press paper.
Talk about overprinting... this is not what it looked like in the above pictures.
I am aware of this problem from Illustrator. It's an order of operations when dealing with white type.
If you set type, change the color to something other than 100% black and then convert it to outlines... it will knockout.
If you set type, convert to outlines and THEN change the color from black to white, it will hold the overprint from being black type.
It doesn't always do this every time, but it does happen enough that I have to double and triple check my white type.
Questions:
Does anyone have this problem in their workflow (White Type Overprinting) and do you have a solution to better catch this when you have to process 50+ AD's each week?
Obviously anything with white type will be looked at much closer now that this AD got through. It would be nice if these settings would hold through the whole preflight to printed piece process.
Any Words of Wisdom would be appreciated too.

You can set Pitstop up to catch this and even fix it.
In the preflight profile, under 'Text', select 'White Text' and add it to the list of checks, you can also enable the fix as well so it's just resolved.
I'm using PitStop 11 update 2, but it's in earlier versions as well.

Issue with Home Address and Phone of ESS(data not getting saved)

Hi Everyone,
We have a issue with ESS HomeAddress and Phone. when we edit and save data, its showing a message that data is saved. but the data is not getting updated in the backend and the view also is showing old data only. Pleas help us, if anyone came across this type of issue.
